Cannes Diary: 20146 of 13
Cannes Diary, Day 6: Nicolas Winding Refn, who is on the Cannes Jury this year, is extremely knowledgeable about film. That makes him an even better guest at our annual Cannes IMDb dinner (hosted by our CEO Col Needham) than he already would be. We talked about Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for quite a while. Refn is introducing the screening of the film for Cannes Classics for its 40th anniversary and I'm interviewing Hooper on Thursday. He considers Chainsaw one of few timeless films (one of the others being Citizen Kane). He was also very excited for Ryan Gosling's film, Lost River, which is Un Certain Regard and screens over the next two days.
I also got the chance to meet Peter Franzen, an actor from Finland who is immensely popular there. One of his next roles is the bad guy in the next Sean Penn film, The Gunman from Pierre Morel (director of Taken. Extremely personable but with a rare, retiring and shy quality for an actor.
