Before Bruce Willis became a global star with the action franchise Die Hard and the horror film The Sixth Sense, he was a TV star. He rose to fame as the private detective David Addison in Moonlighting, which also featured Cybill Shepherd. The role even earned him a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe.
While the actor then moved on to films after making the action blockbuster Die Hard, he returned as a guest star on Friends. Willis won his second Emmy for the role of Paul Stevens and the guest role was reportedly a result of a bet between him and his The Whole Nine Yards co-star Matthew Perry.

Disney doing catalogue physical media releases? Crikey. The Sixth Sense and Signs are both coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK.
First announced in the US a week or two back, we’ve now got confirmation that two of writer/director M Night Shyamalan’s early hits – the juggernaut that became The Sixth Sense and crop circle tale Signs – are coming to the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format for the first time.
The films are earmarked for a 16th December 2024 release, and have gone up for preorder.
You can find the listing for The Sixth Sense here.
You can find the listing for Signs here.
What’s interesting here isn’t just that the films have been remastered for a fresh physical media release, and their first in 4K, it’s also that it might just be Disney loosening its grip a little more on its catalogue.

Once upon a time, there was a filmmaker named Alexandre Aja. His career was fascinating in the way it wasn't strictly auteurist, for while every director has their unique stylistic tics and proclivities, not everyone has a distinctive, strong signature. Aja has certainly always been a genre filmmaker, one who's interested in subversion and twists, in playing around with the conventions of genre, and in being unafraid to use audience's sympathies against them. Whether it's been in the brutal, New French Extremity slashers of "High Tension" and "The Hills Have Eyes," the gleefully exploitative "Piranha 3D," the literary roots of "Horns" and "The 9th Life of Louis Drax," or the suspense exercises of "Crawl" and "Oxygen," Aja has always found ways to surprise and upset (in every sense of the word) with his films.
All this is to say that, in the case of Aja's latest film, "Never Let Go,...

Back in early 2023, filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan told Collider, “I have three movie ideas. I even have the structure of all three to some extent. And so it’s a very weird and interesting situation I’m feeling. I wish I could tell them faster. I wish I could get there faster, but there is no shortcut. I have to spend the six to nine months to write it. I have to storyboard for three months, and then we have pre-production, and then shooting it, and edit for as long as I can get every single second.“ Soon after, it was announced that he had secured a multi-year deal with Warner Bros. – and he immediately went to work on his recent thriller Trap. Now that Trap has made its way out into the world, it’s time for Shyamalan to start putting the second of those three movie ideas he said he had,...

James McAvoy has certainly had quite an impressive career. From starring in the X-Men films to being in Joe Wright’s Atonement, and even M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. Having explored all corners of the film industry, he has certainly become one of the best people to hire for a guaranteed excellent performance.

One would assume that after so much exposure and acclaim for years, McAvoy would be quite an expensive actor to hire for a job. However, recent evidence seems to suggest otherwise. While many would think the reasoning behind this to be something as simple as circumstances, being paid less is actually something the actor takes part in actively.

Last month, actor Joaquin Phoenix made waves after he dropped out of a new film from Carol director Todd Haynes mere days before the film was supposed to start. The movie is reportedly a gay romance, and there was speculation that Phoenix may have gotten cold feet about the subject matter. But it's starting to sound like he just has an issue with dropping out of movies at the last minute in general.
This comes from Phoenix's fellow actor James McAvoy, who's currently out there promoting his new movie Speak No Evil. During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, McAvoy said that Phoenix also dropped out of M. Night Shyamalan's 2016 horror movie Split right before shooting was set to begin: “I think he ditched it like two weeks before they started shooting. It was really last minute.”

Fresh off the release of his new thriller Trap, which just passed $80 million at the worldwide box office, M. Night Shyamalan has announced that work has begun on his next movie.
“As a ritual for each film, I pick a notebook that speaks to me and I write notes, ideas for the new film in that,” Shyamalan explained in an Instagram post over the weekend. “When it’s overflowing with ideas, I go to outline then script. This is the notebook for movie 17!”
Shyamalan’s post continues, “As #TrapMovie passes 80 million in theaters, I am so grateful and begin the new one inspired by all the support you have given me over the years.”

James McAvoy claims that his pivotal role in M Night Shyamalan’s Split was originally to be played by Joaquin Phoenix, but he allegedly quit two weeks before filming began.
In what’s beginning to look like a pattern, it’s been alleged that Joaquin Phoenix departed the production of M Night Shyamalan’s 2016 thriller Split – just two weeks before filming began. The story comes straight from James McAvoy, who ultimately played Kevin, the kidnapper with multiple personalities, in the finished film – and later reprised the role in 2019’s Glass.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Deadline), McAvoy said, “I think he [Phoenix] ditched it two weeks before they started shooting.”
The actor added that the short window between him replacing Phoenix and the start of the shoot left him with little time to perfect a complex character that essentially required 15 different performances in one movie.

Joaquin Phoenix has become one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actors, and he is known for his intense dedication and unique approach to his craft. This level of commitment has helped him land numerous acclaimed roles, including his Oscar-winning performance in Joker. However, as much as his creative methods have brought him success, they’ve also caused him to walk away from significant opportunities.

Almost 10 years before Joaquin Phoenix abruptly exited Todd Haynes’ queer detective film, it turns out that Phoenix also walked away from a different production: M. Night Shyamalan’s 2016 film “Split.”
“Split” lead star James McAvoy addressed the rumors that Phoenix left the project mere weeks before filming was to begin, prompting McAvoy to step into the role that was originally meant for the “Joker” star. Joaquin Phoenix has a reputation in Hollywood for unexpectedly dropping out of movies close to their start dates. His most recent exit was from an untitled gay romance film directed by Todd Haynes just days before shooting was scheduled to begin. This last-minute departure caused the production to fall apart since it had been largely financed based on Phoenix’s involvement.
Phoenix’s unexpected withdrawal from M. Night Shyamalan’s 2016 psychological thriller “Split” also came very late in the process. In a recent interview, actor James McAvoy revealed that with just two weeks to go before filming, he received a call asking him to replace Phoenix.
McAvoy said taking over the leading role on such short notice was challenging since it required portraying 23 distinct personalities. However, he felt the well-written script made the difficult role understandable. Despite the time crunch, McAvoy said he threw himself into the part.

His free-spirited family meets Ben (Scoot McNairy), Louise (Mackenzie Davis) and Agnes Dalton (Alix West Lefler) during an Italian vacation, prompting Paddy and his partner Ciara (Aisling Franciosi) to later invite the Daltons to their farmhouse for some R&r that quickly goes wrong.
McAvoy’s previous collaborations with Blumhouse on M. Night Shyamalan’s Split (2016) and Glass (2019) led to significant commercial success, dollar for dollar, and the Scottish actor’s performance as the Did-suffering Kevin Wendell Crumb has since put him in the ongoing conversation regarding overlooked genre-based performances that deserved genuine awards consideration. Joaquin Phoenix's loss was James McAvoy's gain. The latter is now starring in Blumhouse's retelling of the 2022 Danish horror film "Speak No Evil", adding yet another terrifying and brilliant performance under McAvoy's belt as the antagonist of the story. Not surprisingly, the trailers for the movie almost seemed to be going out of their way to evoke the actor's vaguely similar turn in M. Night Shyamalan's "Split," where he stole every one of his scenes as the mentally unstable villain -- one whose entire mood and personality shifted at a moment's notice, not unlike his character in "Speak No Evil." Well, those comparisons might never have happened in the first place if Phoenix hadn't dropped out of yet another high-profile gig at the very last moment.

Dave Bautista is addressing concerns regarding his health as fans have noted his sudden weight loss, but the Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune actor is aiming to put their minds at ease. In an interview with Chris Van Vliet posted to TikTok, Bautista was asked about his recent slimdown and he noted that it had to do with his initial weight gain surrounding his role in M. Night Shyamalan‘s Knock at the Cabin. The former WWE wrestler told Van Vliet, “I started trimming down for a particular reason. One, I started trimming down because I just got fat… I got really big for a role and it was uncomfortably big… Knock at the Cabin… I got really big. I was like around 315 pounds and I put the weight on really fast.” @chris.vanvliet He says he hasn’t been this light since he was 19 #wwe #davebautista #wrestling ♬ original...

Dave Bautista is addressing his weight loss amid health concerns raised by fans.
The Knock at the Cabin actor said in a recent interview that his initial weight gain was initially for the M. Night Shyamalan psychological horror film.

Dave Bautista recently told content creator Chris Van Vliet that his recent weight loss can be attributed to his acting career, mainly because he doesn’t want to appear too “distracting” on camera opposite his more normal-sized co-stars. The “Guardians of the Galaxy” favorite said he’s “absolutely” been trimming down to play a more diverse range of acting roles.
“I started trimming down because I got really big for a role. Uncomfortably big,” Bautista said. “For ‘Knock at the Cabin’ I got really big. I was around 315 pounds…I put the weight on really fast and I put on an uncomfortable amount of weight and it took forever to shed it out.”
Bautista decided it was time to lose some weight, and as the pounds came off he realized that not only was he feeling better emotionally but he was also becoming more natural on screen.

Back in October of 2021, we heard that M. Night Shyamalan was producing the thriller The Vanishings at Caddo Lake, which was being directed by the duo of Celine Held and Logan George – who made their feature directorial debut with the 2020 drama Topside and went on to direct episodes of Shyamalan’s Apple TV+ series Servant. That movie, which now has the shorter title Caddo Lake, will be making its way out into the world next month, as it’s set to be released through the Max streaming service on October 10th… and with that date right around the corner, a teaser trailer for Caddo Lake has been unveiled. You can watch it in the embed above.
Held and George wrote the screenplay for the film, crafting the following story: When an 8-year-old girl mysteriously vanishes on Caddo Lake, a series of past deaths and disappearances begin to link together, forever...

Box office preview: Will ‘Speak No Evil’ keep ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ from its first place repeat?
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” may have given the fall movie season a serious jumpstart, but it’s not the only September release, as we are about to go into yet another busy weekend. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Scott McNairy, and Aisling Franciosi (“The Last Voyage of the Demeter”) star in Universal Pictures and Blumhouse’s remake of the Danish horror film “Speak No Evil,” which received rave reviews when it premiered at Sundance and ended up streaming on Shudder. Directed by British filmmaker James Watkins (“The Woman in Black”), this remake looks pretty straight-forward with the same premise of a couple traveling to visit another couple they met on holiday, with the biggest difference being that the respective families are now American and British.

Early in his acting career, Aaron Pierre heard he was too tall to ever convincingly convey emotion onscreen. The passing remark stayed with Pierre, who, standing at 6 foot, 3 inches, has spent much of his career disproving that notion with memorable characters on stage and screen.
After starting out in London theater, Pierre broke out as an enslaved man fighting for freedom in Barry Jenkins’ historical limited series “The Underground Railroad” and as a rapper cheekily named “Mid-Sized Sedan” in M. Night Shyamalan’s existential horror film “Old.” But this year marks a new career-high for the 30-year-old English performer, who became the latest actor to reexamine the legacy of Malcolm X in the fourth season of National Geographic’s anthology series “Genius” and will debut as the rich baritone voice of Mufasa in Jenkins’ new “Lion King” prequel this December.

Dave Bautista, whose latest action comedy The Killer’s Game comes to theaters this Friday, is ready to make hearts go pitter-pat by starring in a romantic comedy. In the past, Bautista questioned if he was “too unattractive” to become a silver-screen Lothario, asking Page Six in a 2023 interview, “Is there something that unappealing about me that excludes me from these parts?” Aww, Dave! Don’t listen to your Emo Teen Life Coach. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about! I know plenty of people who find your rugged good looks alluring, and then some.
Fast-forward to the Los Angeles premiere of The Killer’s Game, where Bautista told The Hollywood Reporter that his Page Six comments “sparked quite a conversation, but I started getting a lot of phone calls after that.”

It snuck up on us, but the American remake of a foreign film hardly seems like the totem to failed imagination that it once did. Being generous, it’s practically becoming a lost art in the age of franchise maintenance. How can an overseas breakthrough be rejiggered into a one-off multiplex programmer? Blumhouse’s latest genre play “Speak No Evil” — which rips its title, premise and even entire gags from Christian Taldrip’s totally-f’ed-up festival standout from two years ago — is a reminder that the answer is usually pretty easy: End it as a crowd-pleaser, in this case with James McAvoy hulking out after he’s gleefully played with his food for 80 minutes.
As with the original film, writer-director James Watkins’ remake studies a couple that stretches their belief in the kindness of strangers to absurd proportions. Americans Ben and Louise are first seen listlessly vacationing in Italy with...

Maybe there’s hope for quality Netflix originals apart from its awards contenders. “Rebel Ridge,” a topical thriller about an ex-Marine confronting a corrupt small-town sheriff, is #1 at Netflix. It stars Aaron Pierre — who stepped into the role after John Boyega walked off the production in June 2021. A respected actor and ascendant star, Pierre is not a household name like Mark Wahlberg or Adam Sandler or Eddie Murphy, all of whom recently took Netflix originals to #1.
Nor is it a flashy drama, or a big-budget production. Its director, Jeremy Saulnier, most recently directed “Hold the Dark” for Netflix in 2018 (along with a couple of episodes of “True Detective”). IndieWire has watched his career for years, but directors like these also have wound up at Netflix making films that lack edginess or creativity. This seems like a happy exception. Its success suggests that well-crafted stories driven by substantial characters can be popular,...

There's a corner of the multiverse where Neon beat out Netflix to acquire "Hit Man" and turned the Glen Powell-Adria Arjona two-hander into the word-of-mouth theatrical hit it deserved to be. It's possible that same, better timeline is also where one of the streamer's rivals released "Rebel Ridge" in theaters instead of directly onto streaming, ensuring we would all be heralding Aaron Pierre as our next major movie star right about now.
Fortunately, Jeremy Saulnier's tension-ratcheting action-drama has managed to avoid being swallowed into the streaming void and is currently topping the Netflix charts in the U.S., which means the internet is actively in the process of fan-casting Pierre's next big project. With naught but a voice role as a young Mufasa in his "Underground Railroad" director Barry Jenkins' upcoming "Lion King" prequel on his docket, what do people have in mind for Pierre? Playing a superhero, of course!

The term body horror evokes certain types of visuals and visceral responses. Famously associated with directors like David Cronenberg, body horror is used to generate gross-out visuals as easily as it advances the narrative.
Writer/director Thibault Emin uses body horror in a completely different way in Else, a French body horror that concerns a pandemic virus that causes humans to “merge” to their surroundings. The body horror is often horrifying, but when filtered through the romanticism of Else‘s central love story, the visuals lend the film a grandeur that is intimate, poetic, and tragic.
The film opens with an unsatisfying hook-up: it’s the first time Anx (Matthieu Sampeur) and Cass (Edith Proust) have sex and he has performance issues. Anx is introverted and anxious, living in a Paris apartment that’s decorated by production designer Gabrielle Desjean like a shrine to his childhood. The space is filled...

M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap will be available on digital from 16th September with a DVD and Blu-ray to follow. More details below.
M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap was like a breath of fresh air in a summer blockbuster season full of large scale comic-book films and very serious epics. Starring Josh Hartnett as a dad moonlighting as a serial killer, Trap was “deliciously goofy” and all the better for it.
Hartnett plays Cooper, who takes her daughter Riley (Ariel Donoghue) to see Lady Raven (Saleka) in concert. We quickly find out, however, that Cooper is also Butcher, a notorious serial killer who has his latest victim locked up, waiting to be, well, butchered. As it turns out, the entire concert is an elaborate operation designed to catch Cooper, leaving him desperately looking for an escape route.
If you missed the film in cinemas, worry not. Trap will be available...

M. Night Shyamalan is known best for leaving his audiences in disbelief with his shocking and thrilling movies. His latest, Trap, starring former Hollywood heartthrob Josh Hartnett as a serial killer is just as diabolical. But it is also complex, leaving us terrified as well as empathizing with the killer.

Struggles with addiction and depression have come into the limelight since the Covid Pandemic. As they have, so too have the stories that often accompany these events. Director Nadine Crocker took her own struggles as inspiration for her film Continue. When shooting Continue, it was her debut feature. It now releases after her follow-up gig – Desperation Road – a Mel Gibson-starring action flick. Even with the long production schedule, she remains as committed as ever to her story.
When formulating Continue, Crocker wore a lot of hats. She served as the director, lead actress, producer, and writer for the film. She jokes “Sleep? What’s that?” when asked how she finds time for it all. “I think every person in the entertainment business knows – during production – you’re like a zombie person. You can’t wait to sleep and rest, but on the last day, you’re wondering how do I get that back?...

The name Blumhouse has become almost synonymous with horror in the modern era, thanks to the success of franchises such as "The Purge," "Paranormal Activity," and the recent "Halloween" reboot trilogy. That sort of brand recognition is tough to acquire in Hollywood. That said, the studio has had something of an off year, and could use an unqualified hit to get things back on track. It looks like the upcoming "Speak No Evil" remake could be that much-needed hit when it opens next weekend.
Director James Watkins' take on "Speak No Evil" is currently eyeing a debut in the $15 to $20 million range, per Box Office Theory. While the budget has yet to be revealed, Blumhouse rarely goes over $20 million since its business model has always been predicated on spending low to potentially hit it big. Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service Max has revealed a first look at its original film Caddo Lake, which will debut on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The movie comes from producer M. Night Shyamalan and writer-directors Celine Held and Logan George.
When an eight-year-old girl mysteriously vanishes, a series of past deaths and disappearances start to link together, forever altering a broken family’s history.
The cast includes Dylan O’Brien, Eliza Scanlen, Diana Hopper, Caroline Falk, and Sam Hennings, with Eric Lange and Lauren Ambrose.
The inspiration for Caddo Lake was sparked after filmmakers Celine Held and Logan George came across a photograph of the real Caddo Lake online, leading to many visits to the cypress forest that rests on the border of Texas and Louisiana. The film was shot in late 2021 and 2022 in and around Karnak, Texas.
The movie was produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan, Kara Durrett and Josh Godfrey.

The film was inspired by writers/directors Celine Held and Logan George coming across a photo of the real Caddo Lake, which led to many visits to the cypress forest on the border of Texas and Louisiana.
Caddo Lake, which was filmed in late 2021 and 2022 in and around Karnak, Texas, will debut on Thursday, October 10th on Max.
In case you missed it, Dylan will be playing Dan Aykroyd in the upcoming movie Saturday Night.
