Emilia Clarke will forever be known as Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons, from Game of Thrones, but the actor has done a great many things in her career since then. She's spent months filming a new crime drama called Criminal, as well as doing voice work for an animated Netflix show called The Twits.
in her personal life, Clarke has been linked with some notable individuals, including dating Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane in the early 2010s. More recently, she's been seen in the company of DJ Sebastian 'Bassi' Fox. But according to The Sun, Clarke and Fox have now broken up after four months together.

Carice van Houten, best known for playing the Red Woman Melisandre on HBO's Game of Thrones; and Guy Pearce, who was just nominated for the first Academy Award of his career for her turn in The Brutalist, have split up. Actually, they've been split up for quite a while, as van Houten revealed on her Instagram Stories.
"I don't usually engage in discussions about my personal life, but because of a number of conclusions in the media last week regarding my relationship with Guy, I wanted to make something clear — he and I are great friends and love each other very much, but we haven't been a 'couple' for years," van Houten wrote. Brady Corbet has made his best film yet with an American epic about a Jewish refugee. Here’s our The Brutalist review.
The Brutalist, Brady Corbet’s Cannes sensation, feels timely despite its post-World War II setting. Its take on the immigration experience, seen through the eyes of a Hungarian-Jewish architect, was always going to hit close to home to anyone who has abandoned their birth country in the search of a new life, but The Brutalist feels even more painfully real after the re-election of a certain US president.
We first meet László Tóth (Adrien Brody) as he is arriving in New York. He can barely hold in his excitement as the Statue of Liberty towers over him. László is a kind, selfless man, but the longer he lives in America, the more that seems to change.
We follow László through the years as he is taken under the...

Guy Pearce and Carice van Houten are no longer together and they actually broke up years ago.
Questions about the status of their relationship came up after Guy‘s recent comments about his ex-wife Kate Mestitz.
“My ex-wife, Kate, was the greatest love of my life, but I’ve moved on from her now and the greatest love of my life is my child, Monte,” he told The Guardian in an interview published last weekend.
Guy added that his biggest disappointment in life was that he “felt like I messed up my marriage. I don’t feel that way any more, but at the time I was devastated.”
Guy and Carice were first linked as a couple in early 2016 and they welcomed their son Monte into the world that summer. We have some photos of them sharing a passionate kiss that year.

How do the 2025 Oscars Best Picture nominees stack up on Rotten Tomatoes? And does the film with the highest freshness rating have a better shot at winning the big prize?
While critics’ scores don’t determine the Best Picture lineup (there are thousands of highly rated movies each year), once the lineup is selected by the Motion Picture Academy, there are at least a few tea leaves worth reading. For instance, the only film to win Best Picture in the last 10 years with a freshness rating lower than 90 percent is Green Book, which has a Tomatometer score of just 77 percent.
Last year’s winner, Oppenheimer, holds a formidable 93 percent, but it didn’t rank first among it’s competitors. That distinction went to The Holdovers, which has a rating of 97 percent. So, a movie doesn’t have to have the highest score to win Best Picture, but it certainly helps its chances.

What might as well be deemed the most awaited time of the year for all the entertainment buffs around the globe is finally here: the list of nominations for the Oscars 2025 aka the 97th Academy Awards has finally been released. For one, the fan-beloved Kieran Culkin is up on the list for the first time in his star-studded acting career for giving one of the best performances of his lifetime in his 2024 masterpiece. But the competition is also rather tough, for battling alongside him is none other than the actor who almost played Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger: Jeremy Strong.

Emilia Pérez leads the 2025 Oscar nominations, which were revealed Thursday morning.
The film scored 13 noms, setting a record for a non-English-language film. That surpasses the previous record holders, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Roma, which each earned 10.
Following Emilia Pérez were The Brutalist and Wicked, which tied with 10 noms apiece. A Complete Unknown and Conclave followed with eight mentions each.
All five of those films will compete for best picture with Anora, Dune: Part Two, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys and The Substance. Coralie Fargeat, who directed the latter film, was the only female to be nominated in the best directing category, and also scored a writing nom, while star Demi Moore landed the first Oscar nom of her career, as did Isabella Rossellini for Conclave.
Karla Sofía Gascón, the Spanish-born star of Emilia Pérez, was nominated for best actress, making her the first openly transgender performer to be so honored.

And it has come down to this.
After months of hype, campaigning, predictions, and pivots, the 2025 Oscar nominations arrived Thursday to provide clarity in a muddled awards season.
Leading the way: Emilia Pérez (13 nominations), The Brutalist (10), Wicked (10), A Complete Unknown (eight), and Conclave (eight). Those films will compete with Anora, Dune: Part Two, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, and The Substance.
With its 13 nominations — including Best Director (Jacques Audiard), Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldaña) — Emilia Pérez set a record for an international film, eclipsing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Roma, which each had 10. The Spanish-language, Mexico-set French-imported musical’s tally matched last year’s leader, Oppenheimer, which went on to win Best Picture.
See‘Emilia Pérez’ sets the record for the most Oscar nominations for an international film
But without an Oppenheimer-esque juggernaut dominating the precursor awards, it’s expected to be a tight race with formidable competition.

Updated with more details, scorecards: Nominations for the 97th Oscars were revealed Thursday morning and the major takeaway is this heralds the most wide-open awards race we have witnessed in years.
A far cry from last year when Oppenheimer expectedly dominated the proceedings, this time the race for Best Picture features a class of wildly different, audaciously ambitious films. Emilia Pérez, the musical about a Mexican cartel leader who fakes his death and undergoes a gender transition but cannot avoid the people in her former life, leads all nominees with 13 including Best Picture, the most by a non-English-language film in Oscar history.
Also up for the top prize are Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance and Wicked.

As usual, the Oscars gave us some real surprises this morning. They went much bigger for A Complete Unknown and Wicked than originally expected. They also snubbed Challengers in several categories, left out Selena Gomez in Supporting Actress, and celebrated Nosferatu in places where Dune: Part Two got dropped. Here’s our quick reaction to the nominees and who we think could win each prize today.

The 2025 Oscar nominations were announced on Thursday and while some vets like Ralph Fiennes (Conclave) and Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown) have been around the block before, many others heard their names called for the very first time.
Among those Oscar newbies is Best Actress contender Demi Moore (The Substance), whose career spans more than 40 years but who, as she noted in her Golden Globe acceptance speech, was dismissed as a “popcorn actress” by a producer. It’s surprising that Guy Pearce (The Brutalist) never earned an Oscar nom before now; his past roles include Oscar-winning films like L.A. Confidential (1997), The Hurt Locker (2009), and The King’s Speech (2010), but he finally got on the board in this year’s Best Supporting Actor race. Hollywood royalty Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), the daughter of Oscar nominee Roberto Rossellini and Oscar winner Ingrid Bergman, finally scored a nom of her own in Best Supporting Actress.

Denzel Washington was shut out for his work in Gladiator II, and Daniel Craig was snubbed for his revelatory performance in Queer.

Congratulations are in order for Yura Borisov and the Anora cast, who have landed multiple Oscar nominations Thursday.
But perhaps no one will be more delighted than the previously relatively unknown star, Borisov, who has become the first Russian actor to earn an Oscar nomination in a performance category since 1977.
The full list of nominations was presented by actors Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott from the Film Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater with Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice), Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown) and Guy Pearce (The Brutalist) rounding out the competition in the supporting actor category.
The last Russian nominated for an Academy Award in an acting category was Mikhail Baryshnikov in 1977 for The Turning Point. The last to win was Lila Kedrova in 1964 for Zorba the Greek.

It’s official: Emilia Pérez has emerged as the frontrunner of awards season this year. Not only did Jacques Audiard’s gangster-thriller-musical-character-drama rack up major love at this year’s BAFTA nominations, but it’s the leader of the pack in the Oscar nominees in 2025 too. The film has been nominated in 13 categories at this year’s Academy Awards – including Best Picture, Director for Audiard, Leading Actress for Karla Sofía Gascón, Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña, and Adapted Screenplay. It nabbed two Original Song nominations too, going up against itself with ‘El Mal’ and ‘Mi Camino’. As ever, though, the most nominations doesn’t necessarily mean the most wins.
Hot on Emilia Pérez’s heels are Wicked and The Brutalist, each with 10 nominations. Clearly, musicals are pop-u-lar this year. The Brutalist is up for Best Picture, with Director for Corbet, Leading Actor for Adrien Brody, Supporting Actor for Guy Pearce,...

The 2025 Oscar nominations are here! The full list of noms for the 97th Academy Awards have been revealed, and “Emilia Pérez” and “The Brutalist” indeed performed well, given how they cleaned up at the Golden Globes (with four wins for the Jacques Audiard film and three for Brady Corbet’s). And so did that absolute blockbuster juggernaut “Wicked.”
“Emilia Pérez” scored 13 nods, tied with multiple other films such as “Gone with the Wind,” “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” and “Oppenheimer” for the second-most of all time. This is the most noms a non-English language feature has ever received.
“The Brutalist” and “Wicked” each scored 10 nominations, showing the extraordinary momentum they’ve built across awards season — “Wicked” has now grossed almost $466 million domestically. Both Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande received acting nominations.

The 97th Oscars Nominations Announcement has just concluded and we now know which movies will go head-to-head with each other during the year's most prestigious awards ceremony.
There are the usual surprise snubs, with Dune: Part Two and Wicked picking up over a dozen nominations between them but receiving nothing in the Best Director category for filmmakers Denis Villeneuve and Jon M. Chu.
Demi Moore, meanwhile, has received a Best Actress nod, only for her The Substance co-star Margaret Qualley to be frozen out. On the plus side, Thunderbolts* star Sebastian Stan did manage to land a Best Actor nomination for his role in The Apprentice as Donald Trump.
In what was a mostly dismal year for comic book adaptations in 2024, the superhero genre has been completely locked out. While these movies rarely make it into the big categories, there's nothing for Deadpool & Wolverine in the technical ones despite Disney...

Kieran Culkin, Conclave, Ariana Grande and more have been nominated for golden men. Here’s the list of Oscars 2025 nominations:
We’ve put on our finest clothing and poured a glass of champagne in honour of the Oscar nominations that have just emanated from the Academy’s chimney.
Among the big names in the running for an award this year are Wicked star Ariana Grande for Best Supporting Actress, Kieran Culkin in the Best Supporting Actor category for his engaging turn in A Real Pain, and Nosferatu for Best Make-Up & Hair. (We like to think that it was Bill Skarsgård’s moustache that swung the latter nomination.)
Fun fact: three of the five nominations in the Best Visual Effects category have primates in. Something for the VFX studios out there should think about if they want a nomination next year.

“Emilia Pérez,” a musical about a drug kingpin who undergoes gender affirming surgery, topped the 2025 Oscar nominations with 13 nods. It was followed closely behind by “The Brutalist,” a historical epic the examines the immigrant experience, and “Wicked,” the hit screen version of a long-running Broadway sensation, which both nabbed 10 nominations. “Conclave,” a thriller about the election of a new pope, and “A Complete Unknown,” a look at Bob Dylan’s early, freewheelin’ years, each had 8 nominations.
The Oscar nominations were unveiled Thursday after voting had been extended twice because of the wildfires that have devastated Los Angeles, resulting in the deaths of at least 28 people and catastrophic property damage. After last weekend saw both “Wolf Man” and “One of Them Days” try to attract comedy and horror fans alike, this weekend’s offerings lean exclusively to the horror and thriller crowd. “Flight Risk” brings Mark Wahlberg back in front of the camera as a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) as she brings along a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. The State of the Race
The same can be said for almost all the other acting races, but wow does the proposed Best Supporting Actor lineup look a lot different than it did at the top of awards season. The only constant has been “A Real Pain” star Kieran Culkin being most expected to win.
Besides receiving the majority of critics awards, the Emmy winner took home the Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture, kicking off the televised portion of his Oscar run.

The word masterpiece is thrown around a lot, but when leaving the cinema having just given four hours of your life to Brady Corbet’s epic production The Brutalist, it really is the first word that comes to mind.
Ahead of it’s UK release, and in the midst of the festival season, of which this film is a frontrunner in all major categories, we had the pleasure in speaking to three of its stars; Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce and Joe Alwyn. We discussed the merits of the film and when they realised they were working on something special. They speak about the direction, and they tell us about how other roles impacted these – and for Jones, that included a lean into her experience with Jedi-spirit. They also talk about one of the film’s most impact scenes, and how Pearce ended up hiding behind a cupboard.

The Brutalist director Brady Corbet clarified how AI tools were used on the film during postproduction after social media outrage about the practice spread widely over the weekend.
In a statement provided to Gold Derby, Corbet said nothing was done to alter the performances of stars Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones, who play Hungarian immigrants in America just after World War II. “Adrien and Felicity’s performances are completely their own. They worked for months with dialect coach Tanera Marshall to perfect their accents,” Corbet said. He explained that AI tools were used in editing parts where the actors spoke Hungarian onscreen.
“Innovative Respeecher technology was used in Hungarian language dialogue editing only, specifically to refine certain vowels and letters for accuracy,” Corbet added. “No English language was changed. This was a manual process done by our sound team and Respeecher in post-production. The aim was to preserve the authenticity...
