For the 15th anniversary of the "Battlestar Galactica" finale, I spoke with several of the show's writers and actors for an inside look at how it reached that conclusion. One of them was David Eick, the series' co-creator (with Ronald D. Moore). I asked the man who resurrected "Galactica" out of its campy 1970s roots why attempts to keep the franchise going faltered.
You see, "Battlestar" hadn't even been finished a year when a prequel spin-off debuted: "Caprica," an ensemble drama set more than 50 years before the series on the eponymous planet (one of the 12 colonies razed by the robotic Cylons at the outset of "Battlestar Galactica"). The series debuted in January 2010 and wrapped that November after a single, 19-episode first season -- its planned multi-year run aborted by low ratings.
Next, Eick and co. pivoted with "Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome," a second prequel (but after "Caprica") set during the first human/Cylon war.

As Peacock's reboot of Battlestar Galactica continues to take shape under the direction of Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, all eyes turn to the impending war between humanity and the Cylons. Also known as Cybernetic Life-Form Nodes, the Cylons are a race of robotic humanoids built for combat by Graystone Industries that wage war for control of the Twelve Colonies.
Each Cylon model is given a specific number and possesses different specialties, motives, personalities, and alliances as the eternal war continues to rage on. Although Peacock's anticipated reboot of BSG has yet to receive a release date, it's paramount to understand each Cylon's basic functions, primary objectives, and where their loyalties remain. Rather than breaking down every primitive and antiquated model type, it's best to differentiate the humanoid Cylons in Battlestar Galactica before the launch of Peacock's reboot.

The Picard family wine predates the Nazi occupation of France and has been available in the Star Trek universe since 2256. Jean-Luc Picard took over the winemaking business during his retirement to honor his family legacy and seek refuge. Chateau Picard wine is disliked by some characters in Star Trek, but is enjoyed by others, like Captain Christopher Pike.
Even before its many Star Trek: Picard appearances, Château Picard has been shipping bottles of Bordeaux across the galaxy throughout Star Trek's history. Now that he's - mostly - retired from Starfleet, Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) keeps the family business of winemaking running, a role that his father had always wanted for him. Jean-Luc Picard's issues with his father are well-documented, most notably in Star Trek: Picard season 2 when the meddling of Q (John de Lancie) allowed Jean-Luc to get to the heart of the childhood trauma at the root of their estrangement.

Katee Sackhoff is open to returning in the Battlestar Galactica reboot, but it depends on the script and who is involved. The reboot has experienced creative turnover and delays, but the current creative team is now in place. Sackhoff and other cast members will decide whether to return once the scripts are finished.
Battlestar Galactica star Katee Sackhoff is seemingly open to returning in the reboot, on a few conditions. Aired from 2004 to 2009 on the Sci-Fi Channel, the re-imagining of the 1978 Battlestar Galactica series follows a similar story involving the crew of the titular spaceship journeying towards Earth under the threat of an old enemy known as the Cylons. The Battlestar Galactica cast includes Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer, and Grace Park.

Q's motivation in creating a dystopian alternate reality in Star Trek: Picard season 2 was flawed; he could have achieved his goal by repeating the classic Tng episode "Tapestry" instead. Annie Wersching's portrayal of the Borg Queen in Picard season 2 brought a unique loneliness and vulnerability to the character, providing a fresh spin on the Borg's desire for assimilation. Despite some flaws in the overall story logic, Picard season 2 still had great Star Trek moments, including John de Lancie's brilliant performance as a malevolent Q and the exploration of a Mirror Universe-like dystopia.

Executive producer Sam Esmail provides a promising update on Peacock's Battlestar Galactica reboot, revealing that he just read a "great outline" for the show. The reboot was first announced back in 2019, but updates have since been hard to come by. With the WGA strike over, development work can now continue. The show will be a reboot rather than a continuation, suggesting it will be a fresh take with an entirely new cast.
The announced Battlestar Galactica reboot gets a promising update from executive producer Sam Esmail. Serving as a reimagining of the 1970s cult sci-fi, Battlestar Galactica aired from 2004 to 2009. After several short-lived spinoffs and expansions, the series is next set to return as a reboot, with Peacock announcing the project back in 2019. Development on the reboot series accompanies work on a Battlestar Galactica movie, which has been stuck in development hell since around 2010.

The vampire killers have essentially lost by the final scene of Castlevania: Nocturne. Richter, Annette, Tera, and Maria’s plan to destroy the Abbot’s Forgemaster machine has failed miserably, Tera is forced to sacrifice herself to Erzsebet Báthory in order to save Maria, and now the remaining heroes are on the run. There’s basically nothing stopping Drolta Tzuentes and her legion of monsters from hunting down their opponents. But just as a bloodthirsty Drolta is about to strike at her prey, a sword pierces her through the heart. And it’s no ordinary blade that finally takes down the vicious vampire but the one belonging to Alucard.
Yes, James Callis returns as the son of Dracula in the final moments of Nocturne, setting up what will likely be a much bigger role for the fan-favorite dhampir in season 2. His surprise cameo makes a lot of sense,...

Another fictional vampire aims to destroy the world, and just in time for Halloween. This coming Thursday, Netflix will be returning to the world of its critically and commercially acclaimed Castlevania series for the first time since 2021 with the spin-off Castlevania: Nocturne. The original Castlevania was a gem, one of the rare video game adaptations that beat the odds and offered a quality story on its own merit. Its emphasis on unrelentingly graphic horror and devastating pathos backed by nuanced scripting, exemplary characters, and astonishingly atmospheric animation from the underrated Powerhouse Animation Studios showcased the artistic heights the medium is capable of. The unlikely friendship between co-protagonists Trevor Belmont (Richard Armitage), Sypha Belnades (Alejandra Reynoso), and Adrian Tepes/Alucard (James Callis) won audiences over the most — a meeting of opposites who made each other stronger when they united. The final season ended things as happily as possible for the trio,...

A new Battlestar Galactica series could explore the changing relationship between humanity and technology, making it relevant to today's discussions on Artificial Intelligence and its impact on society. A sequel show set in the far future could build on the themes and continuity introduced by Ronald D. Moore's BSG revival, while also delving deeper into the origins of the conflict between humans and Cylons. Rather than repeating past mistakes, a sequel should explore how humanity attempts to break the cycle of violence and destruction, offering a fresh and socially relevant take on the Battlestar Galactica universe.
The ending of Ronald D. Moore's Battlestar Galactica secretly set up a perfect opportunity for a modern reboot decades later. A new BSG reboot has been mooted for years, but to date nothing concrete has been confirmed. Castlevania: Nocturne is set hundreds of years after the original series, taking place during the late 18th Century in the midst of the French Revolution. The new series introduces Richter Belmont, a descendant of Trevor and Sypha, who teams up with other magic users to defeat powerful vampires and their plans for world domination. While there may not be direct connections to the original plot points, Castlevania: Nocturne features similar elements such as vampires plotting to roam freely and a powerful vampire known as the Messiah aiming to take over the world.

Captain Archer broke the mold of previous Enterprise Captains by adopting a contemporary style, with casual dress and colloquial speech, reflecting the 22nd-century setting of Star Trek: Enterprise. Unlike other Enterprise Captains, Archer didn't have the father issues and familial trauma that characters like Picard had, as he had a good relationship with his father and devoted his life to exploring the galaxy. Captain Archer was the first to bring a pet aboard the Enterprise, his beloved beagle named Porthos, creating a unique bond between man and dog in the vastness of outer space.
Star Trek: Enterprise's Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) both broke and created the mold of Captain of the Enterprise thanks to the series being a prequel. Set from 2151 to 2154, with its final episode glimpsing events from 2161, Enterprise chronicled the first starship by that name, the Nx-01, which was Starfleet's first Warp 5-capable starship that allowed for galactic exploration.

The animated Netflix series based on the Castlevania video game franchise wrapped up back in 2021 after a four season, 32 episode run – but if you were left wanting to see more Castlevania after watching that show, you’re in luck. Set to release on Sept. 28, 2023, the action-packed series chronicles the gory adventures of Maria Renard and Richter Belmont during the French Revolution. Battlestar Galactica dropped a more elaborate plan for the Colonial Fleet after the third episode of season 1. Ronald D. Moore's BSG reboot updated the story of Glenn A. Larson's 1970s sci-fi adventure series for the post-9/11 world of the early 2000s. For all its sci-fi action and adventure, the best episodes of Moore's Battlestar Galactica often revolved around the political posturing and power struggles within the Colonial Fleet. As TV drama broke away from the clearly defined barriers between "good" and "evil", BSG often proved that humanity's greatest threat was itself.
Originally, Ronald D. Moore had intended to focus on various ships within the Colonial Fleet as they sought out their new home on the fabled Earth. Moore told Empire back in 2016 that the original intention was to use "a variety of ships in the fleet, among them vessels that served as hospitals, prisons, schools and even malls" to...

Based on Konami's classic video game series of the same name, Castlevania premiered in July 2017 and ran for four seasons, with the final debuting in May 2021. The story sees Dracula wage war against all of humanity after the Church burns his beloved wife at the stake, claiming she was a witch.

The controversial finale of Battlestar Galactica continues to be a sore point for many of the show's fans, but it was a satisfying conclusion to the story of Ronald D Moore's reboot. It's easy to see why viewers were disappointed by how "easy" the discovery of Earth actually was in BSG's finale. Still, the role of Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) in delivering the colonists to their new home had been signposted since as far back as season 3. Starbuck's angelic role is tied into the most significant criticism of the Battlestar Galactica finale - that it was too "magical" or "spiritual" for a sci-fi show that always felt so grounded.
Battlestar Galactica's anachronistic technology was emblematic of the show's more realist approach to science fiction, which helped to tell a timely political story. In essence, the war between the Colonists and the Cylons playing out on the Sci-Fi Channel was...

Writers have had trouble adapting video games to movies and series for a long time. Among the notable failed adaptations of video games-to-movies are Resident Evil: Retribution, Postal, and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Creating a faithful yet different adaptation from a video game doesn’t always spell defeat, and the best recent example is the Netflix animated series Castlevania.
Castlevania is an adaptation of 1990's Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Dracula’s Curse and 2005's Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. It featured a simple singular story that involved the player moving throughout the country of Wallachia recruiting allies to kill Dracula. The first two seasons of the Netflix animated series follow this plot while further fleshing out the characters with various elements from other games. Premiering in 2017, Castlevania was an early indicator that video game adaptations did not have to be bad, and here is why the series was a hit with fans.

When most people think of anime, they think of some production, whatever it may be, that has its origin in Japan. Several popular anime of today, however, do not have completely Japanese creative teams at all. This is part of what makes them officially "anime" and not just anime-inspired, like shows such as Teen Titans, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and The Boondocks. Here's a list of anime that took the world by storm and surpassed expectations, even if they didn't come solely from the Land of the Rising Sun.

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard Season 3Star Trek: Picard season 3 completely ignored the Khan tease at the end of season 2. A thrilling reunion of Star Trek: The Next Generation's beloved cast that also introduced a plethora of new characters who quickly became fan favorites, Star Trek: Picard season 3 brought the Tng story to a rousing and satisfying end. Fueled by nostalgia for Tng, Picard season 3 was far better received than the previous seasons, which also had their own callbacks to The Next Generation and the greater Star Trek franchise.
Watching Star Trek: Picard seasons 1 and 2 wasn't required to enjoy season 3, but the final season did build upon what was previously established. Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard Finale - "The Last Generation"The return of Q (John de Lancie) in Star Trek: Picard's season 3 finale makes more sense of the trickster's convoluted season 2 storyline. In a surprise post-credits scene, Ensign Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) encountered his father's old cosmic sparring partner Q, in his quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-g. Despite his apparent death in Picard's season 2 finale, Q now has his sights set on Jack Crusher, for whom the trial of humanity is just beginning.
Now that Q's plans for the son of Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) have been revealed, it makes sense of his confusing plan from Star Trek: Picard season 2. Q's meddling with time was apparently a means to get Jean-Luc to confront his own father issues. However, it was never entirely clear why Q had to create a dystopian timeline, threaten the life of Picard's ancestor,...

Ronald D. Moore's 21st-century Battlestar Galactica reboot cleverly avoided falling into a common sci-fi trap, which effectively future-proofed the show's presentation of technology. While the utopian ideals of shows like Star Trek remain relevant to today's society, the tech used by the lead characters can sometimes feel dated in comparison to the technology of the 2020s. For example, the multiple handheld Padd computers that Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) consults look dated in an age of iPads and smartphones which can easily store multiple Starfleet reports inside one handy device.
The starships and technology in the Battlestar Galactica reboot were deliberately regressive in their design, which avoided the issue of it looking outdated to future generations. It was a decision that made sense within the context of the show, but the lack of futurism in Battlestar Galactica helped establish its contemporary political relevance. Without the distraction of anachronistic technology,...

The third season of Slow Horses hasn’t yet debuted, but the filming for the fourth season is already underway with a few new additions to the cast. Deadline has reported that Hugo Weaving (The Lord of the Rings), James Callis (Battlestar Galactica), Joanna Scanlan (Notes on a Scandal), Ruth Bradley (Guilt), and Tom Brooke (Empire of Light) have joined the cast for Slow Horses season 4.
Slow Horses is a darkly humorous espionage drama that follows a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 known un-affectionately as Slough House. Gary Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible leader of the spies, who end up in Slough House due to their career-ending mistakes as they frequently find themselves blundering around the smoke and mirrors of the espionage world. Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Episode 8 - "Surrender"There's a running joke in Star Trek: Picard season 3 that several characters don't like Château Picard wine gifted to them by Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). The Picard family had a long tradition of winemaking which led to conflict between Jean-Luc and his father Maurice Picard (James Callis). Maurice wanted Jean-Luc to continue the family business, while the young Picard dreamt of the stars and a career within Starfleet. After retiring from Starfleet, Jean-Luc moved back to Château Picard to continue producing the wine that his family has been making for centuries. However, it seems as if he's not cut out for the wine trade.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Picard." It also contains references to domestic and child abuse, so reader discretion is advised.
Art often imitates life, but in the case of "Star Trek: Picard," that seems completely intentional. The series has completely blurred the lines between Jean-Luc Picard, the Starfleet officer who likes his Earl Grey hot, and Patrick Stewart, the British actor who has become a worldwide treasure. The series deals heavily with the idea of legacy, and the third season has dug into the concept even further as Picard reconciles the fact that he has a long-lost son, Jack Crusher (Ed Speelers). Picard had a difficult childhood and contentious relationship with his own father (as detailed in season 2 of "Picard"), and it's clear that the idea of fatherhood makes him uneasy as a result. Stewart has been honest about his own struggles in childhood as well, revealing that...

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Episode 3 - "Seventeen Seconds"The long-awaited Star Trek: Picard season 3 heart-to-heart between Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) is one of Star Trek's greatest scenes. Picard season 3's premiere established the surprising fact that Beverly broke contact with Picard and the rest of her friends from the USS Enterprise-d and E for over 20 years. Picard and Captain Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) staged a mission to rescue Beverly, only to learn Dr. Crusher has an adult son named Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) - and Jean-Luc Picard himself is Jack's father.
Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 2, "Disengage," culminated in a powerful scene where Jean-Luc and Beverly came face-to-face for the first time in over two decades. Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 2, "Disengage."Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) has finally become a father in Star Trek: Picard season 3, but he was previously faced with this opportunity in the final season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The conclusion of Picard season 3, episode 2, "Disengage" confirmed what viewers had been suspecting all along, that Jack Crusher (Ed Speelers) is the son of Jean-Luc and Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden). Picard's issues with family and fatherhood have been well documented in Star Trek, from as far back as the season 4 episode "Family".

Jean-Luc's career in Starfleet was a way for him to avoid confronting his own childhood trauma. Having finally...

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 1, "The Next Generation."Star Trek: Picard season 3 has finally corrected an annoying mistake from the final scene of Star Trek Generations. Generations was the first film to feature the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, taking the baton from the cast of Star Trek: The Original Series after their successful six-film run. Generations garnered mixed reviews from fans and critics, and the Tng cast would enjoy significantly more success with their next film, Star Trek: First Contact.
Star Trek Generations is not without its charms. The initial meeting between Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the time-displaced Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) is fun, if a little underwhelming. Stewart does some of his very best acting as Picard in Generations, particularly the scene where he admits to Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) that his family died in a house fire on Earth.

There will be no third season of Blood & Treasure.
The treasure-hunting drama has been canceled after two seasons, according to TV Line.
No reason has been given for the cancellation, but the writing was on the wall when the show was renewed in 2019 while the first season was airing, and then the show disappeared.
It started its life on CBS, but it was announced in 2022 that the series would return with its long-delayed second season that year.
Given the length of time between seasons, many assumed the show was dead.
Fueling the rumors that the show was dead even more was that the cast moved on to other projects.
Co-creator Matthew Federman wrote the following on Twitter on the day of the Season 2 finale airing.

The Battlestar Galactica miniseries that kick-started Ronald D. Moore's re-imagining of the 1970s sci-fi show contains a contradictory plot hole involving Cylon biology. Moore's 21st century remake of Battlestar vastly updated the robotic Cylons of the original show, creating a more advanced, humanoid version. They looked like everyday humanoids, and each of the 12 models were supposed to be biologically indistinguishable from the human beings on the Twelve Colonies of Kobol.
The first humanoid Cylon model introduced in Moore's Battlestar Galactica was Number Six (Tricia Helfer) who was later revealed to be the lover of Gaius Baltar (James Callis). Number Six seduced Baltar and used him to infiltrate the Colonial Defense System ahead of the Cylons' devastating attack on humanity. Despite this, Gaius Baltar and Number Six would continue to be inextricably linked to each other throughout Battlestar. However, their first scene together contains a visual clue as to Six's true nature,...

Daniel, the mysterious Cylon Number Seven was introduced to solve one Battlestar Galactica story problem but ended up causing a few more. The identities of the Five - the mysterious Cylons responsible for the creation of the seven other models seen in the show - were revealed in the BSG season 3 finale, "Crossroads, Part II." After each character was drawn back together by a familiar melody, they all remembered who they were (with the exception of one model who was absent).
The shocking revelation in Battlestar Galactica's season 3 finale answered the question first asked by Number Three (Lucy Lawless), who sought to discover the identity of her creators. This post contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Picard" season 2.
On the cult TV series "Battlestar Galactica" (1978-1979), actor John Calicos played the evil Count Baltar, a human traitor who had sold out his species to the Cylons, a phalanx of genocidal androids who aim to destroy all humanity. Baltar was often seen in capes and robes and looked very much like a supervillain. In the world of "Battlestar," the Cylons have, in a sudden attack, destroyed the human homeworld. The remaining survivors must traverse through dangerous, enemy-laden space to the only known source of safety, a long-lost planet called Earth. Baltar would alternately betray the humans, but also secretly help them when he realized the depth of the Cylons' villainy.
The 2003 revival of "Battlestar Galactica" began with a massive miniseries experience, and the character of Baltar was reimagined as the more morally complicated Dr. Gaius Baltar, played by actor James Callis.

The animated Netflix "Castlevania" series has no shortage of talented voice actors, including Richard Armitage, Lance Reddick, and Bill Nighy, but one familiar voice might be harder to put a face on. Actor Emily Swallow is no stranger to genre storytelling, breathing life into characters from major geek properties in animation and live-action, but two of her most recent major roles have kept her face completely out of sight.
In "Castlevania," which expands on the lore from the Konami video game franchise, she voices the beautiful and tragic Lisa Tepes. Lisa is the beloved wife of Vlad Tepes (Graham McTavish), better known as Dracula, and together they have a son, Alucard (James Callis), who serves as one of the main protagonists of the series. Lisa was vital to the series, as her death causes Dracula to curse all of humanity and begin his war against them. She serves as the catalyst for incredible destruction,...

Blood & Treasure Season 2 will finally see the light of day.
As previously reported, Paramount+ will air the long-delayed second season, beginning Sunday, July 17th with two episodes.
Subsequent episodes will drop weekly on Sundays.
The decision means that viewers who watched on CBS will no longer be able to keep up to speed unless they watch on the streaming service.
The move to streaming worked for both Seal Team and Evil, with both shows scoring renewals following their launch on the streaming service.
It's unclear whether the long wait between seasons will affect the negotiations for a third season.
It's hard to believe any of the cast is still under contract, so it might be difficult to get everyone back together.
