In previous articles, we have taken a look at stars of the past we would like to see make a comeback – and there are a lot of them! It was too hard to narrow it down to just a few, so now we’ve put together another list of 80s stars we want back, including a couple of Freddy victims, some 1980s beauties we miss, and a lady we’ve only seen twice on our screens.

Calling all Latino filmmakers, John Travolta wants to work with you. Swinging by Panama to present his 1978 musical rom-com “Grease” at the 12th Panama International Film Festival (Iff Panama), Travolta professed his great love for “Mexico, Central America, South America, all of its parts.”
“There is an incredible humanity that prevails and is different from anywhere else in the world,” he told Variety.
Surprised to hear that Robert de Niro had starred in the Argentine series “Nada,” Travolta exclaimed: “I would have loved that, I would have enjoyed being lured to South America to play a part for a while.”
The closest he’s come to working with a Latino director was with Alfonso Cuarón, who produced the short film streaming on Disney+ “The Shepherd,” based on Frederick Forsyth’s 1975 novella, which follows a young Royal Air Force pilot flying home for Christmas across the North Sea. When the pilot...

This past winter, she had a normal mammogram, and two months later, she found out she had breast cancer.
“In the past ten months I have had four surgeries, so many days spent in bed I can’t even count and have learned more about cancer, cancer treatment and hormones than I ever could have imagined,” she wrote. “Surprisingly, I’ve only cried twice. Exclusive: Indie filmmakers Courtney Stephens and Michael Almereyda are teaming to direct a new documentary about controversial scientist John C. Lilly, Deadline has learned.
Funded by a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the project will look at the countercultural figure’s work as the inventor of the isolation tank, as well as his pioneering studies of dolphin intelligence and support of psychedelics as a positive means for expanding consciousness. The storytelling will be supported by interviews with Lilly’s contemporaries and colleagues, as well as extensive archival records.
Stephens was drawn to Lilly, having grown up near Marine World in the Bay Area, where the scientist worked with trained dolphins and computers in the early 1980s, hoping to teach the animals an Esperanto-like language that would allow for interspecies communication. Apple donated equipment to the lab, which was visited by figures ranging from Ram Dass to Olivia Newton John.

Elvis Presley isn’t often considered a gospel singer, but he delved into the genre many times. A reporter said one of his later songs reconnected the singer to his background in gospel music. Afterward, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll discussed his childhood experiences in church and his musical tastes.
Elvis Presley loved gospel music as well as opera, Mexican music, and Spanish music
During a 1977 interview with the Hot Press, a reporter said performing “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” brought Elvis back to his roots in gospel music. The reporter asked if Elvis started singing gospel music. “Yeah,” the “Hound Dog” singer replied. “I’ve always liked music. My mother and dad both loved to sing. And they did tell me that when I was about three or four years old I got away from them in church and walked in front of the choir and started beating time.

Elton John‘s “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” features a baffling reggae breakdown. John Lennon added that section to “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” himself. In an interview, the former Beatle discussed why he worked with the “Your Song” singer. Shockingly, the aforementioned cover of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” was a much bigger hit than The Beatles’ version.
Why John Lennon played on Elton John’s cover of ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’
“Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” is many things, but it doesn’t have much of a Caribbean vibe. That’s why adding a reggae section to the track feels so incongruous. It’s even stranger when you learn it was the “Imagine” singer’s idea.

London – A psychedelic eye mosaic commissioned by John Lennon for the swimming pool at his Kenwood home in Surrey in 1965 leads Bonhams’ Rock, Pop & Film sale on Wednesday 29 November at Knightsbridge, London.
Claire Tole-Moir, Bonhams Head of Popular Culture in London, commented: “This monumental mosaic, commissioned by John Lennon is a striking example of the Beatle’s artistic vision and influences. Lennon’s Kenwood home in the English countryside was a place of respite from all the public attention he experienced during the height of The Beatles’ popularity. It’s said Lennon would spend idle hours near the swimming pool and that the mosaic could even be seen from his favoured ‘sunroom’ at the top of the house. With Kenwood still under private ownership, it is very rare to see anything from when John Lennon lived there, making the ‘Psychedelic Eye’ mosaic an incredibly important artefact of Beatles history.”

Just weeks after she died, Olivia Newton-John made her presence felt out of the blue. Well, more like, in blue form.
While speaking to People on the one-year anniversary of Newton-John’s death, the “Grease” star’s daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, and widower, John Easterling, shared the eerie way the late actress has kept a “supernatural” promise she made years ago.
“Two weeks after she passed my phone accidentally took a picture of my dog, and there floating by his head was a little blue orb, the same color as this,” said Lattanzi, 37, while pointing to an aquamarine pendant necklace gifted to her by her late mother before she died. “Mom and I had talked years back. We’d watch these paranormal shows, and I’d say, ‘You gotta show up for me.’ And she was like, ‘I’ll show up as one of those orb things.'”

When country singer Chris Young heard a demo of a new song in consideration for his next album, he didn’t need a rock encyclopedia to identify a key part of it. “This song started and I said, ‘That’s the lick from ‘Rebel Rebel,’” Young recalls. “I immediately knew what it was. I wouldn’t say that I’ve exhausted David Bowie’s catalog, but that one is instantly recognizable.”
But Young wasn’t being pitched a remake of Bowie’s 1974 glam-stomper. He was listening to “Young Love & Saturday Nights,...

“Many, many times Sinead was full of a terrible loneliness and a terrible despair. She was a very good friend of mine,” he said. We were talking right up to a couple of weeks ago. Some of her texts were laden with desperation and despair and some were ecstatically happy. She was like that.

George Harrison made his way into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame despite not having much support from his Beatles bandmates or producer George Martin. The so-called quiet Beatle made it as a member of the Fab Four and a solo artist. George’s friend Jeff Lynne made it to the Rock Hall with his group Electric Light Orchestra, but he beat Harrison into another musical hall of fame.

The Rolling Stones‘ “Start Me Up” is one of the classic songs from the 1980s. Despite this, an Olivia Newton-John song prevented “Start Me Up” from hitting No. 1. This was a travesty.
Olivia Newton-John’s ‘Physical’ overshadowed The Rolling Stones’ ‘Start Me Up’
“Start Me Up” became a huge hit for The Rolling Stones. The tune reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, staying on the chart for a total of 24 weeks. None of the band’s other hits lasted as long on the chart.
Newton-John’s “Physical” was also a big hit at the same time. The track reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a staggering 10 weeks. Newton-John had many big hits during her time in the limelight, and “Physical” was the biggest by a longshot. According to the 2013 book 50 Licks: Myths and Stories from Half a Century of The Rolling Stones, “Physical” prevented “Start Me Up” from reaching No.

If you’re a Grease fan who saw the original film in the theater back in the day and has fond memories of singing We Go Together on your way out of the theater, you may want to skip the following sentence: Believe it or not, the iconic movie adaptation of the stage musical opened in theaters 45 years ago. Of course, back in 1978, the movie was set in the past, so it had a feel of sentimentality to it — well, at least until Olivia Newton-John’s stunning transformation at the end. But Didi Conn, who played Frenchy in the film, says that even with the film now set more than six decades in the past, the story still has plenty of relevance in 2023. (Click on the media bar below to hear Didi Conn) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Didi-Conn_Grease_Rev.mp3 Grease is currently streaming on Max and available on DVD,...

One of the very, very few topics that virtually every film and TV fan can agree on is that “Grease” is fantastic. The 1978 musical — which stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as two high schoolers who find their summer romance tested by the social dynamics at Rydell High School — is the kind of timeless, feel-good entertainment that’s virtually impossible to dislike.
The film rode the wave of 1950s nostalgia that swept the nation in the ’70s (see: “Happy Days” and “American Grafitti”) to become one of the most recognizable films ever made. An incredible songbook that includes all-timers, from the “Summer Nights” solo and “You’re the One That I Want” duet to Frankie Avalon’s dreamy “Beauty School Dropout,” make it the sort of film that you can rewatch any time, anywhere and almost always enjoy yourself.
How do you put your own spin on a property that’s so beloved?...

Juliana Hatfield has announced a new addition to her series of covers albums. Juliana Hatfield Sings Elo drops November 17th via American Laundromat Records, while her rendition of “Don’t Bring Me Down” is out now.
As indie rock royalty, it may come as a surprise that Hatfield would enjoy the pop stylings of Electric Light Orchestra. Yet you could easily trace her inarguably catchy music to the band’s melodies. “Elo songs were always coming on the radio when I was growing up. They were a reliable source of pleasure and fascination,” Hatfield said in a statement. “With this album of covers I wanted to get my hands deep into some of the massive ‘70’s hits but I am also shining a light on some of the later work… My task was to try and break all the things down and reconstruct them subtly until they felt like mine.

Paramount+'s 2023 series "Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies" serves as a prequel to the hit 1978 film. The musical series follows Jane (Marisa Davila), Olivia (Cheyenne Isabel Wells), Cynthia (Ari Notartomaso), and Nancy (Tricia Fukuhara) as they form the girl gang the Pink Ladies in 1954. In "Grease," which is set in 1958, Sandy (played by the late Olivia Newton-John) is befriended by the Pink Ladies clique when she becomes a student at Rydell High, though Betty Rizzo, Frenchy, Jan, and Marty are all different levels of welcoming toward her.
How does "Rise of the Pink Ladies" connect to the original "Grease"? Well, of course, the new Pink Ladies and T-Birds attend the same high school that the original characters do. In the movie, Rydell High is run by Principal McGee, played by the late Eve Arden, but in "Rise of the Pink Ladies," she's Assistant Principal McGee, played pitch-perfectly by comedic icon Jackie Hoffman.

Music fans can thank Eurovision for launching the careers of Abba, Celine Dion, Olivia Newton-John and Måneskin. Have you ever watched a movie and realized it was instantly going to be part of your personality? Last weekend at a midnight screening of Xanadu, I thought I was merely filling a critical hole in my gay camp movie repertoire. The Olivia Newton John 1980 roller skating musical was a bomb when it first opened. Yet, through hit songs like “Magic” and “Xanadu,” the film hung around long enough to become a cult classic. Obviously the term “roller skating musical” doesn’t inspire much confidence in a film’s storytelling prowess. Xanadu isn’t a “so bad it’s good” curio piece. Instead, it’s an ambitious, messy, misunderstood masterpiece about the ebbs and flow of art and taste...

The lead stars of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies made an appearance at Deadline’s Contenders Television awards-season event to talk about their experiences on the musical.
Marisa Davila, who plays Jane Facciano in the Paramount+ series, said she might have been a little too young to have watched the 1978 film for the first time, but most of its themes were going over her head.
“Considering it’s a period piece, it really hasn’t gone too much out of style,” Davila said. “I’ve definitely known the music longer than I can even remember the first time I saw it.”
Davila added: “I don’t really know if you meet a lot of people that haven’t seen Grease these days. We’re just adding to the history of that universe and, I mean, what an honor. We’re just really grateful that this is a project that...

When John Farrar turned up to a movie set at dawn clutching a demo of his hastily written “emergency song”, he didn’t have high hopes. The call had only come in the previous day, crying out for a last-minute number to plug a hole in the musical score for when the greaser with heart gets the good girl turned bad. Farrar hadn’t exactly been inspired in scratching it together – “desperate is probably the word”, he says. The director took one listen and hated it, but the last-day-of-school shot was already set up and they were all out of options. A choreographer threw together a dance routine on the spot. The scene went in the can inside seven hours, and so wrapped this hokey teen musical presumably bound for oblivion.
