This is not one of my absolute favorite years of the 80s in film, but it undoubtedly has some classics!

Just about my favorite Stanley Kubrick movie. He does the war movies brilliantly, and this is one of the best in the entire genre. Great look into the lives of several Vietnam Vets as they move from boot camp to full-fledged battle.

2. Spaceballs (1987)

The most commercially successful Mel Brooks film, and one of his best. It's such a great Star Wars spoof, that I like it amore than most Star Wars movies. Hilarious film with a star-studded cast: John Candy, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Dick Van Patten, among many others.

3. The Untouchables (1987)

It's Eliot Ness vs. Al Capone during the alcohol prohibition circa 1920s. Great crime/drama about the quest to take Al Capone down. Great roles from Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Robert De Niro, among others.

Easily one of my favorite Mel Gibson roles. He and Danny Glover have some great comedic timing together, as seen from the many sequels. The first is the best. Great comedy/crime/cop movie.

I had a huge crush on Elisabeth Shue back in the day, and I'd have to say this is the best movie I've seen her in. Very good adventure/comedy. Maia Brewton, Keith Coogan, and Anthony Rapp all play great parts.

Excellent sci-fi/action/thriller/war film. One of Arnold Schwarzenegger's is the big star here, but Carl Weathers, and Bill Duke (among others) were also fantastic.

Great World War II action/drama (and partly biopic) from Steven Spielberg. We get to see an amazing performance from a 12-year old Christian Bale. He help up the lead role beautifully. John Malkovich was also great among a very good supporting cast. It's a long movie, but worthy it's time.

Funny and touching story about a lovable Sasquatch who fits right into the suburban Henderson family. The best "Bigfoot" film around. John Lithgow and Melinda Dillon are excellent, as well as Kevin Peter Hall (as Harry).

Fascinating story about the Air Force sacrificing the lives of chimps for top secret experiments. The main chimp (Virgil) captures the hearts Jimmy (Matthew Broderick) and Teri (Helen Hunt), and they work to put an end to the program and set the chimps free. Very good movie that still holds up great today.

Hilarious movie and likely my favorite film starring Nicolas Cage. I didn't even know the Coen Brothers directed and wrote the movie...which is no surprise since it's so well done.

Goldie Hawn is a rich pretentious heiress who gets amnesia after an accident, and Kurt Russel tricks her into being his wife, and a mother to his 3 misfit kids. As things unravel, Russel and Hawn have great chemistry. Good comedy/romance.

Clay (Andrew McCarthy) find his former best friend (Robert Downey Jr.) has a serious drug problem when he return to L.A. for the holidays from college. Scary accurate considering Robert Downey Jr. has had such a problem with drugs since. Great story and acting throughout.

Totally underrated Disney TV family comedy about an android teenager named Chip. This is the first in the trilogy, and quite possibly the best. Jay Underwood, Alan Thicke, and Robyn Lively are all great.

Often cited as one of the best John Hughes films. Steve Martin and John Candy have some funny chemistry together. The film is well done, but it's not quite a favorite for how tense some of the interactions are between the two.
