Babylon 5: 14 alternatives to a straight reboot

There are plenty of interesting directions a return to the Babylon 5 universe could take. Here are a few suggestions...

I read somewhere that J.M. Straczynski writes every day. That’s not surprising given his extensive body of work for television, motion pictures, novels and comics. He is best known for Babylon 5, of course. I remember what a lot of people used to say about Babylon 5, “How much can happen on a space station?” Well, a lot actually! And after five seasons of the original series, a bunch of made-for-tv movies and a couple of spin-offs, there are still plenty of stories left to tell.

That is why I was excited recently to read that Joe (apparently, he thinks you’re cool if you just call him Joe) was going back to work on Babylon 5. My excitement soon turned to dread when I found out that

Designer Creates Arrested Development Record Sleeves

Josh Cox of Colossus of Clout Design is no stranger to tireless researching in the name of brilliant design. His most recent fact-finding stint? Re-watching Arrested Development clips to create a set of album sleeves based on the show (we never said the legwork wouldn’t be fun). A spinoff of Ty Mattson’s Homeland project, Cox decided to create one sleeve for each character in Arrested Development. “It was fun doing ‘research’ to make sure I wasn’t missing some good song titles,” Cox said. “Lots of laughing hysterically at Arrested Development YouTube clips.” On May 26, Season 4 is set to...

Kenny Powers Returns For Second K-Swiss Campaign

No longer a spokesman, Powers is now the Mfceo.

Multi-league lockout threats. Sex scandals involving Perkins waitresses. Cameron Diaz hand-feeding A Rod popcorn in the stands during the Super Bowl.

The sports world has clearly gone pear shaped and Kenny Powers is looking to fix it.

Powers, the fictional star of HBO series Eastbound and Down, is back in his second campaign for K-Swiss shoes, but this time he’s not just a counterintuitive spokesperson, he’s the Mfceo (if you’ve seen the show you’ll know what the extra letters stand for. If not, give it a second).

K-Swiss and agency 72andSunny raised eyebrows last year when they debuted a campaign for K-Swiss’ new Tubes shoe fronted by the foul-mouthed, burned out pitcher character co-created and played by Danny McBride.

The campaign was notable for a few reasons, not least of which was the simple fact that a

Thank Odin! At Last, A ‘Thor’ Trailer That Will Make You Shout Excelsior!!

It took a looong time but finally, we have a great Thor trailer. I’ve been skeptical ever since the first teasers went up. The Comic-Con footage was just a jumble of scenes thrown together. I realize that there’s a fish-out-water element about Thor and this may be extreme but there was some real concern we would get a more polished version of Earth Girls Are Easy or dare I say it, Encino Man! I’m joking of course because I have faith in Kenneth Branagh but it was hard not to be skeptical.

The Super Bowl trailer left me feeling the same, but this, this changes things. This trailer is a real glance at how the film will unfold without major plot spoilers. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) looked larger than life, we get an excellent look at Loki (Tom Hidddleston) in helmet, our vision of Asgard gets expanded and

Rene Russo and More Join the Cast of Thor

The cast of Thor is filling out just in time to start production in mid-January. Variety reports that Rene Russo has joined the Kenneth Branagh production in the role of Frigga, wife of Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and step-mother of Thor (Chris Hemsworth).

Russo isn't the only one joining the cast. Joseph Gatt (Pulse) announced on his website that Gatt was "prepping for his most prominent job to date: a (secret) role in the forthcoming Marvel Studios film Thor, slated for release in 2011." Speculation has Gatt cast in the role of The Executioner, though the character is not confirmed to be in the movie.

Josh Cox (Last House on the Left) and Troy Brenna (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has also joined the cast in unspecified roles.

CSI not-so-boldly goes to a science fiction convention

The original CSI series has a habit of setting episodes in the worlds of various subcultures -- they've had cases about furries, vampires and the Bdsm scene. Surprisingly, it's taken until the ninth season for them to get around to solving a crime at a science fiction convention.

Tune in tonight to CBS at 9 Pm Est for the episode "A Space Oddity," where two of the lab rats, Hodges and Wendy, go to blow off steam at a convention for a fictional show called, "Astro Quest" (that bears a striking resemblance to a Certain Program about a 5-Year Mission) and find their work following them when a murder takes place.

This episode is going to be a field day for TV Sf fans -- behind the scenes, it's a Star Trek/Battlestar Galactica reunion party (with quite a few other series represented).  If you're a credits reader, you may recall

"The Last House on the Left" review. Delivers a chilling tale.

The Last House on the Left reviewby Eric Sloss, Writer Famed horror director Wes Craven made his grand entrance into the film world with the movie “The Last House on the Left”. This was a chilling low budget story about two teenage girls who get kidnapped, raped and murdered. The parents of one of the girls get their revenge when the murderers unknowingly stop for the night at their house. Interestingly enough Craven drew some inspiration from the Vietnam War which was still raging on in 1972. People by then were numb by all the violence shown on the evening news. This film certainly awoke people from this slumber. Many audience members were shocked by the realistic nature of the killings and rapes. The killers weren’t just some monsters, but flesh and blood human beings. Several countries around the world banned the movie from playing and it took several attempts

The “Watchmen” charge into theatres by Peter Dimako, Editor Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Watchmen,” one of the most anticipated releases ever, finally finds release this weekend in 3,611 locations nationwide. Ratings around the web from every day readers as well as writers have been positive with the majority liking the film. Two of our writers gave this a solid 4/5 ratingand were impressed with helmer Zack Snyder’s workmanship. The film stars Malin Akerman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Carla Gugino, Billy Crudup, Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Matthew Goode, Stephen McHattie, Matt Frewer, Niall Matter and Sonya Salomaa. Posting a top spot is a given, the question is, how much and will the hype pay off? Naturally, since nothing would dare contend in the same weekend as “Watchmen,” it is the only wide opener of the week. The remainder of the field is limited to indie openers. They are as follows: "Phoebe in Wonderland" opens into Ltd.
