2013 Golden Globes: Surprises, Snubs and Salutes1 of 12
Salute: The next time someone tries to exhume the insipid argument that women aren't as funny as men, just replay the opener of 70th Golden Globe Awards (2013) for that person. Barely three minutes in, hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were gleefully ripping one of the biggest names in Hollywood to shreds: "I haven't been following the controversy over Zero Dark Thirty (2012)," Poehler merrily admitted as she talked about Globe directing nominee Kathryn Bigelow, "but when it comes to torture, I trust the lady who spent three years married to James Cameron."
Poehler then went on to "confuse" the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) for the human papillomavirus, while Fey praised nominee Anne Hathaway for her performance in Les Misérables (2012) by saying, "I have not seen someone so totally alone and abandoned since you were on stage with James Franco at the Oscars."
What's truly great about all this is that they were able to pull off this comedic roughhousing while keeping the audience in their corner...something many would argue Ricky Gervais could not do, even during his best go-round as Globes ringmaster.
Way to go, ladies.
