“El Señor de los Cielos” will ramp up even more of the war on narcos as the Telemundo series enters its ninth season.
“This is a narco series, however, it deals with a bunch of things happening to the family in relationships [and] in the family ties, but people want to see more of the narco world, so we’re gonna make sure we bring more of that,” Telemundo Global Studios production and development EVP Karen Barroeta told TheWrap. “The war on the narcos between Colombia and Mexico is going to be coming back.”
As the series spotlights the narco world even more than before, audiences might recognize El Cabo, who makes his triumphant return for the full ninth season.
Protagonist Aurelio (Rafael Amaya) also returns better than ever for the next chapter in the series with a new lease on life, settling back into his beloved persona as a true...

In a casting coup for Telemundo, NBCUniversal Spanish-language network has enlisted Mexican telenovela superstar Fernando Colunga to star in several original productions.
The deal kicks off with Colunga tapped to star in “Malverde: El Santo Patron,” (“Malverde: “The Patron Saint”), Telemundo’s first “Super Series” drama done in a period setting. According to Telemundo Global Studios president Marcos Santana, the new pact marks Colunga’s return to television after he has worked in film and theater for the past four years.

Aside from his telenovelas, Cuban-American actor William Levy may be best known for his smooth moves on "Dancing With The Stars." But now, the 32-year-old hunk has another title to hang his hat on -- People en Espanol's 2012 "Sexiest Man Alive."
While Levy was snubbed for the English-language publication's most recent "Sexiest Man Alive" list -- Bradley Cooper took top honors -- the Spanish-language version ranked Levy as "El hombre más sexy" for the second year in a row, ahead of the likes of David Zepeda, Fernando Colunga and Fabián Ríos this week.
A shirtless Levy is featured on the September cover showing off his signature smile. But his stunningly good looks are not all the "Single Ladies" star has to offer. In an exclusive interview with People en Espanol, Elizabeth Gutierrez, Levy's significant other and mother of his two children, explained how he often helps around the house.

Taking its cue from an old Latin American proverb that contends, "A thief who steals from a thief will receive 100 years of forgiveness," Ladron que roba a ladron is a heist comedy about a heartless crook who is taken down by two former associates.
But the scam doesn't end there.
It doesn't require an Eagle Eye to see this American-produced, Spanish-language production for what it really is -- an obvious "Ocean's Eleven" knockoff, minus any of that franchise's hip sensibility.
Populated by Latino telenovela stars in a Los Angeles setting, this limited Lionsgate release is facing the tricky challenge of coaxing money out of an audience accustomed to seeing these folks for free, not to mention the fact that moviegoing is traditionally way down on the list of Labor Day weekend activities. DVD definitely would be a better bet.
Directed by TV veteran Joe Menendez from an uninspired script by JoJo Henrickson, Ladron follows the exploits of not-quite-reformed thieves Emilio (Miguel Varoni) and Alejandro (Fernando Colunga), who reunite for one big heist.
The target is Moctezuma Valdez (Saul Lisazo), a ruthless TV infomercial pitchman who has made millions shilling worthless personal-improvement products -- from weight-loss creams to cancer-curing elixirs -- to poor Latino immigrants.
Out to prove there is honor among thieves, Emilio and Alejandro assemble a team of actual day laborers to infiltrate Valdez's estate while emptying his gigantic vault and redistributing the wealth.
While the caper attempts to ape the "Ocean's" style -- right down to the credit sequences and Lisazo's passing resemblance to George Clooney -- it proves to be a pale imitation when it comes to sparkling repartee and crisp pacing.
At least give Menendez and his producers credit for delivering an ensemble who look like they stepped right out of a telenovela (with pit stops at the gym and tanning salon) and onto those sunny L.A. sets, where the perpetually blue skies have been dutifully captured by cinematographer Adam Silver.
