‘Yellowstone’ to End as Kevin Costner Seeks Less Shooting Time, Matthew McConaughey Tapped for Spinoff — Report

‘Yellowstone’ to End as Kevin Costner Seeks Less Shooting Time, Matthew McConaughey Tapped for Spinoff — Report
Very rarely does a show end prematurely when it’s one of the highest-rated series on television. But that fate may soon befall “Yellowstone,” the Paramount Network hit from Taylor Sheridan.

Deadline is reporting that the series, which is expected to premiere the second part of its fifth season later this year, will soon end in its current form. However, Sheridan and Paramount Global will continue the franchise — which has already launched prequel series “1883” and “1923” — via a new show about the central Dutton family, with Matthew McConaughey in talks to star.

“We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of ‘Yellowstone’ and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come,” a Paramount Network spokesperson told IndieWire in a statement. “Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built.

Yellowstone: Lilli Kay on the Show’s Cross-Demographic Politics

Yellowstone: Lilli Kay on the Show’s Cross-Demographic Politics
This interview contains spoilers for Yellowstone season 5.

Lilli Kay has earned it.

It wasn’t enough that she was a massive fan of Yellowstone. It wasn’t enough that her stepmother, Piper Parabo, had been cast as a recurring character for the past two seasons. It wasn’t even enough that her father, Stephen Kay, has directed over a dozen episodes of Yellowstone, as well as a handful episodes of Mayor of Kingstown, all the while serving as executive producer for both shows. Lilli, for the longest time, couldn’t even get to visit the set.

“I didn’t [visit] and that was a huge bummer, because it just never worked out. And I was so frustrated because that’s the world I love.” Kay explains. Her father seemingly ignored her pleas for quite some time – “I was begging to just come hang out, but I never got to go.”

‘Yellowstone’ Breakout Lilli Kay on Clara’s Future Fighting Alongside John Dutton and How Fans Reacted to the Series’ First Queer Kiss
Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for “Yellowstone” Season 5.

One of the biggest surprises on this season of “Yellowstone” is the introduction of Clara, played by Lilli Kay. The trusted assistant to now-Governor John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who fired everyone but her once he took control, has a firm push and pull with her boss, giving him pro tips about government even when he doesn’t want to hear them. Kay, who also appeared in series such as “Your Honor” and “Chambers,” has fit in quickly on the show, as comfortable in the halls of the state capitol as she is on horseback.

In the wake of the show’s mid-season finale, Variety spoke with Kay about the joys of working alongside a Hollywood legend, how “Yellowstone” is a unique family affair and how she ended up in the series’ first LGBTQ kissing scene.

After ‘Tulsa King,’ Sylvester Stallone Might Stop Acting in His Own Projects

After ‘Tulsa King,’ Sylvester Stallone Might Stop Acting in His Own Projects
Sylvester Stallone’s rise is a story so celebrated, it’s come to shape how we imagine the Hollywood dream. A young, no-name actor writes a script, sells it to a studio, fights to play the title role, and — for his effort, his faith, and his talent — the movie turns him into a star. More than a star, really. “Rocky” and the ensuing sequels helped establish Stallone as a multi-hyphenate artist. For nearly 50 years, Stallone has been writing, acting, producing, and directing many of his own projects.

But after his latest dual role — leading and executive producing the Paramount+ series “Tulsa King” — Stallone may be staying behind the camera on his future creative endeavors. When asked if he’s writing any passion projects to direct and star in, Stallone said, “I might, but maybe not the acting.” He mentioned “Poe,” the Edgar Allen Poe biopic he’s long sought to realize,

‘Yellowstone’ Star Piper Perabo on Shocking Midseason Finale and How Protest Arrests Shaped Character Arc
[This story contains spoilers from Yellowstone‘s season five midseason finale, “A Knife and No Coin.”]

Before Summer Higgins got sentenced to 15 years in prison for civil disobedience and assault on Yellowstone, Piper Perabo had her own experience with a protest arrest.

The actress — who plays the environmental activist turned adviser to Gov. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) on the hit Paramount Network series — was among the more than 200 people who were arrested in 2018 during the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The Covert Affairs and Coyote Ugly star disrupted the Sept. 4, 2018 hearing and was ejected from the courtroom.

“I told [creator Taylor Sheridan] the story, and I didn’t really know what he was going to do with it or where it was going to go,” Perabo tells The Hollywood Reporter. (Later, while already cast on Yellowstone, she also got arrested at a Jane Fonda climate change protest.)

Yellowstone Season 5 Returns Summer 2023

Yellowstone Season 5 Returns Summer 2023
That's all she wrote, folks.

Well, for the time being at least.

Yellowstone Season 5 is taking a breather, but don't worry, it will return.

During the midseason finale (a first for Yellowstone), it was revealed that the show will return for the summer.

We knew it was going to be a big episode since those of us who cover it didn't get a screener ahead of time.

Of course, that means that you won't get a full review for the episode until later tonight, but you've got this semi-good news to tide you over.

As we rolled into the midseason finale, we were awaiting news about how the rest of the season will play out with new dynamics.

Beth realized just how far in debt the ranch was after apparently sticking her head in the sand and trusting what John trusted -- what worked for the last 100 plus years.

Unfortunately,

It’s a dream role for Kay, whose dad Stephen Kay is a director/EP on the drama while her stepmom Piper Perabo plays Summer, Dutton’s current lover.

“My dad would brag to me about how he was spending every single day with horses and amazing actors,” says Kay, whose credits include Your Honor and Madam Secretary. “I was like, ‘hey, I’m a horse person! I want to come hang out!'”

In the trailer for Season 2 of “Mayor of Kingstown,” which Paramount released on Wednesday, Mike McCluskey (Jeremy Renner) has an unorthodox plan to quell the chaos at the town’s prison after Season 1’s riot. The second season of the drama from Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon debuts on Sunday, Jan. 15, on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Canada.

We don’t find out exactly what Mike’s plan is, but we do know it involves beatdowns and a pistol whipping. As he says in the clip, “When I say I’m going to do a thing, that thing gets done.”

Of course, that doesn’t go over well with everyone, as he’s told, “Inmates are running the asylum and you’re handing them the key.”

Sylvester Stallone Is Totally Wrong About His Most Underrated Movie

Sylvester Stallone Is Totally Wrong About His Most Underrated Movie
Sylvester Stallone feels his remake of Get Carter is one of his most underrated movies, but it really isn't. Towards the end of the '90s, the box-office dominance of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Stallone movies began to wane. A series of critical and commercial duds chipped away at their bankability, and while Arnie moved to politics during the 2000s, Stallone famously had a rough few years when the new millennium began. After an uphill battle to get Rocky Balboa produced, he considered quitting the business entirely. Thankfully, the success of the latter led to a new chapter in his career.

A series of flops in the early 2000s like Driven or Get Carter even led to Stallone's work heading straight to DVD. In a 2022 THR profile, Stallone said of the latter that "Believe it or not, I think Get Carter was really underrated," before calling its reception disappointing. Get Carter

Sylvester Stallone reveals what he feels is the most underrated movie in his filmography. Stallone's career has seen him tackle various prominent roles and franchises, like Rocky, Rambo, and The Expendables. He's also known as an action star, having made films like Tango & Cash, Demolition Man, and Cliffhanger. And while the actor has also appeared in films where he seemed out of place, like Rhinestone or Oscar, he has a unique thought about his most underrated movie.

While speaking with THR, Stallone was asked about the most underrated movie from his lengthy career, with the actor choosing 2000's Get Carter remake. He calls the movie a "big disappointment," saying that "tremendous nostalgia" was attached to the original film that hindered the remake's performance. While Get Carter didn't impress much upon its release, it left an indelible mark on Stallone. Check out Stallone's comments on Get Carter below:
