Gene Hackman's character Popeye Doyle wore a distinctive pork-pie hat, which we gave to Michael Rapaport's character Bullman in "Public Morals." Additionally, we also staged a Harlem nightclub scene in which Ruben Santiago-Hudson's character Lt. King walks through a crowded nightclub (where three singers perform) to give a nod to a similar moment in The French Connection, where Popeye Doyle meets with Roy Scheider's, Buddy Russo.
