Outlier Society and Amazon MGM Studios want to turn up the heat with Michael B. Jordan for a new Thomas Crown Affair movie. As part of a landmark deal, Jordan will direct and star in the project, which will debut exclusively in theaters. Jordan also produces through his Outlier Society studio alongside Elizabeth Raposo.
Previously, Pierce Brosnan played the lead character in 1999’s The Thomas Crown Affair, directed by John McTiernan. In the film, Brosnan plays Crown, a playboy with a knack for stealing art for kicks. However, when he meets Catherine Banning, an insurance investigator who inspires Thomas’ heart to go pitter-pat, Crown’s wicked ways take an exciting turn. Before Bronsnan’s turn as the Lothario thief, Norman Jewison directed the original 1968 movie, starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway as the complicated couple.
Often compared to James Bond, Thomas Crown squares off against fewer villains than the British superspy.

Denzel Washington is proud of his children. Why wouldn’t he be? His youngest son, Malcolm Washington, just premiered his directorial debut with an adaptation of August Wilson’s play, “The Piano Lesson,” which he co-wrote with Virgil Williams. In addition, the film stars his Denzel’s eldest son, John David Washington, with his sister Katia serving as executive producer and Malcolm’s twin sister Olivia, also having a role in the movie.
Washington has been designated the custodian of Wilson’s legacy by Constanza Romero, and with it, he has an overall deal with Netflix to produce all of Wilson’s 10-play Pittsburgh Cycle, also known as “The Century Cycle.” Set across several decades of the 20th century, it chronicles the experience and heritage of the African American community.

After Wesley Snipes’s controversial run as Blade, the mantle was handed over to Mahershala Ali. Marvel Studios announced a reboot of the franchise, with the actor taking over the character from the Og Blade. Unfortunately, the project has been stuck in development since time immemorial and Michael B. Jordan’s next project might just prove to be a generous sprinkle of salt on Mahershala Ali’s wounds.

Michael B. Jordan gears up to star in the film revolving around vampires that has reportedly gotten itself a release date already. On the other hand, the ultimate human-vampire hybrid is still lurking somewhere in the shadows over at Marvel Studios, “patiently” waiting for his turn.

We talk a lot about the top of the pile when discussing horror novels and novelists. Obviously, the top of that pile is a certain man by the name of Stephen King. However, if you were going to have a Mount Rushmore of authors with him, I’m throwing the great Michael Crichton up there with him in one of the other 3 spots. Yeah, I know he’s not known as a hardcore horror guy, or even really a horror guy at all, I know for a fact his most well-known work Jurassic Park scared the bejesus out of a whole generation of kids. For that matter, I showed that movie to my kids as their first entryway into horror. While I’ll probably tackle Jurassic Park at some point as it is vastly different from book to movie, let me know in the comments if you guys want that,...

[This story contains spoilers from season two, episode five of UnPrisoned.]
In season two of UnPrisoned, Paige (Kerry Washington) and Edwin (Delroy Lindo) mending the wounds of their still-shaky father-daughter relationship takes a backseat to their concerns about Finn (Faly Rakotohavana) and how being the son of a mother whose father was incarcerated for most of her life —and who has had no relationship with his own biological father — has affected him.
“I think that maybe the perception last year was that it was a show about a single woman whose father had spent the bulk of her life in prison, and a lot of the narrative did fuel that. But it is a show about a woman, her father and his grandson,” showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It is a multi-generational family, and we have a multi-generational story.”

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for Season 2 of “UnPrisoned,” now streaming on Hulu.
Kerry Washington refuses to rest on her laurels. In the six years since wrapping up her seven-season run as political fixer Olivia Pope on ABC’s “Scandal,” which made her the first Black woman in nearly 40 years to lead a primetime network drama, Washington has ventured further into producing and directing — all while keeping an eye out for new acting roles that would diversify her body of work, and get her out of comfort zone.
Her latest TV project “UnPrisoned” is a dramatic — or, shall we say, “dramedic” — departure from the more serious work that has largely defined her career, but continues her tradition of playing messy, complicated women who must reckon with the scars of their painful past. In Hulu and Onyx Collective’s “UnPrisoned,” which is inspired by creator Tracy McMillan’s personal experiences,...

Marvel Studios is just a few days away from releasing its first R-rated superhero movie within the MCU, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” but for even longer, we expected the first R-rated Marvel movie to hit theaters would be its reboot of “Blade” starring Mahershala Ali.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige first announced a “Blade” reboot back in 2019 with Ali attached to star, and the character was even teased in the post-credits of 2021’s “Eternals,” a would-be franchise that now seems forgotten.
“Blade” has been through many starts and stops, with several writers and directors filtering through and with delays because of the writers strike and more. Through it all, the franchise’s original stars Wesley Snipes and Stephen Dorff haven’t refrained from talking about it.
But Feige in an interview over the weekend ahead of “Deadpool & Wolverine” gave a short update about the status of “Blade.”

Rutger Hauer and Ridley Scott only made one film together, the 1982 classic Blade Runner – but Hauer went on to make two more movies that were scripted by Blade Runner screenwriter David Webb Peoples; the 1985 medieval fantasy film Ladyhawke (where Peoples went uncredited) and the apocalyptic 1989 film The Blood of Heroes, which Peoples also directed. Now War Is Hell: Making Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth and Soldier: From Script to Screen author Danny Stewart has dug into the making of The Blood of Heroes with his new book Saluting The Blood of Heroes: Behind the Apocalyptic Film, and copies are available for purchase on Amazon!
Also known as The Salute of the Jugger, The Blood of Heroes has the following synopsis: In a future where most of mankind and technology is wiped out, six people travel from place to place playing a brutal form of football with a dog skull.

The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Mashershala Ali in the title role, came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019… but now we’ve reached the five year anniversary of that announcement, and we still haven’t seen a new Blade movie. The closest we’ve gotten is Ali making a vocal cameo as the character at the end of Eternals back in 2021. Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige is currently doing the press rounds for the latest addition to the MCU, Deadpool & Wolverine, and while speaking with BlackTreeTV, Feige said they’re taking their time on this project to make sure they’re making the right Blade movie.

There's been very little in the way of good news, ever since Mahershala Ali walked on stage during Marvel Studios' 2019 San Diego Comic-Con panel to reveal to the world that he would be playing Blade in the MCU.
Since then, the project has undergone several script rewrites and seen several directors sign on and ultimately depart- along with a few of the film's cast.
However, in a new interview with BlackTreeTV, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige seemed confident that Blade would make its way to the big screen one day, confirming that like the Wesley Snipe films that preceded it, the McU's Blade will also be rated R.
Responding to a question about the film's rating, Feige stated, "For the last few years, we've been trying to crack that movie."

The second season of UnPrisoned finds Paige, Edwin, and Finn still navigating their family dynamics in the aftermath of Edwin’s time in prison. Creator Tracy McMillan draws from her own experiences in crafting this moving portrait of a family striving to reconnect despite past mistakes and traumas.
Paige is a therapist who helps others while struggling to manage her own anxieties. Viewers see her vulnerable side through Kerry Washington’s nuanced performance. Edwin, too, is coping with his return to the outside, played brilliantly by Delroy Lindo. Their young son Finn deals with his own pressures, as portrayed with insight by Faly Rakotohavana.
This season sees the family reconnect while seeking counseling from an eccentric new therapist, John Stamos. His unorthodox methods create humor but also drive home challenging truths. Through it all, the heart of the show remains Paige, Edwin, and Finn’s commitment to healing old wounds together.

For UnPrisoned creator Tracy McMillan, the goal of Season 2 of the Hulu and Onyx Collective series was to take the Alexander family from rupture to repair.

Paige had misgivings about letting her father around her teenage son Finneas (Faly Rakotohavana), but they ultimately decided to go for it so that her dad could have the best chance staying out of jail. When the Kerry Washington and Delroy Lindo dramedy UnPrisoned debuted as Onyx Collective’s most-watched Hulu premiere in March 2023 and became the most-watched original scripted series of the year, a second seasoned seemed like a sure bet. Yet renewal news for the Tracy McMillan-created show of which Yvette Lee Bowser is executive producer and showrunner, came later than fans, and perhaps even the cast, anticipated, with the writers and actors strikes delaying the green light until November of last year.

Paige’s inner child (Jordyn McIntosh) also helps her through tough spots in her present life.

Comedy isn’t the first genre most would assign a show about a man getting out of federal prison and reuniting with his family after serving decades behind bars. But humor is the instinctive approach UnPrisoned creator and writer Tracy McMillan took for the Hulu series, which draws from her lived experience growing up in the foster care system as her father, Harold, ultimately, spent a total of 37 years incarcerated.
“Every person who has ever been arrested or who is in prison is surrounded by people who love them — or not — but that impacts way more than just that one person,” McMillan tells The Hollywood Reporter. “The goal was to make it safe to talk about this in a way. Because if it’s happening this much but no one’s talking about it, then how can I reduce the shame around this thing by putting it out there?”

THR reports that Universal Pictures has snagged the rights to A Vicious Circle, a graphic novel series published by Boom! Studios created by Mattson Tomlin and Lee Bermejo. Ryan Coogler is on board to produce A Vicious Circle via his Proximity Media banner, with Tomlin set to write the screenplay.
A Vicious Circle is a “two-hander action thriller about assassins from the future hunting each other through time” which is being described as John Wick meets Looper. Sounds like fun to me.
If you’d like more detail, the graphic novel synopsis has you covered: “Shawn Thacker is a trained assassin from the future who seeks revenge on the only other man with his affliction—each life they take forces them both to involuntarily travel between vastly different past and future eras. While Marvel Studios' Blade reboot was first announced in 2019, it's since gotten caught up in both the pandemic and last year's Hollywood strikes.
Also not helping matters is the fact it's been through two directors and at least half a dozen writers, a sign Kevin Feige and company are struggling to figure out how to bring the Daywalker back to the big screen.
While Blade has lost actors Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods) and Aaron Pierre (Mufasa: The Lion King) due to the delays, Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali remains attached to the project. That's despite recent reports revealing he's growing "increasingly frustrated" with the situation.
MaXXXine star Mia Goth is also still signed up to star in Blade, with it being widely reported that she's going to play the villainous daughter of Dracula, Lilith.

Marvel’s 2019 San Diego Comic-Con panel in Hall H had a lot of exciting announcements for the time. But the most thrilling moment occurred at the end of the presentation when MCU boss Kevin Feige brought onto the stage Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali to announce a new Blade film. The audience erupted in cheers, excited by the idea of seeing the Daywalker onscreen again.
Twenty years earlier, about when the original Blade movie was released, such a response from even comic book fans would have been unthinkable. Not because superhero movies, especially those with Marvel heroes, were not popular. Rather it would have been unthinkable, because Blade was a character obscure even to most comic book readers. There were many who might’ve not even know the character existed until he showed up on Spider-Man: The Animated Series in 1995.
Yet, thanks to two great movies starring a never-cooler Wesley Snipes...

Marvel Studios' Blade recently lost a second director in Yann Demange, prompting a fresh round of speculation about why Kevin Feige and company simply can't get this long-awaited movie - first announced in 2019 - into theaters.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, both sides are to have grown frustrated with Blade's prolonged development process, with the Daywalker himself, Mahershala Ali, said to be "increasingly frustrated" with the situation.
The trade explains that he handpicked Demange after Bassam Tariq walked away from Blade in September 2022. At the time, the movie had been in pre-production and was gearing up to start shooting two months later.
Marvel Studios decided Tariq wasn't a good fit and, after presenting Ali with a list of possible directors, executives were surprised when the Oscar-winner "conducted his own search after having concerns that the list largely featured filmmakers who were untested at the big studio level."

It’s been five years since it was first announced that Mahershala Ali would star in Blade, but with a revolving door of writers and directors, it seems that the project can’t catch a break. To quote the man himself, “Some motherf***ers are always trying to ice skate uphill.“
A new report from THR mentions that Blade star Mahershala Ali is growing “increasingly frustrated” with the lengthy development process, which is entirely understandable. Nearly every single project that was announced alongside Blade at Comic-Con 2019, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder, has already come and gone.

Marvel Studios keeps trying to unsheathe Blade, but the vampire thriller is stuck in its scabbard. The latest setback occurred in recent weeks when the feature lost director Yann Demange, the second helmer to exit the project. Some sources say both sides grew frustrated by Blade’s prolonged development process.
Star Mahershala Ali is also said to be increasingly frustrated. The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019 – but all these years later, we’re still waiting on the film to make its way into production. In fact, with Bob Iger recently announcing that the studio was cutting back (even more) on Marvel stuff, Blade’s future seems in limbo. So, here’s Everything We Know About Blade.

Before “Iron Man” and “Thor,” before “Spider-Man” and “X-Men,” there was “Blade.” Starring Wesley Snipes as the titular daywalking half-vampire vampire slayer, the movie debuted in 1998 at a time when Marvel comics had yet to enjoy a successful feature film adaptation. The New Line Cinema production was enough of a hit — grossing $131.2 million worldwide — that Snipes returned for two sequels, establishing the company’s first ever bona fide movie franchise. Had “Blade” bombed, the Marvel Cinematic Universe may never have happened.
So when Marvel Studios announced in 2019 that two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali was going to bring the character to the MCU, it seemed like a total no brainer.
Five years later, however, “Blade” has weathered the Covid-19 pandemic and two major guild strikes, faced three release date changes, lost two directors, and hired at least a half dozen screenwriters in what could be the most protracted development process...

Another day, another setback for Marvel's long-awaited "Blade" reboot. The project was first announced a handful of years ago during the studio's big Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 when Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali came out on stage, revealing he would be playing the character in a new film. Here we are, five years later and nothing has materialized. Now, the project has suffered another major setback as director Yann Demange has departed the film, per The Wrap.
Demange's departure is being framed as an amicable parting of ways. The filmmaker behind films like "White Boy Rick" and "'71" was first announced as the director of "Blade" in 2022, taking over for Bassam Tariq ("Mogul Mowgli"). All eyes now turn to who will be chosen to fill the empty director's chair. If Marvel Studios and Disney intend to keep the film's current November 2025 release date, they will likely need to hire someone in a hurry.

Despite a muted reception back in May 1994 — certainly compared to Spike Lee’s previous film “Malcolm X” — “Crooklyn” has endured for three decades as one of the director’s most treasured films.
At the time, Spike Lee was still in the first decade of his career as a director, and “Crookyln” marked his seventh film in nine years with his “brand” in the popular consciousness as a polemical artist at the vanguard of the ’90s Black New Wave that also featured filmmakers such as John Singleton, Mario Van Peebles, and the Hughes Brothers.

Majors plays David, the loyal and compassionate son of former Vietnam soldier Paul (Delroy Lindo), in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods and a bitter, wronged son in The Harder They Fall. Yet Majors follows him there, trying to reason with...
