Jeopardy! fans were left swooning over TV’s newest “hot priest” during the September 19th game as Father Steve Jakubowski joined the panel of competitors that also included returning champ Chris Lindsay and fellow newbie Jen Feldman. Originally from Grand, Rapids, Michigan, Father Steve is a Catholic Priest who held his own up until the Final Jeopardy round where he closed out the game with a mere $99. But his loss wasn’t so much of the focus as viewers at home couldn’t help but take note of the priest, an unusual sight on the game show. While there have been others featured in previous matches, viewers began drawing comparisons to Fleabag, dubbing him under the aforementioned nickname of “Hot Priest,” which Andrew Scott was famously known for after his performance in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Emmy-winning comedy. As one fan put it on X (formerly known as Twitter), “hot priest...

In 2022, then-Vox writer Emily St. James coined a catchy phrase to describe an emerging cinematic trend: the “millennial parental apology fantasy.” Daniels’s Everything Everywhere All at Once and Domee Shi’s Turning Red represented the tip of the spear for a cohort of films, usually with explicitly or understood queer themes, that sought to reverse the tide of intergenerational trauma by demanding expiation from its source. Just a year later, however, All of Us Strangers proves that St. James’s term has already outlived its usefulness, what with 1970s-born writer-director Andrew Haigh and star Andrew Scott demonstrating that the dream isn’t exclusively the provenance of a single generation.
Haigh transposes and queers Yamada Taichi’s 1987 novel Strangers to contemporary London, where Scott’s reserved screenwriter, Adam, dwells in a new and largely unoccupied tower block. From outside the building one evening, he peers curiously into the only other tenanted unit.

Cast and executive producers of ‘Shogun’ on stage at the 2024 Emmys (Disney/Frank Micelotta)
Father and son Eugene and Dan Levy did a respectable job of hosting the 2024 Primetime Emmys, popping in just enough throughout the two-hour running time to guide the show without overstaying their welcome. Their opening bit avoided any controversial topics, and Dan Levy got a big laugh when he described the Emmys as broadcast TV’s biggest night for honoring movie stars on streaming services. Eugene also earned solid applause when he joked, “In the true spirit of The Bear, we will not be making any jokes,” while addressing the show’s controversial classification as a comedy.
Speaking of The Bear, the series was awarded four Emmys during the broadcast in the Actor (Jeremy Allen White), Supporting Actor (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Supporting Actress (Liza Colón-Zayas), and Outstanding Directing categories. But Hacks pulled off a surprise win, snagging the Comedy Series Emmy.

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards just aired on ABC, and things went about as expected. In other words, the excellent historical drama Shōgun won Best Drama Series; the caustic slice-of-life series The Bear won Best Comedy Series, since I guess it's a little more like a comedy than Shōgun; and the autobiographical stalker drama Baby Reindeer won Best Limited or Anthology Series.
Those three were the big winners of the night, with them each taking home four awards. Jeremy Allen White won Best Actor In A Comedy Series as expected, and his costar Ebon Moss-Bachrach won Best Supporting Actor. On the drama side, Hiroyuki Sanada won Best Actor and Anna Sawai won Best Actress; she was the one I was really invested in. She was magnificent as Mariko and if she hadn't won I would have been forced to write a strongly worded letter to whoever votes in these things.

Shogun was named best dramatic series and took home both lead acting wins for Hiroyuku Sanada and Anna Sawai, who became the first actress of Asian descent to win the category. The show itself became the first mostly not in the English language to win the series award.

Style at the 2024 Emmys ran the gamut this year, from vivid hues to the deepest jewel tones and a substantial commitment to classic black and shimmering metallics. The sheer variety of looks made the task of narrowing the list of best-dressed stars among this year’s winners and nominees all the more daunting.
In the end, selecting the most outstanding looks from Sunday ceremony at the Peacock Theater boiled down to a mix of factors: a silhouette and design that felt both current and beyond basic, an attention to beautiful fit, thoughtful accessorizing and the poise to pull off all of the above.
Here’s a look at a dozen stars who simply dazzled at the 2024 Emmys.

Only eight months after the last Emmy ceremony (which was delayed due to the strikes), the Primetime Emmy Awards are back, although there were some big surprises in store. As Dan Levy said, the 76th Annual Emmy Awards were “Broadcast TV’s biggest night for honoring movie stars on streaming services.”

FX’s historical epic, “Shōgun,” can’t stop making history all its own. Following its record-breaking performance at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards — where the drama series became the most awarded single season in Emmy history — Anna Sawai has become the first actor of Asian descent to win the Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series. It was the “Pachinko” star’s first nomination.
Sawai was only the second actress of Asian descent to ever be nominated in the category. Her predecessor, Sandra Oh, was nominated four times between 2018-2022 for “Killing Eve.”
Although “Shogun” has been considered a frontrunner anywhere and everywhere it’s been nominated, the race for Best Drama Actress was seen as one of the more competitive categories. Each previous actor to play Queen Elizabeth II in “The Crown” won an Emmy, which made Imelda Staunton’s royal portrayal a popular choice in the series’ final season.

Richard Gadd, creator and star of Netflix’s breakout hit Baby Reindeer, has won an Emmy for his starring turn in the stalker drama, based on his personal experiences.
Gadd’s win for Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie was his second of three tonight, as he earlier won Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. In his second speech — watch it above — he acknowledged “a glaring omission” from his first of the night, taking time to pay tribute to his parents.

Richard Gadd took home the award for best actor in a limited series for his role in Baby Reindeer at the 2024 Emmys.
Gadd kicked off his acceptance speech by saying he didn’t prepare any remarks because he didn’t think he’d win in a category against Fellow Travelers’ Matt Bomer, Fargo‘s Jon Hamm, Feud: Capote vs. the Swans‘ Tom Hollander and Ripley‘s Andrew Scott.
“Jon Hamm, I’m your biggest fan, as I told you for ages last night, over and over again, but like, this is not the world,” he said, before thanking the people he forgot to thank when he accepted for best writing for a comedy series earlier in the night, including his parents.
“I’d like to thank my mom and dad — a glaring omission from the previous one as well,” he noted. “They’ve been there for me, a constant source of love and support.

I didn’t need anything after that,” the director said. “The work is its own reward and I still really appreciate this honor though, and I share it with literally hundreds of people who worked on Ripley, the actors, Andrew [Scott], Dakota [Fanning], Elliot [Sumner], Johnny [Flynn], Maurizio [Lombardi], and all the other wonderful Italian actors, the producers, the incredible department heads and crew—all of ’em artists in their own right. I thank them. The Academy, Netflix and my family.”

For the second time this year, Hollywood gathered to honor TV’s biggest stars.
After the 2023 ceremony was delayed to January 2024 by last year’s Hollywood strikes, it’s only been eight months since TV’s biggest stars gathered at Los Angeles’ LA Live Peacock Theatre to announce the Emmy winners. Like months ago, “The Bear” stars Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach once again won lead actor and supporting actor in a comedy, and co-star Colón-Zayas also won her first Emmy in the supporting actress race. “Hacks” star Jean Smart won lead actress in a comedy, and in the biggest surprise of the night, HBO’s “Hacks” won outstanding comedy over “The Bear,” which many believed to be the frontrunner.
“The Bear” broke its own record of 10 comedy wins for a single season, which it achieved last year, with its 11 trophies on Sunday, including directing for Christopher Storer. FX...

It’s television’s biggest night, and it’s posed to be a record-breaking one if contenders like “Shōgun” and “The Bear” continue expected sweeps.
The way of things was signaled at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys September 7 and 8 when “Shōgun” broke records grabbing 14 trophies, sweeping every category except the main title theme and original score. “Shōgun” took casting, cinematography, period costumes, editing, period/fantasy production design, period/fantasy hairstyling, main title design, non-prosthetic period/fantasy/sci-fi makeup, prosthetic makeup, sound editing, sound mixing, special visual effects, and stunt performance, and broke a record previously held by “Game of Thrones.”
Tonight, the FX drama is nominated for Best Drama series, among a slew of acting nominations where it looks to continue its stunning run.
On the comedy side, defending champ “The Bear,” also FX, will take on the third season of Max’s “Hacks,” among other contenders like “Abbott Elementary,” and...

The 76th Emmys are officially underway, with stars arriving on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony.
Didn’t the Emmys already happen this year? Technically yes, but that was the telecast for the 75th awards show; it occurred in January due to 2023’s Hollywood strikes, which forced the Television Academy to delay the ceremony.
Leading the nominations this year is FX’s “Shogun,” which scored a stunning 25 nominations (including limited series) and scored first-time acting nominations for stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai. FX landed 93 noms all together — helped also by the record-breaking 23 nominations (the most in Emmy history) for its comedy series “The Bear.”
The star-studded list of attendees includes Andrew Scott, Jane Lynch, Emily Hampshire, Walter Goggins, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and many more.

If Sunday night feels like “Emmys, the Sequel,” that’s understandable: In January, several months later than usual, the television industry met to present the 2023 awards, a delay necessitated by last year’s dual Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA strikes. But what a difference eight months might make for the 2024 Emmys.
While longtime favorites and past winners like The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White, Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson and The Crown‘s Elizabeth Debicki are once again up for trophies, first-time nominees also expected to attend the ceremony at Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles include Ryan Gosling, nominated for his guest-hosting duties on Saturday Night Live, and Naomi Watts, earning her first Emmy nom for her role as Babe Paley in FX’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.

On Sunday we are celebrating the winners of the 76th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, the second time this year after January’s strike-delayed 75th Emmys, but we know the results will be, at least in part, quite different (well maybe not for The Bear). So here is my stab at predicting just who those winners will be.
Outstanding Drama Series
With only The Crown returning from the lineup here just eight months ago, what might have been a fresh, wide open race now seems utterly predictable in terms of a runaway winner. After already setting a record for a single season series with 14 wins at last weekend’s Creative Arts ceremonies, FX’s Shōgun with 25 nominations overall to lead this year’s list of nominees will certainly prevail here, proof that FX’s last minute move from Limited Series to Drama Series will pay off big time.

TV’s biggest night is back for a second time this year, with the 76th Annual Emmy Awards back to their regularly-scheduled September ceremony. The impact of 2023’s Hollywood strikes is still rippling through the industry — including through the 75th Emmys, which took place earlier this year, in January — but the 2023-2024 Emmy nominees delivered another excellent year of television.
Despite the back-to-back ceremonies, the Emmys eligibility period holds strong; this ceremony will honor TV shows that premiered between June 2023 and May 2024. That includes pre-strike premieres like “The Bear” Season 2 and spring 2024 hits like “Hacks” Season 3. This was the first year without a lot of usual suspects in the Emmy race, such as “Succession,” “Ted Lasso,” “Barry,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” other favorites like “The Gilded Age,” “The Bear,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and “The Crown” are still in the running.

“Baby Reindeer” has been on an upward trajectory since its quiet premiere in April, and that is reflected in this 2024 Emmy lineup for Best Limited/Movie Writing. Not only is Richard Gadd expected to win here, but he’s also nominated for producing and starring in the Netflix limited series. It’s one of two full showings nominated in this category and is the only autobiographical series represented. The other nominees stem from “Ripley,” “Black Mirror,” “Fargo,” “Fellow Travelers” and “True Detective: Night Country.” With Gadd’s odds looking steady for both Best Limited Series and Best Limited/Movie Actor, will he also pull off a victory in the writing category?
Here are Gold Derby’s current Best Limited/Movie Writing Emmy 2024 racetrack odds:
1. “Baby Reindeer” (Richard Gadd) — 10/3 odds
2. “Ripley” (Steven Zaillian) — 9/2 odds

Seven years after coming up short on their respective first and second Best TV Movie/Limited Series Directing Emmy bids against Jean-Marc Vallée (“Big Little Lies”), Steven Zaillian and Noah Hawley are involved in a rematch as helmers of the non-continuing programs “Ripley” and “Fargo.” Despite the quality of their new work and their strong Emmys resumes, they are widely expected to once again be bested by a complete first-timer: Weronika Tofilska (“Baby Reindeer”).
Tofilska is joined in this directing lineup’s category newcomer majority by Issa López (“True Detective”), Millicent Shelton (“Lessons in Chemistry”), and Gus Van Sant (“Feud”). Counting Zaillian and Hawley, Shelton is the only one in the bunch who has ever earned TV academy recognition for directing a non-limited series, as her very first bid came for “30 Rock” in 2009.

When it comes to Hollywood’s top names, Matt Damon definitely fits the bill. He’s been in the game for a long time, having kicked off his career at a young age. By the 1990s, he was already considered one of the rising stars, right up there with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Leonardo DiCaprio. As the years went by, he gained even more recognition, starring in films that are still iconic today.
Matt Damon in Jason Bourne (Credits: Universal Pictures)
Damon dives into a range of genres, though he’s best known for his action films. Over his career, he’s been nominated for numerous awards and even won an Oscar and a Golden Globe. Despite this, there are still a few of his films that haven’t gotten the attention they deserve and could definitely use more spotlight and reviews.

No expense is being spared it seems, as Rian Johnson wraps production on his third murder mystery film, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
This isn’t the first time that a Knives Out story has circulated alongside a very big number, so we’ve definitely been here before. However, just because writer/director Rian Johnson’s popular murder mystery series has managed to deal in pretty eye-watering numbers before, it doesn’t make this latest story and less eyebrow-raising.
According to The InSneider, the budget for Netflix’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery – the third film in Rian Johnson’s murder mystery series – has reached a whopping $210m. Whilst films reaching that level of production budget isn’t uncommon these days, they usually tend to be blockbusters filled with expensive CGI sequences, pricey practical set pieces or both.

Lili Horvát’s English-language debut My Notes On Mars will star Greta Lee and Andrew Scott, we’ve learned. More on the sci-fi romance below.
Andrew Scott and Greta Lee starred in two of the most emotionally devastating films of the last few years. Scott’s turn in Andrew Haigh’s All Of Us Strangers left us weeping in our cinema seats, while Celine Song’s Past Lives had us longing for all those who got away.
The pair will now maximise their control over our emotions as they team up for Lili Horvát’s My Notes On Mars. Described as a sci-fi romance, Deadline reports that the film will follow “Margot (Lee), a brilliant young scientist with a troubled marriage, who disappears inexplicably while hiking with her husband Sam (Scott) and a group of friends. A few weeks later, she miraculously reappears the day of her own memorial service.
