Votes: 658,527 | Gross: $260.00M

Jan 1

Not a bad first film of the year even though I just watched it last year. Some of the dialogue leaves something to be desired but at the same time there are several scenes of strong dialogue with some lines being quite memorable. 8/10

2. Deep Blue Sea (1999)

R | 105 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

54 Metascore

Director: Renny Harlin | Stars: Thomas Jane, Saffron Burrows, Samuel L. Jackson, Jacqueline McKenzie

Votes: 142,440 | Gross: $73.65M

Jan 1

Hadn’t seen this since it came out. I guess they were doing a shark movie day on tv. Very much a Jaws rip off but with a very different setting. Some over the top ridiculous moments, but that does add to the fun. 6/10

3. Transformers (2007)

PG-13 | 144 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

61 Metascore

An ancient struggle between two Cybertronian races, the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons, comes to Earth, with a clue to the ultimate power held by a teenager.

Director: Michael Bay | Stars: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson

Votes: 674,069 | Gross: $319.25M

Jan 1

So many bad Transformers movies came after this one but this one is actually pretty good. Some humour and lots of good action. One of the films that Megan Fox is actually good in. 7/10

4. Guest House (2020)

R | 84 min | Comedy

An newly engaged couple's buys their dream house but it comes with one small catch, a perennial party animal who lives in the guesthouse.

Director: Sam Macaroni | Stars: Pauly Shore, Mike Castle, Aimee Teegarden, Billy Zane

Votes: 2,561

Dec 1

Apparently Paulie Shore is still alive. He hasn’t figured out yet that this industry is no longer for him though. Obnoxiously bad acting. The story was fine for a comedy but it was just made so poorly. 3/10

5. Furious 6 (2013)

PG-13 | 130 min | Action, Crime, Thriller

61 Metascore

Hobbs has Dominic and Brian reassemble their crew to take down a team of mercenaries: Dominic unexpectedly gets sidetracked with facing his presumed deceased girlfriend, Letty.

Director: Justin Lin | Stars: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez

Votes: 416,447 | Gross: $238.68M

Jan 2

Mindless action is not always a bad thing. Some of the action didn’t make any sense though. Hard to believe that this franchise is still alive. 5/10

6. Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020)

PG | 122 min | Family, Fantasy, Musical

69 Metascore

An imaginary world comes to life in a holiday tale of an eccentric toymaker, his adventurous granddaughter, and a magical invention that has the power to change their lives forever.

Director: David E. Talbert | Stars: Forest Whitaker, Keegan-Michael Key, Hugh Bonneville, Anika Noni Rose

Votes: 20,729

Jan 2

First of all, I challenge this being called a Christmas movie. Hardly anything to do with Christmas. A good story, good songs and decent performances. Unfortunately it didn’t really work well together. The songs didn’t suit the movie and the story would have worked better in a more grounded version rather than going with magical things in the old timey setting. 6/10

7. Minari (2020)

PG-13 | 115 min | Drama

89 Metascore

A Korean American family moves to an Arkansas farm in search of its own American dream. Amidst the challenges of new life in the strange and rugged Ozarks, they discover the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home.

Director: Lee Isaac Chung | Stars: Steven Yeun, Han Yeri, Alan Kim, Noel Cho

Votes: 96,696

Jan 2

An unfortunately slow moving film. The emotion of it is strong but loses its effect with the long wait to get going. The grandmother character makes the film something special. 7/10

8. Death to 2020 (2020 TV Special)

TV-MA | 70 min | Comedy

In mockumentary format, characters discuss events of 2020 with a mixture of true information and satire. The overarching topic is the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in the US and UK.

Directors: Al Campbell, Alice Mathias | Stars: Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Grant, Lisa Kudrow, Kumail Nanjiani

Votes: 40,062

Jan 3

Hilarious mockumentary about the events of 2020. Small cast supplemented by plenty of real footage. Some of the real footage is ridiculous enough to play on its own without the need for parody. 8/10

9. Time (I) (2020)

PG-13 | 81 min | Documentary, Biography

91 Metascore

Fox Rich fights for the release of her husband, Rob, who is serving a 60-year sentence in prison.

Director: Garrett Bradley | Stars: Sibil Fox Richardson, Robert G. Richardson, Mahlik Richardson, Remington B. Richardson

Votes: 6,289

Jan 3

For all the great reviews this doc has it was terribly disappointing. It was very nicely shot in the bits made specifically for the doc. The subject matter was really lacking though. The length of sentence given was clearly excessive but it didn’t focus simply on that. The wife kept talking like he didn’t deserve to be there in the same breath she said he committed the crime. And complaining about how she doesn’t get to see him often enough while he is in prison and comparing prison to slavery. If somebody is guilty of a crime then prison not being an easy thing makes sense. Focus on what was wrong in the doc and present evidence of why it was an excessive sentence. None of that was looked at. 4/10

10. Nomadland (2020)

R | 107 min | Drama

87 Metascore

A woman in her sixties, after losing everything in the Great Recession, embarks on a journey through the American West, living as a van-dwelling modern-day nomad.

Director: Chloé Zhao | Stars: Frances McDormand, David Strathairn, Linda May, Gay DeForest

Votes: 183,071

Jan 3

Great performance from McDormand. It’s a good thing too as the movie would be hard to watch without that. She gave it a certain charm that made it worthwhile but it was a very dull ‘story’. 7/10

11. Promising Young Woman (2020)

R | 113 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery

72 Metascore

Nothing in Cassie's life is what it appears to be - she's wickedly smart, tantalizingly cunning, and she's living a secret double life. Now, an unexpected encounter is about to give Cassie a chance to right the wrongs from the past.

Director: Emerald Fennell | Stars: Carey Mulligan, Bo Burnham, Alison Brie, Clancy Brown

Votes: 211,318

Jan 4

Rape revenge film which is much smarter than your average revenge film. The motives at the beginning of the film didn’t had me worried the story was going a very different way. It was a whole roller coaster for the rest of the film that went many unexpected places. 8/10

12. Run (I) (2020)

PG-13 | 90 min | Mystery, Thriller

67 Metascore

Chloe, a teenager who is confined to a wheelchair, is homeschooled by her mother, Diane. Chloe soon becomes suspicious of her mother and begins to suspect that she may be harboring a dark secret.

Director: Aneesh Chaganty | Stars: Sarah Paulson, Kiera Allen, Sara Sohn, Pat Healy

Votes: 95,566

Jan 5

Decent thriller held back somewhat by how similar it is to a different series that told the story better. Taking away the comparison leaves this being a fun ride with some surprising twists. 7/10

13. Magic Camp (2020)

PG | 100 min | Comedy, Family, Fantasy

At the urging of his former mentor and Magic Camp owner Roy Preston, Andy returns as a counselor to the camp of his youth hoping to reignite his career.

Director: Mark Waters | Stars: Adam Devine, Jeffrey Tambor, Gillian Jacobs, Nathaniel Logan McIntyre

Votes: 4,806

Jan 6

This is one of those made for streaming movies that you’d have zero expectations for. Turned out to be a funny and charming family film. Completely predictable by hitting every mark you’d expect from a family film about a sport/competition. That didn’t detract at all from the enjoyment. 7/10

14. Babylon 5 (1993–1998)
Episode: Babylon 5: The Gathering (1993)

Unrated | 89 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

The opening of a crucial space station is put in jeopardy when the commanding officer is accused of the attempted murder of a diplomat.

Director: Richard Compton | Stars: Michael O'Hare, Tamlyn Tomita, Jerry Doyle, Mira Furlan

Votes: 9,798

Jan 7

I don’t understand how anyone can watch this let alone vote it up to the point that it was on the IMDb top 250 at some point. Simultaneously lazy sci-fi and trying too hard even at the most uninteresting parts of the film. Annoyingly weird characters, much like what Star Wars has in the background but forcing them into main character status making the film painful to watch. 2/10

15. Pitch Perfect (2012)

PG-13 | 112 min | Comedy, Music, Romance

66 Metascore

Beca, a freshman at Barden University, is cajoled into joining The Bellas, her school's all-girls singing group. Injecting some much needed energy into their repertoire, The Bellas take on their male rivals in a campus competition.

Director: Jason Moore | Stars: Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp

Votes: 330,363 | Gross: $65.00M

Jan 7

Tons of fun every time I watch it. Good music and super charming and funny. 9/10

16. I'm Your Woman (2020)

R | 120 min | Crime, Drama

63 Metascore

In this 1970s set crime drama, a woman is forced to go on the run after her husband betrays his partners, sending her and her baby on a dangerous journey.

Director: Julia Hart | Stars: Rachel Brosnahan, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Arinzé Kene, Jameson Charles

Votes: 9,934

Jan 8

An uneven story that fails to deliver the drama it attempts to portray. The mystery of what happens to begin the chain of events hangs over the entire film but doesn’t really matter at all. It’s not a mystery you care to be solved. This takes away any suspense you should be feeling. Worse than that is the huge amount of the runtime spent listening to a crying baby. Thankfully the character of Cal makes the film worthwhile. 6/10

17. Drishyam (2015)

Not Rated | 163 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery

Desperate measures are taken by a man who tries to save his family from the dark side of the law, after they commit an unexpected crime.

Director: Nishikant Kamat | Stars: Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, Tabu, Rajat Kapoor

Votes: 94,114 | Gross: $0.74M

Jan 8

Clever crime drama with an unfortunately poor production. Cheesy score and average acting at best. Trended towards a much lower score for the first half of the film but really picks up as it goes on. 7/10

18. Andaz Apna Apna (1994)

Not Rated | 160 min | Action, Comedy, Romance

Two slackers competing for the affections of an heiress inadvertently become her protectors from an evil criminal.

Director: Rajkumar Santoshi | Stars: Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor

Votes: 55,249

Jan 8

I don’t understand how this made it onto an IMDb top 250 list. It’s ridiculous and over the top in the worst way. Uncomfortably bad right from the start. Nearly 3 hours was awful to sit through. Only thing that moves up up from a 1 is the songs. 2/10

19. Mallrats (1995)

R | 94 min | Comedy, Romance

41 Metascore

Both dumped by their girlfriends, two best friends seek refuge in the local mall.

Director: Kevin Smith | Stars: Shannen Doherty, Jeremy London, Jason Lee, Claire Forlani

Votes: 128,767 | Gross: $2.12M

Jan 9

Really wanted to watch something light that I’d seen before and this is the first thing that fit the bill scrolling through Netflix. Fast and smart humour works well even though there are elements of a bad comedy mixed in. 9/10

20. Holmes & Watson (2018)

PG-13 | 90 min | Comedy, Crime, Mystery

24 Metascore

A humorous take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic mysteries featuring Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson.

Director: Etan Cohen | Stars: Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Ralph Fiennes, Rebecca Hall

Votes: 39,352 | Gross: $30.57M

Jan 9

Expectations were very low for this. It did have several good laughs and I generally enjoy both of the leads. The problem is that it was so poorly constructed. Trying to make jokes about how poorly Sherlock deduces and then moments later having him do the usual Sherlock intricate deduction. 6/10

21. The Haunted Mansion (2003)

PG | 88 min | Comedy, Family, Fantasy

34 Metascore

A realtor and his wife and children are summoned to a mansion, which they soon discover is haunted, and while they attempt to escape, he learns an important lesson about the family he has neglected.

Director: Rob Minkoff | Stars: Eddie Murphy, Marsha Thomason, Jennifer Tilly, Terence Stamp

Votes: 56,851 | Gross: $75.85M

Jan 9

Not one of the greatest films based on a Disney ride. It’s fun spotting the references to the ride and as you’d expect, Murphy adds some humour to it. Not a great overall story and inconsistent in its humour. Some of the horror imagery was darker than you’d expect for a kids movie. 5/10

22. The Message (1976)

PG | 177 min | Biography, Drama, History

This epic historical drama chronicles the life and times of Prophet Muhammad and serves as an introduction to early Islamic history.

Director: Moustapha Akkad | Stars: Anthony Quinn, Irene Papas, Michael Ansara, Johnny Sekka

Votes: 50,768

Jan 9

Does nothing to stand out compared with many other desert and bible epics. The story in this one was not deep enough to hold interest for the duration, especially while purposely avoiding the main character being shown/heard. 4/10

23. Sanjuro (1962)

Not Rated | 96 min | Action, Drama, Thriller

A crafty samurai helps a young man and his fellow clansmen trying to save his uncle, who has been framed and imprisoned by a corrupt superintendent.

Director: Akira Kurosawa | Stars: Toshirô Mifune, Tatsuya Nakadai, Keiju Kobayashi, Yûnosuke Itô

Votes: 41,060

Jan 9

Nice style like most Kurosawa films. The story was reminiscent of other of his films and didn’t do much for me. Feels a bit too repetitive with his films. 5/10

24. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)

PG | 152 min | Adventure, Family, Fantasy

65 Metascore

An orphaned boy enrolls in a school of wizardry, where he learns the truth about himself, his family and the terrible evil that haunts the magical world.

Director: Chris Columbus | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Richard Harris

Votes: 854,999 | Gross: $317.58M

Jan 9

Sawyer and I decided to rewatch this now after reading the book together. They did a great job adapting it to the screen. Several changes that I hadn’t noticed before since there’d been such a big gap between reading and watching. Most of the changes make sense. 8/10

25. Wolfwalkers (2020)

PG | 103 min | Animation, Action, Adventure

87 Metascore

A young apprentice hunter and her father journey to Ireland to help wipe out the last wolf pack. But everything changes when she befriends a free-spirited girl from a mysterious tribe rumored to transform into wolves by night.

Directors: Tomm Moore, Ross Stewart | Stars: Honor Kneafsey, Eva Whittaker, Sean Bean, Simon McBurney

Votes: 38,557

Jan 10

The intentionally low detail animation is off putting. Some stylistic elements of the animation somewhat make up for it but it would have been better with different animation. The story is creative and emotionally impactful. Reminds me a bit of Kubo combined with Ghibli. 8/10

26. Summerland (I) (2020)

PG | 99 min | Drama, Romance, War

56 Metascore

During World War II, an Englishwoman opens her heart to an evacuee after initially resolving to be rid of him in this moving journey of womanhood, love and friendship.

Director: Jessica Swale | Stars: Gemma Arterton, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Penelope Wilton, Tom Courtenay

Votes: 9,247

Jan 10

Heartwarming wartime story hits all the marks it should to pluck the heartstrings. The contrivance of the negative way the townspeople look at Arterton could have been left out or at least toned down, but aside from that it works quite well. 8/10

27. We Can Be Heroes (II) (2020)

PG | 100 min | Action, Comedy, Drama

51 Metascore

When alien invaders capture the Earth's superheroes, their kids must learn to work together to save their parents and the planet.

Director: Robert Rodriguez | Stars: YaYa Gosselin, Pedro Pascal, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Lyon Daniels

Votes: 17,111

Jan 10

I didn’t realize this was a sequel to shark boy and lava girl when we decided to put this on. Thankfully not quite as bad as that film but sufficiently terrible. Way over the top with the bad effects and silly characters. Robert Rodriguez should stick to movies for adults. 2/10

28. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2011)

PG | 99 min | Comedy, Family

51 Metascore

Back in middle school after summer vacation, Greg Heffley and his older brother Rodrick must deal with their parents' misguided attempts to have them bond.

Director: David Bowers | Stars: Zachary Gordon, Devon Bostick, Robert Capron, Rachael Harris

Votes: 36,503 | Gross: $52.70M

Jan 11

Always surprised that I enjoy these each time. Lots of laughs throughout with a good cast for what it is. 7/10

29. Pieces of a Woman (2020)

R | 126 min | Drama

66 Metascore

Director: Kornél Mundruczó | Stars: Vanessa Kirby, Shia LaBeouf, Ellen Burstyn, Iliza Shlesinger

Votes: 56,189

Jan 11

Entirely depressing film. Great performances from Kirby, Lebouf and Burstyn. A little slow moving with very little happiness to redeem the depressing story. 7/10

30. Little Women (1994)

PG | 115 min | Drama, Family, Romance

87 Metascore

The March sisters live and grow in post-Civil War America.

Director: Gillian Armstrong | Stars: Susan Sarandon, Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes

Votes: 63,510 | Gross: $50.08M

Jan 12

Not generally a fan of period films, but this one felt more accessible than most. Perhaps due in part to the well known cast. All were well cast except for Eric Stolz who felt really out of place. At just under 2 hours it managed to avoid feeling tired even though I’ve seen other versions of the same film before. 7/10

31. The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988)

R | 171 min | Drama, Romance

73 Metascore

Director: Philip Kaufman | Stars: Daniel Day-Lewis, Juliette Binoche, Lena Olin, Derek de Lint

Votes: 38,605 | Gross: $10.01M

Jan 12

Strong performances from the 3 leads made this worthwhile despite the slow pacing of the film. More a movie about sex than love though certainly some relationships explored in detail. 7/10

32. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days (2012)

PG | 94 min | Comedy, Family

54 Metascore

School's out. Summer vacation is on. However, Greg may not have the best summer vacation ever. What could go wrong?

Director: David Bowers | Stars: Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron, Devon Bostick, Steve Zahn

Votes: 29,767 | Gross: $49.01M

Jan 14

All 3 of these movies stayed pretty consistent in quality and humour (not counting the 4th one since it was completely different). 7/10

33. One Night in Miami... (2020)

R | 114 min | Drama

83 Metascore

A fictional account of one incredible night where icons Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown gathered discussing their roles in the Civil Rights Movement and cultural upheaval of the 60s.

Director: Regina King | Stars: Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge, Leslie Odom Jr.

Votes: 34,248

Jan 15

Unfortunately slow moving drama that progresses very little as it goes. Just conversations between the 4 characters with little else to spice it up. Some interesting topics that would have been better if limited to 90 mins. 6/10

34. Until the End of the World (1991)

R | 158 min | Action, Drama, Sci-Fi

63 Metascore

In 1999, Claire Tourneur's life is forever changed after she survives a car crash. She rescues Sam and travels the world with him. Writer Eugene Fitzpatrick follows and writes their story as a method of recording dreams is being developed.

Director: Wim Wenders | Stars: William Hurt, Solveig Dommartin, Pietro Falcone, Enzo Turrin

Votes: 11,303 | Gross: $0.75M

Jan 16

‘Futuristic’ sci fi taking place in 1999. The tech that is unimpressive compared with today’s reality did take away from the film in a way. Interesting the the message about tech in the end is still relevant today. Since I watched the directors cut version of the film it ranks as the longest film I’ve ever seen at 4:47 (45 mins longer than the previous longest film I’d seen). Somehow it managed to consistently hold my interest despite the huge runtime. The music helped it along (which the director claims is one of the main reasons for this long cut), but it was the characters that really carried it. I’m surprised the lead didn’t become a known name as she was so good in this. 7/10

35. Butchers (2020)

92 min | Horror, Thriller

A family of sadistic butchers has dug into the back country and, from the deep freeze of winter to the dog days of summer, anyone who crosses their path is dead meat.

Director: Adrian Langley | Stars: Simon Phillips, Michael Swatton, Julie Mainville, Anne-Carolyne Binette

Votes: 2,805

Jan 16

Run of the mill horror film. Typical setup and nothing fresh as it went along. Generally that would be ok as the formula works but it wasn’t even very well done. Basically no gore for most of the film. 5/10

36. The Parent Trap (1998)

PG | 128 min | Adventure, Comedy, Drama

Director: Nancy Meyers | Stars: Lindsay Lohan, Dennis Quaid, Natasha Richardson, Elaine Hendrix

Votes: 154,586 | Gross: $66.31M

Jan 16

Always enjoy this one. Lohan had such potential to have a big career. Now I’m interested in watching some of the other versions of it. 7/10

37. Ghajini (2008)

Not Rated | 186 min | Action, Drama, Mystery

A short-term memory loss patient goes on a killing spree in order to avenge the death of his ladylove.

Director: A.R. Murugadoss | Stars: Aamir Khan, Asin Thottumkal, Jiah Khan, Aamir Naik

Votes: 66,737 | Gross: $2.43M

Jan 17

Bollywood remake of Memento that loses every detail of the original that made it good. Terrible as a memento remake but decent as a stand-alone film. The style used in this was far from creative for a romcom/thriller but it worked anyway. They still squeezed in some song and dance numbers which I enjoyed. 7/10

38. Get Smart (2008)

PG-13 | 110 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

54 Metascore

Maxwell Smart, a highly intellectual but bumbling spy working for the CONTROL agency, is tasked with preventing a terrorist attack from rival spy agency KAOS.

Director: Peter Segal | Stars: Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Alan Arkin, Dwayne Johnson

Votes: 228,466 | Gross: $130.32M

Still funnny after seeing it so many times. Decent spy film story and action with loads of parody to go along with it. 7/10

R | 71 min | Drama, Mystery, Thriller

An actress's nightmare about killing her ex-boyfriend somehow becomes a reality.

Director: James Toback | Stars: Sienna Miller, Alec Baldwin, Charles Grodin, Colleen Camp

Votes: 2,084

Jan 17

I’m surprised to see this with such a low score. It was unconventional and maybe in a way that would turn some off but it wasnt really bad in any way. I appreciated the unconventional nature of it and the runtime was short enough to allow for this style of storytelling. 6/10

40. Vikram Vedha (2017)

Not Rated | 147 min | Action, Crime, Drama

Vikram, a no-nonsense police officer, accompanied by Simon, his partner, is on the hunt to capture Vedha, a smuggler and a murderer. Vedha tries to change Vikram's life, which leads to a conflict.

Directors: Gayatri, Pushkar, Gowtham Selvaraj | Stars: Madhavan, Vijay Sethupathi, Shraddha Srinath, Kathir

Votes: 50,446

Jan 18

Gritty cop drama/thriller. Much more of a Hollywood style but still manages to fit in some of the usual Bollywood elements. Good story with multiple layers. If only they could have avoided some of the goofiness that comes with the Bollywood style then it might have been able to break through in North America. 7/10

41. Pitch Perfect 2 (2015)

Votes: 95,534

Jan 20

Slow moving drama that is carried by such strong performances from the 2 leads. Small amount of the typical Greengrass shaky cam style was barely noticeable. 8/10

66 Metascore

Votes: 188,080 | Gross: $127.20M

Steinfeld helps to make this a surprisingly charming Transformers film. Better characters all around compared with the other transformers films. Still managed some good action and humour as well. 8/10

44. A Rainy Day in New York (2019)

PG-13 | 92 min | Comedy, Romance

38 Metascore

A young couple arrives in New York for a weekend where they are met with bad weather and a series of adventures.

Director: Woody Allen | Stars: Timothée Chalamet, Elle Fanning, Liev Schreiber, Suzanne Smith

Votes: 51,425

Jan 24

All the charm and wit you would expect from a Woody Allen film. Chalamet does a great job as the Woody Allen character. The dialogue is my fav part like most Allen films. If there was any criticism it’s how similar it is to many other Allen films, but for me that is a huge compliment rather than a criticism. I’d gladly watch 1000 more with the exact formula. 8/10

45. New York Minute (I) (2004)

Olsen twins before everything turned bad for them with all the drugs and whatnot. Pretty unoriginal premise but it’s a lot of fun. The epitome of guilty pleasure. 7/10

Underwhelming horror film with some good ideas. A better presentation might have made it worthwhile. A good premise wasted. 5/10

A bad remake of the parent trap. The Olsen twins are annoying as kids. There were many inappropriate comments for a kids movies including a few references to killing. The premise was changed enough that it stopped making sense and there isn’t even an explanation of why they look like twins. 4/10

Still plenty funny but it does play out differently today. The humour of somebody crossdressing doesn’t really work the same way nowadays. Still has a lot of heart to it though. Robin Williams is always great. 7/10

Not as good as the lego doc I’d seen a few years ago. Much of the same footage was used but this one had a lack of focus despite being specifically focused on the Leto House. It ends after the house is completed yet gives no broad tour of the house. Only a look at a couple specific details of the house that portray no scale of the whole project. 4/10

Possibly the most Hollywood styles of the Bollywood films I’ve seen. Typical sports film that hits all the beats you’d expect for a sports story. Longer than it needed to be like most Bollywood films though it’s pacing was decent to hold the audience’s interest. I missed the dancing but at least there was still some good music to enjoy. 8/10

The buzz this is getting for its acting is definitely deserved. Glenn Close disappeared into the role to the point that you forgot it was her. Amy Adams was also quite good in her role. Nothing else special about the film outside of those performances but it is a nice, if unoriginal, story. 8/10

A full film of just 2 characters and then basically arguing the entire film. Could have been really bad but it was stylistic enough to keep my interest. Some of the racial commentary was refreshing but then got to be too much. Many time it was ironic the way the racial commentary was done. That’s good if it was intentional but I’m not really sure it was intentional. 7/10

Similar to Twister but some good updates to modernize it and make it more exciting. The fire tornado was especially cool. The cow flying reference to Twister was not exactly subtle but welcome nonetheless. Might have been better without the filming for the school time capsule angle. Some extra humour with the amateur tornado hunters. 7/10

Horror-comedy that comes up way light on the horror side but it makes up for it with some fun hip hop heavy comedy. The get duked song part was lots of fun. Reminiscent of many other films with the dopey small town cops and the bizarre set of circumstances coming together to wrap things up. 7/10

A truly terrible script. Completely ridiculous and unrealistic characters reacting against what little character had been built for them with no motivations to match what they were doing. Some of the appeal of this doc is likely lost on somebody not interested in politics but still works in the same way that many other child competition docs do. There was so much covered in the film that it resulted in the focus being lost. Time spent on the talent competition, for example, was only a distraction. 7/10

Cute ‘talking’ animal children’s film. It’s about as silly as you’d expect but the only part that that crossed the line were the jokes about the blind kid. They send the wrong message. 7/10

It’s always nice when a film manages to feel completely new and fresh. Nothing really special about the style, though the story was unique. Mads is as good as ever. Aside from some concerns about the message it sends about drinking, a great film and sure to be nominated for best foreign film. 8/10

Original story line that went some unexpected places. No good guys to root for but that adds to the enjoyment rather than detracting from it. Rosamund Pike was great and Peter Dinklage may have put in his worst performance yet with the big fake beard. 8/10

Surprisingly similar to The Trial of the Chicago 7 and nearly as good. Compelling the whole way through. Strong cast of mostly unknowns. I could have done with out some of the handheld camerawork but the style was strong otherwise. 9/10

Some of the investigative journalism early in the film was fun to watch. While it is interesting that the event at Collective got the ball rolling on discovering several issues in the hospital system. Watching that unravel was less interesting unfortunately. 7/10
