"Counterpart"
What would you do if you found out a much cooler, way more bad-ass mirror-universe version of yourself existed, and then had to swap lives with them in order to stop a cross-dimensional terrorist threat? "Counterpart" answers that question. Although it runs on a very sci-fi premise (in 1987, East German scientists accidentally opened a portal to a parallel Earth) "Counterpart" feels far more like a throwback Cold War spy drama than a futuristic thriller. The series highlight is definitely J.K. Simmons' riveting performance as both mild-mannered bureaucrat Howard Silk and jaded veteran spy Howard Prime. It's easy to forget he’s not actually two people when you’re watching him in action. — Vanessa
