Sharon Horgan (‘Bad Sisters’ co-creator) on walking the ‘tight rope’ between comedy and drama [Exclusive Video Interview]
“It’s just walking a bit of a tightrope, really, but I feel like we were sort of doing that throughout because we had to balance comedy with drama — like really silly, stupid comedy with really brutal drama,” explains Sharon Horgan about the challenge of setting the right tone for “Bad Sisters,” the Apple TV+ series she co-created. We talked with Horgan as part of our “Meet the Experts” Writers Guild Award nominees panel. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Adapted from a Belgian series, “Bad Sisters” tells the story of the Garvey siblings: Eva (Horgan), Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), Ursula (Eva Birthistle), Bibi (Sarah Greene), and Becka (Eve Hewson). Grace’s husband John Paul (Claes Bang) is emotionally abusive, so the other four sisters hatch a plot to save Grace by killing her dastardly spouse. Along the way the show incorporates humor into its deadly-serious premise. “It was the trickiest part of it,

The daughter of U2 frontman Bono, Hewson can next be seen starring opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt in John Carney’s Flora and Son, which will premiere Sunday at the Sundance Film Festival.

Fellow Irish actresses Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Jessie Buckley (Women Talking) also will be feted March 9 at J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath’s Bad Robot production company in Santa Monica.

One Of The Scariest Scenes In The Children Thinks The Kids Aren't Alright

One Of The Scariest Scenes In The Children Thinks The Kids Aren't Alright
(Welcome to Scariest Scene Ever, a column dedicated to the most pulse-pounding moments in horror with your tour guides, horror experts Chris Evangelista and Matt Donato. In this edition, Matt makes a case against pregnancy in "The Children.")

Tom Shankland's kinderhorror meanie "The Children" isn't an actual reason to avoid childbirth. That's a joke. Although, I wouldn't recommend the film to newfound parents exploring the wonders of parenting. What occurs is along the lines of "Who Can Kill a Child?" and its remake "Come Out and Play," or "Children of the Corn," where innocence is a coverup for murderous intent. Doubly dreary around the holidays since a majority of Xmas traditions point towards making youngins happy.

"The Children" ranks high atop the list of anti-holiday horror movies. Instead of spending Christmas and New Year's partying or unwrapping presents, kiddies turn into killers who prey upon adults. Children couldn't be capable of such atrocious crimes,

‘Bad Sisters’ Creator Sharon Horgan Says a Holiday Tradition Helped Her Find a Key Location | Wrap Video
Jumping in a freezing cold body of water will definitely send adrenaline through your system, and if you’re making a TV show, it could also help inspire a great idea — like where to shoot a significant scene. That’s the story behind a key set location in the Apple TV+ series “Bad Sisters,” creator Sharon Horgan revealed in the latest installment of TheWrap’s video series “How I Did It,” which is sponsored by Apple TV+.

“Being in a swimsuit and then freezing your t–ts off … I thought, ‘Why? Why did I do it?” Horgan, the creator, writer, executive producer and lead actress in “Bad Sisters,” said of deciding to film the series in Dublin Bay, an inlet of the Irish Seas on the east coast of Ireland.

But for Horgan, the initial attraction to the project was too tempting to turn down. “I just found the premise so inherently funny,

Awards spotlight: Will delightfully devious ‘Bad Sisters’ follow in the footsteps of ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘Dead to Me’?
Bad Sisters” is a sinister mystery from the beginning. In the opening scene we see Grace (Anne-Marie Duff) chopping onions as she weeps. But is she crying because of the onions, or the dead husband parked in her living room, wearing pajamas and sporting an erection she’ll have to hide from guests arriving for his funeral? That husband’s name is John Paul (Claes Bang) and he’s introduced to us as “The Prick.” He’s a jerk and Grace and her four sisters have reason to kill him, hence the plot of this devilishly fun family drama on Apple TV+.

The witty and darkly comedic murder mystery series certainly induces laughter, but will compete in drama categories at the upcoming Golden Globes and SAG Awards. Emmy nominee and BAFTA Award-winning creator and star Sharon Horgan developed the 10-episode series that debuted globally with the first two episodes on Friday,

But the siblings — Eva Garvey (Horgan), Grace Williams (Anne-Marie Duff), Ursula Flynn (Eva Birthistle), Bibi Garvey (Sarah Greene), and Becka Garvey (Eve Hewson) — find their adult happiness overshadowed by the oppressive John Paul Williams (Claes Bang), Grace's quietly cruel and overbearing husband.
