September Picks: The Movies and TV You Can't Miss19 of 25
Don't Worry Darling | Premieres in Theaters on Friday, Sept. 23
Plot: A 1950s housewife living with her husband in a utopian experimental community begins to worry that his glamorous company may be hiding disturbing secrets.
Our Take: Florence Pugh and Harry Styles star in this sci-fi-tinged psychological thriller about a breezy midcentury community harboring sinister secrets. There are easy comparisons here to Ira Levin's The Stepford Wives, but director Olivia Wilde cites more current (and disturbing) influences as well. Wilde and writer Katie Silberman spent time studying the "disenfranchised world of white men on the internet," with frequent trips to the darkest corners of YouTube, 4chan, and the like. With a supporting cast that includes Nick Kroll, Gemma Chan, and the effortlessly charismatic Chris Pine, we're preparing for what is sure to be a very stylish descent into mania. — Adrienne
