One might hope upon watching The Last Horror Movie that if it is not indeed the last of its genre, that perhaps it might be the last found footage horror movie. Alas, it came out in 2003, and that hopeful prophecy has most definitely not come to pass. The once-fresh subgenre has since been beaten into the dust by an overabundance of films that are low on budget as well as creativity, using found footage as a crutch upon which to lean a weak story. This one in particular, which has recently been re-released on DVD via Fangoria's Gorezone, focuses on Max (Kevin Howarth), a wedding videographer and serial killer living in London. Max has enlisted an unnamed assistant (Mark Stevenson) off the streets to help him document his killings, as well as random scenes of his regular life, on video, in order to show the world that the face of...

Found footage horror films are usually a tough trick to pull off well. Not only do they require realistic performances and events so that audiences are (at least partly) convinced that what they’re seeing is real enough for the length of the movie, but the filmmakers have to also balance that with telling a compelling, terrifying and – crucially – entertaining story. Some are more successful than others, with The Blair Witch Project and the [Rec] series being more obvious examples, but the found footage train has seemed to be running out of steam lately with many of the films made in the style regurgitating tropes that were only developed in the last twenty years and offering fuzzy, ill-executed plots that often only resolve when the protagonists buy the farm.

Aman (Snipes) is on a mission of vengeance to kill the men who abused the woman he loved, resulting in her death. Or rather, he was on a mission of vengeance, and it was successful. The acting performances in The Seasoning House are all amazing. The young Rosie Day is captivating in her role of Angel hitting every emotional point necessary at just the right times. Sean Pertwee (Event Horizon Dog Soldiers Devils Playground) as the militia commander Goran is fantastic as well walking a line between reserved and controlled soldier and completely out of control essence of rage to perfection. Kevin Howarth does a fine job as brothelowner Viktor and every one of the captive girls are completely heartbreaking in their portrayals of sex slaves for hire. Every performance from beginning to end works extremely well a testament to the casting of this film and also the script and direction.

Wesley Snipes is back baby! If I seem excited, I kinda am. I made peace with guilty pleasures a long time ago so I can speak frankly about being a fan. I love Blade in the comics and thought Snipes was a perfect choice for the big screen incarnations. If
Wesley Snipes did nothing more for his entire career except sign Blade posters at horror cons, I would be there. Guess what though, he’s been working pretty consistently since his IRS woes, and although it may not be as quite the high profile gigs he may have been used to, he’s doing alright.
When I noticed Gallowwalkers was streaming on Netflix, the only thing that could have made me the slightest bit apprehensive was if it had been a musical. No, I’m not anti-musical by the way, but if film were food,...

Some horror movies are so horrible they are tough to watch. When characters go beyond, way beyond, what most people would consider civilized behavior into the realm of headline making atrocity you want to look away. But if the film makers are sincere, if the finished film has something to say about the human condition and is not just exploitation , you end up having to watch. You owe it to yourself, again if the film is well made, to watch, just to remind yourself what inhuman monsters people can be.
In the last few years a new kind of horror movie has been coming out of Europe. Films that push the envelope in recounting the horror of human existence, of what atrocity really looks like, up close and personal. Films like Martyrs, Irreversible, High Tension and Calvaire, also A Serbian Film (although I have not gotten to see that one.

Wesley Snipes is one '90s action regular we'd love to see stage a big comeback. He's been off the movie grid for a few years due to legal troubles, but now that he's back in the marketplace one of the last movies he made is finally seeing the light of day. It's called Gallowwalkers, and it's a supernatural Western featuring Snipes as a cursed gunslinger. His curse? His enemies keep coming back from the dead. You'd think after a while he'd just stop shooting people, but that's kind of hard to do when there are other men roaming the land, laying waste to entire towns in search of Snipes. And today we've got a clip of the villain (played by Kevin Howarth) leading the manhunt squaring off against some local lawmen. It does not end well for them...

Director: Andrew Goth. Writers: Andrew Goth and Joanne Reay. Cast: Wesley Snipes, Kevin Howarth, Riley Smith, Tanit Phoenix, Simona Brhlikova and Steven Elder. Gallowwalkers is a film, which began production in 2006, in Namibia. This title experienced some stumbling blocks when the principal actor, Wesley Snipes, was arrested for tax evasion. This project was put on hold, until his release. And now, Gallowwalkers will soon be available to western and horror films fans. The film itself is a little convoluted and some of the editing techniques are a little choppy. However, Gallowwalkers offers an interesting take on a familiar genre, the western. Initially, the film's story is all over the place. Snipes plays Aman, a man seeking revenge. Aman is also cursed by the Devil? And, anyone that he kills will come back to life. So, his revenge does not go smoothly and his sidekick is more trouble than help. Aman...

The Seasoning House is yet another British horror starring Sean Pertwee. But don’t dismay, as director Paul Hyett, better known as one of the best special make-up effects artists working in film and television today, brings us his fairly accomplished debut.
Having worked on so many films with horror maestro Neil Marshall (The Descent, Doomsday, Centurion) as well as other Brit flicks like the probably-could-happen horror Eden Lake (2008) and Joe Cornish’s Attack The Block (2011), it was inevitable that Hyett’s first foray into directing would be in the genre he knows inside out (literally).
Hyett uses his skill as a special make-up effects artist extremely well in this strong opening movement with a gruesome scene involving the head of the house Viktor (played by Kevin Howarth) and a fresh batch of pretty, young girls setting the tone for the rest of the film. New girls come in every...

Most films are a passive experience. They require little thought, little engagement, little effort on the part of the audience. They’re entertainment, pure and simple, often part of a night out, a socially acceptable way for you and your significant other to sit quietly in the dark, tolerating each other’s company. You lay your money on the counter, you buy your gallon of fizzy corn syrup, your bucket of popcorn and your stale nachos spaffed with bright industrial yellow cheese (that’s a lotta corn you’re consuming, by the way…), you slump in your seat and you let the film wash over you. A couple of hours later you stumble, blinking like a mole, back into the light, your wallet several pounds lighter, your gut several pounds heavier and your senses numbed by watching robots knock seven shades out of each other or...

Brutal, harrowing, unflinching and relentless. In The Seasoning House young girls are prostituted to the military. An orphaned deaf mute is enslaved to care for them. She moves between the walls and crawlspaces planning her escape. Planning her ingenious and brutal revenge. The Seasoning House looks to be a grim unforgiving (think Taken meets Hostel with a strong emphasis on realism) tale of outright chaos and terror. From this vantage point it seems to be the kind of picture that genre fans completely flip their lids over. The film is directed by Paul Hyett and written by Paul Hyett and Conal Palmer and stars Rosie Day Sean Pertwee (Dog Soldiers) and Kevin Howarth (The Last Horror Movie).

“The Seasoning House” has been highly anticipated by British genre fans, marking the directorial debut of Paul Hyett, a respected and prolific special effects craftsman who has worked on an impressive number of productions including “The Descent”, “The Woman in Black” and many more. Chosen for the opening night of London FrightFest 2012, the film has being going down well with fans and critics at a variety of international festivals, and has a solid cast that includes Rosie Day (“Ironclad 2”), Anna Walton (“Hellboy 2”) and Kevin Howarth (“The Last Horror Movie”), with much-loved Brit character actor and genre mainstay Sean Pertwee (“Dog Soldiers”) in an entertainingly villainous role. The film has a grim premise, being set in a Balkan brothel where unfortunate young women are kidnapped and forced into prostitution to service soldiers and mercenaries. Also living in the house is Angel (Rosie Day), a deaf mute girl orphaned by the conflict,...

"Out here they come back harder to kill." Now what is this? Back before Wesley Snipes got in trouble and went to prison, he shot a zombie western called Gallowwalkers. It drifted around, collecting dust for years after director Andrew Goth finished it, and recently reared its ugly heading, selling at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this month. Our friends at Bloody-Disgusting got their hands on the trailer and it's pretty much a must watch based on the concept - Snipes as a cursed gunman in the old west, the people he kills come back to life as undead zombies. Tanit Phoenix, Riley Smith, Kevin Howarth and Patrick Bergin co-star. Watch the first promo trailer for Andrew Goth's Gallowwalkers, originally from Bloody-Disgusting: A mysterious gunman is the son of a nun who breaks her covenant with God to ensure his survival. It's been a while now since we've heard from Wesley Snipes, who has been out of commission for three years while serving a prison sentence for tax evasion. His last major appearance on screen was in Brooklyn's Finest (unless you count his iPhone game Julius Styles: The International... and I don't think anyone does). However, you may recall that around the time he was being indicted he was in Namibia shooting a movie called Gallowwalker. Well, it appears that the movie is finally about to be released with a brand new title: Gallowwalkers! The movie stars Snipes as Aman, a mysterious gunman who suffers a curse that brings his victims back to life as undead creatures. Together with a young warrior named Fabulos (Riley Smith) he takes on the evil forces and their leader Kansa (Kevin Howarth). WWE star Diamond Dallas Page also co-stars. The movie still does not have an official release date,...

Wesley Snipes is back, guys! And he’s more than ready to fight against a gang of zombies! Yeah, that’s exactly the thing with the upcoming horror-western titled Gallowwalkers, which comes from director Andrew Goth, and centers on a cursed gunman, played by Snipes, whose victims return as zombies warriors. Sounds promising?
Andrew Goth directed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Joanne Reay, which centers on a cursed gunman named Aman who incurs the wrath of undead warriors after he kills the gang that murdered his lover.
Or, if you prefer the official synopsis:
The movie tells the story of a mysterious gunman, Aman, the son of a nun, who breaks her covenant with God to ensure his survival. Her break with God curses her son to be hunted by all those who die by his hand. When he takes revenge on a gang that murdered his love,...

The Seasoning House, an acclaimed, crazy looking revenge/sex-trafficking/thriller, now has a trailer. The film is directed by Paul Hyett, who performed FX work on The Descent and The Woman In Black. It’s definitely not about spices or cooking.
The Seasoning House is a grim and soulless place where young girls are bought and sold for men’s pleasure. Here we meet Angel (Rosie Day), a young, orphaned girl enslaved by Viktor (Kevin Howarth). Unbeknownst to her master, she moves between the walls and crawlspaces of the house – silently observing, learning and planning for her escape.
When her closest confident is savagely killed, Angel can no longer contain her rage and sets out through both ingenuity and brutality to seek justice.
If you want more, check out Styd’s set report.

During wartime innocence isn’t lost – it’s taken! Some say – an action movie, but if you check out the rest of this report you’ll see that Paul Hyett‘s directorial debut The Seasoning House is definitely a wartime horror. Brutal, aggressive & uncompromising film which gives a new look at the harshness of reality, arriving on the doorstep of an opiated world, seen through the eyes of a deaf-mute girl.
That’s exactly how Sean Pertwee, who plays one of the leading roles in the movie, described the whole thing. Beside him, The Seasoning House also stars Rosie Day, Kevin Howarth, Anna Walton, Jemma Powell and Alec Utgoff.
