Leslie Bovee (Maraschino Cherry) stars as Champagne, a young, attractive and majorly successful advertising executive and vice president of her fathers cosmetic company. She’s on the search for a new chauffeur. Thankfully, she may be in luck. Enter Harry ((he’ll be doing that a lot), a simple everyday Joe, played by John Leslie (Dracula Sucks). Harry works as a small time chauffeur, but also applies to be a bouncer at a strip joint. Even though he makes a Great first impression with his new potential employer and her friend, John puts professionalism before leisure and pleas to his employment agent Gladys Whitmore, played by Kay Parker (Untamed), that his job provides him with too many horny women! Unfortunately for him, Gladys is also a bit of a ‘freak’. Sick of it all, Harry hears of Champagne’s search and does what any sensible person would do. Yes, you guessed it!

Same crowd, different wedding. On Saturday (July 30), Britain's royal family again turned out in their best togs to celebrate a wedding.
While it wasn't quite the match of April's nuptials between heir to the throne Prince William and his universally adored bride Kate Middleton, the family still managed to put on a good show for the marriage of Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The sun was shining as Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Prince Harry, Wills and Kate and the rest of the royals witnessed the wedding.
Phillips, a star equestrian in England, is the Queen's eldest granddaughter; her mother is Princess Anne. Tindall, meanwhile, is the captain of England's national rugby team. And the avid sports-couple will forgo a honeymoon to get back to their athletic commitments. Phillips has to return to show-jumping and Tindall is due at rugby training camp on Monday.

Rating (ouf of 5): ***
In American: The Bill Hicks Story, British filmmakers Matt Harlock and Paul Thomas set out to tell the tale of the influential comedian who was underappreciated in his time and then taken from us too soon. The Texas-raised Hicks was a remarkable comic who dared tell truths in this country in a time (the 1980s and into the 90s) when a lot of Americans lived in a trance and didn't want to hear them told so bluntly--or at all. The film will probably be more of a revelation to the uninitiated than to longtime fans (such as myself), but fans of the cult comic will also find much to appreciate here.

Reminiscent of Corneliu Porumboiu's Police, Adjectiv for its marathon run time (film is easily over the two-hour mark, but doesn't feel like it) and wry sense of humor in what essentially tackles the underlining politics in procedural police work, Ceylan's Grand Prix winner (tied with the Dardennes' Kid With a Bike) has found a home with The Cinema Guild folks and though no immediate plans were made for a 2011 release, expect the ideal locations of Tiff and Nyff to provide settings for the North American and U.S premieres. Gist: Once Upon a Time in Anatolia is lyrically described as set in a small town is akin to journeying in the middle of the steppes: the sense that "something new and different" will spring up behind every hill, but always unerringly similar, tapering, vanishing or lingering monotonous roads... A better breakdown synopsis comes from the press release: A haunting...

American: The Bill Hicks Story more than likely wasn’t something you caught in the theaters, but BBC is bringing it to blu-ray and has sent it on to us here at Tmp so we can review this not so conventional documentary.
The Set-up
Here’s the official synopsis:
American: The Bill Hicks Story brings to life the amazing true story of one of modern culture’s most iconic figures. Much more than just a comedian, Bill Hicks has become an inspiration to millions around the world. As a rebellious teenager, he discovered that comedy was a way to break all the rules, but then he found it could also open people’s minds. Bill’s comedy challenged the injustices of life head on, but his uncompromising approach met with conflict in America and it was instead on the international stage where he found fame. In 1993, on the verge of wider success,...

As fans eagerly await Peter Jackson's next video diary from the set [1] of The Hobbit, the super-interactive director has begun a new feature on his Facebook page. Jackson will, once again, be answering 20 specially selected questions over the next few months and the first one is now up. The question is: Are we going to see the White Council attacking Dol Guldor? Jackson's answer not only gives an idea of the scope of these films (which were just given official release dates and titles [2]) , but reveals an exclusive new image. Don't worry, it's spoiler free and a little bit of a joke. Read what he had to say, what the question means and check out the image after the break. This all went down on Jackson's Facebook [3] page which is fast becoming your one stop shopping destination for official pre-release Hobbit news. Actually, Jackson answered two questions in this first installment,...

All right "Hobbit" fans, I hope you've been paying attention to Peter Jackson's page on Facebook. The last time around, back when he was working on "Lord of the Rings," he answered twenty questions asked by fans from all around. Now he's doing the same again for "The Hobbit." He gives a pretty cool answer to the first official question with one neat picture along with it. Check it all out below.Official Question #1Valeria Kementari asked, "Are we going to see the White Council attacking Dol Guldor?"This was quite a popular topic, with John Liddle, Toby Phillips and Seth Donald, along with many others, asking variations of this same question. I'm not going to say just what and when, but I will confirm that both the White Council and Dol Guldur will feature in the movies. And not just in one scene either. Just how to visualise it has been a challenge,...

Here are his first questions and answers. If you want to ask him questions, feel free to jump over to his Facebook and do so!
Question #1
Steven Beddoe asked, “Will you have time to sift through 4,000 questions just to answer twenty of them?”
Yes, I will. I’ve been very busy recently, not just with shooting, but with location scouting and prep work during our days off, so I’ve found it hard to get to the questions. However, today I have enjoyed sitting down and reading through them all. I’ll get started and continue to answer what seem to be the most popular questions during the next few weeks (as well as some one-off, quirky ones!

There have been a lot of rumors lately about the future of the Terminator franchise, with Arnold Schwarzenegger very vocal about how much he wants to make another film and Fast Five director Justin Lin also interested in taking over the franchise that James Cameron started. But none of these rumors could come true until someone finally bought the franchise's rights from hedge fund Pacificor and committed to actually making a movie out of them; starting earlier this week Lionsgate Films and the production company Annapurna Films were duking it out to become the new home of the T-1000 and friends. We threw our support behind Annapurna Films and its head Megan Ellison, since she had also secured financing for new films from Kathryn Bigelow, Paul Tomas Anderson and John Hillcoat and seemed to know from quality filmmaking. Now you can officially start hoping that Ellison's participation puts the Terminator...

Interview - Matt Harlock and Paul Thomas
Directors Matt Harlock and Paul Thomas just had to answer one question for me, just one, when it came to the fame and popularity of Bill Hicks when he was still walking back and forth across the stand-up stages: What made him so popular in the UK?
I could easily understand why jokes, an inherently idiomatic expression of specific cultures and not given to easy translation, wouldn’t fly but what was it about Bill that made audiences in another country embrace this defacto expat? He was revered by a culture who “got it” while American late night comedy consumers didn’t get what was so endearing about the man with a wicked mouth.

Good Charlotte choose to film a Funny Or Die video to support their song "Last Night". Benji Madden, Joel Madden, Paul Thomas and Dean Butterworth play "Family Double Dare", taking part in the classic Nickelodeon game show's goofy challenges like "Breakfast in Bed" and "Ready, Set, Go".
The boys are in the red team a.k.a. Cowabunga! and the Twins, facing off the blue team a.k.a. the Cheese Cutters. Unfortunately, they don't make it to the finale and are forced to watch the blue team from the sideline. Hosting the game show is former "Double Dare" host Marc Summers.

Since Robert Downey Jr. dropped out of Sam Raimi’s Oz, The Great and Powerful, his schedule had an opening for this fall, and he’s looking to fill that gap with Inherent Vice. Paul Tomas Anderson has been working on an adaption of the Thomas Pynchon novel of the same name since 2009, while also trying to get another film off the ground titled The MAster. Downey will be shooting The Avengers this year, reprising his role as Iron Man once again, and then will begin work on the third Iron Man film.
As it stands right now, Downey has not officially signed on to Anderson’s film, but chances are he will. Inherent Vice follows the story of “a stoner detective who gets wrapped up in a number of mysteries in 1969 L.A. while the Manson Family trial growls in the background.” Sounds like a perfect role for Downey,...

There's no question as to which section Magnolia Pictures' Tom Quinn was checking out during Tiff last month. Fresh from a world preem in the Midnight Madness section in Toronto last month, Magnet Releasing have grabbed the rights to Brad Anderson's Vanishing on 7th Street and are setting it up for a February release. Even though I didn't consider the film coverage worthy at Tiff and while I prefer Paul Thomas and Wes' work, I consider myself an Anderson fan enough to want to check this out on home vid - Screen Daily called the pic a "subtler, more stimulating variation on the traditional horror/zombie/apocalypse film." A mysterious, seemingly global blackout yields countless populations to simply vanish, leaving only their clothes and possessions behind. A small handful of survivors band together in a dimly-lit tavern on 7th Street, struggling to combat the apocalyptic horror. Realizing they...

I'm kind of in awe of Paul W.S. Anderson. The man has made nothing but crap for his entire career -- two Mortal Kombat movies and the worst entry in either series, Avp: Aliens Vs. Predator. The best he's got under his belt are Resident Evil, a enjoyably trashy video game adaptation, and Death Race, which succeeds only because of its cast.
And yet not only does he still get money to make movies, but he still gets solid casting as well. Here's the (thoroughly uninteresting) poster for his adaptation of The Three Musketeers (click to enlarge):
I mean, fuck. Look at that. Now, I know Milla Jovovich will star in anything he makes because, well, they're married. But Mads Mikkelson? Ray Stevenson? Juno Temple? I figured after Cracks she'd be making her way up the indie ladder, but apparently not. And let's not even start on trying...

Have you ever wished that The Twilight Zone contained more hardcore sex? Well director Paul Thomas has answered your prayers with The Twilight Zone: Porn Parody. The adult Twilight Zone is not like the other porn parodies we are used to. Thomas' movie doesn't seem to be based on any original Twilight Zone episodes, and I don't think it conatins any humor. Instead the director seems to have crafted his own serious Twilight Zone tale. Don't expect any appearances from William Shatner or any "Eye of the Beholder" references. The film director's latest project, Trash Humpers, sees him return to the rebellious excesses of his youth. Where he's in good company
If you ever needed a reminder of just how important the disposable income of children is to the film industry, the summer release schedule should set you straight. Here, amid the just-about-pubescent whiff hanging over The A-Team and The Karate Kid and all the rest of it, is proof that when it comes to pulling in the serious money, much of it comes from the pockets of 12-year-old boys. But then, for those of us with high-falutin' ideas about film, there's another breed of young male we're just as beholden to: the enfant terrible, that species of director with a loud mouth and youth on their side.
At this point it may be apt to bring up the name of Harmony Korine, whose latest project Trash Humpers is released into British cinemas today.

A worthy tribute to the late, great comedian and iconoclast Bill Hicks. By Andrew Pulver
Ever since Bill Hicks's death in 1994 at the age of 32, the Texan comic has been subject to a creeping lionisation that has promoted him gradually into the upper reaches of those all-time greatest lists magazines and TV channels love to establish. I personally have never had a great deal of time for Hicks's shouty, hectoring comedy – it's like being trapped in a room with a sociology student who's just drunk a dozen espressos – but this is a really interesting film biography of him, mining the deepest reaches of his childhood and adolescence to produce a thoroughly convincing and detailed portrait.
Film-makers Matt Harlock and Paul Thomas – both British – are lucky that Hicks's family and childhood pals were happy to unburden themselves to camera, and fill in the blanks of Hicks's early years; they're even...

Kitcsch is taking the role that Jeremy Renner was initially circling until scheduling conflicts forced him to choose between this or Paul Thomas Anderon's forthcoming project. There aren't any specifics on his role yet, but Kitsch will certainly be right in the center of the story's naval battle against a water-bound armada of aliens. So Kitsch will either be playing the aforementioned Commanding Officer of a five-ship fleet. or one of five other men on the team working under him as they battle against aliens, called The Regents. that are out in the water building something that will be...

This fine documentary opens with a simple but salient point: who do we pay to talk to us? Politicians? Perhaps. Pastors? Maybe sometimes… The answer is comics. Comedians are the only people to whom we offer our money and say, “please talk to me… make me laugh at myself and the things around me.” In an age of global hostility, fear, and repression of thought and individuality, the voice of the comic is more essential than ever. We need comedians to remind us how farcical life is; and to poke fun at the institutions and zeitgeists that too easily become writ. Bill Hicks understood the importance of this role from an early age. As a restless teenager – trapped in his Southern Baptist Texan townhouse with his all-American, college-graduate family – Hicks would sneak out and head for the only comedy club within a million miles of his home… the Houston Comix Annex.

Paul Thomas Anderson's strange and disquieting 2007 masterwork shows us the past, present and terrifying future of our dysfunctional dependence upon oil
Towards the end of the decade, director Paul Thomas Anderson unburdened himself of this strange and disquieting masterpiece, a mesmeric and utterly distinctive movie, loosely based on Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel Oil! The film was of a higher order of intelligence and innovation than anything he had attempted before, and anything else in noughties Hollywood. It was the story of one tormented man – the lonely and driven oil prospector Daniel Plainview: a magnificent performance from Daniel Day-Lewis whose masterpiece this was, too. He revealed an effortless, seductive technique, almost a sensual pleasure to watch – rivalling and in fact surpassing Olivier in his silver-screen heyday.

Religious drama set in 1950s America will be fifth collaboration between director of There Will Be Blood and Oscar-winning actor
Director Paul Thomas Anderson will reunite with actor Philip Seymour Hoffman on Master, a religious drama set in 1950s America.
Hoffman acted in Anderson's debut feature Hard Eight back in 1996 and took supporting roles in Boogie Nights, Magnolia and Punch-Drunk Love. Master marks their fifth collaboration.
The film will star Hoffman as an intellectual in the mould of Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard, who sets up a successful faith-based organisation. Variety reports that the tale focuses on the relationship between "the master" and his pupil – a young drifter who joins the group and then starts to doubt its ideals and ambitions.
Master looks likely to be backed by Universal, although the studio has yet to officially green-light its estimated $35m (£21m) budget.

Writer/director Paul Thomas "There Will Be Blood" Anderson is developing his next feature, a period drama set in the 1950's, to star actor Philip Seymour "Magnolia" Hoffman playing the founder of a new religion.
Producer JoAnne Sellar has budgeted the film at $35 million, currently being set up at Universal, who are waiting to greenlight the project, dependent on Anderson delivering a screenplay that won't get the studio into hot water with religious groups, scientologists and mormons.
In the script, Hoffman will be known as 'The Master' Of Ceremonies, an intellectual who starts a faith-based organization in 1952.
At the heart of the story is the relationship between The Master and 'Freddie', a drifter who becomes the 'lieutenant' of the new religion.
Anderson says the film will follow how a belief system can easily graduate into an organized religion.
The last time a film-maker effectively tackled the subject, was in the...

I try not to get too fanboy when writing about things I really enjoy. I know, I know, it’s “bad journalism.” But sometimes I say shut the hell up rules and let me go nuts. If I were to refer to P.T. Anderson (now going by Paul Thomas) using Kanye West as my influence, I’d say, “you’re a great director and all, But P.T. Anderson Is The Greatest Director Of All Time!” I can’t tell you how often I quote his second feature, Boogie Nights, and I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen Magnolia. So when new information on his upcoming projects pop up, I get really, really excited.

Alexa here from Pop Elegantiarum, sharing something for your holiday wish lists. I'm utterly in love with these director coasters by Kelly Puissegur, a.k.a retrowhale.
They make me want to drink more coffee. And have more intense film discussions over said coffee. Woody, Wes, Jim J, Paul Thomas, Martin, Quentin, Noah, both Spikes...I'm sure there are more auteurs I'd like her to include, but I'm too in love right now to think straight. Will someone nice please buy me some? Thank you.

Detroit – Detroit, which has long faced economic collapse and neighborhood abandonment, woke up on Monday to find itself under siege by a foreign army. The army arrived with camera booms, military trucks, massive pennants and green camouflage extras for a remake of the 1984 action film "Red Dawn," turning a normally lightly populated Motown intersection into a hub of activity.Several blocks of downtown Detroit will be closed off for up to two weeks during the filming, which appeared to have little impact on traffic flow, but drew curiosity seekers on foot.Michigan has wooed filmmakers to the state with incentives in a bid to diversify an economy that remains very dependent on the health of the still-struggling U.S. auto industry. Clint Eastwood filmed "Gran Torino" in the Detroit-area.The Michigan statewide unemployment rate stood at 15.2 percent in August, with Detroit's nearly double that."It is rough out here," said Edwin Codwell,...

Yusef Muhammed, the co-designer the 2009 Dyson Award-winning firefighting kitchen faucet, discusses the challenges it meets and the concepts his team discarded.
In 2008, Yusuf Muhammed and Paul Thomas were graduate design students at the London's Royal College of Art, facing a class assignment to create a fire-safety product. That would have been hard enough, but the real world was also closing in, and fast. It was their last year in school, and, as Muhammed says, "We didn't want to create just a piece for our portfolios. We were really keen on something that could be commercialized."
What they produced was a fire-fighting kitchen faucet, the Automist, which has just won the 2009 James Dyson Award.
While the solution they eventually reached seems straight forward, the idea didn't arrive fully formed.
After intensive research, lengthy interviews, and product surveys Muhammed and Thomas produced a bushel of ideas, including "smoke hoods" that could act as temporary gas masks,...

The Automist could be a breakthrough in home safety--a kitchen-faucet sprinkler system that controls residential fires.
After months and months of brilliant ideas, the winner is in: The 2009 James Dyson Award goes to Yusuf Muhammed and Paul Thomas, for their design concept, the Automist. The runners up were Min Kyu Choi's Folding Plug and Jude Pullen's Pressure Alert.
In the few years that it has existed, the Dyson Award has arguably become the world's most prestigious student competition, by virtue of the intense competition from thousands of entries, which compete for country and worldwide awards. Though Dyson insists that the awards aren't a recruiting exercise, many entrants have gone on to work for Sir James. Still others have quickly established new design practices as a result.
Muhammed and Thomas, who are students at London's Royal College of Art, will split a £10,000 prize. Their university gets a £10,000 prize as well.

Michael Wadleigh’s Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music, a comprehensive, Oscar-winning documentary of the biggest musical event the world has ever seen, makes its way onto Blu-ray glory with the Director’s Cut (1994) in a truly impressive presentation Warner Brothers has chosen to call The Ultimate Collector’s Edition. Lasting just 15 minutes shy of 4 hours, Woodstock features performances by musicians who left a lasting impression on the world scattered in between clips of the festival, its audience and its organizers.
The significance of Woodstock is hard to overplay; in an age of public turmoil, when rifts existed between countless subsets of American culture, Woodstock set everything aside for three days political expression through music. Some artists delivered mini-sermons before playing their set while others let their instruments do all the talking. There are those who insist Jimi Hendrix’s rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” used guitar distortion to...

They both push envelopes and effortlessly combine risque adult subjects with such strangely sincere innocence.

The night didn't end with Kanye's post-VMAs performance as the stars headed out to the after parties. The girls of The Hills posed together at the Paramount Studios bash before Audrina headed to InTouch Weekly's Icons and Idols party at Chateau Marmont. The Veronicas, Leona Lewis and Good Charlotte all hit the stage performing fun sets for the packed room. We were lucky enough to be there and have some great sightings like the girls of 90210, Dave Annable from Brothers and Sisters and even Ryan Phillippe who stayed covert in his favorite hat. Downstairs, Samantha Ronson spun while Lindsay Lohan topped off her very busy weekend — Fashion Week to Toronto to the VMAs — sitting on the booth right next to her girl chatting with friends and looking hot wearing a very revealing halter top. The Veronica's kicked things off great but it was Leona Lewis who got the crowd excited.

- Rather than eventually adhering to a "that's the way the cookie crumbles" postmortem, indie distributors and mid-range production companies are making not so subtle changes to their future slates. When the profit returns are in the minus, then art films become fewer and far between. Following in the proactive steps of Paramount Vantage and Participant Productions -- we now find Sidney Kimmel Entertainment making the same sort of turnaround. Now in Ske's driver's seat we find Bingham Ray, he leaves his marketing post and replaces Bill Horberg as the head of production. Horberg will return to his indie roots and has worked out a deal that would give Ske a first look deal for his future content. Does this mean we won't be seeing future oeuvres like Synecdoche, New York's? The market will always include those that resemble the Wes Andersons, Paul Thomas Andersons and the Coens of the filmmaking world,

The Paramount Vantage epic is proving to have a filming-lot base full of supporters with Julian Schnabel's The Diving Bell and the Butterfly proving to be a popular second place choice. The anomaly here is: where is Ncfom among the list of winners and noms? What the last 24 hours is telling curious award season onlookers is the Coens and PTA are canceling each other's film out: each year-end critic associations are compelled to go with one or the other and rarely are we seeing both films part of the same list of season kudos. The film, written by Dan Kay and based on a short story China Mieville, will be produced by Paramount’s Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions, along with his colleague Amy Israel. Steven Schneider and Ian Levy will serve as executive producers. The intricate story revolves around a psychological phenomenon called ‘pareidolia.’ When a man’s daughter after uncovering a demonic force only she can see, he relentlessly fights the supernatural to bring her back. Like Silent Hill, or a really deranged version of Labyrinth. No word yet if David Bowie will star and sing and dance in this film.
