Bill Pullman probably isn’t the first actor you’d think would be cast to portray a drug-addicted sociopath who is convicted of killing his wife Maggie and son Paul, as he does playing Alex Murdaugh in the Lifetime two-part docudrama “Murdaugh Murders: The Movie.” This is, after all the same guy who played the heroic President of the U.S. in the 1996 blockbuster “Independence Day,” and his impressive career has found him playing an assortment of characters similarly defined by their inherent decency. This is also a man who has been married for 37 years – to the same woman. Not that Pullman necessarily sees himself as having a brand. “Everybody says, ‘Oh, you do’,” he admits. “But I think I’m available for (the whole of) human behavior. And it’s nice to live on the other side every once in a while.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Bill Pullman thinks he was the last person on earth who hadn’t heard of Alex Murdaugh, the personal injury attorney who was found guilty in the double homicide of his wife, Maggie, and son Paul.
Fortunately for the veteran actor, there was gobs of video to help him prepare for his role in Murdaugh Murders: The Movie for Lifetime’s ripped-from-the-headlines slate of movies last fall.
“South Carolina allows video in courtroom. There was hours and hours of behavior, that 911 call, the body cam of the first officer arriving on the scene,” Pullman recalled Saturday at Deadline TV Contenders. “It’s really interesting about real transcripts. You realize how sociopaths have this cauterized morality. The way they are moving through a sentence. They talk one way at the beginning at the sentence and then they sense there is somewhere better to go. You would never write that as a writer.

Lifetime is known for its original 'Ripped From the Headlines' movies that retell the events that grip the nation and even the world.
If you have ever seen one, you know it can be challenging to get over the low-budget production and corny writing, but that's part of their addiction.
They tend to get filmed quickly, air quickly, and hire people looking to make a breakthrough acting debut.
However, the astonishing cases they feature are the ones that had a stranglehold over the media for their horrifying uniqueness, and the ones we recommend have some surprisingly big names.
These movies somehow come together in a way that makes them 'so bad, they're good,' just like the breeds of dogs that are 'so ugly, they're cute.'
No matter which side of the fence you may land on, here are the Lifetime movies that genuinely hit the mark.

Patricia Arquette didn’t lose sleep over her nude scenes from David Lynch’s 1997 psychological erotic thriller “Lost Highway.”
Arquette, who played two separate roles — 1) an adulterer cheating on her jazz-musician husband (Bill Pullman), and 2) a temptress seducing a mechanic (Balthazar Getty) — said during Series Mania (via Variety) that she found a strip scene in the film “terrifying.” Arquette credited Lynch for scolding crew members who made “gross” comments ahead of filming her nude sequences.
“I was so extremely modest: I would take a bath in the dark,” Arquette said. “The scene when my character had to strip was terrifying to me. Some of the guys were saying crude things and I told David, ‘I am not comfortable – they are saying gross things.’ He said, ‘You read the script.'”
As Arquette recalled, Lynch immediately switched to, “Wait, who said what?”

Oscar-winning actress Patricia Arquette chaired a career masterclass this afternoon at Series Mania in Lille, France, where she served as this year’s guest of honor.
Topics up for discussion during the session ranged from Arquette’s childhood growing up on a “hippie” commune with her parents in rural Virginia alongside her career as an actress, working with filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Richard Linklater, and David Lynch.
“He gives you a lot of freedom,” Arquette said of Lynch, whom she worked with on his 1997 surrealist feature Lost Highway.
Lynch’s Lost Highway, like many of his films of the 90s, is a project focused on gender, sexuality, and sensuality. In the pic — which also stars Bill Pullman — Arquette’s character is involved in a prolonged nude scene. “There was one piece of advice that meant a lot to me when I was president,” said Goldwyn of his years on a White House set when the series ran from 2012-2018. He then pulled out a performance from his days on the Kerry Washington series: “Tell them that you exist for them. Tell them that they make you a better man.”

Michael Douglas, Geena Davis, Bill Pullman, Morgan Freeman and Tony Goldwyn appear in a new White House video in which the real president, Joe Biden, gets State of the Union advice from the fictional ones.
The video is a preview and promotion for Biden’s State of the Union speech this evening. It was produced by the White House Office of Digital Strategy, and was shot last weekend at Camp David.
“You may’ve heard I’ve got a big speech coming up. So, I thought I would hear from some folks who have done the job before – sort of,” Biden said on X/Twitter.

Hollywood star Mark Ruffalo went down memory lane and recalled his humble beginnings when he was waiting tables and had to travel everywhere by his budget motorbike that he would fix himself whenever it broke down.
“I couldn’t afford a car. I had a $250 1974 Honda XR250 that I could personally work on when it broke down that was the only way I could get around LA. I was living in a closet for $200. My whole nut was about $300 a month,” he said on the “SmartLess” podcast.
On the years it took him to get a foot in the door in Hollywood, he said: “It was a very slow progression. There’s really no reason that I should have tried as long as I did because that was from 18 to 28.”
Ruffalo was fired from the play that would have supposedly launched his career.

It was reported earlier that Steven Yeun was set to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Thunderbolts film. Unfortunately, scheduling issues that cropped up due to last year’s dual strikes in Hollywood would now prevent Yeun from participating in filming. The actor felt remorse for the dilemma and wanted to make it clear that he hopes to join the MCU in the future, “I wanna do a Marvel movie. I have some ideas.” Yeun would also apologize to the fans for holding up the production, “It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out.” Deadline is now reporting that Top Gun: Maverick‘s Lewis Pullman is now in talks with Marvel Studios to be Yeun’s replacement. Pullman, the son of Independence Day star Bill Pullman, can currently...

Lewis Pullman may be getting a jolt, courtesy of Marvel Studios. The Top Gun: Maverick actor is Marvel’s top choice to star in Thunderbolts, and has an offer for the role vacated by Steven Yeun earlier this month.
Marvel and reps for Pullman did not respond to requests for comment.
Yeun was attached to Thunderbolts in February 2023, though Marvel did not officially announce his casting. But on Jan. 2, news broke that the Oscar-nominated actor was departing the project centering on Marvel’s villains and antiheroes.
Thunderbolts was hit by delays due to the writers and actors strikes of 2023, with its release date pushed a year to July 25, 2025. The film has a cast that includes Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Jake Schreier is directing the feature, which has not yet begun filming.

“Glynis powered her way through life with intelligence, wit, and a love for performance, affecting millions of lives,” Clem said in a statement. “She entered my life early in my career and set a very high bar on how to navigate this industry with grace, class, and truth. Your own truth. Her light shined very brightly for 100 years. She had a wit that could stop you in your tracks powered by a heart that loved deeply and purely. Today is a somber day for Hollywood. Wes Craven is gone but not forgotten. The soft-spoken horror auteur began his career as an English teacher at Westminster College in the 1960s. But in 1972, he burst onto the film scene with the low-budget shocker "The Last House on the Left." The film's disturbing subject matter alienated many viewers and critics, although some awarded the pic praise. Roger Ebert wrote: "Wes Craven's direction never lets us out from under almost unbearable dramatic tension." Craven found the overall experience negative and wanted to move away from horror movies. However, Craven's scripts outside the horror genre never garnered much interest, and so he returned to the world of horror with 1977's "The Hills Have Eyes." Now firmly established as a horror filmmaker, Craven would continue with the genre for the rest of his career. Craven died in 2015, but his legacy lives on. Below, we've ranked 8 of the filmmaker's best movies.

Yes, this 1995 romcom is completely ridiculous – but try not being charmed by Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman
While You Were Sleeping is the feelgood movie I always find myself revisiting at this time of year. It is kind of ridiculous – but it is also funny, charming and utterly determined to lift your spirits.
Lucy Moderatz (Sandra Bullock) works as a token collector for the Chicago L train. Having lost her father the previous year, and with no family to speak of, she agrees to work over Christmas. Lucy has a crush on Peter (Peter Gallagher), a handsome commuter, who passes her kiosk every day in a whirlwind of perfect hair and 90s post-yuppie business attire.

Romantic comedies with a holiday or Christmas theme have always been enjoyable. There’s a certain flair to them. If you haven't tuned into Lifetime's Murdaugh Murders: The Movie event, you're missing out on a scintillating depiction of one of the century's most heinous crimes.
And you've also deprived yourself of a remarkable performance by the acclaimed Bill Pullman, who we reiterate was truly transformative in the role.
The Murdaugh murder trial gripped the nation and sparked multiple documentaries.
It only seemed fitting that such a notorious case would not only appear on Lifetime's True Crime slate but also that the two-part movie event helmed by one of the finest actors of our time would serve as the network's milestone 500th original film over three decades.
The two-part movie event, and especially Pullman's performance, stick with you and should be on everyone's radar.

Ripped From the Headlines stories are baked into Lifetime's DNA, but the network's fall movie lineup came with an additional promise: that of "truly unbelievable" drama. Every weekend since mid-September, Lifetime has aired a "Truly Unbelievable Movie" dramatizing the circumstances surrounding shocking murders, harrowing kidnappings, and one high-profile prison break, with big names like Bill Pullman, Melissa Joan Hart, and Luke Macfarlane playing the real people at the center of each case. While a few of these films focus on older crimes, most of them capitalize on recent cases (including Murdaugh Murders: The Movie and Bad Romance: The Vicky White Story) or pop culture moments — Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix plays a police officer in Buying Back My Daughter — making them a bit more relevant than the average Lifetime original movie.

After churning out countless movies that claimed to be inspired by true events without any real-life references backing up these claims, Lifetime has finally gotten its hands on the infamous murder trial that ruined the legacy of the Murdaugh family. Alex Murdaugh’s rap sheet, however, is too vast to be contained within the span of two movies, one following the events leading up to the murders, and the next staying close to the investigation and the trial. Despite Bill Pullman pulling his weight as the wicked Alex Murdaugh, the narrative style and pacing in Murdaugh Murders aren’t nearly steady enough to hold the gigantic mess he had made of his life. What the two films do pull off is still managing to manipulate your speculations, even though what you’re watching is, for the most part, what actually happened.

Despite the ongoing conversations around “Nepo babies,” actors like Lewis Pullman are proof that takes excellence to stay on top. He doesn’t just share a last name with veteran American actor Bill Pullman; Lewis is the actor’s first child and son. Lewis has shown his passion for acting isn’t merely an extension of that of his father. Lewis Pullman’s acting career may only have begun in 2017, but he has starred in several notable movies. With most of his acting credits in film and their successes, Pullman’s total box-office earnings have surpassed many actors who began before him. Excluding productions...

As the saying goes, "You can't help who you love."
But it's always difficult to process or fully understand loving someone so much that it results in scandal and tragedy.
While Bad Romance: The Vicky White Story is based on that scandalous Bonnie & Clyde, starcrossed lovers romance between a correctional officer and a convicted felon, at the very heart of the film, it was about this woman who felt displaced and swallowed up whole by life.
Vicky's story is sad, well before her untimely death by suicide.
While it's not Wendi McLendon-Covey's first foray into a more dramatic role, it's always a jolt to the system to see her play such a serious role.
The transformation of this lively actress into this exceedingly drab but wry middle-aged woman with not much to lose is fascinating in its own right.

The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering The Grudge (2004) was Written and Narrated by Adam Walton, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
If there was one thing the early noughties had in an abundance, especially within the horror genre, it was remakes. We were graced with reboots, or re-imaginings, whatever you want to call them, of the likes of Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead, The Hills Have Eyes, The Amityville Horror, House of Wax, Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake from 2007 and The Ring. However, despite the decent quality of those examples, well most of them, one thing that stands out in the film we’re focusing on today, The Grudge (watch it Here), is the fact that the original’s director, Takashi Shimizu, chose to also take on the remake. In 2002 the aforementioned The Ring,...

After John Carpenter made "Halloween" in 1978, the director wasn't terribly interested in making a sequel. When it came time to write the screenplay for "Halloween II," however, a reluctant Carpenter sat in front of his typewriter, hammered on beers, kind of at a loss as to where this story was going to go. It was only by mere creative desperation that Carpenter conceived of the notion that Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) was secretly Michael Myers' sister.
In the first "Halloween," Michael Myers was played by various actors, although mostly by Nick Castle, an old friend of Carpenter's and a film director in his own right. In "Halloween II," Michael was played by a stuntman named Dick Warlock, an experienced performer who appeared in films like "The Love Bug" (he drove Herbie), "Blazing Saddles," and Carpenter's "Escape from New York."

A babymoon is supposed to be a relaxing pre-birth break, but it looks set to take on a very different meaning on You're Not Supposed to Be Here.
The Lifetime movie will debut on Saturday, November 4, at 8/7c, and the first trailer is insane.
Chrishell Stause stars opposite Diora Baird, with the pair playing a couple whose babymoon to a remote mountain town is anything but peaceful.
The movie came from a concept by Lauren Caster, who won The WrapWomen and Lifetime PitchFest for Emerging Female Filmmakers in 2021 as part of Lifetime's Broader Focus initiative that supports female creatives.
"When pregnant lesbian couple Zoe and Kennedy struggle with the stress of work and family life, Kennedy's boss offers them a cabin getaway in the woods," the logline teases.
"When they arrive at the beautiful cabin located in a remote mountain town, the locals aren't all overly welcoming," Lifetime adds.

Watch out! This post contains spoilers.
We need to talk about Lewis Pullman in "Lessons in Chemistry." I didn't know what to expect when I first sat down to watch the series. I had not read the bestselling book that the Apple TV+ series was based on but knew it was mostly about a woman (Brie Larson's Elizabeth) dealing with sexism during her career in science. She eventually becomes a TV personality with a cooking show, as her love of chemistry and cooking go hand in hand.
Once I did start to watch, I fell almost instantly for the show. It mixes drama, romance, comedy, and science all together into something one-of-a-kind. It uses its period setting to tell a complicated story that still resonates today, and it gives Larson (an Oscar winner) a messy and complicated character to work with.

Bill Pullman is such a talent.
It's challenging to capture the essence of a person people have become familiar with during such a high-profile trial.
But without a shadow of a doubt, Bill Pullman slays his role, and we get to see more of his range and his capabilities during Murdaugh Murders Part 2.
It's nothing short of riveting to watch his interpretation of Alex Murdaugh, and he kicked it up a notch during part two of this movie event.
While the timeline of Murdaugh Murders Part 1 had a lot of heavy lifting to do as far as setting the pace for how the family seemed before everything fell apart and just what started kicking matters into gear with Paul, we had a tighter time frame to work with which made the pacing significantly better and more intense.

To even begin to unravel the puzzling, disturbing tragedy that is the Murdaugh Murders, it starts and ends with legacy.
Lifetime's latest in their Ripped From the Headlines True Crime slate, Murdaugh Murders: The Movie, is inarguably its strongest yet.
Bill Pullman is utterly transformative in the role of Alex Murdaugh, from the mannerisms and diction to his cadence, reminding us yet again of why he's one of the greatest actors of our time.
There is something unique about Murdaugh Murders Part 1: It feels distinctly different from Lifetime's usual fare in style and execution.
The tone is different without a shadow of a doubt, somehow edging away from the usual "TV movie" formula, and it wouldn't be the least bit surprising if this mini-series event earned itself some recognition.

Based on the best-selling novel by Bonnie Garmus, “Lessons in Chemistry” combines science and cooking in a great experiment. Larson also executive produced the Apple TV+ drama series, whose showrunner is Lee Eisenberg. The first two episodes landed Friday, October 13, and the show will end right before Thanksgiving, an appropriate holiday for cooking! New episodes will be released weekly on Fridays at midnight, Pacific time. Lewis Pullman may be known for his acting projects and being the son of actor Bill Pullman, but not much is known about his personal life. Pullman rarely discusses his romances in interviews and he doesn't have an Instagram page either.
He has, however, had one public relationship with Andie MacDowell's daughter, Rainey Qualley. The pair began dating in September 2020 and made their red carpet debut as a couple at the "Top Gun: Maverick" premiere in May 2022. Qualley also gave fans a glimpse of their relationship on Instagram, sharing a few touching tributes to him for special occasions, though they have since appeared to go their separate ways.

This article contains mild spoilers for "The Exorcist: Believer."
In William Friedkin's 1973 adaptation of William Peter Blatty's "The Exorcist," the film opens not on the possession of 12-year-old Regan MacNeil, but on Catholic priest and archaeologist Father Merrin (Max von Sydow), who is on a dig in Northern Iraq. He comes across a medallion of Saint Joseph, as well as an idol representing the demon Pazuzu. Fans of the film "The Exorcist II: The Heretic" will know that this is representative of the demon that will later possess Regan. According to Babylonian and Assyrian myth, Pazuzu is a wind demon, and his presence in the opening indicates that Merrin has dealt with Pazuzu before.
But with this desert setting, this scene also implies that there's something foreign — other, about this statue and medallion. Almost as if the intrusion of artifacts from the Middle East is truly responsible for...
