1. San Quentin (1937)

Approved | 70 min | Crime, Drama, Film-Noir

An army trainer becomes captain of the prison yard and in time, falls for the sister of a hardened inmate.

Director: Lloyd Bacon | Stars: Pat O'Brien, Ann Sheridan, Humphrey Bogart, Barton MacLane

Votes: 2,236

Also Starring: Joe Sawyer, Veda Ann Borg, Marc Lawrence Uncredited: Gino Corrado, Frank Faylen, James Flavin, Eddie Gribbon, Dick Wessel, Robert J. Wilke, Gary Owen, Al Hill.

Humphrey Bogart plays Ann Sheridan's kid brother in this film, even though in real life he was actually older than her by 15 years. In the radio broadcast in the film, he's described as 25 years old.

Two of the songs from the film, "How Could You" and "When My Dream Boat Comes Home" are featured in the Looney Tunes cartoon "Porky's Bad-time Story," also released by Warner Brothers in 1937. "When My Dream Boat Comes Home" and a third song from the film, "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" can also be heard in other Looney Tunes cartoons such as "The Swooner Crooner" and "Rabbit Every Monday."

Character actor Gino Corrado would co-star with Humphrey Bogart once again 5 years later in the immortal Casablanca and once again playing a uncredited role as a waiter!

There were at least four Three Stooges foils in this film! Gino Corrado, Al Hill, Eddie Gribbon, and Dick Wessel. Out of all of the four only Gribbon stood out in a memorably funny scene as the singing convict O'Brien makes an example of.

Don't blink or you will miss a very young Robert J Wilke as a young convict in the prison yard.
