My Pick for a Modern Warfare Movie & Black Ops TV Series

by diego_cuevs21 | created - 12 Nov 2019 | updated - 1 day ago | Public

Call Of Duty along with the Modern Warfare series are some of my favorite memories growing up. And I would love to see the Modern Warfare series be brought to the big screen. I know it was announced last year that Sicario: Day of the Soldado, director Stefano Sollima is already set to direct two Call of Duty movies. But we have no idea if it is taking the Modern Warfare story line or even some characters. The movie does seem to be in good hands but I just wish we knew more about this movie. You have a great jump start to a franchise waiting. But we will have to wait and find out.

1. Gareth Evans

Writer | Serbuan maut

Welsh born writer/director, in 2003 directed a short film "Samurai Monogatari" telling the tale of a Samurai waiting to be executed. The short was in Japanese language and starred students from Tokyo who were studying at Cardiff University at the time.

In 2003 he also graduated with an MA in ...

Director and Writer- 1st Choice.

Seriously no cap, no bs, no if’s, he is the man for the job. This man and his crew are insanely talented because if you get him you have to get his whole production crew on this project immediately. From The Raid movies which are phenomenal to 2020’s best show Gangs of London which if you haven’t seen episode 5 that he directed then you are missing out. Why haven’t more action directors taken his approach of shooting stylistic fight scenes. Yes we have the John Wicks and Extraction but to me when Gareth is shooting his action the camera moves like a dance which is something that is missing with a lot of action films. Directors need to utilize the way a camera can move and put it in different directions and angles so the audience feels more immerse with the film. Aside from that I feel like this guy would kill it with this story and how the new Modern Warfare takes a huge part in London well that fits right in with him.

2. Vince Gilligan

Producer | The X Files

George Vincent Gilligan Jr. (born February 10, 1967) is an American writer, producer, and director. He is known for his television work, specifically as creator, head writer, executive producer, and director of Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul. He was a writer and producer for The ...

Director & Writer-

He made not only one of the best shows on tv of all time. He also is very cinematic in his approach to stories about men on missions with a certain end. He knows how to handle something quite like this and he knows action and drama which would be great to see spread over three movies.

3. Stefano Sollima

Director | Sicario: Day of the Soldado

Stefano Sollima was born on May 4, 1966 in Rome, Lazio, Italy. He is a director and writer, known for Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018), Gomorrah (2014) and Suburra (2015).

Sure he is a good choice and I like Sicario: Day of the Soldado which had some great action sequences plus I have only seen on of his films. So he could do one hell of a job with the film.

4. Taylor Sheridan

Writer | Hell or High Water

Taylor Sheridan is an American actor, screenwriter, and director. He is best known for wrote the screenplay for Sicario (2015), and Hell or High Water (2016), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

He also starred in FX television series Sons of Anarchy, and ...

Writer or maybe even director-

The dude is awesome. And he wrote both Sicarios, Hell or High Water, and the creator of Yellowstone. Which for writing he definitely has his touch in big screen spectacle action set pieces and story points that are spectacular to see great actors play out.

5. Bill Dubuque

Writer | The Accountant

Bill Dubuque is a writer and producer, known for The Accountant (2016), Ozark (2017) and A Family Man (2016).

Ozark is great and this guy would be awesome as a writer. The Accountant is a tightly made script that doesn't pull it punches and has awesome action sequences.

6. Michael Bay

Producer | Armageddon

A graduate of Wesleyan University, Michael Bay spent his 20s working on advertisements and music videos. His first projects after film school were in the music video business. He created music videos for Tina Turner, Meat Loaf, Lionel Richie, Wilson Phillips, Donny Osmond and Divinyls. His work won...

Why not? The Modern Warfare games are just playable versions of his films anyway.

7. Peter Mullan

Actor | The Magdalene Sisters

He was interested in directing films at the age of 19 and he made several shorts. As he wasn't admitted to the National Film School, he decided to dedicate himself to acting, and made his debut in the theatre in 1988 before moving to cinema and television. Fame came with the parts he played in such...

Captain Price- Much older Price.

Damn it. He might be a little too old. But he would be an amazing Captain Price. He got the look and the voice down so seemly. He has so good on Ozark and that grizzled old man fits great with him. It would be really hard because Price is in much of the action through out the series so we might have to go with someone else.

8. Richard Dormer

Actor | Fortitude

Richard Dormer was born on November 11, 1969 in Portadown, County Armagh, Northern Ireland. He is an actor, known for Fortitude (2015).

Captain Price- Could both be the 2007 and 2019 version of the character.

Now he might be the one to fill in the big shoes as Captain Price. Again if Peter Mullan is too old then this is your guy. You know what f- it I love this choice so much that I will champion him to be Captain Price. He is great on GOT and hopefully he gets more work.

9. Matthias Schoenaerts

Actor | De rouille et d'os

Matthias Schoenaerts was born on December 8, 1977 in Antwerp, Belgium. His mother, Dominique Wiche, was a costume designer, translator and French teacher, and his father was actor Julien Schoenaerts. He made his film debut at the age of 13, alongside his father in the Belgian film Daens (1992), ...

John 'Soap' Mactavish- 1st Choice if they want someone older.

I love this guy. Seriously he truly is an actor that is awesome in everything he is in. So I know he would kill it as Soap. If you need any convincing then watch Bullhead, Rust & Bone, The Drop, The Mustang, and even Disorder where he plays an ex military vet. he would be awesome.

10. Jack O'Connell

Actor | Unbroken

Jack O'Connell was born in Alvaston, Derby, England, to Alison J. (Gutteridge) and John Patrick O'Connell. His mother is English, and worked at British Midland, and his father was Irish (from County Kerry), and worked on the railways for Bombardier. Jack went to Saint Benedict Catholic School, and ...

John 'Soap' Mactavish- 2nd Choice if they want someone younger.

I have many options for Soap because he is without a doubt one of my favorite video game character so again we don't know what the new updated version we will see of him but I would imagine the 2007 Modern warfare would more likely suit an actor like Jack. He would be an excellent addition to the team.

11. Sope Dirisu

Actor | Gangs of London

Sope Dirisu is an actor, known for Gangs of London (2020), Humans (2015) and The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016).

Kyle “Gaz” Garrick- 2019 Version. 1st Choice.

I mean obviously the two gentlemen below are incredible choices and would make a great Gaz. But let’s some new talent in here. This guy is phenomenal not just with the action scenes which he proved with Gangs of London which was created by Gareth Evans, but also he had 8 episodes where he still showed some amazing acting chops. From that show I knew who all the white actors were for the most part but he stood out the most and that is really saying something. Hoping he gets a big break in something.

12. Chiwetel Ejiofor

Actor | 12 Years a Slave

English actor, writer and director Chiwetel Ejiofor is renowned for his portrayal of Solomon Northup in 12 Years a Slave (2013), for which he received Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations, along with the BAFTA Award for Best Actor. He is also known for playing Okwe in Dirty Pretty Things...

Gaz- Modern Warfare if they want an older version.

In the recent Modern Warfare game Gaz has been changed into African Britain character who has been his name into Kyle Garrick. But like the rest he might be too old and in the original game he is a white character so I will also provide some other options.

13. Daniel Kaluuya

Actor | Get Out

Daniel Kaluuya is an English actor and writer. He is best known for Get Out (2017) and Black Panther (2018).

He also starred in the Black Mirror episode "Fifteen Million Merits".

For his work in Get Out he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor.

Kaluuya also had minor roles in Johnny ...

Gaz- or Kyle Garrick in the Modern Warfare (2019) version.

It is very interesting because by having a younger version of the cast will have the Modern Warfare (2019) so I think by that standards he would be an awesome addition.

14. Colin Farrell

Actor | The Lobster

Colin Farrell is one of Ireland's biggest stars in Hollywood and abroad. His film presence has been filled with memorable roles that range from an inwardly tortured hit man, to an adventurous explorer, a determined-but-failing writer, and the greatest military leader in history.

Farrell was born on ...

Gaz- White version

So yes Gaz in the 2007 Modern Warfare is white. So I kinda want him and Price to be around the same age and build a history together. But still be at the same level. Of course again it all depends where they want the characters if they adapt the 2007 or 2019 version Colin would be a great Gaz if paired with the right price.

15. Charlie Hunnam

Actor | Sons of Anarchy

Charles Matthew Hunnam was born on April 10, 1980 in Newcastle, England, to Jane (Bell), a business owner, and William Hunnam, a scrap metal merchant. At 18 years of age, he made a guest appearance in popular TV series Byker Grove (1989).

He gained fame in Britain thanks to his television role as ...

Roach- If paired with Matthias Schoenaerts Soap.

We all know and love the level Cliffhanger. So imagine them doing a sequel with the opening with these two actors. Because it would make sense that a LT. has to younger than the Captain. So he would be a good fit.

16. Daniel Radcliffe

Actor | Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born on July 23, 1989 in Fulham, London, England, to casting agent Marcia Gresham (née Jacobson) and literary agent Alan Radcliffe. His father is from a Northern Irish Protestant background, while his mother was born in South Africa, to a Jewish family (from Lithuania, ...

Roach- If paired with Jack O'Connell's Soap.

This guy is a great actor and I believe any time he is going to have a second coming for his career. And this role will skyrocket him because he is awesome is the movies he has been in. To Horns and Imperium he is amazing.

17. Oliver Jackson-Cohen

Actor | Faster

Oliver Jackson-Cohen was born on October 24, 1986 in Westminster, London, England as Oliver Mansour Jackson-Cohen. He is an actor, known for Faster (2010), The Invisible Man (2020) and Going the Distance (2010).

Alex- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) Version.

I am going all out with all characters we can see put into a Call of Duty film. So with the 2019 version of this story the one of the main characters you play is Alex. Which we don't know much about but I do know a great actor to play him. And it is this guy. His small role in The Invisible Man was really small, but him being The Haunting of Hill House this guy kills it.

18. Claudia Doumit

Actress | The Boys

Claudia Doumit is an actress and producer, known for The Boys (2019), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) and Where'd You Go, Bernadette (2019).

Farah Karim- 1st Choice Modern Warfare 2019.

It is very difficult because of you are going to bring the voice and motion capture of one actor to the live action whether it be from a tv show or video game then it seems useless to not bring the whole cast. But Claudia Doumit is so good as Farah and she has been at least trying to get more work as a live action actor. Which could be a benefit over her other costars. Along with The Mandorline second season bringing to life some of the voice actors from clone wars into live action. With the exception of Asoka. Plus Claudia looks like she fits the part because she is the one who brought this character and gave it her all. Along with it is sad to say that not a lot of middle eastern actors have been giving a spotlight like she has in a military themed video game of all places.

19. Geraldine Viswanathan

Actress | Blockers

Geraldine Viswanathan was born on June 20, 1995 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia as Geraldine Indira Viswanathan. She is an actress, known for Blockers (2018), Emo the Musical (2016) and Janet King (2014).

Farah Karim- 2nd Choice Modern Warfare 2019.

But if they they want to go with someone who has been in movies before than I would high recommend Geraldine Viswanathan or hell let them both be in it. Because Farah is leading a group of women to fight for their country so she would fit perfectly in that part. I am just so impressed by her acting that I want to she her more in movies.

20. Daniel Craig

Actor | Casino Royale

One of the British theatre's most famous faces, Daniel Craig, who waited tables as a struggling teenage actor with the National Youth Theatre, has gone on to star as James Bond in Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die (2021).

He was born ...

Simon “Ghost” Riley- 1st Choice.

I was so torn on who could possibly play a character who has a mask on his face for a majority of the movie. I mean hell for these types of roles, Bane, Judge Dredd, and Mando it seems only a selective few are willing to do it. And hell for me it seems you can go pretty big with the name but at the same time I would be curious to see if at least this idea could convince a big name like Daniel who has been in the spotlight for a long time would do a role like this. Or at least lend his voice. I mean he was in The Last Jedi as a stormtrooper. Plus I think it would be cool for him to do it.

21. Troy Baker

Actor | The Last of Us

Troy Baker was born on April 1, 1976 in Dallas, Texas, USA as Troy Edward Baker. He is known for his work on The Last of Us (2013), BioShock Infinite (2013) and Batman: Arkham Knight (2015). He has been married to Pamela Walworth since October 13, 2012. They have one child. He was previously ...

Simon “Ghost” Riley- 2nd Choice.

Again I was using my Hollywood brain and that is for a role like this with a character whose face is covered up you just have to get a movie level actor to do it. Because that is how it has been kinda done before. They have a big time movie actor be the voice of a mask character and have a stunt man actually be in the suit doing all the work. But maybe just maybe they can get someone like Troy to be the iconic bad ass Ghost. And maybe he can pull off a British accent but even looking at the dude I know he has gotten the physicality of a solider down to a tee.

22. Billy Bob Thornton

Actor | Sling Blade

Billy Bob Thornton was born on August 4, 1955 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Virginia Roberta (Faulkner), a psychic, and William Raymond (Billy Ray) Thornton, an educator, high school history teacher, and basketball coach (now deceased). He is the older brother of James Donald (Jimmy Don) (born in ...

General Sheperd- 2nd Choice.

It might be a too obvious choice to play Shepard but I do have a feeling he could be a good Shepherd. Because we have seen Billy Bob Thornton play villains before but he mention before that he doesn’t find flat out villains interesting. So my thing is make Shepherd a sympathetic character who we can see the reason why Shepherd goes down the route he goes down. To make us understand why he is the way he is.

23. David Harbour

Actor | Hellboy

David Harbour is an American actor who has performed in film, television, and the theater.

He is known for his role as CIA agent Gregg Beam in Quantum of Solace (2008), Shep Campbell in Revolutionary Road (2008), Van Hauser in End of Watch (2012) and Dexter Tolliver in Suicide Squad (2016). He also ...

General Shepherd- 1st Choice.

Might be a little too young to play a general but I would to see him play this character. Plus spoiler I just don't want it to be obvious with the casting someone who you don't trust because the illusion of Shepherd is in his mind doing the right thing after what happens to him. So I feel Like David could be able to pull that off.

24. Dylan O'Brien

Actor | Teen Wolf

Dylan O'Brien was born in New York City, to Lisa Rhodes, a former actress who also ran an acting school, and Patrick B. O'Brien, a camera operator. His father is of Irish descent and his mother is of English, Spanish, and Italian ancestry. Dylan grew up in Springfield Township, Union County, New ...

Alex Mason- 1st Choice.

What do the numbers mean Mason. I love Sam Worthington as Alex Mason to me that might actually be some of his best work. He might even be capable to play him in a tv show adaptation of the black ops series but again if you bring him back I believe you have to bring everyone back but I think I found a pretty good Alex Mason. I have been a huge fan of Dylan O’Brian even before Maze Runner but he has continuously proven he his capable of being a great leading man. He even looks the part. He would be a great Alex Mason.

25. Jonathan Groff

Actor | Frozen

Jonathan Groff was born on March 26, 1985 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA as Jonathan Drew Groff. He is an actor, known for Frozen (2013), Hamilton (2020) and Mindhunter (2017).

Alex Mason- 2nd Choice.

If I said once I said it a thousand times, watch Mindhunter. This guy would a perfect choice for Alex Mason. It would also be so different from the character he plays on that show anyway. It sucks that this guy can’t more work and the one role I think he actually has a shot for is another tv show. I mean this guy had two shows both canceled way too soon. So he deserves another shot but the biggest problem is we have to find a suitable Woods.

26. Steven Yeun

Actor | Okja

Steven Yeun was born in Seoul, South Korea, to June and Je Yeun. His family first immigrated to Canada and stayed there for one year, and then moved to the U.S. He has a brother named Brian. He began acting while at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, MI, where he studied Psychology as a major (BS in ...

Alex Mason- 3rd Choice.

In the video game Black Ops no where does it say Alex Mason is white I mean yeah we can clearly see he his white and he was born in Alaska so that is the only evidence we have. But seriously why can’t we have Steven Yeun who is coming off probably the number one contender for best picture of 2020, Minari. Well it can’t be that hard but it would be sick to see him. But again who can play Woods.

27. Antony Starr

Actor | Outrageous Fortune

Antony Starr was born on October 25, 1975 in New Zealand. He is an actor, known for Outrageous Fortune (2005), The Boys (2019) and Wish You Were Here (2012).

Alex Mason- 4th Choice.

I put this as a joke as if The Boys were cast as Black Ops characters. So it’s actually becoming pretty accurate. Plus I highly doubt this guy wouldn’t kill this role.

28. Laz Alonso

Actor | The Boys

Chosen as one of Variety's "Top Ten Actors to Watch" and part of the new breed of leading men in Hollywood, Laz Alonso is starring in Amazon Prime's series THE BOYS. He can also be seen playing opposite Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba in their new series LA'S FINEST. He previously starred opposite...

Joesph Bowman- 1st Choice.

No one would be better for this role. He would be awesome. Again I feel kinda bad casting tv actors for another tv role but if movies aren’t going to cast them as leads then here you go. Because he is already on an amazing tv show The Boys and hell Karl Urban would be a perfect Woods. Seriously but Bowman is not a fleshed our character but with a tv show and the right casting they can do something special.

29. Mike Colter

Actor | Luke Cage

Mike was born to Mr. & Mrs. Eddie Lee Colter Sr. At just 8 years of age he knew that acting would be his life long ambition when he saw the film "A Soldiers Story" in 1984. He began by starting a drama club in high school and becoming the president of the club. After putting on several plays and ...

Joseph Bowman- 2nd Choice.

It sucks because I'm picking all the old actors but these are the best actors. Mike Colter also would be a great Bowman.

30. O'Shea Jackson Jr.

Actor | Straight Outta Compton

O'Shea Jackson Jr. is an American actor and musician. O'Shea is the son of rapper Ice Cube and he portrayed his father in the 2015 biopic Straight Outta Compton (2015), which was his feature film debut.

His older brother Darrell is also a rapper under the name Doughboy, which is the nickname of the ...

Joseph Bowman- 3rd Choice.

I’m not a big fan of nepotism but I’m just putting him here because well I can see Hollywood doing that tho.

31. Karl Urban

Actor | Star Trek

Originally from Wellington, New Zealand, Karl Urban now lives in Auckland. Born on June 7, 1972, he is the son of a leather-goods manufacturer (who had hoped that Karl would follow in his footsteps). His first acting role was when he was 8 -- he had a line on a television series. However, he did ...

Frank Woods-

I would love to see him as Frank Woods because he looks just like him. But yes he is already in another tv show and I know people are saying actors can be in more than one tv shows and he won’t be the lead. Woods is not a lead but I say we need to get more actors in more roles. He would be brutally good as Woods but again he is Billy Butcher so it will be hard to see him as any other character. So I’m hoping to see some other actors get this chance to kill it.

32. Frank Grillo

Actor | The Grey

The oldest of three children, Frank Grillo was born in New York City, to an Italian-American family. He grew up in upstate New York, and got his first taste of acting in high school where he was in many plays. Frank was also a gifted athlete and his dream was to play sports professionally. Frank ...

Frank Woods- 1st Choice.

Holy crap I can't believe I didn't think of him the second I thought about making this list. Honestly If I can't get a The Boys reunion with Antony as Mason, Laz as Bowman, and Karl as Woods. But instead getting Grillo as Woods, Coulter as Bowman, and Groff as Mason then that will be my three leads for the Black Ops show. Although this does take place during the Vietnam war so these actors might be too old. Damn it. But all of these actors are in great shape but the only one out of the casting I can see are the young guys. The reason why I haven't gone into why Frank Grillo would be a great Woods is because he is Frank Woods I honestly can't think of anyone else who would be a perfect Frank Woods.

33. Damian Lewis

Actor | Band of Brothers

Damian Lewis was born on February 11, 1971, in St. John's Wood, London, England, to Charlotte Mary (Bowater), from an upper-class background, and J. Watcyn Lewis, a city broker whose own parents were Welsh. He was raised on Abbey Road in London until the age of 8 with his siblings Gareth, William, ...

Hudson- 1st Choice.

It is far to say that he is killing it on Billions so it might hard to get him to do another tv show. But he would be a perfect Hudson. He has this grit to him while being a hard ass so you know he can pull off a military like attitude. Along with his warmth in believing in Mason being innocent.

34. Kevin Bacon

Actor | Footloose

Kevin Norwood Bacon was born on July 8, 1958 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Ruth Hilda (Holmes), an elementary school teacher, and Edmund Norwood Bacon, a prominent architect who was on the cover of Time Magazine in November 1964.

Kevin's early training as an actor came from The Manning Street. ...

Hudson- 2nd Choice.

I don’t know if City on a Hill, another Showtime original actually, will continue on but Kevin Bacon definitely fits the bill to fit in Hudson’s shoes. He also doesn’t get enough credit so it would be nice to see him get a role like this.
