Cannes Day 3: Jury President Juliette Binoche Calls Out Hollywood’s ‘Silence’ on Gaza
Image
The third day of Cannes was noticeably sleepier, but what could compete with Tom Cruise and the cast and crew of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” storming the Croisette?

Broken silence

On the first day of the Cannes Film Festival, a letter was published condemning the silence of the Hollywood film industry over Israel’s military action in Gaza. Now, more A-listers have added their names to the list, including Joaquin Phoenix (whose “Eddington” premieres at the festival Friday), jury president Juliette Binoche, Riz Ahmed, Jim Jarmusch, Michael Moore and Guillermo del Toro, whose long-awaited take on “Frankenstein” opens later this year.

“Since the terrible massacres of 7 October 2023, no foreign journalist has been authorised to enter the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army is targeting civilians. More than 200 journalists have been deliberately killed. Writers, filmmakers and artists are being brutally murdered,” the letter stated.

What spurred the letter, specifically, was...

Palestinian Photojournalist Fatma Hassona, Killed in Israeli Missile Strike, Remembered at Emotional Cannes Premiere of ‘Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk’
Image
The Cannes world premiere of Sepideh Farsi’s documentary “Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk” turned into a moving tribute to its protagonist Fatma Hassona, who was killed by an Israeli missile just weeks earlier.

An emotional Farsi fought back tears as she introduced the film and afterwards held aloft a photo of Hassona.

Hassona, a 25-year photojournalist who based in Gaza, was killed with her family by an Israeli missile that targeted her building in April, just a day after the film had been selected for Cannes.

In the film, it was revealed that Farsi and Hassona had spoken about the possibility of her leaving Gaza and attending the festival.

On the first day of Cannes, Hassona was named in a letter signed by more than 370 industry figures that condemned her death and also criticized “silence” from the cinema industry over Gaza.

Signed by names such as Mark Ruffalo,...

Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Juliette Binoche, Riz Ahmed and Guillermo del Toro Among Additional Names to Sign Open Letter Condemning Industry Silence Over Gaza (Exclusive)
Image
Joaquin Phoenix, Juliette Binoche, Pedro Pascal, Riz Ahmed and Guillermo del Toro are among a group of figures to have added their names to a letter condemning the film industry for its “silence” over the ongoing and deadly impact of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

The letter, published on the first day of Cannes and initially signed by more than 370 actors and filmmakers, also condemned Israel’s killing of Fatma Hassona, the protagonist of festival-bound doc “Put Your Soul in Your Hand and Walk.”

The new signatories also includes the likes of Rooney Mara, Jim Jarmusch, Omar Sy, Peter Straughan, Camille Cottin, Michael Moore, Boots Riley and Alice Rohrwacher.

The letter urged cinema — which it said was a “breeding ground for socially committed works” — to use its art form to “draw lessons from history, to make films that are committed” and to be “present to protect oppressed voices.”

‘The TIFF Story in 50 Films’: TIFF to Screen Iconic Festival Titles for 50th Anniversary
Cameron Bailey at 2016 Toronto International Film Festival
Toronto, On — May 14, 2025

As the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) celebrates its 50th edition this year, the organization is digging into its own archives—not just to reflect, but to narrate its own cinematic story. The initiative, aptly titled “The TIFF Story in 50 Films,” offers a sweeping retrospective that doubles as both a history lesson and a celebration of the thousands of films that have shaped TIFF over the decades.

Curated by TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey, the list of 50 films isn’t just another “greatest hits” compilation. “Lists are ridiculous, of course, but they’re also irresistible,” Bailey admits. Yet behind the irresistible impulse to rank and remember lies a deeper aim: to understand TIFF’s evolving identity through five decades of bold programming, audience connection, and artistic risk.

A Narrative in 50 Frames

Bailey, who began his TIFF journey programming Canadian films in 1990 and eventually rose to lead the organization,...

‘Carnosaur’ – Digging Up the ’90s Dinosaur Horror Film That ‘Jurassic Park’ Eclipsed
Image
Only one film franchise about killer dinosaurs became successful and popular in the 1990s, and it most certainly was not Carnosaur. Back then, the timing seemed unfortunate for this now-infamous Roger Corman production; Steven Spielberg’s megahit-in-the-making was hot on its tail and, of course, Jurassic Park eventually went on to overshadow Adam Simon’s own story of engineered dinos. As Cormanites know, Corman was not about to let some bad press stand in the way; Carnosaur used the “mockbuster” accusations for its own gain. And more importantly, all the eyes on Corman’s cash-in gave its source material a much-needed second lease on life.

Carnosaur was boldly put in theaters a week before Jurassic Park, however, John Brosnan’s novel actually predated Michael Crichton’s by a good six years. Written under the pseudonym of Harry Adam Knight, 1984’s Carnosaur was well ahead of its time and, unfortunately, fell through the cracks after flopping.

Mark Ruffalo, Guy Pearce, Melissa Barrera and Ralph Fiennes Among 350+ Figures to Sign Letter About Killing of Palestinian Protagonist of Cannes-Bound Doc: ‘We Are Ashamed’ of Industry ‘Passivity’ (Exclusive)
Image
A group of more than 350 international actors, directors and producers have signed a letter published on the first day of Cannes condemning the killing of Fatma Hassona, the Palestinian photojournalist and protagonist of the festival-bound documentary “Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk,” in an Israeli airstrike.

The letter, signed by names such as Mark Ruffalo, Guy Pearce, Ralph Fiennes, Melissa Barrera, Yorgos Lanthimos, Javier Bardem, Hannah Einbinder, Pedro Almodóvar, David Cronenberg, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Leigh, Alex Gibney, Viggo Mortensen, Cynthia Nixon, Tessa Ross and many more, also called out the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ for its “lack of support” for “No Other Land” co-director Hamdan Ballal.

Just three weeks after winning the Oscar for the documentary, Ballal was assaulted by settlers and kidnapped by the Israeli army. After being criticized for its silence over the incident, AMPAS eventually publicly apologized. “We are ashamed of such passivity,...

Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, David Cronenberg & Javier Bardem Join 380 Cinema Figures In Open Letter Condemning Silence Over Gaza – Cannes
Image
More than 350 film world figures, including Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon and Javier Bardem, have published an open letter on the eve of the Cannes Film Festival condemning “silence” over the deadly impact of Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza.

The letter, published on the website of France’s Libération newspaper on Monday evening, was headed “In Cannes, the horror Gaza must not be silenced”. It was addressed “For Fatem”, in memory of 25-year-old Gaza artist and photojournalist Fatima Hassouna.

The young woman was killed in an Israeli airstrike in mid-April just 24 hours after it was announced a documentary exploring her life in the Gaza Strip would world premiere in the Cannes. Ten of her relatives, including her pregnant sister, were killed in same strike.

“She was a Palestinian freelance photojournalist. She was targeted by the Israeli army on 16 April, 2025, the day after it was announced that Sepideh Farsi’s...

Podtalk: Icon David Cronenberg on ‘The Shrouds’ and Career
Image
Chicago – In the pantheon of filmmaker breakthroughs from the 1980s, David Cronenberg is a “name above the title” … along with Spielberg, Scorsese, Cameron, Stone, Carpenter and Lynch … in his distinct style and influence. His latest film – currently in select theaters – is “The Shrouds.” Patrick McDonald got the privilege of talking to the master.

In “The Shrouds,” the angular Vincent Cassel is Karsh, a bereaved widower who is also a tech financier. In memoriam to his wife Becca, Karsh has built a new style of memorial called GraveTech, in which the bodies of the deceased are enmeshed in a digital shroud, which uses it’s camera chips to project an image of the decaying corpse on a screen embedded in the gravestone. This morbid technique gets some interest for other uses by the Chinese and the Russians, as well as Karsh’s tech expert Maury (Guy Pearce). It is a vandalism...

Tom Segura’s Mom Roasts His Netflix Comedy ‘Bad Thoughts’: ‘It’s an Insult to Humanity’ (Exclusive)
Image
Netflix has gifted fans a truly unhinged Mother’s Day treat: Tom Segura’s Peruvian mom Charo, absolutely eviscerating his new sketch comedy series, “Bad Thoughts.”

In a riotous promo released to Variety exclusively, the “Your Mom’s House” comedian invites his actual mother to a private screening — equipped with a reaction device to track her feedback. What follows is pure comedy gold.In the video, Segura gently instructs his mother to use a three-button device: a plus sign for approval, a thumbs down for disapproval, and a red button if something is so offensive she’d turn it off completely. By the end of the screening, she’s ready to disown him.

“No, Tommy. That’s not funny. This is so disgusting. I am beyond vomit,” she says, wincing as one sketch dives into jaw-dropping inappropriate territory. And that’s just the start.

“You can be a good comedian without being that disgusting,...

The Most Disturbing Horror Film You’ve Never Seen Is Now Free to Stream
Image
There’s something undeniably appealing about subversive, boundary-pushing horror cinema. It’s cathartic to see filmmakers deal with heavy themes in a safe space. The Richard Bates Jr. film Excision very much fits that mold. This brutal, under-seen indie is a grisly nightmare of a film I’ve only watched a handful of times to date, but it’s imprinted in my brain like I just watched it yesterday.

Writer/director Bates juxtaposes violent imagery and sexually explicit themes alongside the blackest of comedy, all wrapped in the guise of a coming-of-age film about a deeply disturbed high school student. The film takes the kind of body horror for which beloved director David Cronenberg is so well known and pairs that with themes of loneliness, teenage sexuality, and mental illness. Bates’ direction and script are on point, as is AnnaLynne McCord’s jarring turn as lead character Pauline.

The setup...

How Christian Bale was Cast in American Psycho
Image
Sometimes, a movie character is cast so perfectly that you can’t even fathom another actor playing the role. Cue Christian Bale in American Psycho, a career-launching breakout performance as Patrick Bateman, the greedy, materialistic Wall Street yuppie who moonlights as a murderous, stark-raving mad psycho killer while trying to preserve his public mask of sanity. Whether it’s all in his mind, Bale plays Bateman with such outward surety and inward insecurity, such brooding intensity and mordant comedy at once, that he keeps viewers guessing about Bateman’s sick, twisted, hyperviolent fantasies.

To think that director Mary Harron had to fight tooth and nail to cast Bateman in the role is preposterous to consider now, 25 years after the film was released. But again, even if Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt played Patrick Bateman, both of whom were attached to the role at one point, neither would likely strike the...

Revenge of the Remakes: Horror Reboots That Actually Worked
Image
Horror remakes get a bad rap – and let’s be honest, they often deserve it. For every clever reimagining, we’ve sat through a dozen limp reboots that sucked the life (and the scares) right out of the original. But sometimes, a remake comes along that doesn’t just cash in on nostalgia; it sharpens, reinvents, or even surpasses the source material.

With fresh remakes like Wolf Man (2025) and Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Frankenstein reboot lighting up horror headlines, now’s the perfect time to revisit the remakes that proved this subgenre can deliver more than lazy copy-paste thrills. Here’s our list of horror reboots and remakes that earned their place in the genre’s blood-soaked hall of fame.

Horror Remakes That Actually Worked The Thing (1982)

John Carpenter’s The Thing often gets cited as one of the best horror remakes ever made… and for good reason. While...

The Shrouds (2024) Review
Image
The new David Cronenberg feature, The Shrouds, screened at the Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans this year. I was able to grab a seat at the Sunday afternoon showing which felt very apt for the mellow mood of the film.

With a wide release on April 18th, be prepared for the subtle and quiet weirdness that Cronenberg has honed in his recent releases like Crimes of the Future. The Shrouds is equal parts psychological thriller and body horror, presented very stylistically with a plot that unravels unhurriedly.

The story focuses on the grief of creative director turned death innovator Karsh, played by Vincent Cassel. Karsh has developed a “shroud” system to capture every intimate detail of decay for those who, like himself, find more comfort confronting their loss by immersing themselves in it. After the vandalism of his inaugural high-tech gravesite and the discovery of strange growths on his deceased wife’s skeleton,...

Review: David Cronenberg’s The Shrouds Explained (I Think)
Image
Legendary writer/director David Cronenberg maintains his status as Canada’s coolest weirdo with his latest feature The Shrouds. Cronenberg’s conspiracy obsessed techo-mystery stars Vincent Cassel (Eastern Promises) as Karsh, a morose but visionary widower who has built an empire dedicated to his eternal grief for his late wife Becca (Diane Kruger, Inglorious Basterds). Through his company GraveTech, Karsh invents a shroud that the deceased are wrapped in at burial which allows the bereaved to view their loved ones in the grave. You know, like a baby monitor for watching your spouse decompose in real-time. Naturally this business is met with all manner of protest but after someone(s) vandalizes his customers’ (and his wife’s) burial plots, Karsh uncovers a bewildering conspiracy that threatens his life, his livelihood, and his link to the grave.

For anyone still on the fence about taking the trip to see The Shrouds during its theatrical run,...

Why Star Trek: Voyager's Original Captain Janeway Left, According To Garrett Wang
Image
"Star Trek: Voyager" was a big deal when it debuted on January 16, 1995. It was the first "Star Trek" show to premiere after the conclusion of the mega-hit "Star Trek: The Next Generation," leaving many Trekkies to opine that it was forced to "stand on its own," so to speak. The new series starred Kate Mulgrew as Captain Kathryn Janeway, the commander of a Starfleet vessel, the U.S.S. Voyager, which found itself whisked across the galaxy by a godlike alien. "Voyager" followed its leads as they began their trek back home to Earth from there, a journey that would seemingly take them 70 years. The show was unique in the "Star Trek" canon as it centered on a Starfleet vessel that didn't have any Federation backup and only encountered aliens that had never heard of them.

Mulgrew took to her role well, infusing Janeway with a lot of fascinating contradictions.

Before Dominating The Horror Genre, Ryan Murphy Created A Grisly Medical Drama
Image
When most people these days think about TV writer and producer Ryan Murphy, they're most likely to think of one of his many horror-based projects. He's created or co-created a number of high-profile horror projects over the years, from the ambitious anthology series "American Horror Story" to dramatizations of true crime stories ranging from Jeffrey Dahmer to O.J. Simpson. Blood and guts just seem to be a part of his creative vision. For fans who have been following the campy creator for a long time, however, his habit for horror storytelling really isn't a surprise, because he created one of the gnarliest (and most exploitative) medical dramas of all time: "Nip/Tuck."

"Nip/Tuck" followed Miami-based plastic surgeons Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) and Dr. Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) as they dealt with a whole lot more than a few nips and tucks. There were torrid affairs, a couple of love triangles,...

The already highly-anticipated 2025 Tribeca Festival just got an extra boost of star power. IndieWire can announce that Martin Scorsese, David Cronenberg, Darren Aronofsky, and Christopher Guest are among the auteurs who will be in attendance for respective film anniversary reunions.

Tribeca staple Scorsese will be on hand to mark the 30th anniversary of “Casino” with a special screening and conversation alongside actor and Tribeca co-founder Robert De Niro. Scorsese will also introduce a special 35mm screening of “Kundun” in honor of the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday.

The 10 Best Stephen King Book Endings, Ranked
Image
Most people who have read a book or two are well aware that Stephen King is the reigning ruler of the horror genre and a capable contender in several other areas of literature. Still, even his most ardent fans are likely quick to admit that King's endings have a reputation for disappointment. His longer works, in particular, tend to spend so much effort on world-building and intricate plot-weaving that the creative juice seems to run out when it's time to stick the landing.

As a result, King's stories can remind the reader of that meme where a hyperrealistic drawing of a horse gets progressively worse until the tail end is just a doodle. Consider, say, "Under the Dome" (2009), one of the author's patented "small town in a predicament" stories ... only, one that ends with the revelation that the whole nail-biting plot was caused by some alien kids goofing off.

Still,...

David Cronenberg says he’s working on an adaptation of his novel, Consumed
David Cronenberg
Director David Cronenberg’s 2014 Consumed novel could become a TV or film, as the filmmaker says he’s adapting the script.

In 2014, Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg became a novelist with Consumed, a characteristically uneasy book about the relationship between cold technology and fleshy humans.

Currently on the promotional trail for his new film, The Shrouds, Cronenberg has suggested that Consumed could eventually become a TV or film, since he’s currently adapting it into a script.

In an interview with Variety (with a hat-tip to World of Reel), the filmmaker has said that the catalyst for the adaptation is Robert Lantos, the producer he’s regularly collaborated with in the past, from 1996’s Crash to 2022’s Crimes Of The Future.

“We’re talking about possibly doing a movie based on my novel Consumed,” Cronenberg said. “[Lantos has] wanted to turn that either into a series or a movie for some years, and...

David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds” Confronts Death Through Fiction
David Cronenberg
David Cronenberg’s latest film, The Shrouds, now in theaters via Sideshow and Janus Films, draws from deeply personal experiences without crossing into autobiography, the director insists. The film follows Karsh, a Canadian tech entrepreneur portrayed by Vincent Cassel, who creates a cemetery where loved ones can monitor real-time decomposition through an app-connected burial shroud. The concept stems from Cronenberg’s own grief after the death of his wife, Carolyn, in 2017.

Despite surface parallels between Cronenberg and his protagonist — including Karsh’s distinctive hairstyle and minimalist attire — the filmmaker maintains a sharp distinction between personal experience and fiction. “Once I start writing the screenplay, it becomes fiction and I’m creating fictional characters who are not me,” Cronenberg said in an interview.

The Shrouds explores themes of mourning, love, technology, and existential longing. The film’s origin traces back to Cronenberg’s visceral reaction to losing his wife. He described...

David Cronenberg on Leaving Reality Behind in His Tragic New Film ‘The Shrouds’ and Why He Rejects Hollywood’s ‘Delusional’ Obsession With Film Over Digital
Image
It’s easy to see shadows of David Cronenberg in his newest film, “The Shrouds,” now playing in theaters via Sideshow and Janus Films. Vincent Cassel stars as Karsh, a Canadian tech guru who creates a graveyard where you can watch your loved ones rot in their coffin in real-time via an app. Between Karsh’s styling — which looks very similar to Cronenberg’s signature shock of hair and minimalist chic wardrobe — and the fact that Cronenberg wrote this film after his wife’s passing in 2017, many critics took this to mean the work was largely autobiographical. Cronenberg’s rejection of the notion was just one of the first surprising musings from a discussion with Variety about his approach to art, including his consideration of the audience, embrace of technology and rejection of genre.

So many of your movies feel like they have personal elements. “The Shrouds” seems like one of your most personal works.

‘The Shrouds’ Director David Cronenberg Wants to Retire the Term ‘Body Horror’
Image
David Cronenberg, aficionado of the unnerving, won’t let his feelings about a creator get in the way of a creation. “I still love my Tesla,” says the filmmaker, seated in a dimly lit conference room at the Criterion Collection’s Manhattan office. “My relationship with my Tesla has nothing to do with Elon. We have a separate love.” He smiles wanly.

One of Musk’s machines plays a minor role in Cronenberg’s latest picture, The Shrouds (out now), when the story’s antagonist, Guy Pearce, programs coordinates into...

Where to Watch ‘The Shrouds:’ Is the David Cronenberg Movie Streaming?
Image
For cinephiles of a certain proclivity, a new David Cronenberg movie is a true event.

The director, who just turned 82, has a filmography so singular and distinct that the word “Cronenbergian” has become an adjective and if somebody uses it you know exactly what they mean – twisted, visionary and usually dealing with body horror or technological investigation (oftentimes both).

Cronenberg’s latest, “The Shrouds,” is one of the filmmaker’s very best, most personal movies and, since it premiered last summer at the Cannes Film Festival, the wait has been excruciating.

But now that it’s here, how can you watch it? Read on to find out.

What is the release date?

As of April 25, “The Shrouds” is now in theaters nationwide. It was in limited release last week but is now playing everywhere. As it should be.

Is it streaming?

How David Cronenberg Turned ‘The Shrouds’ From a Failed Netflix Series Into One of His Most Personal Movies
Image
Before the pandemic, David Cronenberg pitched a series to Netflix.

The director of movies like “Videodrome,” “The Fly” and “eXistenZ” – stories that investigated the dangerous frontier of cutting-edge technology – said that he was interested in streaming as a new form of cinema. “I thought it was really cinema, but it’s not traditional movies – it’s kind of interesting to do, let’s say an eight-hour movie. I thought that’s a form that I maybe would explore,” Cronenberg said. He pitched them an idea that was based on a recent personal tragedy – in 2017 Cronenberg lost his wife of 43 years to cancer. She was only 66.

He told them the story of what would eventually become “The Shrouds” (now in theaters nationwide) – it would follow a man named Karsh, whose wife had tragically died. Bereaved, he concocts the idea for a 21st century cemetery, one that will allow you, through cutting edge technology,...

Audio Film Review: Undercover Lover in David Cronenberg’s ‘The Shrouds’
Image
Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review for the new release “The Shrouds,” a psychological thriller/horror film by the legendary auteur David Cronenberg, dealing with themes of loss, mourning and redemption. In select theaters on April 25th, see local listings.

The angular Vincent Cassel is Karsh, a bereaved widower who is also a tech financier. It is vandalism at his wife’s graveyard tips the scale of The Shrouds capabilities.

David Cronenberg on What ‘The Shrouds’ Would Have Been Like as a Netflix Series
Image
Writer/director David Cronenberg’s new film “The Shrouds” was first developed as a television series for Netflix. The sci-fi and body horror master even wrote what would have been the first two episodes, which eventually became the jumping off point for the movie script. But, as Cronenberg told IndieWire while a guest on this week’s episode of the Filmmaker Toolkit podcast, the major concept behind the series only partially survived.

“It was quite a rewrite,” said Cronenberg. “It wasn’t just a fusion of the two episodes at all.”

Both the film and would-be TV version revolve around the grieving widow and entrepreneur Karsh (Vincent Cassel) having invented Grave Tech, a technology business that allows family members to stream live video of their loved one’s corpse. One of the film’s subplots, Karsh’s attempts to expand his business into other countries, only hints at what would...

Director really wanted this dead I Know What You Did Last Summer character to return for the sequel
Image
I Know What You Did Last Summer writer-director Jenn Kaytin Robinson wanted Sarah Michelle Gellar to return for the legacy sequel just as badly as the fans, if not more.

"I tried, okay? I harassed her!" Robinson revealed during a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Alas, it wasn't meant to be. According to the filmmaker, Gellar was adamant that her character, Helen Shivers, was dead, telling Robinson, "I am dead. I am Sarah Dead Gellar."

To Gellar's credit, bringing Helen back in any meaningful way would be next to impossible. Her character's dead body is shown frozen on ice, another fact the actress made sure to remind Robinson of. Despite that, the director did say she pitched some "crazy s---," including the possibility of Helen being in hiding all this time.

Unless Gellar pulled a Ringer twin twist at some point between 1997 and the new movie, that wouldn't work either.

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Reboot Director ‘Pitched Crazy Sh*t’ to Original Star Sarah Michelle Gellar to Convince Her to Return
Image
No, Sarah Michelle Gellar isn’t returning this summer for the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot. Why? Because her iconic character Helen Shivers is “the most dead a person could be.” To be fair, she did have the most memorable kill scene in the 1997 original film…

But that didn’t stop “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson from gently “harassing” Gellar to reconsider returning to the franchise. Robinson previously worked with Gellar on the 2022 Netflix film “Do Revenge,” and the duo have remained close since.

Robinson told Entertainment Weekly that, while original franchise stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are returning for the horror sequel, Gellar had to turn down reprising her role. “I tried, Ok? I harassed her! But she is dead,” Robinson told the outlet. “I tried to pitch some crazy shit too. I was like, ‘What...

Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds”
Take a look at writer/director David Cronenberg’s latest horror feature “The Shrouds”, starring Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger, Guy Pearce and Sandrine Holt, releasing April 25, 2025 in theaters:

‘…‘Karsh’, an innovative businessman and grieving widower, builds a device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud.

“Installed at his own controversial state-of-the-art cemetery, the device enables him and his clients to watch their departed loved ones decompose in real time.

“Karsh’s morbidly revolutionary business is on the verge of breaking into the international mainstream when several graves within his cemetery, including that of his wife, are vandalized and nearly destroyed.

“While he struggles to uncover a clear motive for the attack, the mystery of who wrought this havoc, and why, drives him to re-evaluate his business, marriage, and fidelity to his late wife’s memory, and pushes him to new beginnings…”

‘Ready or Not 2’: Release Date, Cast, Plot, and All You Need to Know
Image
When Ready or Not 2 was officially announced, fans of the cult hit instantly knew that we’re in for another wild, bloody ride. When the first one dropped in 2019, nobody expected a blood-soaked game of hide-and-seek to become one of the most entertaining horror-comedies of the decade. But thanks to its razor-sharp humor, wild twists, and a badass bride in a torn wedding dress, the film became an instant cult favorite.

Samara Weaving’s Grace gave us the perfect mix of final girl grit and “I’m-so-done-with-this-family” energy, and audiences were obsessed. Set against the gothic grandeur of the Le Domas estate, the story followed newlywed Grace as she discovered her new in-laws weren’t just rich and weird — they were rich, weird, and deadly, bound by a creepy family ritual that required her demise by dawn. Casual, right?

Fast-forward to 2025, and Ready or Not is back for round two,...

You might have missed a huge and exciting update for Ready or Not 2
Image
A Ready or Not sequel was confirmed earlier this year, and now we're starting to get more details about the upcoming film from Radio Silence, which will see the return of star Samara Weaving.

Weaving was the "final girl" from the 2019 movie. Her character, Grace, married into the Le Domas family, unaware of the twisted game they play on every family member's wedding day. Grace picks "Hide-and-Seek," leading her to run from the family as they try to murder her to fulfill their part of a generational curse.

Earlier this week, Searchlight Pictures shared an endearing promotional video announcing new cast members and more.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come

Even before the sequel was officially announced, fans hoped it would be subtitled "Here I Come." It's similar to Happy Death Day 2U and the upcoming Now You See Me: Now You Don't. Who doesn't love a clever title...

Ryan Coogler expresses his gratitude for the overwhelming audience response to Sinners
Image
Sinners has been building hype ever since Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan had studios discreetly read their script in a supervised session. Then, studios began a bidding war for a film that no one knew details about, except that it was a “genre movie.” That genre turned out to be a period vampire film and audiences turned out for Sinners this past week with a huge positive response and rave reviews. In his review, our own Chris Bumbray says, “It’s good enough that I can’t help but hope Coogler eventually parts ways with the MCU (after his next Black Panther flick), as he seems better off playing in his own sandbox. Given the right resources and support, Sinners might be the beginning of a whole new chapter for one of our most exciting, emerging filmmakers.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, writer and director Ryan Coogler wrote a...

Sinners Director Ryan Coogler Thanks Lengthy List of 'Cinematic Influences' Who Inspired The Film
Image
Ryan Coogler recently revealed a long list of Hollywood creatives who served as the inspiration for making Sinners. It's a stacked ensemble of risk-takers who helped shape cinema throughout the decades.

Sinners has been a breakout success and has received overwhelming praise from critics. Its box office run has also exceeded expectations. Coogler said that it would have been impossible without the "cinematic influences" of more than 40 filmmakers. "I had the gift ofthe opportunity of making a film inspired by my family and my ancestry, but it was always a film that we wanted to make for audiences, in theaters," he said in a letter via IndieWire. "We always had our minds on you, the audience, and felt a deep responsibility to entertain you, and move you in the way only cinema can."

In no particular order, Coogler named visionary directors like Quentin Tarantino, Jordan Peele, Christopher Nolan,...

Ryan Coogler Expresses “Eternal Gratitude” After ‘Sinners’ Box Office Success: “Your Response to the Film Has Invigorated Me”
Image
Ryan Coogler is expressing his “eternal gratitude” following the successful box office debut of his latest movie, Sinners.

The filmmaker penned an emotional letter to those who went to the theater this past week to watch the film, starring Michael B. Jordan. The horror pic follows twin brothers who return to their hometown to start again, trying to leave their troubled lives behind, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

“Eternal gratitude. My heart is bursting with it,” Coogler’s letter read. “I want to thank each and every one of you who bought a ticket to see Sinners. Who decided to drive to see the film in different formats. Who bought popcorn and a drink, booked a sitter and carpooled, and stood in the lobby afterward and talked and made a friend. Who changed their work schedules. Who saw the film in groups.

Ryan Coogler Thanks Over 40 ‘Cinematic Influences’ Who Inspired ‘Sinners,’ Including Spike Lee, Quentin Tarantino, and Brian De Palma
Image
Ryan Coogler is thanking his fellow titans of cinema for inspiring “Sinners.” The critically acclaimed Warner Bros. feature stars Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers Smoke and Stack who return to 1932 Mississippi after surviving World War I. The duo open a blues club and soon are faced with battling Irish vampires who have migrated South. The film marks the latest collaboration between Coogler and actor Jordan, whose 13-year partnership began with “Fruitvale Station.”

Now, Coogler is reflecting on crafting “Sinners” and pointing to the auteurs he calls his “cinematic influences.” “I had the gift of the opportunity of making a film inspired by my family and my ancestry, but it was always a film that we wanted to make for audiences, in theaters,” Coogler wrote in a letter shared with IndieWire. “We always had our minds on you, the audience, and felt a deep responsibility to entertain you, and move...

Ryan Coogler Reacts to ‘Sinners’ Box Office Victory in Thank You Letter to Fans: ‘Your Response to the Film Has Re-Invigorated Me’
Image
“Sinners” director Ryan Coogler has penned an emotional open letter thanking fans for showing up in droves to see the film in theaters, writing that his heart is “bursting” with “eternal gratitude.”

Coogler’s movie, starring Michael B. Jordan as the Smokestack twins, won the weekend, grossing $48 million domestically and $63 million globally.

The only way they got to that figure, the filmmaker writes, was thanks to the fans who bought a ticket: those “who decided to drive to see the film in different formats. Who bought popcorn and a drink, booked a sitter and carpooled, and stood in the lobby afterwards and talked and made a friend. Who changed their work schedules. Who saw the film in groups. … who watched more than once, who recommended the film to others, both in person and on social media or on your text message chains.”
