Exclusive Posters & BTS Video from Fear Pharm: "One corn field, a number of psychos and numerous killings... welcome to scarytales.
It’s Halloween and, if four high school seniors can make it through the world’s scariest maze in under two hours, they'll win a cash grand prize at the local fair. Seems fun and easy enough, but - little do they know - they’ll only make it through if they can escape a deranged family looking to harvest the DNA of young teens for their special pharmaceutical cream. Hopefully their high school P.E. class taught them enough to figure out...

Jerry O’Connell deserved better. Frankly, anyone does than this, though O’Connell in particular is a solid actor who has thrived in raunchy comedies before. However, this marks a career low-point, if not for him (he at least still tries) than his agent for passing this script on to him. Ballbuster is one of the worst movies that I’ve seen in years, deeply unfunny, indifferently made, and downright embarrassing for its cast and crew. That anyone gave money for this to be made boggles the mind. It’s being released today, though a more apt description is that it’s escaping. Avoid it at all costs. The flick is, supposedly, a comedy, though all evidence to the contrary. After an opening sequence showcasing how tough his father was on him, we meet star basketball player Rich Johnson (O’Connell) in his waning years. Trying to win his new team their first championship,...

Chris Pratt’s brother Cully has no time for nepotism, choosing two McU stars ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy’s Peter Quill as his picks for favorite Marvel superheroes.
Chris and fellow McU regular Tom Holland recently sat down with Extra Butter to discuss the upcoming Pixar movie Onward. During their exchange, interviewer Mark S. Allen surprised the Star-Lord actor with a video call from Cully, who trolled his brother by fawning over Holland.
As well as naming Spider-Man and Thor as his top two Avengers, Cully expressed disappointment that Holland isn’t working with Chris Hemsworth on Onward instead of the Infinity Saga’s other cosmic Chris. On a sincere note, however, Chris Pratt also praised the Pixar movie for its take on brotherly bonds, telling Cully that the film seems almost designed to make him cry:
“This movie, Cully, I can’t wait for you to see this movie.

Warner Brothers has a lot to be happy about this holiday season. They celebrated with critics and two cast members from “Crazy Rich Asians” on Saturday night in “Seinfeld” territory — the Upper West Side. “Isn’t it fantastic?” cheered Michelle Yeoh when I pointed out she’s in a romantic comedy that has made $240 million worldwide. “If you read just my lines in the script you think it’s a serious drama,” she said with a laugh.
She was tight-lipped about anything to do with the her “Star Trek: Discovery” TV series, whose second season premieres in January; when a colleague asks she just makes the lips-zipped gesture. But she did talk about the dangers of high-wire acting in things like “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” “There were many near-misses. You get going up there and you can’t stop. One time hanging from a truck I heard the driver say,...

Chicago – The Blu-ray of Scott Hicks’ horrendous “The Lucky One” includes special features called “Zac Efron Becomes a Marine,” “Watch the Sparks Fly - The Romantic World of The Lucky One,” and “Zac and Taylor’s Amazing Chemistry.” This is false advertising. Because it implies that Mr. Efron believably becomes a Marine, the film is even slightly romantic, or that its two stars have an ounce of chemistry. This is the bottom of the Nicholas Sparks barrel, an inert romantic drama that fails on every level.
Rating: 1.0/5.0
In some ways, “The Lucky One” is like a greatest hits of Sparks cliches but that might make it sound more fun than it actually is in the end. It’s just so deadly dull, in no small part because Efron, who I’ve defended and liked before, is simply awful here. I don’t think it’s completely his fault but he...

Chicago – “Contraband” has some action movie elements that work but too much of it is overly familiar, especially the parts played by leads Mark Wahlberg and supporting actors J.K. Simmons, Ben Foster & Giovanni Ribisi, strong actors who resort to their basic tricks here and just don’t deliver. I like all four guys but this is lazy work in a relatively lazy film overall. All in all, “Contraband” is a mediocre movie that moves quickly enough to barely fit the bill on a rainy Saturday night but isn’t the best work by anyone involved.
Blu-ray Rating: 2.0/5.0
The odd structure of “Contraband” requires it to be one of those films in which something is constantly going wrong. It stays convoluted in order to try and entertain. There’s no movie if there isn’t a series of bad decisions and unlucky encounters. It’s almost comical how many things go...

What is it lately with London critics trying to knock down The Godfather? Just a few weeks ago, David Thomson was blurbed as saying that The Red Riding Trilogy was "better than The Godfather." This week we have Kevin Maher of The London Times saying that France's Oscar contender for Best Foreign Film, A Prophet, is "as epic as The Godfather." Now that I've seen the former, let me simply say that comparing The Godfather Trilogy (yes, even with Part III) to the Red Riding films is like, well, comparing The Godfather films to the Red Riding Trilogy.
This is the trap that so many modern film critics fall into. Trying to make their point so hard that they use the loudest possible comparison to guarantee they will be heard. Thomson deserves credit for trying to back up his assertion, which seems to be based on the Red Riding films...

Moviegoers have two new choices this weekend - unless you are fortunate enough to have Andrea Arnold's exceptional Fish Tank opening in your area. One of them is the kid-friendly The Spy Next Door with Jackie Chan taking a cue from Vin "The Pacifier" Diesel as an action hero babysitting some children. To date the Lionsgate film hasn't found any quotes to use in the ads. And hard to imagine they will find many for a film directed by Brian "Snow Dogs" Levant. The standout choice for the weekend is the return of the Hughes Brothers to theaters. Hard to believe that Allan & Albert have been out of the game since their 2001 adaptation of Alan Moore's From Hell. Even harder to believe that The Book Of Eli is being greeted by a who's who of the unreliable.
The quotes on the ads have been getting shifted around all week.

Two years ago, Mark S. Allen, the entertainment douchebag for Good Day Sacramento (yes, it really exists, and isn't just a fanciful platform from which to launch the latest Katherine Heigl vibrating-panty vehicle) had to apologize publicly to Janet Jackson and Tyler Perry for doggedly pursuing a line of NippleGate questioning during an interview that infuriating both them and viewers. He was at it again today, but this time, he chose the wrong target: Joan Rivers.

Chicago – How desperate are you for laughs? If you rent all the straight-to-video comedies that come down the line, then “Fired Up” may have enough lines that hit the funny bone to warrant a rental. It’s certainly not as unbearable as some theatrical junk like “Disaster Movie” or “White Chicks,” but that’s doesn’t mean it’s worth your time.
Blu-Ray Rating: 2.0/5.0 Eric Christian Olsen and Nicholas D’Agosto star as a pair of horny football players at Gerald Ford High School who decide to ditch football camp so they can spend some time hitting on the chicks at cheerleading camp. It’s so simple a plot that it’s kind of remarkable someone didn’t come up with it earlier.
Fired Up was released on Blu-Ray on June 9th, 2009.
