Stephen King's novel "Holly" is being adapted into a TV show, starring recurring character Holly Gibney. Holly has already appeared in TV adaptations of "Mr. Mercedes" and "The Outsider," played by different actors. An adaptation of "If It Bleeds," a novella featuring Holly, would complete her appearances in other media and bring the collection of the same name to a full circle.
One more Stephen King novel is getting a TV adaptation, and this is great news for a forgotten short story starring the same character. For decades, Stephen King has terrorized generations of viewers and allowed them to explore different fears and meet a variety of monsters, both human and supernatural. With over 60 published works, King's stories continue to be adapted to other media, with some novels even being adapted more than once (as is the case for Carrie and It), though some more successfully than others.

Stephen King's 2023 novel Holly will be turned into a TV series, and it features a character that appeared in two previous shows from his universe.
During a Q&a at Chicago's 2023 Printers Row Lit Fest (via CinemaBlend), Emmy Award-winning director and producer Jack Bender, who previously adapted several Stephen King stories for television, revealed that he has a new King adaptation in the works. The novel in question is Holly, King's latest release.

Stephen King loves Holly Gibney. First introduced in King's crime novel "Mr. Mercedes," book one of the Bill Hodges trilogy, she's returned in his work time and time again. She came back in the two other books in the trilogy: "Finders Keepers" and "End of Watch." Then she appeared in the novel "The Outsider" and the short story "If It Bleeds." Finally, she got a book of her own with "Holly," the newest novel King published (it came out in 2023; the ever-prolific King probably wrote four more novels in the time it will take me to finish this sentence).
Holly has been brought to the small screen twice already. She appeared in the "Mr. Mercedes" TV series, where she was played by Justine Lupe. Then she popped up again in the TV adaptation of "The Outsider," where Cynthia Erivo played the character. Now, Holly is headed to the small screen again,...

MGM+ has officially renewed the horror series From for a third season, following its success and positive reception. The release date for From season 3 has not been announced yet, but previous seasons have followed a yearly schedule. Many of the cast members from previous seasons are expected to return for From season 3, including Harold Perrineau, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Eion Bailey.
The MGM+ original horror series From has delivered the scares for its first two seasons, and there's exciting news about season 3. Debuting in 2022, the story follows the denizens of a mysterious town who are compelled to stay by powerful forces. From impressed with its acting and writing, and has become something of an underrated gem for the premium cable network. Often compared to ABC's Lost because of its twisting use of narrative and blending of genres, many episodes of From have been helmed by Lost lead director Jack Bender.

For a horror fan, the month of October is naturally designated for everything related to Halloween. So this month’s installment of Deep Cuts Rising features a variety of horror movies that take place on or around October 31st. As usual, though, these selections can generally be considered overlooked, forgotten or unknown.
This month’s Halloween-themed offerings include zombies, witchcraft, killers, and more.
The Midnight Hour (1985)

Directed by Jack Bender.
The Midnight Hour is a great warm-up for the Halloween season, right before diving into heavier or scarier movies. This telefilm originally aired on ABC, then later showed up on cable. While it didn’t open to rave reviews, it has certainly found an audience over the years. The plot is simple enough: teens fool around with magic and accidentally raise an evil sorceress on Halloween. As the night goes on, the town is taken over by ghouls and monsters.

The search for the next Lost has been happening for the past 13 years since it ended, and the answer lies in the Stephen King-approved horror series From. Becoming a massive phenomenon upon its release in 2004, Lost is still regarded as one of the greatest TV shows of all time despite its divisive 2010 finale, which has led to over a decade's worth of series attempting to recapture its lightning-in-a-bottle magic. Many mystery TV shows have been branded the “new Lost” since, but none have succeeded in living up to this title as earnestly as From, an ongoing mystery horror series that more quietly premiered in 2022.
In a premise not entirely dissimilar to the mysterious plane crash series Lost, the MGM Plus show From is centered on a peculiar town that traps anyone who enters, which is terrorized by horrifying monsters at night and supernatural occurrences throughout the day. Stephen King never changes his mind about his takes on movie and TV adaptions of his books, but one weird TV adaptation made him reconsider his initial opinion. From expressing how much he loves Frank Darabont's Shawshank Redemption to blatantly criticizing Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, Stephen King has always been unapologetically confident about his opinions on TV and movie adaptations of his books. While he does not blindly give away positive reviews to movies and shows based on his books, he always explains why he enjoyed or hated a certain adaptation.
For instance, he has lauded Brian De Palma's Carrie for its ingeniously satirical depiction of high-school life and also appreciated lower-budget adaptations of his work like Cujo. Although some of his opinions on films like The Shining may have gone against the grain, he has, time and again, even agreed with audiences by being vocal about...

In a town as nightmarish as the one we see in From, it's tough to keep your cool when monsters abound, and home seems like such a distant memory. But young Ethan Matthews has always managed to approach the town much differently from the adults surrounding him.
Ethan's precocious and kind nature has been a blessing to the town, and as we move through From Season 2, we expect to continue to see Ethan grow up right before our eyes as things shift and pivot in the ever-unpredictable town.
TV Fanatic got to talk with the effortlessly sweet Simon Webster, who plays the aforementioned Ethan, about everything from Ethan's calm demeanor amongst the madness and which characters he would like to see Ethan interact with more often.
If the From Gods are listening, we would like to see some more Ethan and everyone, really!

Season one of MGM+s’ propulsive horror series “From” wasted no time going straight for the jugular and maintaining intensity throughout. It culminated in a ruthless shattering of hope for its wayward characters just as a bus of new characters arrived. “From” Season Two hits the ground running, picking up where the inaugural season left off to compound the mysteries, drama, and relentless horror.
After receiving a warning just as a storm rolled in out of nowhere to decimate the group’s plans to establish contact with the outside world, Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) rushes home to save his wife Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno), unaware that she’d already fallen into the gaping sinkhole beneath their house. As Tabitha and Victor (Scott McCord) fearfully navigate the monster-infested tunnels below, Jim seeks to dig her out with some help from others, just as the house caves in on them.

Plot: The series unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter. In season two, hidden truths about the nature and terrifying origins of the town begin to emerge, even as life for its residents is plunged into chaos by the arrival of mysterious newcomers.
Review: There are few things as entertaining as a great mystery series. When Lost debuted in 2004, every network tried replicating the balance of serial storytelling, mystery box thrills, and cliffhanger endings. The problem many of those series encountered were characters that audiences did not connect to. MGM+ series From, created by John Griffin, benefited from the skills of various cast and crew from Lost to help turn it into a hit when it premiered last year. Now, the second season of the series expands the ensemble and follows the Lost pattern by deepening the town’s mysteries surrounded by supernatural predators...

A couple months ago, we heard that season 2 of the series From would begin airing on MGM+ (formerly known as Epix) on April 23rd. Now a trailer for the new season has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
I haven’t watched the first season of From – our own Alex Maidy has, and said “From definitely is worthy of a multi-season run” (you can read his 7/10 review Here) – so I was surprised to see just how creepy the trailer for season 2 is. A quote in the trailer even confirms the show has creeped out the great Stephen King… so I’m definitely going to have to start watching this series.
Written and created by John Griffin, From is described as a “contemporary sci-fi horror series”. The show aims to unravel the mystery of a nightmarish town in middle America that traps all those who enter.

Sometimes when a horror franchise is really on a roll, we’ll get sequels that are just one year apart from each other. But the waiting period between Child’s Play 2 and the movie we’re looking at in the new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, Child’s Play 3 (watch it Here) was even shorter than a year. The third Child’s Play movie reached theatres just nine months after the second one! With such a quick development and production, is it any surprise that Child’s Play 3 turned out to be one of the least popular entries in the Chucky franchise? To find out all about the making of Child’s Play 3, check out the video embedded above.

The newest member in the killer doll pantheon, M3GAN is currently slaying at the box office, with a sequel already in early development at this time. Of course, killer dolls and toys are a subgenre in and of themselves in horror, and no face shines brighter than that of Chucky.
With M3GAN now providing Chucky with some excellent company on the Killer Doll Mount Rushmore, I think the time has come to give the oft dismissed third entry in the still ongoing Child’s Play franchise a reassessment – the Jack Bender-directed Child’s Play 3.
Long considered the black sheep of the franchise, it’s not particularly easy to find many champions of Chucky’s third outing. Creator, writer, and ongoing franchise shepherd Don Mancini has even voiced his disappointment in his own writing on the film. On top of that, the box office take was underwhelming, and fans are...

MGM+ president Michael Wright says transparency plays a key role in keeping storytellers and network execs on the same page when it comes to the fate and future of shows.
“I’ve been doing this long enough to know to have had that situation before, and in almost every instance we’ve been able to end long-term shows in a satisfactory way,” Wright said at Tuesday’s Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena during a panel discussion for streamer’s sci-fi series “From.” Wright introduced a slate of MGM+ shows, including “Murf the Surf” and “A Spy Among Friends.”
Wright’s words came after he was asked about the role TV executives play in a series longevity, as the industry is seeing an influx of shows being canceled before and after production or newly renewed series suddenly getting pulled.

Long before the days of "Breaking Bad," "Game of Thrones," and "Stranger Things," "Lost" was the "must-see" television show that everyone was obsessed with. You simply had to tune in to ABC each week to see the latest shocking plot twist. That shows how radically the entertainment industry has changed. Today, blockbuster shows with budgets that rival feature films are just as high profile as Hollywood's superhero movies. "Lost" set the precedent for the future of entertainment.
In addition to the stunning spectacle of the series, "Lost" employed some creative talents who would go on to be incredibly influential. The series was developed by Damon Lindelof, who would later create both the HBO sci-fi drama "The Leftovers" and the inventive reworking of "Watchmen." The pilot of "Lost" was directed by J.J. Abrams, and the brilliant score from Michael Giacchino made the show feel just as epic as anything that you'd see on the big screen.
