Movies That Remind Me of My Parents (now including TV)

by Pantstrovich | created - 12 Sep 2015 | updated - 2 months ago | Public

I'm painting you a pictire. It's not exactly sentimental.

If you or someone you know has been in similar situations, I'd like to recommend some resources:

01. The book "Toxic Parents" by Susan Forward 02. The book "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel Van Der Kolk, MD 03. [link][/link] 04. [link][/link] 05. [link][/link] 06. [link][/link] 07. [link][/link] 08. [link][/link]

Thank you for your kind comments (love and best wishes to you). I don't want to answer from my Facebook account because my parents still stalk me sometimes, online and through harassing my friends and their families. Apparently they didn't like their property getting away.

I disowned them and moved to the farthest country that I could get away from them. Being away from them is obviously better, but I will probably always have severe PTSD no matter how much therapy I have. I also cannot have contact with my younger siblings (who I love dearly), because of all the brainwashing.

There have been a lot of positive changes however.

Hey, let's take the dad from The Shining gone kookoo and pair him up with Carries mom, only make it real life and way worse. Also the kids get no powers to defend themselves with. Great idea, universe!

Well, my parents aren't related as far as I know, but they did come from a small town, so who knows. Probably they only hid the one extra brother from me. Hopefully there is not a basement full of flesh-eating feral boys somewhere. There are a few more adults out there with PTSD though! Nice going, human garbage!

Votes: 20,749

Both parents, although the mother still had more of a maternal instinct than my own. Mine never even tried to leave or act like he didn't have every right to treat us like that, aside from a few instances of, "Stop it! Stop it!" May they both rot.

Edit: I think she may have tried to leave once and he threatened to comit suicide to manipulate her into staying. I was disappointed that he didn't do it.

Votes: 39,084 | Gross: $34.87M

Tracy's father; not Freddy. Freddy's a better parent than mine any day. Too bad this whole movie was stupid. It was a stupid concept, poorly executed.

It's been a long while, but both the grandmother and mother, to some degree. Mostly the grandmother. I was actually given this book as a young teen by a great aunt. I think she was trying to encourage me to run away with my younger siblings. While I appreciate the sentiment, it might have been nice if the adults who knew would have actually done something...

Votes: 168,633 | Gross: $8.55M

Dennis Hopper's character.

Like combine his character, the dad from The Shining when he's at peak crazy and the dad from The Amnityville Horror when he's peak crazy, and you might have an idea of what mine is like.

Not sure if there is a character to compare him to when he's pretending not to be a crazy psychopath, but he wasn't terribly good at it anyway. Probably why he hung out in a small town in Texas so long. Psycho is a way of life there.

I was committed at 14, as punishment for daring to defend myself. I even tried to tell various staff that I was being abused at home, and all they did was look at me as if they'd been told that I would say that, and that it was a lie, and then they'd walk away. Wouldn't even acknowledge that I said that with anything other than that stupid look. They 100% refused to speak to me like a human being. They only ever gave scripted instructions. It was a maddening prison.
