Dark Winds is an enjoyable if fairly standard cop drama based on the novels of Tony Hillerman. The chalk and cheese partners Police Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and FBI agent Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) investigate a series of apparently unrelated crimes. What sets it apart from the crowd is the setting and period: the Navajo Nation of the 1970s.
The action kicks off with a violent bank raid. The thieves make off in a chopper and are flying in the direction of the Navajo Nation when it disappears. FBI agent Leland Whitover (Noah Emmerich) charges Leaphorn with investigating. He also arranges to have Chee seconded into the police force in order to keep an eye on things.
Despite the somewhat formulaic plot - the twist and turns are what you would expect and where you would expect them - the pacing of the narrative makes Dark Winds very watchable.

Movie actors can surprise audiences by delivering stellar performances outside their usual typecast roles. Margot Robbie broke free from her soap opera background and impressed everyone with her brilliant performance in I, Tonya, earning her first Oscar nomination. Adam Sandler proved his acting chops in Reign Over Me, playing a grief-stricken character and showing a different side of his talent.
Sometimes, an actor performs in a movie in a way that completely changes how people view them. Whether it's an actor traditionally known for comedic roles putting in a star performance in a drama or a clean-cut star giving a gritty portrayal of an evil character, cinema history has countless examples. It might surprise people just how many there are.
Movie watchers can quickly judge actors and assume they're one-trick ponies — especially if their roles have indeed been similar up to a point — but people should keep an open mind.

Jim Carrey is incredibly quotable in The Truman Show, but he doesn't have the only memorable lines in the movie. The best The Truman Show quotes include some hilarious one-liners from Carrey and the rest of the cast, but also moments that explore the deeper philosophical meaning of Truman's fake life in Seahaven. Ed Harris as Christof, Natasha Elkhorn as Sylvia, and Laura Linney as Meryl all have some incredibly quotable lines in The Truman Show as Truman slowly learns about his fake world and life as unknowing star of a reality TV show.
The best The Truman Show quotes highlight the movie's clever, funny and thought-provoking central concept. Jim Carrey stars as Truman Burbank, a man living a seemingly perfect life in an idyllic town. This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon episode 5.
Through 11 seasons of The Walking Dead and its countless spinoffs, the zombie franchise’s version of the undead have remained stubbornly static. In keeping with comic creator Robert Kirkman’s original vision, Walking Dead zombies have followed the traditional George A. Romero rules for reanimated corpses. That is to say that the show’s titular walkers were slow, unintelligent, and driven by only a vague notion of hunger.
Of course, that’s all started to change of late (as tends to happen when you have more than a decade of storytelling to fill). The final season of The Walking Dead introduced zombies that could climb ladders and turn doorknobs. The lore-heavy post-credit scene of The Walking Dead: World Beyond suggested that French scientists were aware of (or even complicit in the creation of) “variant cohorts” of the undead. The...

Something about the post-apocalyptic genre really lends itself to the “Lone Wolf and Cub” trope. As Dark Winds reaches its Season 2 finale, the future of the series remains unclear, but executive producer Chris Eyre is optimistic about a third season.

Eyre explained how there is still a plethora of source material to draw from for inspiration moving into Season 3, adding that Dark Winds even still has yet to hit its "stride." Eyre then shared how he wants to see what happens next with these characters just as much as the fans.

I remember going to the movie theater in 1998 to see “The Truman Show” for the first time and being blown away. It was the scariest non-horror film I’d ever seen up to that point (and maybe still), showing us a world of utter consumerism and commodification and its horrific impact on a man who didn’t know he was born to literally be a reality show. It seemed inconceivable that something like what happens to Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) could really occur. This was, after all, the era before we started carrying around smartphones and mini computers in our pocket, before anything called Facebook and Twitter and Instagram and years before even MySpace came into being – and before we were all deputized as amateur filmmakers thanks to the still camera and video we keep with us and use to publish sometimes hourly.

Fields reminded his colleagues that Superstorm Sandy made a surprise guest appearance in “The Americans” pilot, turning the production schedule upside down just before they were scheduled to begin shooting the pilot for DreamWorks Television and Fox Television Studios.
Having to pivot quickly in the face of an unexpected challenge helped Fields and Weisberg bond as producers.

Apple TV+ thriller “Suspicion” is set to hit the sales block in Cannes at this year’s MipTV market.
Keshet International has revealed that the eight-part series starring Uma Thurman will headline its drama slate at the spring TV market in France, which kicks off on April 17. The Israeli TV distributor will shop linear rights for the series.
Apple TV+ commissioned Keshet U.K. to produce “Suspicion,” which is based on the popular Israeli series “False Flag” and launched on the service in February 2022. Its sales foray marks one of the rare instances where an original on a streamer (that’s still available globally on the platform) has been sold on the open market for linear rights.
In recent years, major SVODs have been focused on keeping originals on their own platforms for extensive periods in order to drive subscribers. However, in this case, it’s Keshet International that holds...

One of the first things that come to mind about James Mangold's 1997 crime drama "Cop Land" is its stacked cast — and how some of them played against type. Sylvester Stallone, Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, and Robert De Niro were just the tip of the macho iceberg in a who's-who ensemble of stars and familiar character actors. There was also Peter Berg, Janeane Garofalo, Robert Patrick, Michael Rapaport, Annabella Sciorra, Noah Emmerich, and Malik Yoba -- the list goes on and on. Even smaller roles utilized notable Martin Scorsese alumni like Cathy Moriarty and Frank Vincent, and future "The Sopranos" stars Edie Falco and Tony Sirico (the latter of whom only appears in a surveillance photo). This was the movie that put "Rocky" and "Raging Bull" in the ring together and had Stallone gain 40 pounds to play a half-deaf sheriff in a New Jersey town populated by corrupt cops.

Jim Carrey's 1998 film "The Truman Show" continues to be his best movie, even 25 years after it was made. It predicted the reality television craze and America's obsession with the lives of others years before social media and shows like "Big Brother" and "The Real Housewives" took over television. Wow, was it accurate! In 2015 there were a whopping 750 reality TV shows on the air during primetime.
In a world where shows like "Milf Manor" exist, a concept like "The Truman Show" is no longer far-fetched or satirical but something considered very possible. In addition to reality TV, every day, YouTubers and Twitch streamers are making millions documenting their own lives online. The only reason we haven't seen a program like "The Truman Show" is that Hollywood found a way to produce reality TV cheaper than it would cost to fabricate an entire town.

Glenn's death during The Walking Dead season 7 premiere secretly hid a season 1 callback. The Walking Dead season 6 introduced the Saviors, ruled over by their charismatic leader, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). After the season 6 finale, many were left wondering which survivors Negan brutally killed during his intense first scene in the series, with the season 7 premiere revealing Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Glenn (Steven Yeun) had met their tragic ends at the hands of Negan. Also coded within Glenn and Abraham's final episode was an emotional season 1 throwback.

However one feels about 11 seasons of The Walking Dead (and the many spinoffs to come), it’s hard to deny that its pilot is a thrilling hour of television.
“Days Gone Bye,” which first aired on Halloween night 2010, adapts the first issue of Robert Kirkman’s zombie comic of the same name on a nearly panel-by-panel basis, following Kentucky sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) as he wakes up from a coma in a hospital to a world overrun by the dead. The suddenness of it all is a real treat for viewers as they’re taken aback and given the opportunity to discover a terrifying new post-apocalyptic reality right alongside Rick.
Given that The Walking Dead as a television franchise is now more than 12 years old, has three spinoffs to its name, and several more to come (The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon to start...

Norman Reedus has revealed one Daryl Dixon storyline he wished to change from The Walking Dead. Fans connected with the crossbow wielder since his first appearance in the show's premiere season. Daryl's laidback style, tracking expertise, and great fighting skills poised the character to become a major member of the group right from the start. Daryl proved himself one of the most iconic characters of the show during The Walking Dead's 11 seasons, leading fans to coin the phrase "If Daryl Dies, We Riot." With Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) exit from The Walking Dead season 9, Daryl became the main character of the show, garnering even more favor with the fans and leading the character to his own spinoff after the end of the series.

This article may contain spoilers for The Walking Dead's series finale.
Since its 2003 inception, Robert Kirkman's comic book series The Walking Dead has spawned into an incredibly lucrative franchise of television shows, video games, and toys. One of the most successful installments is AMC's live-action series The Walking Dead.
Debuting in 2010, the apocalypse drama was laid to rest in 2022 after eleven seasons. As the main show is officially over with countless spinoffs to follow, fans will be eager to rewatch the series from the beginning. Alas, this epic rewatch wouldn't be complete without a few harsh realities.

One of the harshest realities of rewatching The Walking Dead was The revelation of the walkers coming to prominence. This confession would come from Dr. Edwin Jenner (Noah Emmerich) to Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) moments before the Center for Disease Control exploded in the season 1 finale "Ts-19".

The Good Nurse is based on the prolific serial killer Charles Cullen and his friend who got him arrested, Amy Loughren, but the movie doesn't mention much about what happened to Loughren after Cullen’s arrest. Starring Eddie Redmayne as Charles Cullen and Jessica Chastain as Amy Loughren, The Good Nurse adds to Netflix’s list of true-crime movies and shows by delving into the dark crimes of Charles Cullen. Straying from the usual focus on the serial killer, The Good Nurse is based on Amy Loughren, her life and family, her friendship with Cullen, and her involvement in his arrest. The Good Nurse is entirely from Loughren’s perspective as it is not just based on Cullen’s crimes but on the 2013 true-crime book The Good Nurse by Charles Graeber, and supported by the documentary Capturing The Killer Nurse.

"Based on a true story." No five words in cinema have been abused more than those that have opened so many movies. "The Good Nurse" is one of them. Netflix's latest true crime drama is based on the 2013 book by Charles Graeber and documents Charles Cullen, a nurse who murdered patients from 1988 to 2003 by injecting insulin and/or digoxin into IV bags.
Eddie Redmayne plays Cullen in the film, but he's not the lead. That would be his friend and co-worker, Amy Louhgren (Jessica Chastain). She has a good heart, albeit one afflicted with cardiomyopathy, and so comes to rely on "Charlie" during their shared night shifts. After one of their patients dies, though, she slowly discovers his crimes.
So, how true of a story is "The Good Nurse"? While "true story" movies often employ composite characters, Amy Louhgren was the real nurse who helped catch Cullen. The film's personal details of Amy,...

Warning: The following article contains major spoilers for the Netflix film "The Good Nurse."
Any show or film "based on a true story" is guaranteed to have a built-in creep factor. In the case of "The Good Nurse," the story rips pages from Charles Graeber's 2013 book " The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder," which details how real-life serial killer Charles "Charlie" Cullen murdered dozens (possibly hundreds) of people. The film, co-starring Eddie Redmayne as Cullen and Jessica Chastain as the eponymous good nurse Amy Loughren, is the latest in a long string of serial killer adaptations to hit Netflix, for better or worse.
While the film itself falls a little flat, there is plenty to admire about both Chastain's and Redmayne's performances. Redmayne, in particular, makes a disturbing turn as the deadly nurse, who insidiously wields his power to kill people under the guise of simply doing his job.

In Academy Award nominee Tobias Lindholm’s Netflix film The Good Nurse, former NFL cornerback and actor Nnamdi Asomugha and The Americans’ Noah Emmerich play two cops investigating a string of curious deaths within a single hospital. Based on author Charles Graeber’s 2013 novel of the same name, screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns’ screenplay reveals nurse Charlie Cullen’s (Eddie Redmayne) serial atrocities through his fellow nurse and friend Amy Loughren (Jessica Chastain). Asomugha says that what sets The Good Nurse apart from the typical true-crime stories we’re used to seeing on the big screen is that director Lindholm chose to "talk about the heroes that brought him down and that really uncovered what this institution was trying to cover up."...

Nurse Amy Loughren is shocked when Charlie Cullen, one of her colleagues, is found responsible for the murder of dozens of patients over a period of sixteen years, across two states and nine hospitals, without being charged.
There’s a certain atmosphere present in Tobias Lindholm‘s The Good Nurse that will leave you feeling deeply disturbed and uncomfortable throughout every single minute of its over two-hour running time. Lindholm and screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns have crafted a film that feels so sickening to the point where you can barely stomach it. It’s made even more freaky when you consider the fact that it’s all based on a true story.
The Good Nurse is the definition of a slow-burning crime drama that will leave you guessing at nearly every turn.

With Academy Award-nominated director Tobias Lindholm’s new film, The Good Nurse, now streaming on Netflix, I recently got to speak with Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne about making the disturbing true-crime film. If you’re not familiar with the actual story, the movie is based on the 2013 book of the same name by Charles Graeber, which encapsulates the heinous crimes of Charlie Cullen (played by Redmayne), a nurse who killed hundreds of people by serving up lethal amounts of drugs to their systems. The only reason he was stopped was due to the incredible efforts of Amy Loughren (Chastain), a compassionate nurse and single mother struggling with a life-threatening heart condition that risked everything to stop him. Led by two fantastic performances and a smart script written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns, The Good Nurse is definitely worth your time. The film also stars Nnamdi Asomugha, Noah Emmerich, and Kim Dickens.

So for Halloween weekend, what’s an excellent setting for some creepy cinema chills? Sure, big creaky dark mansions are usually the “go-to” locale, and if they’re next to, or even attached to, a crumbling cemetery, well they fit the bill…in many flicks. But what about a public place, not the museums (as in the Night series), or a shopping mall (as in the original classic Dawn Of The Dead)? In this fright film, the main action occurs in a hospital. And unlike the second in the series, Halloween II, the shocks are more than doubled because this new one is a true story (or the “inspired by true events” genre). Oh, but this location is dedicated to healing and helping, right? And that’s the really frightening aspect. But the whole thing is not overly exploitive thanks to the Oscar-winning duo who portray a pair of healthcare workers.
