When your favorite TV show ends, you can feel like mourning. Sometimes, though, a show has gone on for so long that there's nothing left for it to do except to end. That was where "Smallville" was in 2011, when it began its 10th and final season on the CW.
"Smallville" followed a young Clark Kent (Tom Welling) during his high school years. Running storylines included Clark's relationship with girl next door Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) and his friendship with future nemesis, Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum). Along the way, the show included a monster of the week formula where Clark battled people given superpowers from Kryptonite — "Smallville" was very consciously "Superboy" by way of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer."
Season 10 was not announced to be the final season at the time, but the writers approached it as such. (The finale of "Smallville" is literally titled "Finale.") For one, while "Smallville" wasn't failing,...

The fallout from Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness’ split has taken a dramatic twist, with reports hinting at brewing tension.

Deborra-Lee Furness’ Frustration
While Deborra-Lee’s bond with Blake was never particularly close, this perceived betrayal has added to her frustration in the wake of the separation.
“She knew they would side with Hugh when they split, but what has disturbed Deb is the very real possibility that Ryan and Blake must have known about Sutton,” an insider said. “Truth be told, it was always difficult for Deb to bond with Blake because they’re so different, but she felt they got on just fine.

Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu has redefined the iconic vampire story, but Buffy tackled comparable territory 25 years earlier with its subversive Dracula episode.
“Your power is rooted in darkness. You must feel it.”
“No. You know what I feel? Bored.”
This article contains heavy spoilers for 2024’s Nosferatu and Season 5 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Society has been telling vampire stories for over a century, whether it’s the austere gothic horror of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel, Dracula, more palatable and playful stories, like the Twilight series and The Vampire Diaries, or something in between, such as Fright Night or The Lost Boys. Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu harkens back to the vampire’s vicious roots and his interpretation of F. W. Murnau’s 1922 original became one of 2024’s biggest horror movies and it’s still going strong. Nosferatu is dark, disturbing, and dedicated to its craft, yet among all the dread and despondency...

James Gunn has had a filmography that has made him a mainstay of the superhero cinema. Be it The Suicide Squad, The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, or Superman, it is easy to forget that the man is responsible for some of the greatest live-action adaptations of some of the most famed childhood cartoons.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a monster-hunting fantasy series that ran from 1997-2003; it's been over a for a long time now, but in an age of constant reboots and revivals, it's surprising that it's never come back in one form or another. "Into every generation a slayer is born," we're told in the intro. It's been over 20 years. Where's the next one?
Well, there actually was a reboot in development at one time, executive produced by original Buffy creator Joss Whedon with Monica Owusu-Breen serving as showrunner. But so far as we can tell, it's dead. Why? Well, it might have something to do with Whedon being excommunicated from Hollywood after allegations of his toxic workplace behavior surfaced, with multiple stars on his shows and movies — among them Justice League star Ray Fisher and Angel star Charisma Carpenter — coming forward. Sarah Michelle Gellar, the original star on Buffy the Vampire Slayer,...

In Friday’s episode of Dexter: Original Sin, our titular killer with a code experiences some normal, non-murdery feelings when a child — Judge Powell’s abducted son Jimmy — is sadly found dead, his body strung from a bridge.
Dexter has a panicked, sickened feeling after seeing his first dead kid, and the whole experience shakes him to his core. Harry assures his son that it’s a good thing that Dexter feels so spun by the sight of a dead child. So while Miami Metro deals with the Powell case, Harry sends Dexter to another scene dealing with a dead prostitute.

When "10 Things I Hate About You" was released in 1999, it featured a cast of swoon-worthy young stars. Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who wasn't sold on the movie at first), Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, and Larisa Oleynik were the film's core four, but the supporting cast was rounded out by actors like Gabrielle Union, David Krumholtz, Andrew Keegan, and Allison Janney, and everyone delivers a fun performance. The contemporary movie is actually an adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic play "The Taming of the Shrew," setting the romantic comedy at a modern high school instead of the olden days. It's about a pretty girl named Bianca (Oleynik) who isn't allowed to date until her uptight older sister Kat (Stiles) is taken; as a result, Cameron (Gordon-Levitt) pays the rambunctious Patrick (Ledger) to woo Kat. Hijinks ensue.

Fans of Showtime’s “Dexter” series are noticing that Sergeant James Doakes isn’t in “Dexter: Original Sin,” the new spinoff. The show takes place in 1991 before Doakes started working at the Miami Metro Police Department, so he is not there.
The series is about Dexter Morgan when he was younger and shows how he started as a forensic expert and a vigilante killer. While many characters from the original series are back, including Angel Batista, Vince Masuka, and Maria Laguerta, Sergeant Doakes is noticeably absent. He is known for his intense attitude and suspicion of Dexter.
Based on the show’s timing, Doakes could still be in the US Army Rangers or just starting as a police officer somewhere else during “Original Sin.” The third episode of the series introduces Maria Laguerta, who transfers to Miami Metro and shows that important new employees are still coming to the department.

The Dexter universe is growing larger by the second. Dexter: Original Sin is currently telling the origins of the young serial killer, but another prequel series could soon follow. Deadline reports that a prequel series revolving around the Trinity Killer (played by John Lithgow in the original series) is still “in development” at Paramount+.
The Trinity Killer prequel series was actually reported to be in condition in early 2023, but it’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything about it. Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips and Dexter writer/producer Scott Reynolds will serve as co-creators and executive producers of the Trinity Killer prequel series. Phillips even revealed that John Lithgow has agreed to come back and provide the inner voice of his younger self, much in the same way Michael C. Hall is doing for Dexter: Original Sin.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is a certified Swiftie. During an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress shared that she asked for a day off work to see Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour.

Jennifer Carpenter should be proud. Her character that audiences fell in love with over Dexter’s nine-season run is in good f–king hands.
In the second episode of Dexter: Original Sin, the foul-mouthed Debra Morgan (Molly Brown) is as angsty as ever, but with good reason. While Dexter starts his fancy new internship, Deb is feeling on the outs of her familial trio, expressing her feelings in the only way she knows how: with curse words. She tells a friend: “My dad and my brother are so far up each other’s asses, they don’t even know I exist!

Dexter: Original Sin seems like it’s off to a killer start.
The series premiere racked up 2.1M global viewers across Paramount+ and Showtime in the first three days of availability, according to Paramount Global.
The company also says it Showtime’s most-streamed premiere ever, although it didn’t specify how much of that audience came from streaming.
Dexter: Original Sin debuted on Friday, December 13 with one episode on Paramount+ before its cable premiere on Sunday evening. Episode rollout will continue that way with two new episodes streaming this Friday. This data encompasses viewership from Friday through Sunday.
Paramount certainly seems happy with this number, which is really all that matters, but it’s difficult to say whether this is an outright win, as the company shares data pretty sparingly.
It certainly seems promising for Showtime, specifically. Consider that the Season 2 premiere of Yellowjackets, which had the same streaming-to-linear rollout strategy,...

It sounds like Sarah Michelle Gellar might be willing to sharpen some stakes and rejoin the battle against the creatures of the night after all.
There's been talk of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot in some form or another for over a decade at this stage, but last year, we learned that the latest attempt to revive the franchise featuring a Black lead from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. scribe Monica Owusu-Breen had been put on pause.
Whether that series or some other incarnation of Buffy ever sees the light of day remains to be seen, but one person who could turn out to be the deciding factor is the actress who played Buffy Summers herself.
Gellar has previously dismissed the idea of returning as Buffy for any proposed revival of the show.

Sarah Michelle Gellar knows a thing or two about viscera. Or at least some of her past characters like Buffy Summers and Kristin Ramsey do. In Dexter: Original Sin, Gellar dives back into the world of blood as Tanya Martin, the CSI Chief of Miami Metro Pd. Tanya explains to newfound intern Dexter Morgan that “spatter matters,” a bit of knowledge the serial killer-in-training takes to heart.

Sarah Michelle Gellar has made an interesting discovery, and that discovery has led her to finally reconcile herself to the reality of a possible ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ return. It’s possible that seeing the fan reaction to the news of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’s’ return has made her open up to the potential of having another ‘Buffy.’
Sarah Michelle Gellar Said No To ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Reboot Because the Original Show Was “Perfect”
When you have something special and beautiful, you wouldn’t want to ruin it or tire people out with it, right?
As a fan, there are movies and TV shows I wish was left alone when it ended, and there are others I wish constantly to come online to news of a sequel, a reboot or even a spinoff.

We could possibly be seeing another beloved television series get the reboot treatment soon, and this show is one many fans have been hoping to see return in some way. It's the hit supernatural horror series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the show's main star recently announced that she'd be down to reprise her role as the titular character.
During a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Christian Slater and Sarah Michelle Gellar sat down with host Drew Barrymore to discuss their new show, Dexter: Original Sin. At one point during the interview, Barrymore asked Gellar if she'd be open to returning for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. Of course, this question got the audience immediately clapping as they awaited her response.
This wasn't the first time that Gellar was asked this question. When she was asked about a Buffy reboot in the past, she pretty much shut down the idea.

Plot: Miami, 1991. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, young Dexter Morgan must learn to channel his inner darkness as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer with the guidance of his father, Harry.
Review: Fans have loved Dexter since it premiered on Showtime in 2006. Running for eight seasons and ninety-six episodes, the serial killer series ended as the most-watched finale in Showtime history when it aired in 2013. Eight years later, the series was revived as the limited series Dexter: New Blood, which concluded with the death of Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan. Now, showrunner Clyde Phillips brings back the character yet again for the prequel Dexter: Original Sin, a ten-episode look back at the formative years of the blood splatter technician for the Miami Police, who also happens to be a serial killer. Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone did a complete 180 degrees in terms of quality in the final season. Fans couldn’t believe that Sheridan, who wrote the brilliant four seasons of the show, would ruin the show with bad writing. However, Sheridan is indirectly responsible for the development of the prequel series of the long-running fan-favorite show, Dexter.

Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s opinion about rebooting Buffy the Vampire Slayer is evolving!
The 47-year-old actress famously brought the titular heroine to life on the successful TV series, which ran between 1997 and 2003.
In the past, she has explained that she isn’t interested in participating in a revival since the story was so successfully wrapped up in the original finale. However, during a recent interview, she explained that she is more open to the idea now.

While on The Drew Barrymore Show, Sarah explained that her participation in Dexter: Original Sin, a reboot of Dexter, helped changed her perception.
“I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble and it’s so perfect,” she explained, via Variety. “But watching [And Just Like That…] and seeing [Dexter: Original Sin], and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.’”

Sarah Michelle Gellar may have been opposed to a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot at one point, but she’s come around to the idea more recently.
The actress, who’s currently starring in Dexter: Original Sin, stopped by The Drew Barrymore Show on Friday, where the talk show host asked her if she had any thoughts on bringing her beloved series back in some capacity.
“It’s funny. I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble, and it’s so perfect,” Gellar said. “But watching Sex and the City [sequel series, And Just Like That] and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.'”
And it doesn’t have to be a prequel. “It could be anything,” the actress said. “It’s a universe. And it makes you realize that in this world, we need those heroes, I think, more so than ever.

Sarah Michelle Gellar may not get a chance to be in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer, but there is another character of hers she wouldn’t mind revisiting: Buffy Summers. Gellar had previously been against the idea of reviving Buffy the Vampire Slayer but now sees there being less at stake…
Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show (via Deadline), Sarah Michelle Gellar said of resurrecting Buffy, “It’s funny, I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble and it’s so perfect. But watching Sex and the City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.’” As for when the reboot could take place, Gellar added, “It could be anything. It’s a universe. And it makes you realize that in this world, we need those heroes, I think, more so than ever.

In the wake of Paramount+’s Dexter prequel series, Sarah Michelle Gellar says she is now open to reviving Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
“I always used to say no [to a reboot], because [Buffy is] in its bubble and it’s so perfect,” Gellar said Saturday during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. “But watching [And Just Like That…] and seeing [Dexter: Original Sin], and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.'”

After previously shutting down the idea, Sarah Michelle Gellar said she is now open to returning to the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” universe.
In an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” Gellar shared that she has been considering reprising her role as Buffy in a potential project.
“I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble and it’s so perfect,” Gellar said on the talk show. “But watching ‘[And Just Like That…]’ and seeing ‘[Dexter: Original Sin],’ and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.’”
Gellar added that “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” would not necessarily need to be relegated to a prequel either, and that there could be a wealth of different narrative options to pursue.
“It could be anything,” Gellar added. “It’s a universe. It makes you realize that in this world, we need those heroes, I think, more so than ever.

[This story contains major spoilers from the season premiere of Dexter: Original Sin.]
Dexter: Original Sin flashes back to a young Dexter Morgan to pass the torch from Michael C. Hall’s grizzled, fugitive serial killer in present-day to 1991’s wide-eyed forensics Miami Metro intern played by Patrick Gibson.
Gibson seamlessly embodies the antihero viewers came to intimately know across eight seasons of the hit Showtime series that concluded in 2013, followed by a bonus year with the 2021 limited series New Blood. Now, Hall is an executive producer on Original Sin, where he continues to voice Dexter’s inner monologue throughout the 10-episode season. With the premiere that released on Friday, the Dexter franchise quite literally roared back to life by resurrecting Dexter (played in an onscreen appearance by Hall). That surprise revelation succeeds in undoing the New Blood ending, where creator Clyde Phillips had left Dexter bleeding in the snow and confirmed in interviews that Dexter was, in fact,...

Sarah Michelle Gellar might not be done with saving the world from the forces of darkness.
While discussing her role in the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, the Golden Globe nominee admitted she can now see how returning to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe could work.
“It’s funny, I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble and it’s so perfect,” she explained on The Drew Barrymore Show. “But watching Sex and the City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.'”
Gellar agreed Buffy wouldn’t necessarily need a prequel series in order to come back. “No, it could be anything. It’s a universe. And it makes you realize that in this world, we need those heroes, I think, more so than ever,” she added.

Jenni “JWoww” Farley stepped out for a big night without her friend and castmate Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi.
They’ve been friends for years because of their appearances on MTV’s Jersey Shore and its multiple spinoffs, including the currently airing Family Vacation.
Viewers often see JWoww hanging out with Snooki, Deena Cortese, Angelina Pivarnick, and Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola, as well as the guys including Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and Vinny Guadagnino.
However, Snooki didn’t attend a significant event with her castmate JWoww this week, and Snooki was apparently “so mad” that she left a group chat.
The MTV stars received an opportunity to attend a special occasion celebrating Dexter: Original Sin at Sva Theater in New York.
The spinoff prequel debuted on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday and is the origin story for the serial killer Dexter.

In an interesting move, the “Dexter” franchise is set to explore the beginnings of its famed serial killer, Dexter Morgan, in a new prequel series dubbed “Dexter: Original Sin.” This series began on Friday on Paramount+ with Showtime, transporting viewers back to 1991 Miami to uncover the origins of Dexter’s complex character.
The show, starring Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter, takes a unique look at his upbringing under the direction of his father, Harry Morgan, played by Christian Slater. The story unfolds through the eyes of a young serial killer in training, providing insight into Dexter’s formative experiences and moral quandaries.
Clyde Phillips, the creator who oversaw the first four seasons of the original series, was inspired by successful prequel models such as the “Yellowstone” franchise. “After we wrote ‘Dexter: New Blood,’ Chris McCarthy from Paramount suggested a prequel,” Phillips told Deadline. “We were excited about revisiting Dexter...

It is seemingly not possible for “Dexter,” as a franchise, to move forward. In the final moments of the sequel series “New Blood,” which aired eight years after the original series finale in 2013, Michael C. Hall’s serial killer was fatally shot. This development, on its surface, marked the end of the road for one of the defining leads of the antihero era, a role Hall had been playing for 15 years at the time. Sure, yet another follow-up, “Resurrection,” would pass the torch to Dexter’s son Harrison (Jack Alcott). But if network Showtime wanted to keep wringing drops from this blood-soaked towel, the only direction left to go in was back.
Incredibly, the prequel “Dexter: Original Sin” tries to have it both ways. Not only does the 10-episode season — advance screeners of which were not provided for critics — wind the clock back to 1991, when a 20-year-old Dexter (Patrick Gibson...

“Dexter: Original Sin” brings fans back to the serial killer they all know and (perhaps worth examining) love, but he’s wearing a different face this time around.
No, not literally. Dexter Morgan isn’t that kind of psychopath. He just has urges to kill people, and in the prequel series now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime (premiering on-air on Showtime this Sunday), we see how he learns to deal with those urges, and implement the Code that his father creates for him to do it somewhat safely.
There are plenty of characters you’ll recognize in the series, but all new faces, so let’s run them down, shall we?
Paramount Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson)
Since “Dexter: Original Sin” centers on Dexter Morgan as a teen, Patrick Gibson plays the serial killer this time around. You’ll recognize him from Netflix’s “The Oa” or maybe “Shadow and Bone.

[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “Dexter: Original Sin” Episode 1, “And in the beginning…”]
Ahead of Friday’s premiere, Paramount+ with Showtime didn’t provide review screeners for “Dexter: Original Sin” — a tactic that typically indicates the network has doubts about the program’s perceived quality — but in this specific instance, there may have been another reason at play. Sure, the latest “Dexter” spinoff is thoroughly unimpressive in its opening hour, which mainly reenacts scenes already described during the original series while younger actors cosplay as the older characters fans already know and, supposedly, love. But it also opens with a reveal that Showtime would want to keep hidden, since it raises quite a few questions about the future of the franchise. Ok… maybe it’s just one question:
Can Dexter Morgan die?
Technically, the thought first crossed my mind before “Dexter: Original Sin” even starts. After logging onto Paramount+ and clicking play on the “Dexter” prequel,...

Jennifer Love Hewitt addressed rumors of her return to the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot, before confirming she would officially be reprising her role.
The actress stopped by the I’ve Never Said This Before With Tommy Didario podcast for its episode dropping on Tuesday. While speaking with the host, she seemingly gave a hint about potentially reprising her role of Julie James for the upcoming sequel, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
“I am possibly preparing for that,” Hewitt confessed in a clip from the episode exclusively obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. “I am so close to being able to say something that’s exciting.”
Hewitt later went into greater detail about the idea of possibly returning to the franchise, which shot her to fame as a teen star after starring in the original 1997 film. “It has only been scheduling and me trying to make sure that...

Dexter: New Blood finally revealed what became of Dexter Morgan following Dexter's unsatisfying series finale as the serial killer returned to his old murderous ways. However, he had to balance that with being reunited with his now-teenage son, Harrison.
While it initially appeared that Harrison had the same darkness within him as his father, they were simply not the same. Dexter determined that, for his son to be normal, he had to kill him. Shot in the heart, Dexter died as Harrison left town.
Trailers for new prequel series Dexter: Original Sn have shown Dexter somehow alive and in the hospital but how did he manage to survive his fatal wound?

Now, Dexter loyalists have Dexter: Original Sin, which promises an origin-story prequel full of nods to the original.
