Oscars Spotlight: Best Picture Nominees at the Box Office3 of 8
The Grand Budapest Hotel - $59.1 million
On the day that nominations were announced, The Grand Budapest Hotel was the highest-grossing among the Best Picture candidates with $59.1 million. The movie opened way back in March – incredibly early for a Best Picture nominee – and was a top choice for adult moviegoers in to the Summer season. Ultimately, Budapest topped The Royal Tenenbaums to become writer/director Wes Anderson’s highest-grossing movie ever (through Tenenbaums still leads when adjusted for ticket price inflation).
