Director: Jourdan McClure | Stars: Bill Oberst Jr., Hannah Levien, Whitney Nielsen, Nich Kauffman

Votes: 668

Totally nuts. Despite its no-budget looks, it’s of real substance — thanks to strong acting and a mixed tone of disturbance and tension. Definitely one of the most sublime I have come across lately: A trippy, all-around gritty ride in every sense that gets better with each watch.

9. The Atticus Institute (2015)

TV-14 | 83 min | Horror

When the US government attempts to weaponize the power of a possessed woman, they soon discover that there are forces that exist in this world that simply cannot be controlled.

Director: Chris Sparling | Stars: Rya Kihlstedt, William Mapother, Sharon Maughan, Harry Groener

Votes: 9,335

Real shame that this film has been brutally slammed. Because it's smartly done just about every level: Less shaky, more story, more depth, more spirit, and a sense for mild dread over every frame. One of my favs of 2015, and more importantly one of the coolest possession films of the decade.

10. Noroi (2005)

Not Rated | 115 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

A documentary filmmaker explores seemingly unrelated paranormal incidents connected by the legend of an ancient demon called the "kagutaba."

Director: Kôji Shiraishi | Stars: Jin Muraki, Rio Kanno, Tomono Kuga, Marika Matsumoto

Votes: 15,308

Creeping the *beep* out of everybody in its heydays, this J-horror hits maximum creepiness in its genre 'til today. Real, gritty, freaky, and a spellbinding atmosphere: that's a mix that far too many films need – and far too few get it right.

Highly rewatchable – it gets me every time I watch it. Check it out if you can stomach a ton of low-fi VHS footage.

11. Zivot i smrt porno bande (2009)

90 min | Adventure, Drama, Horror

An aspiring film maker turns to porn after little success, then falls into a pursuit of crime with his band of misfits and suffers the repercussions of their unprecedented journey.

Director: Mladen Djordjevic | Stars: Mihajlo Jovanovic, Ana Acimovic, Srboljub Milin, Radivoj Knezevic

Votes: 2,354

Man, just when you think you've seen it all... Balkan chillers are always freaky, but this one is super freaky. Imagine Srpski Film meets Mondo Bizarro meets some FF-esque travelogue. Actually, it's more far-out than that. While 'Porno Bande crosses a lot of boundaries, the tone is always lighthearted, sometimes bordering on bittersweet melancholy, and its Eurosleaze practically drips off of the screen.

If you like your chiller macabre and edgy, then you absolutely need to see this carnival ride for yourself.

12. Look (2007)

R | 102 min | Comedy, Crime, Drama

50 Metascore

The lies, betrayal, and desires of nine different groups of people are revealed as they live out their secret lives in the sight of the security cameras that capture our every movement.

Director: Adam Rifkin | Stars: Jamie McShane, Spencer Redford, Hayes MacArthur, Nichelle Hines

Votes: 1,862 | Gross: $0.02M

Technically a voyeuristic mix of tons of security cams, Look explores a world where someone's always watching. Following five loosely interwoven tales, it's ambitious right from the very first minute. Clearly, not the most coherent film from the early days of FF, but also a bit of a genre legend.

13. Final Prayer (2013)

R | 89 min | Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller

A team of Vatican investigators descend upon a church in a remote area to demystify the unusual happenings, but what they discover is more disturbing than they had first imagined.

Director: Elliot Goldner | Stars: Gordon Kennedy, Robin Hill, Aidan McArdle, Sarah Annis

Votes: 9,997

Far too god for the VOD graveyard! Yet again, a seemingly cheap film about spooky goings-on turns out to be a strong one really. What it lacks in budget it makes up for in solid performances and an unsettling location. Celtic crosses, ancient altars, a rural church, foggy skies over mystical meadows – basically, this is Poltergeist with a pastoral setting. Or is it pagan in the end?

14. Operation Avalanche (2016)

R | 94 min | Comedy, Drama, Mystery

69 Metascore

In 1967, four undercover CIA agents were sent to NASA posing as a documentary film crew. What they discovered led to one of the biggest conspiracies in American history.

Director: Matt Johnson | Stars: Matt Johnson, Owen Williams, Andrew Appelle, Jared Raab

Votes: 7,960 | Gross: $0.06M

For non-believers! For true believers, and those trying to believe! Retro-conspiracy theory at its best by all means. Spiced up with self-mockery and vintage feel, 'Avalanche is a potent take on a topic that has become somewhat predictable and lush.

Fake moon landing rating: 07/10. And 09/10 if you loved The Dirties (2013).

15. Megan Is Missing (2011)

Not Rated | 85 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

Two teenage girls encounter an Internet child predator.

Director: Michael Goi | Stars: Amber Perkins, Rachel Quinn, Dean Waite, Jael Elizabeth Steinmeyer

Votes: 15,451

Proud anti-art that rattles the mind! Plays in the same gritty league as 'Poughkeepsie Tapes. Plus, a tough subject matter amps up the terror thrill. Brutally realistic, insidiously mild, uncompromisingly low-fi: Just as FF was originally intended to do. If you can’t fetishize FF, fetishize something else. However, if you're a FF-addict — you really owe it to yourself to see it.

16. The Den (2013)

R | 76 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

48 Metascore

While studying the habits of web cam chat users from the apparent safety of her own home, a young woman's life begins to spiral out of control after witnessing a grisly murder online.

17. Exhibit A (2007)

Not Rated | 85 min | Crime, Drama, Horror

The timely story of a normal family disintegrating under financial pressure, eventually driven to the unimaginable. We witness the terrifying events unfold through daughter Judith's video camera, which subsequently becomes Exhibit A.

Director: Dom Rotheroe | Stars: Bradley Cole, Brittany Ashworth, Angela Forrest, Oliver Lee

Votes: 3,201

The real world is where the monsters are. And family hysteria is the path to the dark side. Exhibit A is an highlight from the golden era of FF: A dysfunctional-family thriller with verve and personality. It embodies the essence of everything FF is supposed to be: authentic, impassioned, and crowned with a corrosive climax. For adventurous fans not afraid of a crow-black low-fi vibes!

18. The Triangle (2016)

Not Rated | 94 min | Horror, Mystery

Four filmmakers take their cameras into the Montana wilderness to document the mysterious inner workings of a young community with a giant secret.

Directors: David Blair, Nathaniel Peterson, Adam Pitman, Andrew Rizzo, Adam Stilwell | Stars: Andrew Rizzo, Lee Rizzo, Brick Patrick, Nathaniel Peterson

Votes: 940

I almost feel so obliged to jump to this films defense. Even sexier than Sacrament and Holy Ghost People, 'Triangle is a surprisingly trippy ride, and one that you should most certainly take. Solely, the lackluster ending suxs. Anyway, I'm proud to see it in my collection.

19. i-Lived (2015)

Not Rated | 97 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

A young online app reviewer's latest assignment mysteriously improves his life, but also starts to tear him apart.

Director: Franck Khalfoun | Stars: Jeremiah Watkins, Sarah Power, Christopher Mena, Elaine Partnow

Votes: 909

Red cape and pointy horns? Not really. In this day and age, the Devil has a sound grasp of contemporary developments, he knows all the dark secrets behind social media's success. About time someone made an indie about it!

Raise your beer to this brazen indie. Absolutely worthy of support!

20. Ghoul (2015)

Not Rated | 86 min | Horror, Thriller

32 Metascore

Three American filmmakers become the targets of the evil spirit of the most violent cannibal in recorded history.

Director: Petr Jákl | Stars: Jennifer Armour, Alina Golovlyova, Jeremy Isabella, Paul S. Tracey

Votes: 2,236

Seriously, am I the only person who loves this? Eastern European setting and cast are hellacious and make the evil spirit thing ghoulish at last. If you liked Beckoning the Butcher as much as I did, then this one might boost your mood.

Fair warning here: If you're not a genre-purist – this isn't for your eyes. Ghoul recycles, on its surface, the same pattern as literally hundreds of similar films. But under the surface, it rewards those naturally gravitating towards Eastern European indies with subtle chills and magic realism. классный!

21. The Conspiracy (2012)

Not Rated | 84 min | Horror, Thriller

A documentary about conspiracy theories takes a horrific turn after the filmmakers uncover an ancient and dangerous secret society.

Director: Christopher MacBride | Stars: Aaron Poole, James Gilbert, Ian Anderson, Peter Apostolopoulos

Votes: 13,101

The one that re-started it all for me. I almost lost hope in ff back then. A terrific flick that combines all sorts of freakish ideas in sexy ways. It shows the same ingenuity only the early X-Files had (at the time) and since has been lost.

Best of all, 'Conspiracy is so convincing you could almost believe it. Even the thought something like 'Conspiracy just might be real makes it more intriguing than any chiller of its kind in recent years. Thanks for that, 'Conspiracy.

22. Evidence (III) (2012)

R | 78 min | Horror, Sci-Fi

Ryan makes a documentary on his friend, Brett, and his first time camping, until a mysterious figure in the woods starts hunting them.

Director: Howie Askins | Stars: Ryan McCoy, Brett Rosenberg, Ashley Bracken, Abigail Richie

Votes: 5,337

An aphrodisiac for luvas! Part orthodox, part unorthodox, the different elements join together seamlessly, resulting in a subtly-menacing flow. Miraculously, the last third even gets the FPS treatment, and is thrilling enough to leave a lasting impression.

23. Crowsnest (2012)

R | 84 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

In late summer of 2011, five young friends on a road trip went missing after being attacked by nomadic cannibals in a huge RV. Video was recorded by the victims & recovered by police as evidence in their still-unsolved murders.

Director: Brenton Spencer | Stars: Mittita Barber, Aslam Husain, Victor Zinck Jr., Chelsey Reist

Votes: 1,747

Lovely! Don’t know what's going on with 'em rotten tomatoes, nor do I care. Crowsnest is fun enough to make it a winner. Its backwoods concept may be trite to some, but it scores points as all great FF-films score points: with a gritty and insanely entertaining layer of realism that traditional versions painfully lack. Big smile on my face from start to finish.

24. Inner Demons (I) (2014)

Not Rated | 85 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

35 Metascore

A reality television crew, whose show features stories about drug addicts, finds that their 16-year-old junkie for their latest episode might actually not be fighting addiction, but a demonic force gripping her soul.

Director: Seth Grossman | Stars: Lara Vosburgh, Kevan McClellan, Kate Whitney, Brian Flaherty

Votes: 2,671

Took me by storm! Possession dramas multiply like rabbits lately, and the great ones are increasingly difficult to narrow down. No doubt this FF definitely is one of my top 5 all-time favorites of the subgenre already! The social commentary on self-medicating works so well that it's easy to forgive Inner Demons its minor flaws.

25. Hardcore Henry (2015)

R | 96 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

51 Metascore

Henry is resurrected from death with no memory, and he must save his wife from a telekinetic warlord with a plan to bio-engineer soldiers.

Director: Ilya Naishuller | Stars: Sharlto Copley, Tim Roth, Haley Bennett, Danila Kozlovskiy

Votes: 101,864 | Gross: $9.25M

This is what Motörhead is to Rock 'N' Roll, what Chris Liebing is to Techno, what R* is to gamers: Stuff for legends! Not since 'Crank have I seen a thriller as crazy as 'Hardcore. Enhanced with first-class POV, 'Henry takes things to a whole new level of extremity. Instead of a tired narrative we are treated with a loopy shootout stretched to the max. Deliciously violent. Has to be seen to be believed.

26. End of Watch (2012)

R | 109 min | Action, Crime, Drama

68 Metascore

Shot documentary-style, this film follows the daily grind of two young police officers in LA who are partners and friends and what happens when they meet criminal forces greater than themselves.

Director: David Ayer | Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Peña, Anna Kendrick, America Ferrera

Votes: 268,958 | Gross: $41.00M

Another self-explanatory one. Perfectly pitched. Dangerously catchy. Compelling performances. Binge-worthy like you wouldn't believe. Undeniably one of the best pure FF-films of the decade.

27. The Houses October Built (2014)

Not Rated | 91 min | Horror, Thriller

Five friends are stalked by a group of mysterious and disturbed individuals while on a road trip looking for the ultimate haunted house attraction.

Director: Bobby Roe | Stars: Brandy Schaefer, Zack Andrews, Bobby Roe, Mikey Roe

Votes: 10,563

Halloween has been done to death, and the thought of yet another pumpkin project has lost its gusto. Thankfully, ‘Houses takes a different route, looking behind the scenes of the haunted-house-industry. The epic title says it all.

The footage may not be real, but the lines between fact and fiction have never been fuzzier. All Hallows' Eve – ready to go!

28. House with 100 Eyes (2013)

Not Rated | 75 min | Horror

The House with 100 Eyes is both shocking and satirical, a grisly horror-comedy about an average American suburban couple who happen to also be serial killers creating snuff videos of their crimes. All is well, until their victims rebel!

Directors: Jay Lee, Jim Roof | Stars: Jim Roof, Shannon Malone, Larissa Lynch, Liz Burghdorf

Votes: 395

Overflowing with sick and twisted atmosphere, 'House turns striking vibes formerly known as "torture porn" into something that is stunning and cool again. The ending doesn’t disappoint, either.

Puts balls on FF. Embodies everything that’s great about the genre's dark side we all love. Totally worth your time, even if you're not so much into FF.

29. Ratter (2015)

R | 80 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

A young graduate student is tormented by a stalker who hacks into her electronic devices and monitors her every move.

Director: Branden Kramer | Stars: Ashley Benson, Matt McGorry, Kaili Vernoff, Rebecca Naomi Jones

Votes: 11,497

Remote access trojans make Spring Breaker's Ashley Benson life a living hell. 'Ratter couldn't be more cliché if it tried, curiously enough, it's pretty, pretty good, though. Even the half-baked ending can't ruin this suspenser. Shot-entirely-on-iPhone is the name of the game. And it succeeds where many others fail. Please note: Even if you tend to be pro-FF, you may find the obstructed angels and device footage incredibly irritating at times.

30. Dabbe: The Possession (2013)

134 min | Horror

Ahead of her wedding, Kübra is possessed by demons. When an examination reveals more horror, her friend, a psychiatrist, tries to perform an exorcism.

Director: Hasan Karacadag | Stars: Elçin Atamgüç, Orhan Gencer, Sultan Köroglu Kiliç, Oguzhan Kocakli

Votes: 7,413

Finally, a horror that actually feels like it's Horror for once! Dabbe gives the genre an "Extreme Makeover: Oriental Edition": Eastern mysticism, Djinns, Turkish voodoo, black magic spells and runes, mythical demonic energy, traditional charms, and who knows what else. Magic kicks in without warning, the fun never stops coming, the storytelling has more steam than a whirling dervish and is given tons of love and attention — something that Western horrors have seemingly forgotten about.

There aren't many indies out there you could compare to this magnum opus: An exceptional horror by any standards!

31. Apocalypse Cult (2014)

PG-13 | 84 min | Horror, Mystery

While investigating the legend of a mysterious group of religious people living in the forest, a local news crew becomes trapped in the grasp of a doomsday cult, who are about to execute their final act of devotion and biblical punishment.

Director: Glenn Triggs | Stars: Jane Elizabeth Barry, Geoff Pinfield, David Macrae, Ashleigh Gregory

Votes: 1,298

Passion instead of triviality, soul instead of clichés: 'Apocalyptic can hold its head up high. A dazzling blend of 'Invitation (2015) and 'Sacrament (2013), only much more low-budget-ish. Okay, barbarously low-budget-ish, but all the creepier for it.

32. Cannibal Holocaust (1980)

Unrated | 95 min | Adventure, Horror

22 Metascore

During a rescue mission into the Amazon rainforest, a professor stumbles across lost film shot by a missing documentary crew.

Director: Ruggero Deodato | Stars: Robert Kerman, Francesca Ciardi, Perry Pirkanen, Luca Barbareschi

Votes: 61,109

Ahhhh, treasured memories of times gone by! The mother of all true cannibal films. The mother of all FF-films. And, first and foremost, the mother of politically incorrect cinema! If you're an 80's kid you're mos def plagued by sentimentality right now. And for those of you who aren't old enough, you have no idea how sexy Deodato's relict was back in the days: It was inescapable, no binge-party without a worn-out VHS bootleg! Its menacing reputation not only outstripped the movie itself but pushed the obscure cannibal sub-genre to new heights. Most notable, Green Inferno, the notorious film-within-the-film, gave birth to FF. The rest is history...

Of course, 'Holocaust isn't shocking by todays standards. Still, as vintage-horror playing by its own rules, 'Holocaust is still raw, still nasty, still thought-provoking — morally, politically and technically. Its media criticism may have been ahead of its times in 1980, but its coming back with a vengeance now.

Majestic indie art. From 1980 until today and beyond. All hail gory glory!

33. The Upper Footage (UPPER) (2013)

Not Rated | 90 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller

'THE UPPER FOOTAGE' is the first film experience of its kind. The film is an edited version of 393 minutes of recovered footage documenting a young girl's tragic overdose death and ... See full summary »

Not an absolute must-watch, especially if you’re repelled by non-violent films. But if you're like me, you like "Is it real or not?"-stuff. And if so, you are in for a delightful and atmospheric treat. Just don’t expect edge-of-your-seat thrills. Severely slow-burning stuff incoming!

34. Beware the Slenderman (2016)

TV-14 | 114 min | Documentary, Biography, Crime

Tells the story of two 12-year old girls, who attempted to murder one of their friends in an attempt to appease Slenderman, a fictional monster from a horror website.

Director: Irene Taylor | Stars: Morgan Geyser, Anissa Weier, Angie Geyser, William Weier

Votes: 7,804

At first FF started to fake documentaries. Now documentaries start to emulate FF. Wicked, isn't it? Slowly but surely it gets difficult to distinguish one from the other. But that's when things start to get really interesting, right?

35. Chupacabra Territory (2016)

Not Rated | 94 min | Horror

The Chupacabra is real and four friends will document it! Will they survive?

Director: Matt McWilliams | Stars: Sarah Nicklin, Michael Reed, Alex Hayek, Bryant Jansen

Votes: 1,363

With increased sightings since in 1995, the Chupacabra seems to pop up all over the world: from Mexico all the way to the Ukraine! It was only a question of time that some weirdos with cams would stumble into the lair of the beast.

For starters, this is exactly the kind of movie you'd expect it to be. Those who love to constantly complain about lack of originality should stay far, far away! Not sure why I like it so much. Partly, because it's funny and light-hearted all around — thanx to the most unlikeable nerd-actors in recent history. May the Chupacabra feast on their flesh!

36. Subconscious (2010)

72 min | Horror

Fanis is tormented by the same dream every night, in which he wanders through a dark forest. As he searches for the truth, Fanis begins to suspect that some of the people he meets are not who they say they are.

Director: Chris Petropoulos | Stars: Fanis Katrivesis, Danijela Milenkovic

Votes: 213

Now, if you feel the slightest bit uncomfortable about FF, I'd say the best bet is to avoid this. Really, Subconscious is a tough one — even for the most keen and eager connoisseurs. Nothing but blackness for the most part, literally! Then again, for those of you who consider themselves to be hardcore, I highly suggest you pick it up. With everything pretty much done to death, it's very refreshing to see a slightly different approach for a change.

37. Wer (2013)

R | 93 min | Action, Horror, Mystery

A defense attorney begins to suspect that there might be more to her client, who is charged with the murders of a vacationing family, than meets the eye.

Director: William Brent Bell | Stars: A.J. Cook, Brian Scott O'Connor, Sebastian Roché, Simon Quarterman

Votes: 9,782

I can already see the millions disagreeing. But for me Wer is the first film in ages that makes me wanna howl at the Full Moon. It's refreshingly straight-forward, makes the most of its small budget and breathes new life into Lycanthropy. Although it snitches excessively from every style-defining horror of the last 10 years. On the downside, it takes some unexpectedly lame turns for its last 10 minutes. But these are just minor flaws, really, and overall it’s certainly a very good FF. And better than most anyway.

38. Skew (2011)

Too smart to milk clichés! One of the earliest films of the 00's FF wave, and one of my first BDs. Probably shot in 2005, it wasn’t until 2011 that the movie got a proper limited release. The fact that it has been underrated for so long has given it a 'lil special status. A tasty film for those fed up with normal FF. Warning: The ending is boldly ambiguous and confusing. Seriously, my throat hurt from swearing. Looking for details is key! And if that doesn't help... hit your search engines.

39. V/H/S Viral (2014)

R | 81 min | Adventure, Crime, Horror

38 Metascore

A Los Angeles police chase sends a fame-obsessed man on a wild ride to save his girlfriend from a cybernetic terror.

Directors: Justin Benson, Gregg Bishop, Todd Lincoln, Aaron Moorhead, Marcel Sarmiento, Nacho Vigalondo | Stars: Patrick Lawrie, Emilia Ares, Celia K. Milius, Steve Berens

Votes: 19,208 | Gross: $0.00M

Don’t like the predecessors much — except for the otherworldly hellish segment "Safe Haven". Anyhow, what we have here is a strong threequel of three full-blooded stories, each more catchy than the previous. Alas, the frame plot – the film that links the stories allegedly – is a wasteful mess.

40. Afflicted (2013)

R | 85 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

56 Metascore

Two best friends see their trip of a lifetime take a dark turn when one of them is struck by a mysterious affliction. Now, in a foreign land, they race to uncover the source before it consumes him completely.

Directors: Derek Lee, Clif Prowse | Stars: Clif Prowse, Derek Lee, Michael Gill, Baya Rehaz

Votes: 25,578 | Gross: $0.12M

This was so long overdue! Resurrection of the vampire subgenre? Right here.

41. They're Watching (2016)

Not Rated | 95 min | Comedy, Horror, Thriller

39 Metascore

The renovation of an old house in a village somewhere in Eastern Europe will bring the crew of an American home improvement TV show up against superstitions, misunderstandings and bloody violence.

Directors: Jay Lender, Micah Wright | Stars: Mia Marcon, Kris Lemche, David Alpay, Brigid Brannagh

Votes: 4,970

It’s always refreshing when ff successfully branches out. One the face of it 'Watching is bursting with common genre-tropes, but it's a completely different beast overall. What sets it most notably way above standard genre fare is its crude blend of Borat-like irony and "young Sam Raimi"-ish humor. When has that ever happened before?

42. A Night in the Woods (2011)

To some, the most shameless Blair Witch (1999) rip-off of all. To me, the film Blair Witch wishes it was. Like super obviously. As the name suggests, it has a rather darkly romantic focus on the woods. Its gloomy depressive vibe in the second half puts any Black Metal to shame. All in all, it's a win! But Blair Witch fans, be warned: If you love the "original" it's quite likely that this UK makeover will bore you to death and you're wasting your time.

A real hidden gem in my book! Just like: In Memorium (2005), Hotel Hollywood (2010), Embedded (2012),... All these films have different focuses – but share the same fate: they're a rare find. Won't take long before they disappear into nirwana. Catch 'em while you can!

44. Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014)

R | 84 min | Horror, Mystery

Director: Christopher Landon | Stars: Andrew Jacobs, Jorge Diaz, Gabrielle Walsh, Gloria Sandoval

This side-quel fuses together Chronicle-ish ideas and Hispanic flavor. Does it save the series from burnout? No. But it's my highlight of the franchise nevertheless.

45. The Dirties (2013)

Not Rated | 83 min | Crime, Drama

65 Metascore

Two best friends are filming a comedy about getting revenge on the bullies at their high school. One of them isn't joking.

Director: Matt Johnson | Stars: Matt Johnson, Owen Williams, Padraig Singal, Ross Hill

Cabins, woods, asylums, Big Foot – forget all that for now! 'Dirties takes you to places you think you already know and challenges you to see them in a different light. School can be a thorny path, and for some misfits the last day of school can't come soon enough. A fresh approach to an already subversive spin on FF, even though it's not strictly horror

46. Devil's Pass (2013)

R | 100 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

49 Metascore

A group of students go to the location of the infamous Dyatlov pass incident to make a documentary, but things take a turn for the worse as the secret of what happened there is revealed.

The Urals: The final frontier... where no Western ff crew has gone before. So far! Don't let the haters fool you — this mystery tour is surprisingly cool, also brings a bit of the Urals to your living room, and provides the best ending since Absentia for sure, albeit without heart-stressing scares. Indies that leave you wondering what actually(!) happened are rare. This is one of them.

47. The Mirror (III) (2014)

Not Rated | 88 min | Horror

Three intrepid flatmates who purchase the supposedly haunted antique on eBay and set up round the clock cameras in the hopes of capturing evidence of something going bump in the night.

Director: Edward Boase | Stars: Jemma Dallender, Joshua Dickinson, Nate Fallows, Abby Ford

Votes: 1,374

In many ways, this pick is pointless as the vast majority of people will find it disappointingly pedestrian and uninspiring. But I've always had a thing for Horror's unspectacular side: Silly little things like dolls, masks, mirrors and all. For those of you who appreciate the same, this might be a film worth chasing down. Typical paranormal stuff, perhaps, but smartly done and it works amazingly well in this case.

48. Camera Trap (2014)

93 min | Thriller

A wildlife film crew pursue local sightings of a rare wildcat in Central Asia using high-tech camera equipment.

Director: Alex Verner | Stars: Mark Bonnar, Ross Marquand, Paul Thornley, Ana Ularu

Votes: 129

Ushering in the age of the Parkinson cam, Blair Witch famously has resulted in a lot of clones since 1999. Unfortunately about 90% of these clones turn out to be painful experiences. Therefore I'm glad to say that Camera Trap deserves to be watched. While it isn’t ground-breaking by any means, it has enough heart and soul to pack a punch. Plus, it’s certainly up there on the technically brilliant scale. Promise!

49. Grace (I) (2014)

R | 87 min | Horror, Thriller

Grace is an 18-year-old Catholic girl whose purity is overtaken by a demonic force. Will it consume her?

Director: Jeff Chan | Stars: Alexia Fast, Lin Shaye, Alan Dale, Alexis Knapp

Just three reasons why this demonic possession drama elevates from other films of its ilk: Catchy. Cool. And a convincing POV all along the line!

Graced with passion and spirit!

No, this ain't no porn crossover. And yes, I can see why nearly everyone hates this rehash, but since it's my love list I'm adding it. Each time I watch it the smoky lead keeps me so intrigued, I forget all about the corny twist in the last act.

If you're a FF-addict, you've probably seen it anyway. And if so, admit it, she fooled you, too.

51. The Butcher Possessions (2014)

70 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

When Chris Shaw takes his friends out to an isolated house to make a web video, they summon an evil spirit and must fight for survival once it begins to hunt them down.

Director: Dale Trott | Stars: Damien E. Lipp, Stephanie Mauro, Sophie Wright, Tristan Barr

Votes: 526

So, what is it exactly, that people hate about this? How could this possibly be bad!?! My oh my, the Horror scene is going to *beep* Of course, the film gets a little out of hand at times. But if it's proud and pure FF you're after — then this is after your own heart. Beckoning the Butcher takes you back to a time when the genre was new and mysterious; where dramatic energy and full-on fun were a must in the genre. Don’t listen to Tomatos, this is cool.

52. The Last Exorcism (2010)

PG-13 | 87 min | Horror, Mystery, Thriller

63 Metascore

A troubled evangelical minister agrees to let his last exorcism be filmed by a documentary crew.

Director: Daniel Stamm | Stars: Patrick Fabian, Ashley Bell, Iris Bahr, Louis Herthum

Votes: 52,099 | Gross: $41.03M

Successfully revitalizes horror's deepest, most archetypical theme that needs to be retold all over again and again.

One of Eli's best collabos, one of FF's best, one of the best exorcism films around. Real shame the sequel is rather weak: Abalam deserves better than this.

53. Septem8er Tapes (2004)

R | 95 min | Drama, Thriller, War

32 Metascore

One year after 9/11, an American journalist travels to Afghanistan in an effort to learn the truth about the search for Osama bin Laden.

Director: Christian Johnston | Stars: George Calil, Wali Razaqi, Sunil Sadarangani, Baba Jon

Votes: 849

A punchy reminder of when FF was new and mysterious, and one of those films that has flown under the radar for far too long. Retrospectively, it could use a dose or two of speed. But as for authenticity, Septem8er Tapes is hard to top. The filmmakers had the balls to shoot in Afghanistan during July 2002. You hardly see anyone making movies like that today, those guys were insane!

54. Hangman (II) (2015)

TV-MA | 85 min | Horror, Thriller

Returning from vacation, the Miller family find their home has been broken into. After cleaning up the mess they continue with their lives, shaking off the feeling of being violated. But little do they know the nightmare has just begun.

Director: Adam Mason | Stars: Jeremy Sisto, Kate Ashfield, Ryan Simpkins, Ty Simpkins

Votes: 2,687

Ok, all of you haters, you better avoid this one. Hangman mashes-up all the clichés around. A stranger in the attic, a house stuffed to the gills with spy cams, well – you know the rest! Essentially, it’s Alone with Her reloaded. Almost feels like cheating, but yes, it’s cool! Good old fashion FF-fun.

55. Jeruzalem (2015)

R | 94 min | Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller

45 Metascore

Directors: Doron Paz, Yoav Paz | Stars: Yael Grobglas, Yon Tumarkin, Danielle Jadelyn, Tom Graziani

Votes: 10,941

Okay, the effects are sorta cheesy, but it doesn't really matter: When it comes to POV, this flick reigns supreme! Less b/c of its fake GoPro-glasses or adrenaline-driven ride, but b/c it subtly absorbs the infectious unrest that has haunted the city IRL for eons. Imfo, this is way more sinister than anything CGI could put on screen.

A paranormal investigator travels to the South to research a series of deaths connected to a supernatural curse haunting an old Louisiana family........................................................................................ '''''''''''Does Louisiana justice'''''''''''' 22 April 2017 | by Brianna Gonzales This is the type of pensive film where you need to pay attention and absorb all details on the screen. The cinematography does Louisiana justice, with the unmistakable nature sounds and the evocative imagery of the swamps and cemeteries taking the viewer to a whole new realm full of mystery and enchantment. This well-written independent film uncovers more and more clues as it advances, and it might require a second viewing to reveal all of its secrets. Despite its low budget, this small film benefits from the lush beauty and esoteric energy of Louisiana, and a good mystery plot. .'
