7. Deus Ex (2000 Video Game)
M | Action, Mystery, Sci-Fi
In a dark cyberpunk future where poverty, disease, oppression and terrorism are widespread, J.C. Denton, a new cybernetically-enhanced special agent, finds evidence of a massive conspiracy when his brother, also an agent, goes rogue.
This stands apart from most first person shooters in having a relatively complex storyline, and non-linear gameplay which requires as much puzzle-solving as enemy blasting.
8. Super Metroid (1994 Video Game)
K-A | Action, Adventure, Family
Samus Aran returns to the brooding planet Zebes to recover the last metroid from the Space Pirates.
Quite short, but you can always try to beat your fastest time. Contains some brilliant ideas that obviously inspired Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The freeware game Cave Story is an extremely good homage to these classics.
9. James Pond 3: Operation Starfish (1993 Video Game)
Lunar-based platforming action with James Pond once again facing-off against the evil Dr. Maybe.
Hugely complex for its time, and far superior to the previous James Ponds. Takes a lot of inspiration from Mario, and builds on it to create something truly unique. The use of gravity is inspired.
10. Street Fighter Alpha 3 (1999 Video Game)
T | Action
The third in the Alpha series with a total of 31 fighters, the addition of three selectable fighting styles, new stages, and new theme music for all the returning characters.
11. Micro Machines (1991 Video Game)
Micro Machines is a racing video game developed by Codemasters and originally published by Camerica for the NES. Themed around Galoob's Micro Machines toys, players race in miniaturized toy vehicles around various environments.
A peerless multiplayer experience. Micro Machines 2 and '96 on the MegaDrive are my favourite versions.
13. Virtua Fighter 2 (1994 Video Game)
T | Action, Adventure
Claim the championship in Virtua Fighter 2.
Not a match for Soul Calibur, but still more enjoyable than Tekken.

When the Evil Magikoopa, Kamek, is out to kidnap Baby Mario, Yoshi is on a mission to successfully carry Baby Mario back to his parents in the Mushroom Kingdom.
16. Sega Rally Championship (1995 Video Game)
Play and win the "World Championship".
Director: Hisao Oguchi
It could have done with more stages to create some longevity. Otherwise this game is terrific, with amazing graphics for its time.
17. Guardian Heroes (1996 Video Game)
Action, Adventure, Fantasy
A great side-scrolling 2D beat-em-up for the Saturn, where characters fight on 3 different planes of action. I prefer the Streets of Rage 2 style, but this was still a great effort.
19. Contra: Hard Corps (1994 Video Game)
Action, Adventure, Family
Five years after the events of Contra III: The Alien Wars, an elite commando unit known as the "Unified Military Special Mobile Task Force K-X", or the "Contra Hard Corps", are sent to take... See full summary »

T | Action, Adventure, Family
On the small island civilization of Hillys, the DomZ creatures are a ruthless alien race which have invaded the Hillyan people. The government has set up the Alpha Section, which is a society "devoted to the safety of Hillys".
An unjustly overlooked gem, bursting with ideas.

The witch Gruntilda has captured Banjo's beloved sister, intending to leech the girl's youth and beauty through black magic and mad science. Banjo and Kazooie set out across nine worlds to get her back.

T | Action, Adventure, Comedy
In 2401, humanity is at war with relentless aliens, TimeSplitters. Space marines Cortez and Hart travel through time to stop the aliens in various spots, including Wild West, zombie-infested Gothic church and Blade Runner-esque future.
The main game is fairly average, but the huge range of diverse and inventive submissions are really enjoyable.
