1. Grégory Fitoussi

Actor | G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Grégory Fitoussi was born on August 13, 1976 in Paris, France. He is an actor, known for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009), Hostile (2017) and World War Z (2013).

Discovered him through Mr Selfridge (2013) and have since also watched him in Engrenages (2005-2012). Handsome and an excellent actor.

2. George Clooney

Actor | The Ides of March

George Timothy Clooney was born on May 6, 1961, in Lexington, Kentucky, to Nina Bruce (née Warren), a former beauty pageant queen, and Nick Clooney, a former anchorman and television host (who was also the brother of singer Rosemary Clooney). He has Irish, English, and German ancestry. Clooney ...

This man has it all. From actor to producer ... a true talent. Add to that lots of charm. Can do both comedy and drama. Liked him in perhaps lesser known films such as Leatherheads (2008) and The Descendants (2011).

3. Matt Damon

Actor | Good Will Hunting

Matthew Paige Damon was born on October 8, 1970, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Kent Damon, a stockbroker, realtor and tax preparer, and Nancy Carlsson-Paige, an early childhood education professor at Lesley University. Matt has an older brother, Kyle, a sculptor. His father was of English and ...

Matt Damon's break-through came with Good Will Hunting (1997), co-starring Robin Williams, et. al., which is one of my favorite movies to date. Also excellent as agent Bourne and in the Ocean-movies.

4. Leonardo DiCaprio

Actor | Inception

Few actors in the world have had a career quite as diverse as Leonardo DiCaprio's. DiCaprio has gone from relatively humble beginnings, as a supporting cast member of the sitcom Growing Pains (1985) and low budget horror movies, such as Critters 3 (1991), to a major teenage heartthrob in the 1990s,...

Say what you will about his love-life, on screen he almost never disappoints. Very good in Inception (2010) and Blood Diamond (2006). Incredible as Howard Hughes in The Aviator (2004). Titanic (1997) is by now a classic.

5. Tom Cruise

Actor | Top Gun

In 1976, if you had told fourteen-year-old Franciscan seminary student Thomas Cruise Mapother IV that one day in the not too distant future he would be Tom Cruise, one of the top 100 movie stars of all time, he would have probably grinned and told you that his ambition was to join the priesthood. ...

Leaving his private life alone, you have to acknowledge his performances on-screen. From Top Gun (1986) to Mission Impossible (1996-) he has delivered on an rather consistent level. Valkyria (2008), as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, and Collateral (2004) are personal favorites that stand out.

6. Dan Stevens

Actor | Downton Abbey

Dan Stevens was born at Croydon in Surrey on 10th October 1982. His parents are teachers. He was educated at Tonbridge School and trained in acting at the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. He studied English Literature at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Whilst he was a Cambridge undergraduate, ...

Discovered him through Downton Abbey (2010 - 2015), but have also watched him as Edward Ferrars in Sense and Sensibility (2008). Lovely personality; humble, down to earth and shines on screen. Wonderful charisma.

7. Ralph Fiennes

Actor | The Constant Gardener

Actor Ralph Nathaniel Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes was born on December 22, 1962 in Suffolk, England, to Jennifer Anne Mary Alleyne (Lash), a novelist, and Mark Fiennes, a photographer. He is the eldest of six children. Four of his siblings are also in the arts: Martha Fiennes, a director; Magnus ...

Well what can I say? This man has intensity and such presence that you can feel that he puts his entire soul into his performance. Excellent in The Constant Gardener (2005) opposite the lovely Rachel Weisz. Also loved him in Sunshine (1999) and Schindler's List (1993).

8. Colin Firth

Actor | A Single Man

Colin Andrew Firth was born into an academic family in Grayshott, Hampshire, England. His mother, Shirley Jean (Rolles), was a comparative religion lecturer at the Open University, and his father, David Norman Lewis Firth, lectured on history at Winchester University College (formerly King Alfred's...

Colin Firth is ... well, Colin Firth. Quiet English charm. Unforgettable, of course, as Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice (1995) opposite Jennifer Ehle. The King's Speech (2010) and Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) are other high points.

9. Matthew Goode

Actor | Stoker

Matthew William Goode (born 3 April 1978) is an English actor. His films include Chasing Liberty (2004), Match Point (2005), Imagine Me and You (2006), Brideshead Revisited (2008), Watchmen (2009), A Single Man (2009), Leap Year (2010), Stoker (2013) and The Imitation Game (2014). Goode also ...

First opened my eyes to him in Match Point (2005). He maybe isn't your conventional actor (?) but always manages to maintain interest. Last saw him in Death Comes to Pemberley (2013) and Dancing on the Edge (2013), in which he delivered rather good acting. I liked it!

10. Henry Cavill

Actor | Man of Steel

Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill was born on the Bailiwick of Jersey, a British Crown dependency in the Channel Islands. His mother, Marianne (Dalgliesh), a housewife, was also born on Jersey, and is of Irish, Scottish and English ancestry. Henry's father, Colin Richard Cavill, a stockbroker, is of ...

No diva, that's for sure. His humble personality is one of the things that make you like him even more. Henry has grown consistently better since he first appeared in I Capture the Castle (2003) and The Count of Monte Cristo (2002). Tristan and Isolde (2006) and The Tudors (2007-2010) were good, but his greatest role to date must be in Man of Steel (2013). Edit: Really enjoyed The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015).

11. Hugh Dancy

Actor | Hannibal

Talented British actor Hugh Dancy is one of the UK's most noted young talents.

Hugh Michael Horace Dancy was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, to Sarah Ann (Birley), who works in academic publishing, and Jonathan Peter Dancy, a philosophy professor and writer. He has a brother, Jack (b...

Maybe also one of the quiet ones. Has the capability of showing much through small gestures, especially with his eyes. Captivating to watch. Loved his acting in Daniel Deronda (2002) with, among others, Romola Garai. Also good in Madame Bovary (2000). Always worth watching.

12. Ewan McGregor

Actor | Moulin Rouge!

Ewan Gordon McGregor was born on March 31, 1971 in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland, to Carol Diane (Lawson) and James Charles McGregor, both teachers. His uncle is actor Denis Lawson. He was raised in Crieff. At age 16, he left Morrison Academy to join the Perth Repertory Theatre. His parents ...

Scotland's finest. Subtle, finely nuanced performances. Never boring, always present in the moment. Really liked him in The Ghost Writer (2010) with Pierce Brosnan. Also very good in Moulin Rouge! (2001).

13. Pierce Brosnan

Actor | Mamma Mia!

Pierce Brendan Brosnan was born in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland, to May (Smith), a nurse, and Thomas Brosnan, a carpenter. He lived in Navan, County Meath, until he moved to England, UK, at an early age (thus explaining his ability to play men from both backgrounds convincingly). His father left...

He was funny and charming in Remington Steele (1982-1987), contriving and conniving in The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) and dead serious as James Bond. Maybe at his best in dramas with just the right touch of comedy.

14. Rupert Graves

Actor | Sherlock

Britain's Rupert Graves made his professional stage debut in 1983 in The Killing of Mr. Toad and went on to co-star with Harvey Fierstein in the London production of Torch Song Trilogy. By the mid-80s he was a presence in quality films and TV, including Merchant Ivory films Room With A View where ...

This man has an ability to completely transform himself. From The Forsyte Saga (2002-2003) to The White Queen (2013) as a young man to old, he is never the same. What I've seen from him has been very impressive. Edit: Plays a real pig in Garrow's Law (2009), but admittedly does so rather well.

15. David McCallum

Actor | The Great Escape

Since David McCallum's father, David McCallum Sr., was first violinist for the London Philharmonic Orchestra and his mother, Dorothy Dorman, was a cellist, it's not surprising that David was originally headed for a career in music, playing oboe. He studied briefly at the Royal Academy of Music. He ...

I actually discovered David McCallum thanks to Henry Cavill. When I saw that a remake of the 1960's hit show The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was in the works, I decided to look up the original. And I'm glad I did! McCallum is an excellent actor, he never ever puts out a bad performance. (And he has done a lot!) Three Bites of the Apple (1967) was really amusing and I loved him in the series Kidnapped (1978). Famous also for The Invisible Man (1975-1976) and Sapphire and Steel (1979-1982). Now starring in CBS's hit show NCIS (2003-).

16. Peppino Mazzotta

Actor | Anime nere

Peppino Mazzotta was born on May 20, 1971 in Domanico, Calabria, Italy. He is an actor, known for Black Souls (2014), La velocità della luce (2007) and We Believed (2010).

Okay, so maybe I've only seen him in Il commisario Montalbano (1999-), but I like him so much I must add him to this list. (Watching more is a little difficult; I don't understand much Italian and availability is limited.) He is an extremely engaged and seriously committed actor, with lots of screen presence. Him being in a scene alone makes it worth watching it. Superb!

17. Jeremy Northam

Actor | Gosford Park

Jeremy Philip Northam was born in Cambridge, England to parents John and Rachel, both university professors. John Northam is best known for his translations of Henrik Ibsen. The family moved to Bristol, in 1972, where Jeremy attended Bristol Grammar School. Jeremy graduated from Bedford College, ...

Liked him very well in almost everything I've seen. Possession (2002) was especially good. Charming in Gosford Park (2001) and very striking in The Winslow Boy (1999). Wonderful performance in Emma (1996) with Gwyneth Paltrow. Glorious 39 (2009) was so-so, as I don't like him creepy. Strong screen presence.

18. Jonny Lee Miller

Actor | Æon Flux

Jonny (sometimes credited as Johnny) Lee Miller was born on November 15, 1972, in Kingston, England, UK. He is the son of actors Anna Lee and Alan Miller and the grandson of actor Bernard Lee. After appearing in many high school plays at his selective state grammar school, Jonny dropped out at 17 ...

Jonny Lee Miller ... The reason I put him on this list is based solely on his acting in the TV-series based upon Jane Austen's novels. I really, really liked him both in Emma (2009) with Romola Garai (another favorite of mine) and Mansfield Park (1999) with Frances O'Connor. Both these are my favorite adaptations of the two novels.

Edit: Have now also watched him in Elementary (2012-), which only makes me like him even more! :)

19. Anthony Andrews

Actor | The King's Speech

Anthony Andrews made his West End theater debut at the Apollo Theatre as one of twenty young schoolboys in Alan Bennett's "Forty Years On" with John Gielgud. He began his career at the Chichester Festival Theatre in the UK. His theater credits include spells with the New Shakespeare Company - "...

The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982)! See it!!

20. Matthias Schoenaerts

Actor | De rouille et d'os

Matthias Schoenaerts was born on December 8, 1977 in Antwerp, Belgium. His mother, Dominique Wiche, was a costume designer, translator, and French teacher, and his father was actor Julien Schoenaerts. He made his film debut at the age of 13 alongside his father in the Belgian film Daens (1992), ...

Mattias ticks all the boxes for what I look for in an actor. Gently and quietly expresses a great range of emotions. I really enjoyed him in Far From the Madding Crowd (2015) with Carey Mulligan and also in Suite Française (2014). Check him out. :)

21. Lee Williams

Actor | No Night Is Too Long

Lee Williams was born on April 3, 1974 in Bangor, Wales, UK. He is an actor, known for No Night Is Too Long (2002), What to Expect When You're Expecting (2012) and The Forsyte Saga (2002).

Lee Williams caught my eye in The Forsythe Saga (2003). He also appears in Miss Marie LLoyd (2007) alongside Richard Armitage. Hope to see more of him in other, hopefully leading, roles.

22. Aneurin Barnard

Actor | Dunkirk

Aneurin Barnard was born on May 8, 1987 in Ogwr, Mid Glamorgan, Wales, UK. He is an actor, known for Dunkirk (2017), The Goldfinch (2019) and Cilla (2014). He has been married to Lucy Faulks since 2017. They have one child.

I first spotted Aneurin in The White Queen (2013), where he plays Richard III. He got my attention from the first because of that indefinable quality he has of drawing you in while you watch. I can't quite put my finger on it; but he certainly has a special magnetism about him. Have since also watched him in, among others, Cilla (2014), We'll Take Manhattan (2012) and of course, the latest TV series, War & Peace (2016).

23. Richard Armitage

Actor | The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Richard Crispin Armitage was born and raised in Leicester, England, to Margaret (Hendey), a secretary, and John Armitage, an engineer. He attended Pattison College in Binley Road, Coventry, where he discovered his love for acting. He took part in many theatre productions all over the UK, from ...
