‘When They See Us,’ ‘Dolemite,’ ‘Us,’ ‘Queen & Slim’ Lead 51st NAACP Image Awards Nominees
The nominees for the 51st NAACP Image Awards were announced today, with Netflix leading both film and television categories combined, earning 12 motion picture nominations and 30 for television, for a total of 42 nominations.

Ava DuVernay’s Central Park 5 miniseries, “When They See Us,” accounted for nine of Netflix’s television nominations, including Outstanding Television Movie, Limited Series or Dramatic Special, and Outstanding Actor in a Television Movie, Limited Series or Dramatic Special, a category in which three of the series’ lead actors are nominated.

On the motion picture side, Eddie Murphy’s “Dolemite is My Name” accounts for seven of Netflix’s 12 total film nominations, including Outstanding Motion Picture and Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture.

Universal Pictures leads the motion picture categories with 15 nominations, helped by Lena Waithe’s “Queen and Slim” and Jordan Peele’s “Us,” both with seven nominations each, including Outstanding Motion Picture, Actor, and Actress.

NAACP Image Awards: black-ish and When They See Us Lead TV Nominees

Nominations for the 51st NAACP Image Awards were announced Thursday, with ABC’s black-ish and Netflix’s When They See Us leading the comedy and drama pack, respectively.

black-ish scored eight total nominations, including recognition for Outstanding Comedy Series and six of its stars. (At the 2019 ceremony, black-ish won nearly every category for which it was nominated, including its fourth consecutive trophy for Outstanding Comedy Series). Both of its spinoffs, grown-ish and mixed-ish, also appear on the list of nominees.

NAACP Image Awards: ‘When They See Us,’ ‘Dolemite Is My Name’ Lead Nominees
The nominees for the 51st NAACP Image Awards were announced Thursday at a joint press conference. “When They See Us” and “Dolemite Is My Name” lead the nominees in their respective categories. The winners will be revealed during the two-hour Live TV special airing on Bet Networks on Saturday, February 22, 2020 8/7c.

Netflix leads the television category nominations with 30, with an additional 12 nominations in the motion picture categories for a total of 42. Universal Pictures leads the motion picture categories with 15 nominations.

Billy Porter, Lizzo and Regina King Nominated for Entertainer of the Year at 2020 NAACP Image Awards

Billy Porter, Lizzo and Regina King Nominated for Entertainer of the Year at 2020 NAACP Image Awards
Angela Bassett, Billy Porter, Lizzo, Regina King and Tyler Perry are nominated for entertainer of the year at the 2020 NAACP Image Awards.

Lizzo earned six nominations total — including album, female artist and music video/visual album.

King and Bassett also picked up noms for actress in a drama series for their roles on HBO’s “Watchmen” and Fox’s “9-1-1,” respectively, while Porter is also up for actor in a drama series for FX’s “Pose.”

Beyonce tops the nominations with eight nods across all categories — earning nods for variety (series or special), documentary (television – series or special), album for her Netflix documentary “Homecoming’s” live album, as well as honors for “The Lion King.” Blue Ivy Carter also earned a outstanding collaboration nom for appearing on the track “Brown Skin Girl” for Beyonce’s “The Lion King: The Gift” album.

We’re now less than two years away from the release of “Avatar 2,” and while there’s still no official images from the film, we got our first look at some exotic and tropical new concept art that takes the Na’Vi to realms beyond Pandora.

“In the #Avatar sequels, you won’t just return to Pandora — you’ll explore new parts of the world. Check out these brand new concept art pieces for a sneak peek at what’s to come,” the official “AvatarTwitter account tweeted on Tuesday along with four drawn still images.

The images were unveiled as part of a presentation at the CES conference in Las Vegas Monday night, at which James Cameron was present to announce a new partnership between Avatar and Mercedes-Benz on the VisionAVTR car inspired by the worlds of Pandora.

The jaw-dropping pieces of concept art gives us a glimpse of the sun-kissed vistas, breath-taking sci-fi scenery, and the majestic blue seas that the sequel is set to explore. Not only that, the images also give us a look at some of the animals that inhabit the world and will accompany the native Na'vi in the follow-up.

It shocked fans everywhere thanks to the twist not being revealed ahead of transmission, but how are Lasalle's former co-workers holding up in the aftermath?

NCIS: New Orleans Season 6 Episode 7, which aired Tuesday on CBS, picked up in the aftermath of the death.

To the surprise of nobody, the team was kept from active duty for a few weeks to cope with the huge loss.

They were told that a return to work was off the cards until they had been cleared to do so by an NCIS psychologist. You know, standard protocol.

Loretta Wade (Cch Pounder) tried to make everyone believe she was fine, but she was annoyed that the team put themselves in such a precarious situation as part of the job.

In today’s film news roundup, “Avatar” gets a streaming date, Trace Adkins and Thora Birch join disaster thriller “13 Minutes,” and Jamie Bell and Ruby Rose get voice cast roles.

Streaming

James Cameron’s “Avatar” will be available on Nov. 12 on Disney Plus when the streaming service launches in the U.S., Canada and the Netherlands.

Avatar” will also become available on the service in Australia and New Zealand on Nov. 19. Disney Plus will be the exclusive subscription streaming home of the film, which will be marking the 10th anniversary of its theatrical release on Dec. 18.

Avatar” was nominated for nine Oscars and won three for visual effects, cinematography and production design. It’s the second-highest worldwide grosser of all time at $2.79 billion, trailing only “Avengers: Endgame.”

The film stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Cch Pounder, Wes Studi and Laz Alonso.

Original ‘Avatar’ Film to Stream on Disney+ at Launch

Disney+ just got a lot bigger and bluer. The original “Avatar” film from 2009 and directed by James Cameron will stream on Disney+ on the day of the streaming service’s launch on Nov. 12, Cameron announced in a video Friday.

Cameron and Disney are currently at work on a series of four Avatar sequels in New Zealand, and the film will be available for streaming in the Us, Canada, Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand at launch.

The film was not previously available on a streaming platform until now, but the film that was the highest grossing movie of all time up until the release of “Avengers: Endgame” earlier this yer will be celebrating its 10th anniversary on Dec. 18. “Avatar” grossed $2.78 billion worldwide upon its release, including $760 million domestically to make the third highest grossing film in North America.
