4. "The City and the City"
If you don’t have 12-plus hours to invest in a TV series and are looking for something to watch that’s challenging, surreal, fantastical, and kind of ambiguous, then you should track down BBCs 4-hour adaptation of China Miéville's fantasy novel "The City and The City." It's an interesting mix of police procedural and urban fantasy, where hard-boiled detective Tyador Borlú (David Morrissey) of the Extreme Crime Squad is given the difficult task of solving a murder mystery where the crime-scene and suspects span two realities. The story steadily ratcheted up the suspense and kept me guessing up to an ending that I didn’t really see coming and ultimately left me with a lot to think about ... and a desire to read the novel.
