Cannes Diary - Day 1
For Cannes President, the ever elegant, incredibly bright and amazingly gregarious Thierry Fremaux and the Cannes organizers, the selfie-takers slow down the red carpet, particularly at the top of the stairs. Most importantly, it detracts from the very special nature of the entrance to the Lumiere Theater, which frankly, is one of the cathedrals of film. It would be like seeing Porta-Potties lining the Oscars' Red Carpet (by the way, they're there, for press and crew, just behind the press stands) or the Kennedy Center Honors using Dixie red cups to dispense pre-event champagne. But I've also seen the steps in their natural state. Let's just say they cleanup good.
