Hellmuth Karasek was born on January 4, 1934 in Brno, Czechoslovakia [now Czech Republic]. He was an actor and director, known for Theater und Gesellschaft - Rollenbilder im Wandel der Jahrhunderte (1966), Max Horkheimer: Porträt eines Aufklärers (1969) and Das literarische Quartett (1988). He was married to Dr. Armgard Seegers. He died on September 29, 2015 in Hamburg, Germany.

Member of the jury at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1999
German journalist and literary critic, best known for being a permanent cast member of Das literarische Quartett (1988).
After working for "Der Spiegel" magazine from 1974 to 1996, he was co-publisher of the Berlin daily "Der Tagesspiegel" until 2004.
Left East Germany in the early 1950s and studied at the University of Tübingen.
