Steven Spielberg made dinosaur noises on the set of Jurassic Park to cue the cast's reactions. Sam Neill and Laura Dern recalled humorous memories of Spielberg's "terrifying" roars while pretending to be a T-Rex or Velociraptor during filming. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director J.A. Bayona provided actors with dinosaur sounds during filming, a noticeable difference from Spielberg's dinosaur impersonations.

Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum recently spoke to Empire for a special celebratory edition of the magazine, recalling memories of their time being beseiged by dinosaurs.

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory is a follow-up series to Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. The Chaos Theory trailer focuses on Darius, the resident genius from Camp Cretaceous, who loves dinosaurs. Chaos Theory can potentially fix franchise mistakes and explore the turmoil caused by free-roaming dinosaurs.
The Jurassic Park franchise is one of Hollywood's most successful and beloved properties. Interestingly, it has evolved past the Steven Spielberg era, with the modern Jurassic World movies leaning harder on warped science, and the idea that dinosaurs are the perfect foils to unleash away from parks and onto civilization. This led to the recent movies playing on the concept of dinosaurs roaming free in the wild to constitute one of the biggest paradigm shifts in the franchise.
Interestingly, Netflix's Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous detailed the adventures of six teenagers stuck on Isla Nublar, giving previous insight into how these creatures would be when left unattended.

Sam Neill, who appeared as Dr. Alan Grant in several Jurassic Park movies, is weighing in on whether the franchise could succeed as a limited television series.
When CinemaBlend asked Neill to share his thoughts on the concept, the actor was unsure if the story could sustain an entire season. "I have no idea about that at all. All I can tell you is for some reason, well for lots of reasons, the Jurassic franchise seems to have a lot of momentum, and there's new generations discovering it all the time," he said. "I mean, we made the first one 30 years ago or something, and kids love dinosaurs. I think it's a franchise ... It keeps being rediscovered. But whether it can sustain eight episodes, I have no idea."

Sam Neill isn't sure if a Jurassic Park TV show could sustain itself over multiple episodes. Jurassic Park movies have traditionally been summer blockbusters that make use of their theatrical presentation. Bringing dinosaurs to life on TV to the same standard as in the movies could be too expensive to be worth doing.
Jurassic Park star Sam Neill candidly addresses whether a TV show spinoff of the franchise would work. When Sam Neill made Jurassic Park, it was an entirely new experience for him. Prior to that, he’d never been in a movie that was driven by special effects to the extent that Jurassic Park was. Of course, in 1993, computer graphics for film were still in their infancy, so a lot of Jurassic Park’s effects were practical, including many of the dinosaurs seen in the movie. At the time the film was released, Neill talked to us about what it was like to act in the presence of dinosaur and to see the finished film for the first time. Two-time Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson is in talks to join the Gareth Edwards-directed Jurassic World reboot at Universal.
This has been out there in the ether for some time, but it’s looking quite solid. This puts Johansson in business with another major movie franchise following her Black Widow days at Marvel, which resulted in the star suing Disney over the 2021 pandemic release of that movie, which the studio opted to go day-and-date on Disney+, thus siphoning box office grosses. The two sides ultimately settled.
Universal is assembling the project quickly for a July 2, 2025, release. David Koepp, who adapted the first Jurassic Park from Michael Crichton’s classic novel, is penning the latest iteration of Jurassic World.

The Ides of March were marked this year by a three-way race among high profile filmmakers – Peter Farrelly, Doug Liman and Guy Ritchie – with original streaming film and TV series debuts across Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. But the sleeper success story of the week belonged to Netflix’s Lindsay Lohan rom com movie “Irish Wish.”
Ritchie made a splashy debut on March 7 with Netflix’s “The Gentlemen,” an eight-episode TV heist drama delivered in the director’s signature style. In its second week, “Gentlemen” had solid hold with a modest 30% decline to 1.3 billion minutes watched during the March 15-21 frame, according to original streaming content ratings calculated by Luminate.

For the park to clear the lawsuit and be granted an opening date, mastermind entrepreneur, John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), must seek out the opinions of paleontologist Alan Grant (Sam Neill), paleobotanist Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and mathematician Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), some of the top experts in their fields, who can provide the probability of things going array. It seems like a sure-footed plan, but, of course, things don't go well. The dinosaurs...

Exclusive: Apples Never Fall is off to a strong start on Peacock.
The series debuted on March 14 and, in its first weekend on the platform, it racked up 400M minutes watched, according to Nielsen data.

Structurally, it was a brilliant conceit having six of the seven episodes of the “Apples Never Fall” limited series (currently streaming on Peacock) revolve around a different family member in this twisted jigsaw puzzle of a mystery. Score one for showrunner Melanie Marnich, who had a lot of bitter-tasting family dynamics to work with in adapting Liane Moriarty’s (“Big Little Lies”) page-turner novel. It’s about the tennis-obsessed Delaneys, who unravel when matriarch Joy (Annette Bening) suddenly disappears and hot-tempered patriarch Stan (Sam Neill) becomes the prime suspect in what eventually becomes a murder investigation.
As a result, their four adult children — Troy (Jake Lacy), Amy (Alison Brie), Logan (Conor Merrigan-Turner), and Brooke (Essie Randles) — are forced to confront their dysfunctional upbringing, competitive natures, and toxic relationships in realizing that they function more like a South Florida cult than a loving family.

Peacock’s Apples Never Fall, which is based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel, tells the story of the seemingly picture-perfect Delaney family. However, when Joy (Annette Bening) goes missing and dark secret after dark secret is revealed, we quickly see just how twisted this competitive family truly is. While it is in our nature as an audience to attempt to put the puzzle pieces together until the very end, this series gives us the answer fairly quickly, hiding it in plain sight as it throws other suspects in the path to distract us.
Why do we choose to ignore what’s clearly wrong right in front of us? It’s not only a question that the members of the Delaney family, specifically the kids, should be asking themselves when Joy does return, but the audience as well. While we could not...

Apples Never Fall on Peacock stars Annette Bening, offering a twisty mystery that diverges from the novel with unique character relationships. Changes in the show include Brooke's affair, Stan's implication in Joy's disappearance, and a different ending that still honors the source material. Creator Melanie Marnich's adaptation keeps the spirit of Liane Moriarty's novel alive while adding dramatic twists to engage viewers.
Based on the Liane Moriarty novel of the same name, Apples Never Fall is a mystery drama series that premiered on Peacock on March 14, 2024. The series stars Annette Bening as Joy Delaney, a wife and mother of four children who suddenly disappears, leaving it up to her family members to discover her whereabouts. Although the series has garnered mild reviews, most critics agree that the performances by Bening and the supporting cast members are worth watching.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Apples Never Fall finale.] Apples Never Fall spent seven episodes unraveling the mystery of Joy Delaney’s (Annette Bening) disappearance, and as it turns out, no one’s theories about whodunnit were right. In fact, the explanation was overwhelmingly simple. Each episode of the Peacock melodrama focused on a different member of the Delaney family. It featured flashbacks from “then” and “now” to show how the family’s rift happened, how it led to Joy going missing, and the aftermath. While her absence caused shockwaves and was splashed across the news, the truth was ultimately pretty anticlimactic. Joy wasn’t dead; she just left. Finding out why she left answered every lingering question the series posed. By the time we got to Sam Neill‘s Stan-focused Episode 6, everyone in the family and the court of public opinion (including the West Palm Beach police) believed he was responsible for her disappearance.

Editor’s note: The below contains spoilers for the series finale of “Apples Never Fall.”
Still reeling from that “Apples Never Fall” ending? Well, actor Sam Neill is about to take a bite out of just how that shocking finale came to be – and (surprise) it wasn’t even the original conclusion planned by showrunner Melanie Marnich.
“Apples Never Fall” strayed from the Liane Moriarty novel source material, and due to the WGA strike in 2023, production was halted in Australia. Showunner Marnich told IndieWire that due to the strike, she was no longer on set as a writer and executive producer, but that the directors and actors continued until the SAG-AFTRA strike subsequently went into effect.
“They were true to the scripts which I really appreciated and they were so respectful,” Marnich recalled. “But then the actor strike hit and we of course shut down. Honestly, when we came back,...

Apples Never Fall is the latest series to be adapted from a popular Liane Moriarty book, following Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers. While it certainly has a sprawling ensemble like those TV series, this time the focus is mainly on one single family and the resentments and secrets — and possible murder — which is tearing them apart.
Apples Never Fall follows Stan and Joy Delaney, two respected tennis enthusiasts who are retiring and selling their tennis academy, as none of their children were interested in running the academy. There is a lot of emotional distance in this family already, but when Joy goes missing one day and Stan lies about her disappearance, the Delaneys become involved in a police investigation that opens up every issue, hidden or otherwise, in the family's life.

This post contains minor spoilers for "Apples Never Fall."
Author Liane Moriarty writes twisty thrillers centered on complex female experiences within distinct socio-cultural settings, and her books have proven to be perfect for small-screen adaptations. Moriarty's "Nine Perfect Strangers," which was adapted by Hulu, explored themes of loss, alienation, and the search for meaning, while her "Big Little Lies" got the grand HBO adaptation treatment with two brilliant seasons (and the possibility of season 3 being still up in the air). Her latest work, "Apples Never Fall," has now been adapted into a brand new Peacock series of the same name developed by Melanie Marnich, who saw immense potential in translating Moriarty's challenging material for television.
Marnich experienced some issues during the adaptation process, as she considers Moriarty's book "an embarrassment of riches" where it was "really, really hard to figure out what served the momentum of the show and...

The Liane Moriarty cinematic universe has now come to Peacock, but how does one adapt the author behind “Big Little Lies” and “Nine Perfect Strangers” work for the screen?
“Apples Never Fall” showrunner Melanie Marnich told IndieWire that maintaining beloved novelist Moriarty’s “page-turner energy” was key for adapting the twisted family drama starring Annette Bening and Sam Neill.
“The pacing of those kinds of moments was to make the TV show have the same page-turner energy of the book,” Marnich said. “It was something I had to really be aware of. In the writer’s room, we worked really hard to craft the sort of constant turn of the story. It was so juicy. I’m a huge fan of Liane. I really, really worked to capture that same page turner energy in the show to keep things moving, but also never at the sacrifice of character development.”

One of the sub-genres that fans love in the fantasy realm is dragon stories. Netflix is tapping into this with Millie Bobby Brown's Damsel, where she plays Princess Elodie, a young woman forced to fight off a dragon she was offered up to as a sacrifice.
While Elodie's journey is more action-laced, there are many dragon tales filled with romance, drama, and horror. It reiterates how versatile these stories can be. With that in mind, here are some entertaining dragon stories outside of Damsel.

Everyone has done jobs they're not particularly proud of in their past. For actors, any of these past works are in the public eye, even if some go on to be largely forgotten. This includes the fan-favorite horror genre, from cheap, grindhouse and direct-to-video schlock to big-budget misfires. Beyond the quality of the movies, some actors just didn't have particularly pleasant experiences behind-the-scenes, leading them to distance themselves from their projects after completion. Every actor has a handful of films that they wish they hadn't signed on for, and with the benefit of hindsight, several have gone public with their regrets.
From established genre icons disappointed at their respective franchise returns to newcomers trying to get their start, horror has no shortage of movies Hollywood stars want off their resume. In a particular instance, one actor's horror movie experience led them to not only regret their participation, but quit acting altogether.

Apples Never Fall struggles to differentiate itself, relying on worn-out tropes compared to Moriarty's previous standouts. Apples Never Fall is a new Peacock series about a retired tennis coach who mysteriously goes missing not long after a young woman comes knocking on her door asking for help. The seven-episode mystery drama follows the family, including Joy’s husband and four grown kids, and their desperation to find out where she is, what happened to her, and if she’s even alive. The finger-pointing, suspicions, secrets, and lies come flooding out in the process.
The concept of a missing person isn’t new in the TV medium; in fact, there are droves of TV shows centered around someone (or multiple people) who vanish suddenly. The plot is typically about following breadcrumbs to figure out what happened to that person. While the outcomes aren’t always a happy reunion, the journey to get to the end of each fictional story is always intriguing.

The finale of “Apples Never Fall” on Peacock fills in all the gaps left behind by the six episodes before it by pulling back the curtains of what happened to missing matriarch Joy Delaney (Annette Bening) from her own perspective.
After Joy, mother and core of the Delaney family, goes missing, her husband Stan (Sam Neill) and four children — Amy (Alison Brie), Troy (Jake Lacy), Logan (Conor Merrigan Turner) and Brooke (Essie Randles) — are forced to hash out long-simmering resentments and regrets while trying to figure out where Joy went.
The series is divided into standalone episodes through each family member’s perspective, with Stan and Joy’s episodes being the climactic final two as the mystery finally comes together.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains major spoilers for “Apples Never Fall,” now streaming on Peacock.
Known for her twisty and darkly humorous thrillers, Liane Moriarty is the author behind the source material for TV hits like HBO’s “Big Little Lies” and Hulu’s “Nine Perfect Strangers.” Like many of her stories, the newest Moriarty adaptation — Peacock’s “Apples Never Fall” — is centered on a suspenseful mystery, but showrunner Melanie Marnich was just as interested in what the author had to say about the complexities of family dynamics.
“You have to know these people love each other, otherwise they can’t cause each other pain,” Marnich told Variety at an early screening event for the series. “There’s a phrase in [Moriarty’s] book that’s something like: ‘You can love somebody and hate somebody. Alison Brie’s character Amy in “Apples Never Fall” does not operate like your typical eldest sibling. She lacks a steady source of income, is emotionally erratic and her housing situation is one shared with a group of graduate students.
But as the Peacock limited series’ third episode shows, she’s also perhaps the only Delaney with a healthy amount of emotional intelligence.

Australian author Liane Moriarty is known for her layered characters, complex family dynamics, and intriguing mysteries. After the success of her book-to-screen adaptation of Big Little Lies on HBO in 2017, she's been in high demand.
In 2021, Hulu adapted another novel, Nine Perfect Strangers, which expanded on the characters' arcs from the book. It became a hit because of the humor in the series.

Apples Never Fall missed an opportunity with its release schedule on Peacock, which saw all seven episodes dropping at once. With a central mystery at its core, Apples Never Fall would have benefited from a weekly release plan. The Peacock show's cliffhangers are perfectly set up to keep viewers tuning in and talking about the series for a while.
Apples Never Fall missed a huge opportunity with its streaming release plan, as a different model would have greatly benefited the Peacock show. The series adapts Liane Moriarty's best-selling book of the same name, blending a mysterious missing-persons case with a gripping family drama. Covering two timelines, it tells the story of Joy Delaney's disappearance. The past storyline shows the events leading up to the Delaney matriarch's sudden departure — including the arrival of a suspicious young woman — while the present-day plot follows her husband and kids as they grapple with her absence.
