Alycia Debnam-Carey is delivering her best work in Prime Video's The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.
The 100 and Fear the Walking Dead alum plays the titular character in the adaptation of Holly Ringland's novel.
As you'll recall if you've been watching the show on Fridays as it unspools on the streaming service, Alice is living with her grandmother after becoming an orphan.
Throughout the first four episodes, the series touched upon Alice's violent upbringing, and Friday's new episode, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, sends things in an emotional direction.
Twig (Leah Purcell) is trying to find Alice in the episode while Alice is off trying to piece together her past.
Alice is hiding a significant burden in the form of setting the fire that got her into her current predicament, but she was driven by the abuse at the hands of her father.
Her fateful decision changed her life forever,...

‘The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart’ Review: Sigourney Weaver in Amazon’s Pretty but Padded Trauma Drama
Sigourney Weaver and Alycia Debnam-Carey are the most recognizable stars in Amazon’s adaptation of Holly Ringland’s The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, but both are upstaged by the series’ two real standouts: an astonishing juvenile turn by Alyla Browne and a seven-hour cortege of gorgeous, emotionally weighty Australian sunsets.
Developed for TV by Sarah Lambert and directed by Glendyn Ivin, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart is well-intentioned, beautifully photographed, consistently well-acted, and it represents the latest example of the difficulties of translating a novel with a thoroughly literary conceit to a new medium.
The story is metaphors on top of metaphors on top of metaphors as it explores the generational legacy of abuse, but its thin overall narrative and especially its supporting characters frequently get lost in the effort to visualize those metaphors. The series is full of — repetitively so, at times — potent and nearly unwatchable moments of trauma and redemption,...

An air of secrecy pervades The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Prime Video's adaptation of Holly Ringland's bestselling novel. The show's inciting incident purposely plays out off screen: One minute, nine-year-old Alice Hart (Alyla Browne) accidentally starts a fire in her family's barn; the next, her home is engulfed in flames, resulting in the deaths of her pregnant mother Agnes (Tilda Cobham-Hervey) and abusive father Clem (Charlie Vickers). The intervening moments remain a mystery to the audience and characters alike — as local librarian Sally (Asher Keddie) asks as she stares at the bloodied and bruised Alice, "What the hell happened out there?"...

Sigourney Weaver reminds us of her unfailing instincts as an actor about halfway through “The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart,” the coiled, atmosphere-rich limited series based on Holly Ringland’s bestselling novel.
Weaver plays June, battle-hardened matriarch of a wild flower farm in Australia that doubles as a refuge for battered women. She’s also a master manipulator and control freak, and when her partner, Twig (Leah Purcell), discovers a particularly nasty deception, Twig takes an ax and goes to work on a tree that means a lot to both women. With each resonant “thwack,” June cringes, buckles and winces, a look of soul-deep pain written across her face. For these few moments, she is the human embodiment of that tree.
It’s easy to take Weaver for granted; she doesn’t work much anymore outside of the “Avatar” franchise, and to a certain segment of viewers she will always...

One of the most highly anticipated films of the year released its trailer this week. “Killers of the Flower Moon” is currently slated for an Oct. 6 release before eventually streaming exclusively on Apple TV+. The film, directed by Martin Scorsese, is based on the 2017 true crime book “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” by David Grann. It tells the story of murders that took place in the 1920s in Osage Country, Oklahoma. After oil was found on the land of wealthy Osage people, they were brutally killed, presumably for access to their land and oil. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, and more.

Sigourney Weaver stars as her grandmother June Hart, with Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alice. The cast features Alyla Browne, Asher Keddie, Leah Purcell, Frankie Adams, Alexander England, and Charlie Vickers as Clem. Set against Australia's breath-taking, natural landscape, and with native wildflowers & plants also playing characters in the series. This looks quite good, I'm intrigued so far.

There just might be another crop of “Nine Perfect Strangers” on the horizon.
David E. Kelley’s Hulu drama, based on the novel by “Big Little Lies” author Liane Moriarty, looks like it’s headed for a Season 2 based on its category submissions for the 2022 Primetime Emmys.
Hulu confirmed to IndieWire that “Nine Perfect Strangers” will be submitted in the Drama categories at the Emmys rather than under the Limited Series banner. If history tells us anything, this means more “Nine Perfect” will be on the way. “Big Little Lies” went the same route with an unexpected second season following the success of the first, which HBO submitted as a Drama over Limited at the Emmys.
Creator Kelley co-wrote the first season of “Nine Perfect Strangers” alongside John-Henry Butterworth and Samantha Strauss, with Jonathan Levine directing. THR reported that Kelley is not expected to return as showrunner for Season 2 if greenlit.

The nine perfect strangers at the heart of the Hulu Original had a less than tranquil experience, but it seemingly all worked out in the end. For those who may've missed the Sept. 22 final episode, the Marconi family—which includes dad Napoleon (Michael Shannon) and mom Heather (Asher Keddie)—finally found peace after struggling with the suicide of son Zach (Hal Cumpston)....

Nine Perfect Strangers is shaping up to be a huge success for Hulu.
Per Deadline, the Nicole Kidman-led miniseries was the most-watched Hulu original ever on premiere day as well as after five days of the three-part premiere being made available.
The streaming service previously announced that The Handmaid's Tale's fourth season finale was the biggest Hulu original on premiere day ever, so for Nine Perfect Strangers to already overshadow that metric, it's a good sign for the future of the series.
As has become the norm with the streaming service, no concrete numbers have been revealed, which means these claims from the streamer should be taken with a pinch of salt.
It's possible the series could appear on the Nielsen streaming chart shortly if the numbers are as big as the streamer states.
The limited series takes place at a health-and-wellness resort that promises healing and transformation...

Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers has gotten off to a strong ratings start. As usual, no hard numbers are being released, but the high-profile limited series, starring Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy, was the most-watched Hulu original ever — drama, comedy, limited series or unscripted — on premiere day as well as after five days on the service. That includes all seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Act, and others.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 finale previously was the most watched Hulu original ever on premiere day, according to the streaming service.
Hulu’s methodology is based on counting individual users to accommodate different release patterns (Hulu released the first three episodes of Nine Perfect Strangers at once), so a viewer is counted once whether they watched one episode or all three.
Based on Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty’s latest book,Nine Perfect Strangers is from David E. Kelley, Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories,...
