Groundhog Day was the 13th highest grossing movie of 1993, with Jurassic Park taking the top spot that year. If you're wondering how long it took Phil to wake up on Feb. 3, actor Stephen Tobolowsky recently told Variety, "Harold Ramis told me that the film actually takes place over 10,000 years, based on the Buddhist principle that it takes 10,000 years for the human soul to be perfect.” Tobolowsky continued, "And Harold Ramis was a Buddhist."
