Video Games That I Have Played (Ranked)

by ErnestofAus | created - 11 Jun 2016 | updated - 24 Aug 2016 | Public

These ratings are based on how much I enjoyed the game rather than what I think is the best made game.

I would consider a rating of 7 to be an average game, while less than 6 is generally a bad game. I had a lot of fun with the games rated higher than 8 and I would consider the games rated higher than 9 to be among my favourite games of all time.

I have not completed every game that I have played but have not included games that I only played for a few minutes (Other than the terribly awful games at the end of the list)

Games not on IMDB: Firepower - Commodore Amiga (My rating: 9.2/10) SWIV - Commodore Amiga (My rating: 9.0/10) Tyrion - DOS (My rating: 9.1/10) Highway Hunter - DOS (My rating: 8.8/10) Jeanne De Arc - PSP (My rating: 9.1/10) Amped 1&2 - Xbox (My rating: 9.1/10) Men of War - Windows PC (My rating: 9.0/10) Jewel Chase - Windows PC/GBC (My rating 8.5/10) Werewolf vs. Comanche - Windows PC (My rating: 8.2/10)

1. Conker's Bad Fur Day (2001 Video Game)

M | Action, Adventure, Comedy

The vulgar adventures and exploits of a squirrel with a hangover, just trying to get back home while being forced to save the world.

Director: Chris Seavor | Stars: Chris Seavor, Louise Ridgeway, Chris Marlow

Votes: 1,177

My rating: 10/10 Platform: Nintendo 64 Genre: 3D Platformer Developer: Rare

About: An already beautifully made 3D platforming experience completed with a hilarious story-line about a drunk squirrel, Conker, trying to find his way home. There is some half decent multiplayer when the story is complete.

Positives: The gameplay is solid and the humor and personality that went into the game hasn't been matched by any other game that I have played. There are funny parodies of movies and cultural references as well as jokes about video game conventions. The puzzles are thoughtful and challenging.

Negatives: Minor Clunkiness in controls that makes some missions frustrating, Single Player Mode could be longer.

Completed full play through in 2015.

2. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (2000 Video Game)

E | Action, Adventure, Family

After becoming the hero of Hyrule, Link stumbles into the enchanted land of Termina, where a falling moon will crush the world in three days.

Directors: Eiji Aonuma, Yoshiaki Koizumi | Stars: Fujiko Takimoto, Sachi Matsumoto, Kôji Tobe, Mari Maruta

Votes: 2,836

My rating: 9.9/10 Title: Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Platform: Nintendo 64 / 3DS Genre: 3rd Person Action-Adventure Developer: Nintendo

About: Unique spin on the Legend of Zelda formula, where Link is stuck replaying the same three days over and over again. By making new discoveries each time, he can eventually save the world from destruction.

Positives: This is possibly the most original game that I have played. The "Groundhog Day" theme is very unique in a video game and in my opinion, Majora's Mask executes it perfectly. To add difficultly, I try to avoid looking at Link's notes and remember events that are due to happen at a particular place and time.

Negatives:

Played through 3DS version in 2016.

3. Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings (1999 Video Game)

T | Action, Adventure, History

The Age of Kings is set in the Middle Ages and contains thirteen playable civilizations.

Director: Paul DeNigris | Stars: Gary Moody, Spencer Prokop, Ric Spiegel, Cliff Stephens

Votes: 2,967

My rating: 9.8/10 Platform: Windows PC Genre: Isometric Real-Time Strategy Developer: Ensemble Studios

About: Medieval era themed multiplayer RTS.

Positives: In my opinion, this is the greatest RTS of all time for multiplayer, which still holds up today. The races are well balanced and their are options to benefit many different play styles, making you less predictable to your opponent.

Negatives: Trebuchets are over-powered and limit the strategy of both teams when one decides to build their siege around them. The computer AI is predictable and poor. It is easy to exploit, even on the hardest difficultly.

Started playing in early 2000s. Still play today on occasion.

4. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords (2004 Video Game)

T | Action, Adventure, Drama

You play an exiled and depowered Jedi Knight who has returned to the Republic and must restore both your powers and the devastated Jedi Order to challenge the Sith.

Stars: Sara Kestelman, Nicky Katt, Roger Guenveur Smith, Kelly Hu

Votes: 4,605

My rating: 9.8/10 Platform: Mircosoft Xbox Genre: Third Person Role-Playing Game Developer: Obsidian Entertainment / Bioware

About: Star Wars themed role-playing game set in a universe many years prior to the setting of the movies.

Positives: The first role-playing game of this kind that I played. The game was so deep and enthralling that I was instantly hooked. The amount of options you had, not only in your combat choices but in your dialogue which effectively alters your path towards good or evil in the game, the choices you make, can have permanent effects on the game's outcome.

Negatives: Some frame-rate drops.

Completed two play-throughs in mid 2000s.

5. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003 Video Game)

T | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

A republic soldier, training to become a Jedi Knight, is given the task of halting the conquest of Darth Malak by discovering the location of a weapon known as the Star Forge.

Director: Casey Hudson | Stars: Jennifer Hale, Raphael Sbarge, Rafael Ferrer, John Cygan

Votes: 7,481

My rating: 9.8/10 Platform: Mircosoft Xbox Genre: Third Person Role-Playing Game Developer: Bioware

About: Star Wars themed role-playing game set in a universe many years prior to the setting of the movies.

Positives: It took me a while, but I played through the original KOTOR nearly a decade after playing the second one. The game is equally as satisfying as the second and I would highly recommend both games.

Negatives: Some frame-rate drops.

Completed play through in 2015.

6. Banjo-Kazooie (1998 Video Game)

E | Adventure, Fantasy

The witch Gruntilda has captured Banjo's beloved sister, intending to leech the girl's youth and beauty through black magic and mad science. Banjo and Kazooie set out across nine worlds to get her back.

Director: Gregg Mayles | Stars: Chris Sutherland, Grant Kirkhope, Eveline Fischer, Lee Ray

Votes: 1,451

My rating: 9.7/10 Platform: Nintendo 64 / 3DS Genre: 3D Platformer Developer: Rare

About: Funny and brilliant 3D puzzle platformer where you control Banjoe and Kazooie as they infiltrate the witch's castle and search for Banjoe's sister.

Positives: With the abundance of Super Mario 64 clones and rip-offs, Rare got it right with Banjoe Kazooie by improving on the formula. The level design and puzzles in this game are amazing and the game proves to be fairly difficult. To top it off, Rare added their bizarre personality and humor into the game.

Negatives:

Started playing early 2000s. Played through in 2015.

7. Super Mario 64 (1996 Video Game)

K-A | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

When the evil Bowser steals 120 power stars and traps Princess Peach within the walls of her own castle, it's up to Mario to save her once again.

Director: Shigeru Miyamoto | Stars: Charles Martinet, Leslie Swan

Votes: 4,795

My rating: 9.7/10 Platform: Nintendo 64 Genre: 3D Platformer Developer: Nintendo

About: The great original 3D puzzle platforming experience where you control Mario as he attempts to rescue Peach from Bowser.

Positives: It's still hard to believe the quality of the 3D platforming and puzzles in Super Mario 64 despite it being one of the first games of this kind.

Negatives: Mario exits each world automatically when he fetches a star, rather than giving the player the option to play on to retrieve the other stars.

Played through in 2010.

8. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (2005 Video Game)

M | Action, Adventure, Crime

Proving you can't keep a good agent down, Sam Fisher returns for this third undercover outing, which takes him deep inside North Korea on an information warfare mission.

Director: Mario Galardo | Stars: Michael Ironside, Claudia Besso, Don Jordan, Thor Bishopric

Votes: 2,545

My rating: 9.7/10 Platform: Mircosoft Xbox Genre: Third Person Stealth Developer: Ubisoft

About: The ultimate stealth game has you control Sam Fisher in an alternate mid 2000s era as he investigates war conspiracies in Korea. (Single player campaign and co-op campaign as well as versus mode)

Positives: The third entry perfects the game-play established in the first two games and also adds a brilliant co-op mode.

Negatives:

Completed play through in 2011. Completed multiplayer play through in 2015.

9. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998 Video Game)

E | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Votes: 8,087

My rating: 9.7/10 Platform: Nintendo 64 / 3DS Genre: 3rd person Action-Adventure (Single player story mode only) Developer: Nintendo

Positives:

Negatives:

Played through original version in 2011.

10. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (2006 Video Game)

T | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

After being freed by the Emperor of Tamriel, the hero must prevent the gates of Oblivion from spreading throughout the Empire.

Director: Todd Howard | Stars: Sean Bean, Lynda Carter, Terence Stamp, Patrick Stewart

Votes: 11,186

My rating: 9.7/10 Platform: Xbox 360 Genre: 3rd Person Action Role-Playing (Single player story mode only) Developer: Bethesda

About: Fantasy themed open world role playing at its best.

Positives: There were so many good quests in this game that I barely bothered with the main story. The quality and detail that went into the game was amazing. You can even pick up and read the books from the shelves. Although the combat is not perfect, it is quite fun after you level up a skill such as archery.

Negatives: The game is essential broken due to a poorly designed game engine. When over 100 hrs in, the Xbox version required more frequent load screens when exploring and became frustrating and near unplayable at a point. As the game is very long and time consuming and you may find more enjoyment in playing through the newer Skyrim or the Mass Effect or Witcher series of games.

Played through in 2008. Played through again in 2010.

11. Crack Down (1989 Video Game)

Not Rated | Action, Sci-Fi

Labyrinthine top-down scroller in which you must lead two heroes to diffuse bombs and destroy evil robots.

Votes: 16

My rating: 9.7/10 Platform: Commodore Amiga Genre: Top-Down Run & Gun (Single & co-op arcade story mode) Developer: Sega

About: Arcade co-op style shooter where your objective is to plant bombs in the designated locations in maze-like levels, then get the heck out of there.

Positives: This is a fast and fun experience that is best enjoyed with a friend, as you can flank the enemies and cover more ground. The Amiga version is the best and fastest version and has you constantly on your toes. The cover system was very unique at the time.

Negatives: The console version is the only one currently available, which is much slower and does not properly implement the cover system. Some of the bridge crossing type events, where you have to time your approach are not well done and the game would be better without these.

Started playing in mid to late 1990s. Still play today but haven't managed to complete all the missions successfully.

12. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (2005 Video Game)

T | Action, Adventure, Family

Not all is well in the land of Tellius, as the nation Daein invades Crimea. Only Ike, and his group of mercenaries can stop Daein from spreading its terror.

Director: Masayuki Horikawa | Stars: Michihiko Hagi, Atsuko Enomoto, Juri Takita, Takashi Nagasako

Votes: 158

My rating: 9.7/10 Title: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (2005) Platform: Nintendo Gamecube Genre: Tactical Role-Playing Game (Single Player story mode only) Developer: Intelligent Systems / Nintendo

About: Control Ike and his mercenaries as they fight the mad king Ashnard for their lands and for peace. This is a very difficult tactical experience which caused me to rage quit probably more than any other similar game. You will develop your characters skills as you play each mission as well as recruiting more to the cause. Death is permanent for your characters, which can make the game very difficult to complete if you haven't planned carefully.

Positives: The difficultly, the tactics and the level design and the length of the game all make this thoroughly enjoyable. You can turn off the combat animations as the become annoying after a while.

Negatives: I'm personally not a fan of some of the Japanese anime themes. The laguz are annoying to use and to verse in the game as they require a consumable stone to be effective for only a short number of turns. The game can become impossibly if you do not grind with the right characters experience.

Completed full play through in 2015.

13. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (2007 Video Game)

E10+ | Action, Adventure, Family

The sequel to Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. This game takes place in Tellus, 3 years after the Mad Kings War took place. A rebel group called "Dawn Brigades" is fighting battles and war is brewing between the Nations.

Director: Taeko Kaneda | Stars: Jason Adkins, Ed Bednarzik, Janet Day, Mik Kuhlman

Votes: 57

My rating: 9.6/10 Platform: Nintendo Wii Genre: Tactical Role-Playing Game (Single Player story mode only) Developer: Intelligent Systems / Nintendo

About: Great sequel to Path of Radiance.

Positives: While not quite as good as its predecessor, the quality tactics, difficulty and level design are retained in the sequel. The game is very long and enjoyable throughout.

Negatives: I wasn't a fan of the requirement to play as two separate armies. The laguz and the grinding problems were not improved upon. The game does not improve and of the flaws of the previous entry.

Completed full play through in 2015.

14. Future Cop: L.A.P.D. (1998 Video Game)

T | Action

Take control of a transforming mech in Los Angeles and clean up the crime that is running rampant throughout. Use powerful weapons to destroy anything in your way, remember...serve, protect and survive.

Stars: Shannon Finn, Roger Jackson, Jarion Monroe

Votes: 63

My rating: 9.6/10 Platform: Sony Playstation Genre: Third-Person Shooter Developer: Electronic Arts

About: This is a fast action game that is the last in EA's "Strike Series." This entry is much different to its predecessors and adds the ability to play co-op through the campaign as well as a unique versus mode.

Positives: The game-play is very fun and the best that I have played in the genre. It is Arcade-like while adding a bit more depth. The way the game is presented is great as it seems to have a "cool factor" not seen in many games. The co-op is very good as you have to work closely with each other as you share health with your team-mate. The versus mode is unique and original and provides a different game-play experience.

Negatives: There are no check-points during the long missions, meaning that you will be sent back to the start, even if you die fighting the main boss at the end of a level. This is not so bad if you are aware of it, but during your first play-through, this is frustrating to discover if you weren't expecting it.

15. Psychonauts (2005 Video Game)

T | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Raz, a young psychic, must battle forces greater than he if he is to save his new-found friends at the Whispering Rock psychic camp, where children are having their brains mysteriously stolen.

Director: Tim Schafer | Stars: Richard Steven Horvitz, Nikki Rapp, Stephen Stanton, Alexis Lezin

Votes: 1,296

My rating: 9.6/10 Platform: Microsoft Xbox Genre: 3D Platformer Developer: Double Fine

About: Unique 3D platformer where you control Razputin who wields a bunch physic powers, and you explore both the real world and in worlds inside people's minds.

Positives: This is probably the most unique experience in terms of platforming game-play. The level design is also very unique and creative and some of the missions are highly memorable. Some of the powers such as levitation allow for platforming game-play not seen in other games.

Negatives: The point of no return and the lack of replay value without restarting the game over really stop this from being the perfect game that it could have been.

Played through in 2015.

16. Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines (1998 Video Game)

T | Action, Adventure, War

Taking place during the second World War, a small hand-picked team of Commandos must carry out dangerous but crucial sabotage missions, using guerilla combat and stealth.

Director: Gonzo Suárez | Stars: Dwight D. Eisenhower, Alfred Jodl, Bernard L. Montgomery, Erwin Rommel

Votes: 385

My rating: 9.6/10 Platform: Windows PC Genre: Isometric Real-Time Tactics Developer: Pyro Studios

About: World-War 2 themed stealth orientated tactical masterpiece.

Positives: This is a brilliant game that requires patience and wit for the most part, then bursts of quick mouse and keyboard mashing. The levels are highly difficult to complete on the first attempt, which is ok as there are quick-save and quick-load hotkeys. You study the enemy patrols and watch their line of sights and their patterns to determine the most efficient way to complete take them out of sneak past them as you complete your objectives. Each commandos have different abilities which can be used to benefit the mission. At the end of the mission, you are graded which leads to promotions and if you played well enough, you will unlock the final mission.

Negatives: Sometimes enemy patrols will not notice a body in their peripheral vision until they have passed it a few times, which may cause you to fail the mission if you used a quick-save assuming that the body wouldn't be noticed. The voice acting can be annoying and sometimes the voices of the commandos gets mixed up. Both the 'select commando' and 'click to move to location' features use the left-click mouse button which can be annoying when you are trying to move two or more commandos into a tight space to hide, and you end up selecting another commando instead of moving the one you have selected.

Started playing in mid to late 2000s. Started playing again in 2016.

17. Thief: The Dark Project (1998 Video Game)

M | Action, Adventure, Crime

Unbeknownst to him, a cynical but witty master-thief Garrett will become a key player in the secret war between the cult of builders and the cult of pagans in a medieval city where certain types of magic and advanced technology exist.

Directors: Daniel Thron, Josh Randall | Stars: Stephen Russell, Joffrey Spaulding, Terri Brosius, Daniel Thron

Votes: 597

My rating 9.6/10 Platform: Windows PC Genre: Third Person Stealth Developer: Looking Glass Studios

About: The original stealth game has you control skilled thief, Garrett, in a fictional medieval era which has some modern technologies as well as magic.

Positives:

Negatives:

Started playing in 2015.

18. Mass Effect 2 (2010 Video Game)

M | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

After being revived from death and having to join a pro-human organization without a choice, Commander Shepard must assemble a team, battle a new threat, and make tough choices in order to save the galaxy from total annihilation once more.

Director: Casey Hudson | Stars: Shohreh Aghdashloo, Maggie Baird, Adam Baldwin, Michael Beattie

Votes: 17,629

My rating: 9.6/10 Platform: Mircosoft Xbox 360 Genre: Thrid Person Action Role-Playing Game Developer: Bioware

About:

Positives: The second entry fixed most of the poor, forced combat implementation from the first game and brings it to a level that would actually be half decent on its own if it were a non-RPG game. The missions are rich and the story is intriguing. The customization of your crew's abilities and weapons allows for many tactical options in combat.

Negatives: The mini-game where you launch probes onto planets and moons to gather resources is very dull and boring and should not have been included as an essential part of the game-play. It becomes a chore.

Completed play through in 2010.

19. XCOM: Enemy Unknown (2012 Video Game)

M | Action, Sci-Fi

Threatened by an unknown enemy, Earth's governments unite to form an elite paramilitary organization, known as XCOM. As the commander of XCOM, you control the global defense team in a battle against a terrifying alien invasion.

Stars: Jon Bailey, John Eric Bentley, Michael Benyaer, Brian Bloom

Votes: 1,310

My rating: 9.5/10 Platform: Windows PC / Xbox 360 Genre: Tactical Role-Playing Game Developer: Firaxis

About: This is a brilliant remake of the original UFO: Enemy Unknown from 1995. The game combines turn-based tactical combat with base building and research.

Positives: The fear of venturing into the unknown is my favourite thing about the X-Com series. It is nerve racking, suspenseful and exciting as you try to flank the enemy that you cannot yet see. The possibility of the permanent death of your squad members adds to the suspense when exploring into the fog.

Negatives: I am not a fan of the base building element of the game personally. It is well executed, but is not near the same level as the tactical combat and it is too time-consuming for my liking. The character customization feels limited and slightly generic to where it should be.

Started playing in 2015.

20. Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield (2003 Video Game)

M | Action, Adventure

The third game in the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six series, Raven Shield once again puts you in control of the elite counter-terrorism team known as Rainbow.

Director: Mark McCoy | Stars: Robin Atkin Downes, Stefan Marks

Votes: 289

My rating 9.5/10 Platform: Windows PC / Xbox (Different version) Genre: Tactical Shooter Developer: Red Storm

About: One of the best first person tactical shooters I have played. I originally played through the Xbox version and have more recently played the PC version as well as the numerous expansions and stand-alone games made for this. I would say that the PC version is the best overall but all are worth playing for different experiences in my opinion.

Negatives:

Started playing in mid 2000s.

21. GoldenEye 007 (1997 Video Game)

23. Cannon Fodder (1993 Video Game)

Action

Cannon Fodder is an action shoot 'em up game.

Director: Jon Hare

Votes: 115

My rating: 9.5/10 Platform: Commodore Amiga Genre: Isometric Real-Time Tactics Developer: Sensible Software

About: Classic isometric view run & gun style game with tactical elements.

Positives: The game is fast and fun and easy to pick up and play for a few minutes at a time without committing. The game is becomes very challenging after mission 6 and completing these missions without losing your initial soldiers (Jools and Jops) is very satisfying.

Negatives: The soldiers don't like passing obstacles and get stuck easily making them vulnerable to enemy grenades and bazookas even though you had clicked to move them. The 'Evil Kenevil' mission phase looks cool but isn't well executed. The throw grenade command should have a separate button on the keyboard, rather than dual clicking the mouse.

Started playing in early to mid 2000s. Still play today but haven't managed to complete all the mission successfully.

24. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (2011 Video Game)
