The Wizard of Oz
Not many fantasy movies made in 1939 appeal to today's audiences, but The Wizard of Oz has withstood the test of time. The classic film about a girl who travels via tornado to the technicolor dream land of Oz has it all: scary witches, talking scarecrows, and ruby slippers. What it lacks in special effects, it makes up for in classic songs and distinctive characters. The Emerald City, represented by a backdrop and sets on a soundstage, still impresses children. The enduring legacy of Oz is reflected in several more recent Oz-themed projects including 2013's Oz the Great and Powerful and the upcoming TV series "Emerald City".
