Michael’s 10 Best British Movies of 20178 of 10
3. Paddington 2
As this list proves, a sequel can hardly ever recapture the magic of the original, which makes Paddington a rare bear. The first movie was a surprise back in 2014, taking a beloved children’s character and bringing it to a modern audience, without losing the warmth and charm of the original. The sequel is even better, with hilarious set pieces and a fantastic performance from Hugh Grant as a washed-up actor who frames Paddington and gets the young bear thrown in prison. The film’s message of tolerance and forgiveness could not come at a better time. And did I mention it’s really funny.
