Arno's 10 Reasons to Stay Up Late on a Work Night8 of 10
It Comes at Night
Trey Edward Shults' horror story was divisive because its psych-out marketing made it feel like a conventional thriller, but this isn't a standard genre exercise. Instead, It Comes at Night drops its audience right into an ominous setting without establishing any sort of context. There's a tentative family dynamic where a young man watches his father commit violent acts in order to protect those he loves, and, oh, some sort of plague is afoot, because grandpa gets buried and burned in the first few minutes. If you haven't seen this movie, stay away from red doors and know that it is as relentless and hopeless as "The Walking Dead" was at its peak.
