Bruce Wayne and Andrea Beaumont were engaged in "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm". In the early stages right before beginning his career as the Dark Knight, Bruce met and fell in love with Andrea in collage. They had a very strong and happy relationship, but he began to struggle if he could still keep his vow to become a defender of the night and still be with Andrea, not wanting to leave her alone if something were to happen to him. Eventually, Bruce decided he was going to give up his life as a vigilante to be with Andrea and planned to propose to her. On the cliffs of Wayne Manor, Bruce and Andrea went on a private walk together where Andrea revealed she was considering leaving Gotham to travel to Europe with her father.
In the hopes of changing her mind, but struggling to find the right words, Bruce gave her a box, revealing it contained a engagement ring, much to her surprise and delight. Andrea happily accepted, admitting she never thought this would happen, believing she was interfering with his plan, but Bruce reassured her and the couple shared a kiss. However, the moment was spoiled when a flock of bats from an underground cave suddenly appeared. Later that night, Bruce drove Andrea home, but seeing her father had business, they decided to wait to tell him about their engagement.
Sadly, Bruce and Andrea were tragically torn apart when Andrea and her father had to flee for their lives to Europe since her father owed money to mobsters. Andrea was forced to call off their engagement and wrote to Bruce in a letter the next day and returned the engagement ring, but kept the truth hidden and lied, claiming she was too young for marriage. Heartbroken and with nothing holding him back any longer, Bruce began his life as Batman, but remained unaware of the truth until years later when he and Andrea were reunited in their adulthood.
