If I Could Re-Cast The X-Men...by fnpople2020 | created - 03 Feb 2014 | updated - 19 Oct 2014 | Public
I find great enjoyment in figuring out who would be great in a role for a movie or TV show. Nerdy? yes. But everyone's got a thing...
In my mind, I see a re-imagining of the X-Men franchise that could really be interesting and entertaining.
1. Hugo Weaving
Hugo Wallace Weaving was born on April 4, 1960 in Nigeria, to English parents Anne (Lennard), a tour guide and teacher, and Wallace Weaving, a seismologist. Hugo has an older brother, Simon, and a younger sister, Anna, who both also live and work in Australia. During his early childhood, the ...
Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X): As the Founder of the X-Men, you need someone with a little charisma and strength/presence. It's hard to imagine anyone other than Patrick Stewart in this role, but if I had to choose a younger Professor X, it'd be Hugo.
Actress | Django Unchained
Kerry Washington was born on January 31, 1977 in The Bronx, New York City, New York, USA as Kerry Marisa Washington. She is an actress and producer, known for Django Unchained (2012), Scandal (2012) and Save the Last Dance (2001). She has been married to Nnamdi Asomugha since June 24, 2013. They ...
Ororo Monroe (Storm): A daughter of a Kenyan princess and an American photojournalist, Ororo Monroe was an orphan early in life but carried a presence about her that commanded respect and attention. Kerry Washington has an elegance that cannot be matched, and her as Storm would be utterly amazing!
3. Luke Evans
Actor | Dracula Untold
Luke George Evans was born in Pontypool, Wales, and grew up in Aberbargoed, in the south of Wales. He is the son of Yvonne (Lewis) and David Evans. He moved to Cardiff at the age 17. He then won a scholarship to the London Studio Centre, and graduated in 2000.
He starred in many of London's West End...
James "Logan" Howlett (Wolverine): Much like Patrick Stewart (Professor Xavier), Sir Ian McKellan (Magneto) and Kelsey Grammar (Beast), some actors just seem to be born for their X-Men roles. Hugh Jackman is no different with his break-through role as Wolverine in the current franchise. But let's face it: Hugh's NOT going to live forever like Logan, so the mantle will eventually have to be passed on.
Luke Evans could really do this role justice. He's just going to need to do A LOT of working out for the role. Like Jackman, Evans is much taller than what the comic portrays The Wolverine as. But this is the 21st Century, and special effects are pretty awesome these days.
Actress | Jurassic World
Bryce Dallas Howard was born on March 2, 1981, in Los Angeles, California. She was conceived in Dallas, Texas (the reason for her middle name). Her father, Ron Howard, is a former actor turned Oscar-winning director. Her mother is actress and writer Cheryl Howard (née Alley). Her famous relatives ...
Jean Grey (Marvel Girl): Someone who could play an engaged and interesting Jean Grey (sorry, Famke LOOKED the part but had an awful role in the X-Men movies). Whoever plays this role has to be convincing as someone dangerous yet likeable. Jean was never an ice queen, never emotionless. Bryce could pull off the role quite well.
5. Sam Page
Actor | Self/less
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as Sam Elliott, Sam Page attended Princeton University where he earned a BA in ecology and evolutionary biology. For his senior thesis, Page wrote about the mating habits of a female mosquitofish; the work was published in a science journal.
After graduation, Page went ...
Scott Summers (Cyclops): I'd like Cyclops to be a bit more relevant and interesting, and I think Sam Page has both the look and acting chops to pull something like this off. He has a leader-type quality to him that could work through a franchise. It never made sense to me growing up how Wolverine always stole the show. Maybe a story line that shows Scott's leadership skills is in order?
Actor | The Vampire Diaries
Ian Somerhalder was born and raised in the small southern town of Covington, Louisiana. His mother, Edna (née Israel), is a massage therapist, and his father, Robert Somerhalder, is a building contractor. He has Cajun (French), English, and Scots-Irish ancestry. Boating, swimming, fishing and ...
Rémy LeBeau (Gambit): There is literally NO ONE I would rather have play my favorite X-Man than Ian Somerhalder. If he can master the New Orleans accent, he would be the scene-stealer of the X-Men movies!
7. Summer Glau
Actress | Serenity
Summer is a native of San Antonio, Texas. She's been a ballerina most of her life. Her debut was in various commercials and a guest appearance on the WB's Angel (1999). She has gone on to star on the TV series Firefly (2002) as well as its follow-up movie Serenity (2005) and the TV series ...
Anna Marie "Darkhölme" (Rogue): If you ever watched 'Firefly' and the movie 'Serentiy,' then you've seen what Summer Glau is capable of. She would be AWESOME as a kick-ass Rogue. No offense to the Bryan Singer films, but Anna Paquin's Rogue was actually Jubilee from the X-Men cartoon series. THIS Rogue would be bad to the bone fun, and seeing Summer play a Southern belle could be fun!
Actor | Cheers
A six-time Emmy Award winner, Kelsey Grammer was born in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, to Sally (Cranmer), a singer, and Frank Allen Grammer, Jr., a musician and restaurateur. He was raised in New Jersey and Florida. Grammer was drawn to the works of William Shakespeare and spent two years at ...
Dr. Henry "Hank" McCoy (Beast): I honestly agonized over this one, and no one could possibly play Beast better than Kelsey did. With makeup and modern CGI, an older man can play an agile physical role, and with Beast's size & acrobatic skills, there isn't a physically prepared actor on Earth who could do the role better. Plus, that voice!
Actress | Gone Girl
Born on January 27, 1979 in London, England, actress Rosamund Mary Elizabeth Pike is the only child of a classical violinist mother, Caroline (Friend), and an opera singer father, Julian Pike. Due to her parents' work, she spent her early childhood traveling around Europe. Pike attended Badminton ...
Emma Grace Frost (White Queen): While January Jones is a beautiful woman, her acting skills... lacked. Rosamund Pike shined in 'Gone Girl' and played a great action co-star in 'Wrath of the Titans.' She'd play great as the villain or hero version of Emma Frost.
10. Luke Benward
Actor | How to Eat Fried Worms
Actor Luke Benward will next star in the independent war drama, "Field of Lost Shoes."
Benward was born in Franklin, Tennessee, to Kenda Benward (née Wilkerson), an occasional actress, and Aaron Benward, a country music singer in the duo Blue County. His grandfather, Jeoffrey Benward, is a ...
Warren Kenneth Worthington III (Angel): I don't know why, but I always saw Angel as being more kid-like than Bobby or even Jubilee. I'd go with a distinctively younger Warren on this one, and I liked Luke Benward in 'Ravenswood.' Angel has to have some sort of innocence, and a 19-year old could probably grow with the character over 3 or 4 movies.
11. Minka Kelly
Actress | (500) Days of Summer
Minka Kelly was born in Los Angeles, California and she is the only child of former Aerosmith guitarist, Rick Dufay, and Maureen Kelly, an exotic dancer and single mother, who often moved with her daughter to different communities before settling in Albuquerque, New Mexico, by the time Minka was in...
Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock (Psylocke): There are tons of beautiful British actresses out there, but something about Minka Kelly as Psylocke just seems right.
12. Chris Galya
Actor | Jessie
Bobby Drake (Iceman): Bobby Drake, a student at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, has to be believable as a young teen. Chris Galya has great comedic timing, and could pull this role off well.
13. Laura Marano
Actress | The Perfect Date
Laura Marano started acting in the theatre when she was five years old. She has done numerous plays at the Agoura Children's Theatre, and continued her acting in many national commercials.
She is now starring in the new Disney Channel pilot, Austin & Ally (2011), where she is playing the title ...
Katherine Anne "Kitty" Pryde (Shadowcat): Laura Marano comes across as a really sweet and capable young woman, and just seems to fit the character of Kitty Pryde. Her size and look also has something that fits.
14. Joe Manganiello
Joe Manganiello is an American actor. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Susan (Brachanow) and Charles John Manganiello, and has a younger brother, Nicholas. His father is of Italian descent and his mother has German/Austrian/Croatian and Armenian ancestry. Joe was raised in Mount Lebanon ...
Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin (Colossus): Okay, so he's not Russian. But who cares? It's Joe Manganiello! I don't ever need to comment any further.
15. Brenda Song
Actress | The Social Network
Brenda Song was born in Carmichael, California. Her father is Hmong and her mother is Thai-American. Brenda, her parents, and her younger brothers Timmy and Nathan now live in a suburb of Los Angeles.
Brenda was named an All-American Scholar in ninth grade and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
Jubilation Lee (Jubilee): I thought Brenda Song was great in 'Scandal' (starring Kerry Washington, my choice for Storm) and 'The Social Netowrk,' and might be a little too old to play a high school kid. But I like her anyway, and with such a young-looking face, she might be able to pull young teenager off.
16. David Kross
Actor | The Reader
David Kross was born on July 4, 1990 in Bargteheide, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany next to Hamburg. He attended Eckhorst High School in Bargteheide till 2007. In this period, he first appears in the German movie Help, I'm a Boy! (2002). He also receives his first leading role in the movie Tough Enough...
Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler): No one can do a German accent better than a German actor, and Kross has great acting chops as evidenced in 'The Reader.' Just like the Beat role, Nightcrawler would largely be CGI, but an authentic German accent is a must!
17. Matt Bomer
Actor | The Normal Heart
Matthew Staton Bomer was born in Webster Groves, Greater St. Louis, Missouri, to Elizabeth Macy (Staton) and John O'Neill Bomer IV, a Dallas Cowboys draft pick. Matt was raised in Spring, Texas, and educated at Klein High School, near Houston. After school, he attended Carnegie Mellon University in...
Jean-Paul Beaubier (Northstar): It's immensely important for the LGBT community to have one of our own playing an LGBT character. Northstar is not a major X-Men team member, but definitely could play a great supporting role, and Matt Bomer would be perfect as Jean-Paul.
Actor | Courage Under Fire
Lou Diamond Phillips was born on February 17, 1962 in Subic Bay Naval Base, Olongapo City, Zambales, Philippines as Lou Diamond Upchurch. He is an actor and director, known for Courage Under Fire (1996), The Big Hit (1998) and La Bamba (1987). He has been married to Yvonne Boismier Phillips since ...
Forge: Having an older, experienced X-Men team member who isn't the main character (or Beast) can lend a lot to a story. Plus, Forge's brilliant technological skills could probably come in handy during a franchise...
Actor | The Imitation Game
Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch was born and raised in London, England. His parents, Wanda Ventham and Timothy Carlton (born Timothy Carlton Congdon Cumberbatch), are both actors. He is a grandson of submarine commander Henry Carlton Cumberbatch, and a great-grandson of diplomat Henry Arnold ...
Nathaniel Essex (Mr. Sinister): If you've seen his work, you KNOW no one else exists on Earth who could play a better Mr. Sinister.
20. Ralph Fiennes
Actor | The Grand Budapest Hotel
Actor Ralph Nathaniel Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes was born on December 22, 1962 in Suffolk, England, to Jennifer Anne Mary Alleyne (Lash), a novelist, and Mark Fiennes, a photographer. He is the eldest of six children. Four of his siblings are also in the arts: Martha Fiennes, a director; Magnus ...
Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto): I know, it's hard to replace Sir Ian after his brilliant performances, but no one could doubt the gravitas of Ralph Fiennes. I could see him bringing depth and longevity to the character of Magneto, and would love to see where he can take the character.
Actress | Dexter
Yvonne Jaqueline Strzechowski was born and raised in Australia. Her parents were Polish immigrants. She attended the Santa Sabina College for her high school education. She then went on to study Performance at the University of Western Sydney's School of Contemporary Arts, graduating in 2003. ...
Raven Darkhölme (Mystique): The quintessential badass killer, Mystique needs a skilled actress to play through the blue makeup and yellow eyes. Yvonne Strahovski was fun in 'Chuck' and twisted in 'Dexter," proving that her acting chops are up to snuff.
22. Liam Hemsworth
Actor | The Hunger Games
Liam Hemsworth was born on January 13, 1990, in Melbourne, Australia, and is the younger brother of actors Chris Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth. He is the son of Leonie (van Os), a teacher of English, and Craig Hemsworth, a social-services counselor. He is of Dutch (from his immigrant maternal ...
Victor Creed (Sabretooth): In many ways, Sabretooth resembles his archenemy Wolverine: both are feral, furious fighters with adamantium bonded skeletons, healing powers, longevity, and sketchy memories. Liam Hemsworth would make an excellent villain, and could shatter a lot of misconceptions about the character AND the actor.
23. Nathan Jones
Actor | Mad Max: Fury Road
Nathan Jones is an Australian actor, power-lifting champion, strongman, and former WWE professional wrestler. He rose upon the world strongman scene in 1995, and showed magnitude to become perhaps the top competitor in the world. At 6' 11" and 330 lbs. of muscle & mayhem, the giant Australian known...
Cain Marko (Juggernaut): Special effects can only take you so far. Sometimes you just need a giant muscle-man to fill the boots of a character like Juggernaut. There are few actors in Hollywood (or elsewhere) who could pull off the role like Nathan Jones.
24. Alfred Enoch
Alfred Lewis Enoch was born December 2, 1988 in Westminster, London, England, the son of English actor William Russell (William Russell Enoch) and Brazilian doctor Etheline Margareth Lewis. He is an actor, known for his role as Dean Thomas in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) (2001), ...
Ram-Ram: One of Magneto's Acolytes, Rem-Ram has the power to enter and influence people's dreams. A very little-known mutant, Alfred Enoch could bring this character to life.
