Sango and Miroku got engaged towards the end of season 5 of "Inuyasha". For the longest time, both Miroku and Sango have secretly developed romantic feelings for each other and have fallen in love. However, they often have trouble expressing and admitting their true feelings and Sango becomes annoyed due to Miroku's perverted actions and flirting with other women. Although they often refused to admit their feelings, Miroku and Sango's love is well aware among the rest of the group with everyone often discussing their romance, somewhat similar to Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship. Eventually, during an encounter with a village with possessed women under the control of a Salamander demon, they were finally forced to confront their true feelings at last.
Sango became increasingly upset and jealous when Miroku began flirting with all the village women, causing her to go off alone to fight the demon by herself, but was quickly captured and fell under its control. Miroku was oblivious to Sango's jealousy and was unaware of her absence until he found himself fighting the possessed women alone. Miroku went on in search of Sango and was later forced to fight against her until he managed to free her from the demon's control. In the aftermath of the battle and demon's defeat, Miroku realized the role he played which lead to the current events and apologized to Sango for his actions.
Miroku and Sango share a private moment alone and Miroku begins to express his feelings, confessing to Sango she is very special to him and finally admits his deep feelings for her. However, he also confesses that he believes he can't love her as an ordinary woman since they are comrades in battle. Sango is heartbroken, believing Miroku simply wants them to remain friends. However, Miroku is not yet done and asks that if the battle with Naraku ends and the curse of the Wind Tunnel is broken, will Sango come live with him. At long last, Miroku declares his love for Sango by asking her to marry him and be the mother of his children. Sango is awestruck by Miroku's proposal and tearfully accepts.
