The enigmatic greys of a Kashmir winter in ‘Haider’, the many tones of black in ‘Maqbool’ with such visual poetry where each note stands out, Vishal Bhardwaj’s cinema has never shouted ‘independent’ but subtly stood out from the movies of his time.
Not hyper-realistic in its treatment, it is Bhardwaj’s visual poetry that makes the thematic essence pull in reality at its most profound.
“What you call visual poetry in my films emerges from the deep-rooted love for poetry that never leaves me,” Bhardwaj told Ians. “Therefore, there is always an effort to lend a certain rhythm and deeper meaning to everything that happens in front of the camera.”
Together with Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee and Tigmanshu Dhulia, Bhardwaj has been instrumental in ushering in a new era in Indian cinema after the almost traumatic 80s when Hindi cinema hit its lowest. He believes, though, that the independent...

“I don’t find the definition of Chinese filmmakers by generation to be a useful tool,” said Marco Mueller, introducing dark satire “The Movie Emperor” as the opening film of the first edition of his Festival of Young Cinema (Asia-Europe) in Macau on Friday. “Much more interesting is the concept of exchange between new and old and between East and West.”
“The new forces of Chinese cinema are present and participating. More than 100 young filmmakers will have the opportunity to meet and interact with names including Amir Naderi, Aleksei German Jr and Yonfan,” Mueller continued. While Macau is these days best known for its high-tech casinos, the former Portuguese colony has long been a venue for international cultural exchange and retains ambitions to restore some of that diversity.

Indian filmmaker Ravi Muppa will adapt his Oscar-qualifying short “Incognito” into a feature-length film.
The executive producers of the short, Indian auteur Anurag Kashyap (“Kennedy”) and Ranjan Singh (“Udta Punjab”) under the Flip Films banner and Nicholas Weinstock and Divya D’Souza of Invention Studios, are reuniting to produce the feature.
In “Incognito,” a lonely motel receptionist makes an extra buck by selling the hidden-cam videos of his unsuspecting guests on the internet. But when one such guest turns out to be a young girl at risk of being trafficked, he faces a crisis of conscience and a mission.
“Incognito” has been selected at more than 20 international film festivals, including the Oscar-qualifying Palm Springs Shortfest, Tirana and LA Shorts, and is a 2024 Oscar contender in the live action short film category, where candidates from India include “Nocturnal Burger” and “The Broken Table.”

Why Animal Is A Box Office Blockbuster? Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Marketing Masterstroke That Fooled Everyone! ( Photo Credit – IMDb; T-Series / YouTube )
717 crore in just ten days! That’s what Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal had earned at the worldwide box, and all of this hasn’t come lightly. The amount of opinions this film has generated might be higher than what it has earned, and all thanks to Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s mischievous mind. Why mischievous? Because Animal is purely the result of the “Oh! You didn’t like Kabir Singh? Wait, I’ll show you how that was nothing” mindset.
Is it even ethical? Well, while we discuss ethics, producers of the film are just waiting to enter the 1000-crore club already working on the sequel ‘Animal Park,’ which will apparently be wilder than this one. Of course, it will be! Why not? When you can get this level of interest by going hardcore once,...

Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki is just ten days from its release, and the trailer recently released broke every record to be the most-watched Indian movie trailer on YouTube in the first 24 hours. Now, the news is that the first Dunki review is already out, and you all know how to react when that happens for such a big film ten days before its release.
SRKians, don’t worry because it’s a 5-star review as predicted, calling the film a ‘masterpiece of storytelling’ and whatnot. Knowing it’s a Rajkumar Hirani film, it’s really difficult not to trust it because his track record has been...

It’s not an unknown fact that Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra took almost seven years to release, and it finally happened in 2022. When everyone finally saw the film, it had an open-ended hinting at yet another critical character of Dev laying the base for part 2. Ranveer Singh, Hrithik Roshan & many other names were rumored to play the role. Last week, there was a report floating around of how Ranveer has finally grabbed Brahmastra 2, but it looks like it was a mere rumor.
For those who don’t remember, we got to see a glimpse of ‘Dev,’ who will be playing Shiva’s (played by Rk) father and husband of Amrita (to be played by Deepika Padukone). While it was just teased without revealing the face,...
