Doug Liman Talks 'American Made' and 'Edge of Tomorrow 2'6 of 10
Top Gun
"I was inspired by Top Gun in that I wanted to be the anti-Top Gun,” said Liman of his star's most-famous flying film. "I wanted to really lean into the fact that the propeller airplanes that Barry Seal was flying do not have the performance of a fighter jet and are greatly limited.
"But I couldn't point to another movie and say, 'I love that shot they did,' because there's not another film out there where the star happens to be an excellent pilot who's going to be doing all their own stunt flying."
