The Producers Guild Awards nominations list hit inboxes on Thursday morning, one day after nominations for the 2025 BAFTA Awards and 2025 Writers Guild Awards were revealed. Adrien Brody is well on his way to potentially win a second Oscar with his recent film The Brutalist. However, what many don’t know is that he once eyed the role that brought Heath Ledger his posthumous Oscar. Adrien Brody appeared in a podcast on January 16th, discussing his eventful career.

During the conversation, the host asked the actor if it was true that he once talked to Christopher Nolan about The Dark Knight. Brody admitted he did in fact have his interpretation of Joker. Especially as he felt suited for the role at the time.

However, he is glad that it was Ledger who played the part because of what a phenomenal job he did. Nevertheless, he also confessed that it would be amazing if he managed to come across anything similar to that again, as it was such a dream role.

According to Gold Derby predictions, the Netflix musical dramedy is poised to receive 11 bids — more than any other contender — including Best Director (Jacques Audiard), Best Actress (Karla Sofía Gascón), and Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldaña). That would be two fewer than last year’s nominations leader Oppenheimer at 13, but on par with 2022’s Everything Everywhere All at Once at 11 — both of which won Best Picture.

It seems Timothée Chalamet needs to stick to rolling up to movie premieres in cars.

Earlier this week, the actor went viral for arriving at the London premiere of A Complete Unknown on a Lime bike. In photos shared online (below), Chalamet could be seen sporting a navy blue suit, paired with a lime green and white bike.

Lime bikes are electric bicycles that can be rented in major cities from the Lime transportation company.

However, he recently revealed on the talk show Quotidien, while promoting the biopic in France, that he actually got a 65 pound fine that night, which equates to $79.53, for not parking the bike properly.

Chalamet explained that while a bike is more eco-friendly, he actually opted out of taking a car to make it to the premiere on time as there was a traffic jam. And though he made it to the premiere, it ultimately cost him.

Conclave emerged the favorite among the 2025 Ee BAFTA Film Awards voters, scoring 12 nominations including Best Film, Director, Leading Actor, and Supporting Actress. Emilia Pérez was close behind with 11 nominations, followed by The Brutalist with nine and Anora, Dune: Part Two, and Wicked with seven.

Overall, 42 films earned BAFTA Film Awards nominations, and 14 of the 24 performance nominees are BAFTA Awards first-timers.

Winners will be announced on February 16th.

Picturehouse Central saw the arrival of Brady Corbett’s The Brutalist this evening for the film’s UK Premiere. The epic film has conquered America’s film-going crowd over the last few weeks, and now it’s our turn to see what all the fuss is about. We reviewed the film last year in Venice and… well, it’s one of the films of the year.

Directed by Brady Corbet, the cast includes Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn.

The cast of the award-winning movie The Brutalist stepped out together for the UK premiere sans co-star Joe Alwyn, who was doing press elsewhere.

Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Guy Pearce walked the red carpet together at the film’s UK premiere on Wednesday night (January 15) at the Picturehouse Central in London, England.

Also in attendance at the premiere were co-stars Raffey Cassidy and Stacy Martin, as well as writer-director Brady Corbet and co-writer Mona Fastvold.

Joe was in New York City that day and was seen heading into The Drew Barrymore Show studio to film an interview to promote the movie. He did join the cast at the film’s Los Angeles premiere last month.

A week after scoring a surprise Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Best Actor for Queer, Craig was even more surprisingly Awol from BAFTA’s nominations list that has an extra sixth spot. Hugh Grant (Heretic) and Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice) made it in alongside the predicted Oscar top four of Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), and Ralph Fiennes (Conclave). How could the erstwhile Bond be excluded on home turf? That was always a possibility since Heretic is a greater box office success, and said home turf enormously liked The Apprentice, which converted three of its longlist mentions into nominations. Queer? Craig was its sole longlist showing.

Bafta has announced the nominations for the Ee British Academy Film Awards in 2025, celebrating the very best in film of the past year. Bafta winner Will Sharpe and former Ee Rising Star winner Mia McKenna-Bruce hosted the announcement via global livestream from the arts charity’s headquarters at 195 Piccadilly, London. The Ee Bafta Film Awards, hosted by David Tennant, will be broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer from London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 16 February. In addition, the Ee Bafta Film Awards will be available across BritBox in North America, the Nordics and Australia, as well as a host of further international broadcasters to be announced. Viewers at home will also have front row seats to the red-carpet arrivals, which will be streamed live on Bafta’s YouTube, featuring interviews with nominees and other special guests. It is the most musical or music-inspired year in the British Academy’s history as Wicked, A Complete Unknown, and Emilia Pérez all scored BAFTA Film Awards nominations on Wednesday.

Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language musical closely follows the leader, Conclave, with 11 nominations, including performance nominations for its three main actresses, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, and Zoe Saldaña. Director Audiard scored three nods, namely for best director, adapted screenplay and best film not in the English language. Plus, Paul Guilhaume is nominated for cinematography and Camille, Clement Ducol for their original score.

Jon M. Chu’s Broadway adaptation of the beloved musical Wicked (which scooped up the box office prize at the recent Golden Globes) picked up a healthy seven BAFTA nominations, including Cynthia Erivo‘s first main BAFTA award nomination ever in the leading actress category for her portrayal of Elphaba, as well as a supporting actress nod for Galinda/Glinda Ariana Grande.

Despite making the BAFTA Film Awards longlist, Daniel Craig was notably missing when the final nominees were unveiled Wednesday.

The Queer star was not recognized among his peers Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Hugh Grant (Heretic), Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Colman Domingo for prison drama Sing Sing, Timothée Chalamet for Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, and Sebastian Stan for his portrayal of Donald Trump in The Apprentice, who all made the shortlist.

Craig was nominated for Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice, and SAG awards, though has been what many would call snubbed by the British Academy in his native U.K. He was part of The Hollywood Reporter‘s actor roundtable last month.

Beloved by Brits for his iconic role in the James Bond franchise, Craig took on the lead part in Luca Guadagnino’s Queer. He played William Lee, an American expat in his mid-50s leading a solitary existence in Mexico City.

Blessed be Edward Berger, whose Vatican drama Conclave is now officially the front-runner in this year’s BAFTA Film Awards nominations.

The Ralph Fiennes- and Stanley Tucci-starring film, based on the novel by Robert Harris, leads the way with 12 BAFTA nominations — ahead of Emilia Pérez‘s 11 and The Brutalist‘s nine, as unveiled by actors Will Sharpe and Mia McKenna-Bruce from the British Academy’s headquarters in London mid-day on Wednesday.

Among others, Conclave is in the running for best film, outstanding British film, best director for Oscar winner Berger, leading actor for Fiennes and adapted screenplay for Peter Straughan. Isabella Rossellini is also nominated in the supporting actress category.

On Wednesday, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced its 78th annual BAFTA Awards nominees, with expected contenders Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, and Emilia Pérez nominated for Best Film.

Conclave led all films with 12 nominations, including bids for Best Film, Best British Film, Best Director for Edward Berger, Best Adapted Screenplay for Peter Straughan, Best Actor for Ralph Fiennes, and Best Supporting Actress for Isabella Rossellini. It’s the second time BAFTA voters have widely embraced a Berger feature in three years after giving All Quiet on the Western Front 14 nominations in 2023.

In second, just behind the nominations leader, was Emilia Pérez. Netflix’s top contender landed 11 BAFTA Award nominations, including Best Film, Best Film Not in English Language, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for Jacques Audiard, Best Actress for Karla Sofia Gascón, and Best Supporting Actress for Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña.

Fire Relief Fund has donated $2.5 million to “directly support families who lost their homes and community organizations at the forefront of relief.”

Small Things Like These has nods in Best Screenplay, Lead Actor for Murphy, and Best Film. Other Best Film nominees include Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice, King Frankie, and Kneecap.

Kneecap has a strong showing across the noms, with nods in Best Director for Rich Peppiatt and all three of the film’s leads pop up in Best Actor. Paul Mescal also received a Best Actor nomination for his role in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II.

On the TV side, Sharon Horgan’s Bad Sisters is nominated for Best Drama while the Eddie Redmayne thriller The Day of the Jackal has multiple noms, including Best Director for a Drama Series.

A24’s The Brutalist busted out in limited expansion this weekend with close to $1.39 million on just 68 screens, a $20.4k per screen average, excellent for a period film with a three hour and 35-minute run time about a Hungarian architect in 1950s Doylestown, Pa. It won multiple Golden Globes — for Best Picture – Drama, Best Actor for Adrien Brody and Best Director — last Sunday.

This is another fine indie weekend as Hard Truths by iconic filmmaker Mike Leigh saw $165k at 22 theaters, a strong opening, despite severe weather in the south and the ongoing fire crisis in LA.

The Last Showgirl rounded out the top 10 on its debut weekend.

Holdovers Nosferatu, A Complete Unknown and Babygirl are at nos. 4, 6 and 8 respectively.
