Saddest moments (Spoilers)

I'm almost ashamed to admit that there have been some movies and TV episodes that have tugged on my heartstrings. Some I have cried and there are some I have choked up. I never thought it was possible but it is possible that some scenes can make grown men shed a tear. Just a warning that this list contains spoilers.

1. Empire of the Sun (1987)

The ending when Jamie (Christian Bale) reunites with his parents just broke me. I still think it's a terrific movie.

2. Band of Brothers (2001)

The scene when Easy Company stumbles across an abandoned concentration camp. A very sad scene in which I have fought back tears.

3. Philadelphia (1993)

Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks) passes away and all the mourners gather at Beckett's home to watch Beckett as a child. I cried at the very end when I saw this for the first time.

4. The Simpsons (1989– )

Sibling rivalry between Bart and Lisa ensues when they become the star players of their respective ice hockey teams.

The scene towards the end where Bart and Lisa have flashbacks to the both of them as babies. I am almost ashamed to admit that this particular moment made me cry when I saw that episode for the first time. I don't know if I could watch this scene now some 20 years later.

5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

Seeing Sledge and Snafu stumble across the hut that killed everyone else but a crying baby remains unscathed.

7. Saving Private Ryan (1998)

It's hard to believe but Saving Private Ryan is a movie that can make grown men shed a tear. The scene following D-Day when letters are being sent out notifying families that their loved ones have been killed and the scene when Private Ryan's mother is notified that three of her sons have died in combat.

8. Rocky II (1979)

Rocky struggles in family life after his bout with Apollo Creed, while the embarrassed champ insistently goads him to accept a challenge for a rematch.

This is more of a happy moment rather than sad, but Rocky's final speech after he beats Apollo Creed. And how can anyone forget Rocky's message to his wife Adrian watching the match from home, "Yo Adrian! I did it!" A scene that is capable of making many grown men shed a tear.
